I do love a Yemeni café. This one lacks some of the cushiness and charm of the other Yemeni cafés, but that's to be expected given its location - real estate is scarce. The drinks and such are still solid. One of my go-tos in this area of Soma. A good place to meet up for coffee or to have a destination to walk to during a one on one. I usually get the adeni chai and it usually comes scalding hot, so be careful. If I wanted to spend a long time working there, I would probably prefer to get a pot, but I'm not sure why someone would spend a long time of this area unless they worked at an office here. read more

I like Sana'a Cafe, the new one in Elk Grove, up by Sac, which is elegant, busy, has good energy, great service, elegant decor, and of course their great spiced coffees and milk cake desserts. They are also open early and late, almost every day. This one is the same ownership I believe, I think they may have expanded already to 4 locations: SF, Oakland, Sac, and Elk Grove? At least that is what I recalled talking to one of the owners about in Elk Grove a couple of months ago when it just opened. However, this location, although quite popular with the local FiDi crowd looking for a place to hang out with the long hours and no hassle vibe, to bring their laptops for a group PM meeting or something, or discuss the next AI startup possibilities and getting funding from their slide deck presentations, is not on the same level as up the I-80 and a little down the i-5 corridors to Elktown, in my opinion. There was only 1 person working when I arrived to meet someone here for a meeting, and he had his head down and seemed preoccupied, like I was interrupting him from something important (this is at the counter/cashier spot.) He did look up after I stood there for awhile (longer than I expected based on the lively prompt salutations from the northern location.). And didn't seem interested in helping me with much energy. I did order a Sana'a Latte, and a Pistachio Milk Cake slice, and my meet-up partner showed up and ordered something, too. The latte and milk cake were pretty consistent to the other location I had been to before. But this location doesn't have a lot of pride in ownership I encountered on my first (and second) Sana'a visit up north. It had a funkier feel, not as clean, low energy, a bit dark, just not encouraging the same energy as my past experiences. If you didn't know any different, maybe its ok, you don't know what you don't know. But it felt more chain outlet just getting by vibe, not a bright entrepreneurial space with high quality exotic Yemeni Coffee shop it has at other locations, or at least like in Elk Grove. read more

