Then again, vibe is probably 99% of the reason people would come here for afternoon tea, haha. The cups, sugar cubes, utensils are all HK based which is a cute touch. Afternoon tea takes place is a private room, which is also a nice escape from the busy mall. In terms of food, it is a miss for me. Everything was way too sweet and the taste was not very good. The quantity of food is actually pretty big (I'd skip lunch if you're interested) and we ended up taking a lot of it home. There was one strawberry tart that was pretty delicious, but that is about it. In terms of service, I'd describe it was poor. The cashier was not super friendly directing us to the check in spot and orders would take awhile. To the point where we had to ask multiple times for the same thing despite only a small number of customers being there at the time. I also tried asking some questions on their online portal but received no response. NOSTALGIA REIGNS! 4.0 Growing up, Hello Kitty was all the rage. Although its popularity took a brief hiatus in the U.S., it made a strong comeback in the 1990s and continues to enjoy another resurgence today. One weekend, my hubby surprised me with reservations for afternoon tea. One minute we were shopping at some of my favorite stores at Valley Fair Mall, and the next we were standing in the Hello Kitty reservation line. I have to admit, I was excited. The host warmly greeted us and escorted us through a door in the back to the private Bow Room. The name couldn't have been more fitting, as a large Hello Kitty figurine wearing her signature pink bow stood proudly across the room. As you might expect, just about everything was pink: the door, walls, chairs, menus, napkins, and even the Christmas tree, since our visit was during the holiday season. In the spirit of Hello Kitty, I just happened to be wearing a splash of pink myself. The tea menu featured a variety of black, green, and caffeine-free teas in an assortment of flavors. I chose the Hibiscus Cooler, a refreshing green tea that I enjoyed. We were then served fresh strawberries with cocoa cream, a light and pleasantly balanced start that wasn't overly sweet. The afternoon tea was presented on a tiered server with both savory and sweet selections. The savory selections included a cucumber sandwich, egg salad sandwich, beet hummus pita, and a chicken salad croissant. The sweet offerings featured a seasonal scone, Hello Kitty mini cake, raspberry macaron, strawberry shortcake, and an apple pie tart. Every item was well prepared, and we enjoyed the entire selection. Did we enjoy our afternoon tea? Absolutely. Would we return? Probably not for afternoon tea, but perhaps for their à la carte dessert selections. It was a fun experience to share and one we're glad we tried. However, at $70 per adult, it's priced similarly to the world-famous afternoon tea at The Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong, an experience we found to be truly extraordinary. There, we appreciated the timeless elegance and traditional presentation. By comparison, Hello Kitty Café offers a more modern, whimsical, and energetic atmosphere with loud background music. I stopped by HK cafe to try any of their drinks and I ordered the pompompurin and it tasted like brown sugar boba milk but a texture of an ice cream. It was good but too sweet. The service wasnt the best although it wasn't busy. There is a seating area outside of the cafe it was nice but small and was tricky to get in and out with a stroller. A friend took me to the tea room for my birthday. It's a full tea experience, where there is a set menu but you pick what tea you get. Everything is super kawaii Hello Kitty, down to the plates and cups. They do ask if you have allergies, but I'm not sure how much of an alternate menu they have. I got the tea that had hibiscus in it. It was very red! I enjoyed it. I also noticed that they have iced tea and lemonade options, which I think would be fun for non-tea drinkers. All the food was delicious. The egg salad cup was a standout. I thought the serving size overall was large; we took some of the desserts home. This place is really decorated for fans of Hello Kitty. It was surprisingly a little loud, and only about half of the tables were full when we went. The servers were very nice and friendly. Ugh, I've been wanting to book the afternoon tea in the bow room for the longest!!! I'm so glad they opened a Hello Kitty Cafe in the Bay! We made a reservation for a party of two on a Sunday at 3:15pm to celebrate my birthday! It's $70 per person and we paid a deposit when booking. There is a pre-set tea menu with savory and sweet snacks and your selection of one beverage; tea, lemonade, iced tea. Mimosa and champagne is also available for an extra charge. They do ask if you have any food allergies or restrictions. Ugh, everything was soooo cute!!! The servers were also very sweet and friendly. The beverage selection was a bit overwhelming for me and I didn't