They could always use your help and I don't even think that they require a minimum number of hours per week. My wife and I want to adopt a rescue kitten or young cat to be a buddy for our 8-month-old rescue kitten. We were thinking about Kitten Rescue (KR), so we decided to offer some cat furniture to KR (a tree and a scratching post) and I figured I'd take a peek at their rescues when I dropped off the donation. I emailed them our offer. Many days passed without a reply, so I followed up with another email. Again, no reply. It's been weeks. Had been looking for an older kitty in need of a home for quite a while. After visiting many shelters, calling many people and having zero luck, I got an email from a woman named Esther. She sent me some pictures and info on a 5 and half year old cat who had been declawed, and abandoned many times. We e-mailed back and forth (she replied super quick!) filled out the questionnaire, and set up a time to meet her at the adoption she had going on at a local pet supply store. I walked into the pet store and immediately saw the kitty we spoke about. I quickly took her out of her crate and knew immediately I wanted to take her home. Well Esther approved of us, and agreed to do a home check the very next day. She came right on time the next morning, checked our home, and checked the room we set up for our new fur baby. We wanted a cat so bad. So bad that each night we would watch youtube videos of cats. My favorite being "dubsteb cat." This just made the longing for one worse! So we did research and we had found a cat through another organization. We did the paperwork, drove to LONG BEACH (from Burbank) to pick up our kitten only to find out that particular one had been given away the night before. And the lady was nuts. Not cat lady nuts, like... needed a friend and maybe some sort of pill nuts. NIGHTMARE. So I took to craigslist and I found a pair of cats we were interested in. They ended up not working out, but through continued communication with their fosters I ended up meeting Eden with Kitten Rescue. She happened to have the exact cats we were looking for (Russian Blue and a black DSH) and they were brothers! The process could not have been easier. We met the kittens and right away we were set. They weren't big enough to take away from mom just yet, so we waited. Eden kept us updated on our soon to be kitties. She gave them all their shots, had them neutered and chipped and ready to be picked up when they were big enough. She even put us onto some great vets. The kittens we got were so loved and used to people that their transition into our home was very easy. And they continue to be so friendly to all our guests. We often run into Kitten Rescue at our local pet stores and I can't encourage people enough to adopt from them. An added bonus is that when we were going out of town for awhile, I inquired if they knew any good pet sitters and immediately Eden put her hand up. Kitten Rescue is committed to these cats for life. Whether it be to look after them while their regular humans are away or (Heaven forbid) we could no longer take care of our boys, we know they would be in good hands with KR should we ever have to give them up (but that's not going to happen!) I volunteered with Kitten Rescue for two years before they moved from their Westside Petsmart location. In that time, I was continually impressed with the hard work of the organization and loved getting in my cat time every Tuesday night. When I finally moved into a place that allowed pets a few months ago, I turned to Kitten Rescue. I met with a foster at her house to meet a litter of four 8 week old kittens. I went into the process wanting a boy and a girl. I fell in love with two of them. They were fixed that week. I moved into my place on a Friday and the foster came by for a home check/adoption that Saturday. My kittens were a faint positive for FeLv. I was informed of this prior to adopting. Kitten Rescue was GREAT at explaining the disease and the likely outcome of a faint positive from kittens whose mother was testing negative. They also paid for my next test after adopting and I'm happy to say that my kittens and their siblings all then tested negative. I felt greatly supported by Kitten Rescue during this process. My foster did an amazing job raising my kittens. They are some of the most social cats I've ever met. Every one from my handyman to my friends comments on how friendly they are. I will preface this by saying that I think animal rescue is extremely important. All of my cats have been rescues and I am shocked at the terrible experience I have had with this organization. I looked at their website and chose two kittens of interest. I emailed the foster and received an email back to complete an application. I completed the application and emailed the foster that it was submitted and I've never heard anything back. Then I found another cat of interest. I emailed the foster and had an unnecessarily extensive multiple day email exchange with a different foster who was to pick up the cat for me to meet. Every day, I requested that this foster contact me by phone to discuss things like Covid safety, background and medical condition of the cat, additional protocol for adoption, etc. She kept ignoring my request for a conversation and when I confronted her in the 10th email about having a conversation before I went to her home, she told me she couldn't talk because she lost her phone. Really? Then she said she would FaceTime me later that day. That was five days ago. Then I called the phone number for the organization and over three days, left two messages. They have never returned my call. If these people are dedicated to finding good homes for cats, and also creating a good donation base, then they really should not be alienating people, especially me. I own my home, I have had three rescue cats over the past 30 years, I built my cats a beautiful upstairs outdoor cattio that's screened with pet screen for safety. I can provide all veterinary care and I am looking for a rescue organization to leave my legacy. And, everyone I know wants to be reincarnated as my next cat. I love them and give them a wonderful life. My rescue cat recently passed away at the age of 15 1/2. We loved her for 15 years. Ignoring me, alienating me and 2 fosters dismissing me is a really bad idea. And, most important, terrible for the cats who need a good home. read more