I just happened to pass by this cafe on New Montgomery because I'm rarely in this part of SoMa when I used to be an office drone here. I'm familiar with Sana'a from their Telegraph Avenue location, one of nearly a dozen cafes that have popped up in the last year or so. I have to admit I only had something to eat and was not that impressed. I believe this one is their original location. My late afternoon arrival meant it was as still as a tomb. This time I decided to have one of their signature drinks, the $6.49 Sana'a Latte, which was flavored strongly with cardamom, cinnamon, and ginger (Photo 9). I quite liked it while I bypassed the exotic-looking pastries like the baklava. Perhaps another time. I was super excited to try Sana'a Cafe, but it was just okay. The matcha latte tasted like straight up milk. There was barely any matcha in it, and I was really disappointed so I went to another cafe. The chai was nice and hot, but extremely sweet I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. This a traditional Yemeni coffee blend made with light roast coffee, coffee husks, and spices like cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon. Would come back again for their pastries! This yemeni cafe has topped Delah Coffee as I enjoyed Sana'a's savory pastries quite a bit. I had the chicken turnover and a goat cheese croissant. Both were good but the chicken turnover was my favorite (and had more filling compared to Delah Coffee) They offer a variety of hot and iced coffee, teas and drinks. I got their popular Adani Chai as recommended by the staff and enjoyed it! Next time I'd get it a little less sweet but they can adjust the sugar level for you. I tried Yemeni chai for the first time here. Since I'm a huge fan of Indian chai, I was curious to try a Middle Eastern version--and honestly, it turned out to be the best chai I've ever had. On my second and third visits, I found it less tasty compared to the first time. Later, when I talked to the staff member who had prepared it on my very first visit, he kindly adjusted the sugar and milk to suit my taste, and it was perfect again. I didn't have the best experience at Sana'a cafe sadly, despite wanting to go for a while now. It is a charming cafe and most of their items were good but... When you place an order you are asked if you want to eat here or take to go. I said for here. You are given a buzzer for when the order is ready. When it buzzed I went over and found only half my order (the adeni chai in a to-go cup, one of my milk cakes on a plate but the other missing, and my friends latte cheesecake slices). The honeycomb bread was missing and of our milk cakes were missing. I was really bummed to have the adeni chai in a to go cup when I said it was for here, because the presentation of it is nice. When I went up to request my missing items, all the staff preparing items just kinda ignored me? Then one of them looked at me and asked what I was looking for and I must've repeated myself 3 of 4 times, it felt like they thought I was lying to get free food but they already took the buzzer away. It was Eid though, so they were pretty busy. Innocent mistakes happen all the time, I just wish they handled it better. I really don't mind if something is forgotten, but I do mind when I have to awkwardly ask several times and get ignored. We did eventually get what was missing, but it soured the experience. Great new spot opened up near the big cluster of offices near SOMA, so I decided to check it outs Great vibes overall and nice to get to try some Yemeni cuisine. The caramel macchiato tasted great and was prepared quickly. Their pastries stood out more to me - wasn't too sweet and nice portions. Only complaint was that we ordered their iced matcha latte and it tasted more like milk than any other ingredient - it was also hardly green... This is a great location! First the desserts and pastries are unique! I really enjoyed the pistachio milk cake and the hazelnut, blueberry, & pistachio turkish delight. The guy at the counter was nice and gave me advice about what pastry to choose. The Junubi drink was different and I suggest getting it sweetened if you've never tasted something like it before. I'm just visiting but I plan on coming back for the actual Yemeni coffees. Only leaving this review for the desserts because I don't remember how the drinks tasted like (I didn't order the drinks for myself). While the flavors and textures of the Dubai chocolate cheesecake were really good, the cheesecake filling tasted way too much like cream cheese. I love cream cheese, but I don't think it complements the flavors so well in this application. I do want to try the same cheesecake again at some point, honestly, just to see if I get a better batch next time. Came to Sana'a Cafe after a trip to the SF MoMA. It's a nice, small Yemeni cafe with seating and good wifi. I decided to order a Matcha Latte, which was alright. Not the best I've had but also not the worst. They have a wide selection of desserts and pastries that all looked delicious. I also decided to order a Biscoff Cheesecake slice, priced at $8.50. The cheesecake was delicious and a lot creamier/thicker than other cheesecakes I've had. It almost reminded me of a toffee flavor/consistency. I love this place because it's one of the best cafes that are open late in the area. the ambiance is well unified with the yemeni style and the coffee is also strong! We were walking by on a Sunday before heading to the MOMA and decided to try this place. We ordered some coffee and dessert. The place had plenty of options. We decided to try the pistachio dessert, which was like a tres leches. And the Dubai chocolate cheesecake. We paired these with an iced cold brew and iced latte. Everything was really good and the ambiance was nice, you feel like you're in the Middle East with the decor and pics on the wall. The pistachio dessert was our favorite. Met a friend here who recommended the location. Hard to find parking, but I got lucky a block away as it was 6 pm and traffic was in flux. My friend ordered while I went to the bathroom. There is only one bathroom and ofc someone was using it. When I met up at the table, there were one each of a cafe latte, green tea latte, pistachio cake slice and a baklava. The colors together were beautiful. Now for the taste. I chose the matcha latte. It was a bit gritty (having done tea ceremony, that's not unusual), unsweetened (normal) and better piping hot, but we chatted so much our drinks cooled. It was an okay drink. Pistachio cake was lightly sweet, a distinctive green and pleasant flavor. Hard to taste pistachio though. Baklava was ofc sweet, nicely crunchy and probably a better pairing with the cafe latte than the matcha. The cafe latte was decaf and my friend said it was good. The place is a bit noisy when full. We ordered a full pot of Adeni chai and it was rich, perfectly spiced, and comforting -- exactly what you want when you're settling in to relax or catch up with friends. The decor is absolutely beautiful, with thoughtful wall art and photos that give the space so much character and warmth. There's plenty of seating, which makes it great whether you're stopping by solo, meeting friends, or staying a while. Service was friendly and attentive without feeling rushed. We've had great experiences at other places specializing in Yemeni coffee in SF, and decided to come to this cafe and check it out. I was feeling something plain and ordered an iced oat milk latte. Meanwhile, my friend ordered an iced chai latte. The latte I ordered tasted very dark and was not as milky as I usually like my lattes to be. My friend's chai latte was okay, but a little too sweet and cinnamon-y for me. We both came to do some work, and the environment is great for that. There is a clean restroom and public wifi around (not sure if it belongs to this cafe or not). The inside is also pretty quiet, with only a few conversations going on. There are also many outlets, and we tried a couple, but they did not work for us. The hours here are great! They're open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, which makes this place a gem for those who need to get work done past typical working hours. read more

Stop on by, great for coffee dates, work, reading, lounging, or dodging your ex on the street. They offer yummy pastries too. I ordered a pistacho cheesecake and it was rich, unlike my ex. I ordered a hot coffee and my friend ordered iced coffee, both were great. The service was quick, I think we got our orders somewhere between 5-10 min from ordering.