know what to choose! One of the servers recommended us the mango iced tea, which was actually really good! However, I wish I would've gotten a hot tea, so I could use the cute tea pot, cups, and the hello kitty shaped sugar cube lol. I didn't think the snacks would be enough to fill us up, but we ended up having to pack leftovers! We really enjoyed the savory items; my favorite was the cucumber sandwiches and the egg salad cone! Hello Kitty fans absolutely NEED to visit this place at least once!! This totally felt like a little girls' dream come to life. I was visiting the mall in San Jose for the first time with a friend, a few months ago, and the second I spotted the Hello Kitty Café, I got so excited and immediately wanted to go in. I've known of the Hello Kitty food truck that goes around and visits various towns here and there but those lines are atrocious. This café makes it more convenient and easier to stop by. Everything was beyond adorable, from the decor to the pastries themselves. It is a bit on the pricier side, but that's understandable considering it's a themed bakery/café, a novelty experience, and located inside the mall. Personally, I thought the experience and presentation made it worth it, and I'd gladly come back if I lived nearby. I also noticed they offer Bow Room reservations for what looked like a cute tea party experience, and now I'm dying to try that someday! The pastry I ordered was delicious, though I'll admit the flavor itself wasn't anything super unique compared to other bakeries or cafés. I think if someone isn't really into Hello Kitty or Sanrio, they may just see it as a typical café. But for fans, the whole experience and atmosphere make it feel extra special. I'm an avid fan of Hello Kitty through and through, so when I heard they were opening a cafe, I just had to go visit it, even if it's far! This cafe is located at the Valley Fair mall. When we got there, there was a long line like I expected it to be, but it went by quickly. They have a variety of baked goods and iced/hot drinks, and blended drinks. The plate settings, the napkins, the teapot, cups and the tiered hors d'oeuvre display - EVERYTHING WAS IN THEME - emblazoned with the Hello Kitty logo or shaped like the character. It brought out this excitement in me that I wasn't expecting and I'm still reeling from it hours later. This might be stretching it but I had more fun at this tea time than I did in London when my husband and I went for High Tea at the Marriott overlooking Big Ben! And it was far less pretentious! Eventhough I think this may have been just a bit more expensive - but "wow" what a great time! To top it off I had the company of my two daughters - it was a total 'girls only' kind of affair and I'll never forget it. The chicken salad sandwich was one of my favorites amongst the offerings. The macaron with the raspberries was another delicious treat. I honestly wish they sold the display stand and all of the plates - I would have been all over that! Every single Hello Kitty lover needs to visit this cafe! I know I had a blast and loved all the different items on the menu that they had to offer. Whenever the Hello Kitty trucks come to a more local area, I have been unable to go. I love all of the decoration that is everywhere in the cafe. I also enjoyed that they offered many different treats and drink options. It was really hard for me not to buy everything! This is also located inside of the mall, so it is nice to be able to walk around. I stopped here today since it wasn't busy. It's my first time trying out the Hello Kitty Cafe. It's decorated so cute. I have loved Hello Kitty since I was a little girl. They are celebrating their 10 year anniversary of the first Hello Kitty cafe. They had a special offer happening. If you spend $25 or more, you get a free Hello Kitty Lunar New Year bag. If you spend another $10 you also get a Hello Kitty bookmark. I was being helped by an employee, named John. He was very kind and took good care of me. I decided to get the mango iced tea. I asked if they could make it less sweet, and they had no problem accommodating me. I also ordered a strawberry cake and apple pie to go, as well as a 10 year anniversary Hello Kitty keychain. I did receive the free year of the horse lunar new year Hello Kitty tote bag and bookmark. We will be trying out the desserts tonight. We did not finish this. The apple pie - served cold/lukewarm - dough was stuck on the bottom of the mini-pie tin and might've been better if the pie had been served warm. I've been wanting to check out the HK cafe in SoCal for years and I was hella stoked when they opened one closer to the Bay. My boo was the one who suggested and made reservations to experience their bow room! In order to go inside you need to book an afternoon tea or the evening delights sesh. Afternoon tea is a bit on the pricey side ($70 per person), so we went with the evening sesh ($25). We had reserved at 7:45pm and got there a few minutes early to wait. We were greeted, led through the fancy door and we were able to choose where to sit inside. There were maybe about 6-7 tables occupied inside. The room is small but quaint. Very pink, marble and gold. The photo op spot was HK in her chef 'fit and the outline of her head in the background. Love it, love it! The evening delights includes one drink and dessert per person. There are 6 desserts and 5-6 drinks to choose from. I went with the matcha tiramisu and the French hot chocolate and my guy ordered the apple pie a la mode and the hot chocolate as well. The person serving us was really helpful and attentive. All of the employees were actually very friendly and kind. Our goods came out quickly and on a fancy gold HK bow cart. So regal! The hot chocolate was verrry rich AF. Good quality chocolate was used indeed. The matcha tiramisu was delish but there was too much marscapone and not enough cake. It could've been more balanced because the filling to cake ratio was off. The apple pie a mode came with a big serving of vanilla soft serve with a cute cookie bow on top. The apple pie paired with the soft serve was pretty yum, much good. We weren't able to finish our hot chocolate and soft serve, so we asked for to-go cups and the staff kindly packaged them up for us and put it in one of their themed bags. The staff were kind enough to take lots of photos of us with the Chef HK statue. They were celebrating keroppi (my favorite character!) during the time we went, so they had specific items for him on the to-go menu. I wanted the keroppi matcha/vanilla soft serve, but we were already too full and still had leftover ice cream. I opted for the keroppi limeade that came with a sticker of him. The drink was tart and refreshing, especially after eating all those creamy sweets. But damn it was $10! Overall, it was a bit of a splurge but it's a nice one and done experience. The Bow Room is a must if you're a HK fan! The staff were kind and the sweets were pretty good. You can order treats and drinks at the counter but there might be a long line depending on when you go. The staff at Hello Kitty Cafe were very understanding and quickly helped adjust our reservation. Overall, Hello Kitty Cafe is really all about the experience. It's on the pricier side, and the food and drinks are just okay. However, that's to be expected from a themed character cafe. I came in with low expectations and enjoyed it for what it was. Where they truly shine is in their service! Our server (I believe his name was Daniel or David) was incredibly kind and helped make this a special birthday celebration. He even surprised me with a soft serve topped with a candle on the house. The aesthetics were also amazing. Hello Kitty details were everywhere, from the decor to the tableware. Waited for the hype to die down before finally trying Hello Kitty Cafe! I went on a Friday night and there wasn't a line so I took it as my sign to check it out. It's small, but very cute. The decor is so adorable and everything has Hello Kitty in it down to the little detailed motifs on the cakes. I visited during the holidays and saw they had seasonal drinks available like pumpkin spice and peppermint mocha. I didn't get around to trying one of the desserts this time because I was stuffed from dinner, but I was thirsty and ended up trying the mango iced tea at the recommendation of the cashier. Honestly it was just okay which was what I suspected from a café that was known for novelty more than quality/taste. I don't have anything bad to say, just that I probably wouldn't get it again. I haven't tried the sit-down portion yet, so this review is based solely on the barista counter. I ordered the donut holes coated in cookies-and-cream powder and a hot chocolate--and as much as I love Hello Kitty, I have to be honest: I was pretty disappointed. As a certified Hello Kitty girl, you could slap a Hello Kitty sticker on just about anything and I'd probably fall for it. That said, I'm not here to sugarcoat or overhype based on bias. The hot chocolate arrived without a lid showcasing a cute Hello Kitty cocoa-powder design, which already felt like a missed opportunity. Unfortunately, the drink itself didn't redeem it--it tasted like a basic Swiss Miss instant packet. I expected something richer, creamier, and more indulgent. I mean, Hello Kitty is a cat... cats like milk. Do better. The donut holes were even more underwhelming. They weren't served fresh, and because of that, the powder barely stuck to them. I was so excited when the Hello Kitty Cafe finally came to the Bay Area! I did evening delights and it was still expensive for what it was.. but the experience of being there was cool! They canceled my reservation one hour before. Their explanation: "someone who looked Vietnamese" came in and canceled "his" reservation but they canceled mine. They didn't ask him for the name, phone number, reservation number? So they canceled my reservation. I spent 45 min in traffic and showed up to be told there was no record of my reservation. No offer of compensation for my time, gas money. My 5 year old niece was looking forward to this all day. Was told they can still seat me but there was no food ready so it would take some time? If someone canceled my reservation by mistake, wouldn't they still have HIS reservation on file and prepared the food? If they ran out of food or just messed up (likely), just own it and say you'll do better next time. Did they cancel me because they just wanna go home before shift change? That truth would at least be respectable. Instead I get a bunch of handwaving and a "we'll still seat you so what's the big deal?"? So you can keep me waiting longer? I also felt dismissed already, so I'm not gonna risk being served by them. Bright side: at least I find out what the service/business like before dropping hundreds of dollars. Well, I love hello kitty so this place is going to get 5 stars from me no matter what! It's located in Valley Fair mall and pretty much just a walk up counter unless you have reservations for the restaurant part (I didn't). You can get drinks, desserts and merchandise to go. It seems that there's usually a line but it moves pretty fast. I'd recommend browsing the special 25th Anniversary merchandise before it ends this year! FOOD: 4 SERVICE: 5 AMBIANCE: 4 VALUE: 4 We've heard about the Hello Kitty cafe in the Valley Fair mall for some time now. Recently we discovered that they serve a Tea Set in the afternoon. After securing a Tock reservation several weeks in advance, we finally got to try the afternoon tea. There is a separate line to check in for the Bow Room, but when we were there, the line wasn't monitored and we ended up having to go to the counter. Inside the Bow Room, it's clean and bright with loud music playing. We were greeted promptly and ask which of the two empty tables we would prefer. Once seated, the menu (already on table) we were asked to pick our tea/drink selections. Alcohol (champagne or mimosa) was on the menu, but it was not available. After electing our teas (which were very good), we were presented with the Strawberry & Cocoa Cream. The berries were fresh and the cream was flavorful without being too sweet. Next came the actual tea set on a three tier tray. Here are what each tray contained: Bottom tray: Cucumber Sandwich - thin strips of cucumber served on a slice of milk bread with dill cream cheese. A refreshing bite to get the palate primed for the rest. Beet Hummus Pita - a dollop of beet hummus topped with a slice of radish on a pita cookie. Slightly tangy and a cleanser for the savory bits. Chicken Salad Croissant - creamy chicken salad served in a croissant sandwich. Egg Salad - egg salad served in a micro cone. Not really enough of anything to establish a taste. Apple Pie Tart - a small "bun" of apple pie. Scone - crunchy scone served with butter and strawberry jam. Hello Kitty Mini Cake - almond cake encapsulated in frosting. Full of flavor, but frosting was on sweet side. We couldn't finish the rest of our tea set and took the macaroons and shortcakes home. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, but not something we would do again. The price is comparable to other "teas" at high end hotels, but the atmosphere was not relaxing nor soothing. This was an awesome experience, especially for my partner who is a big fan of Hello Kitty. Is this expensive? Yes. Absolutely. Are you paying for an experience that you can't get anywhere else in the area? Yes. So keep that in mind because others seem to be surprised in their reviews even though you can look up the menu and price online before going. You get exactly what's on the online menu. So there are no surprises. It runs about $70 per person and gratuity is automatically added at checkout. It is necessary to make reservations online to be seated for tea. We saw multiple people turned away for not making reservations. Obviously, you don't have to make reservations to buy from the walk up cafe. The tea was great and the food was a great try. My favorite was the chicken salad on the croissant. I was weary about the raisins they put in the chicken salad, but it actually wasn't bad. Everything is hello kitty themed including the little sugar you put in your tea. The ambiance is great for a hello kitty lover and there are a couple photo ops in the tea room that are adorable. read more

8/10 Got the seasonal soft serve (vanilla & strawberry). The strawberry was definitely the dominant flavor, very light, not overly sweet, almost sorbet-like. I personally prefer something a bit sweeter, but it was still good and refreshing. It also came with a cute Hello Kitty cookie, which was just a simple shortbread, nothing special, but a nice touch. Service was fairly fast and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The ambiance was clean, bright, and very pink, which added to the experience. read more