We just lost our cat to heart disease after caring for her for 14 years. We visited the shelter and found a great kitten that we connected with. The owner told us that we should fill out an application and that would hold the kitten for us, and she would need a week to see if it was okay to be adopted alone. After approving our application we were very excited that we were close to adopting the cat. Then, before the end of the week, we were told that they decided to give the cat to someone else because they were willing to take 2 cats. We were referred to kitten rescue by a pet store off of Glendale blvd. Nonetheless upon arrival this place had a foul smell of cat feces, we knocked on the door not knowing we needed an appointment. We were told by I believe her name was Rebecca to fill out an application only to be denied because we were not going to let the cat be outdoors. No questions were asked we were just turned away, we could've provided a clean home and better care than it is receiving at this place . I adopted a senior cat from Kitten Rescue 2 years ago. Parker is still with me today, and it was the best decision I've made in my entire life. I am so thankful for him, and to Kitten Rescue and it's staff for making my adoption experience so great. Esther was my primary point of contact. She told me all about the different cats based on a criteria that made sense for me. We scheduled visits, and it was so apparent that everyone who works at this rescue cares about the cats, and knows them all on a personal individual basis. I think this is organization is run by people who truly care about cats and rescuing them. That said, I am seeing a few other reviews similar to my experience. I rescued a kitten who I was told was in good health (outside of a surgery he fully recovered from). On day 5 I took him to the vet (who has been practicing for 30+ years). The kitten had a fever of 103 and the vet diagnosed him with a gum disease. The vet knows my situation and that I'm a first time cat owner, who lives alone, strongly advised me against keeping the cat unless I was willing to spend a lot of money during the course of his life (he's only 5 months). I made the difficult decision to return him. Ben was extremely helpful in figuring out the details for the return. When I went to drop him off though the ladies there were rude (not all, some were helpful and sweet). They told me that the vet gave me a wrong diagnosis and that he was probably just losing teeth (mind you the vet showed me how bright red his gums were). I also paid to get him antibiotics which the vet recommended and they said would do nothing for him, and lastly that these things come up with kittens and it's my responsibility to deal with them. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt that they were stressed, but in the future I will always take a cat immediately to the vet after adoption. Had I known about these health concerns in advanced I wouldn't have moved forward with the adoption and people interested in adopting with kitten rescue should continue to do so, but double check with them about their health. There are absolutely people looking to adopt cats with health issues, unfortunately I'm not yet in that position. read more

Kitten Rescue is made up of a bunch of animal hoarders. I volunteered as a kitten foster mom thinking that one family of 5 kittens (and the mom cat) would be more than enough. I should have had enough sense to cut all ties when one of the people in charge called me for the first time & mentioned she had FIFTY foster cats and TEN dogs in her home. I don't care if you're a billionaire with a palace, there is no way that that is sanitary! To make a long story short, they wanted me to house three more families of 4-5 kittens each within my first week volunteering. That's like 20 kittens plus the mothers! These people are totally insane. And I should mention that I already had two cats of my own AND one of the mom cats had FLEAS when she was dropped off at my one bedroom APARTMENT. read more

At first we thought, OK, they are probably understaffed and busy... but isn't screening potential adoptions their top priority? Finally got in touch with the actual foster person of the cat (not the center) and they let me know how glowingly awesome the cat was and that he was still available for adoption. We were so excited. After exchanging several emails over the course of the next few weeks (most of which started off "so sorry i haven't gotten back to you sooner...") we were still very hopeful about moving the process along and then out of nowhere they sent us a weirdly long and apologetic (immediately struck me as someone not telling the truth) email that they had just given the cat away to their friend instead. Over a year ago, I adopted my cat from Kitten Rescue, and I had an excellent experience. I searched their online gallery before I made an appointment to see the cats I liked, which were at a shelter in Atwater Village. The cats that I liked on the website turned out to be more aggressive than I preferred, but I ended up finding a super sweet older tabby. Before being accepted as an adopter, a volunteer came to my apartment and made sure my home was suitable for a pet. The process was easy, and the volunteer also gave me some cat tips. Then on another date, I picked up my cat, and the worker gave me a very helpful informational packet, which included the dates of when my cat was immunized and coupons for vets. Overall, the adoption process was smooth, and the people involved with Kitten Rescue really care about animals. The worst organization I have ever been to. I was looking for a kitten for a long time, me and my mom showed up at Centinela Feed & Pet supplies to adopt a kitten. As soon as we got there we fell in love with a kitten. The foster parents were so rude to us from the beginning, we felt really uncomfortable they were just not friendly at all. We asked if I could get her today and her response was "what do you think this is you can't just show up and adopt a cat"(which I normally adopt from humane society's so I thought you could and had no idea. She was very unprofessional. I was the first person they said that applied and fill out a application (which means and she said I should have priority to get the kitten) she said she just needed to make a home inspection. and this is the screenshot from the email she sent me the day after without even coming to do the home inspection. These people judge without even checking on anything. They said we are not stable for a kitten which we have amazing jobs and have a sweet little Maltese puppy we wanted to get a playmate for and to have a companion for the kitten. On the email she also states the other person she gave it to adopted the brother also. I told her I would have loved to adopt both kittens the brother and the sister and she didn't even respond. In the quest to find our next furry baby, we have overturned every rock in town by contacting "cat rescue" organizations, including Kitten Rescue and Kumo's Proud Tail and Whiskers. We visited shelters, attended adoption fairs and have filled out RIDICULOUSLY long invasive questionnaires along with agreeing to home visits. Kitten Rescue NEVER responded to emails or my 8 PAGE application. After an adoption fair, we choose a sweet baby calico with Kumo's only to wait TWO WEEKS for the crazy "foster" (cat hoarder) to tell us that she rejected our application because she believes that the kitten won't do well with my adult cats. Anyone that knows me knows that my entire life is set up around these crazy cats. (Who else do you know makes their own organic raw pet food?) Don't waste your time with these organizations. I'm what you might consider a Cat Lady: the kind of person who learned how to give insulin shots and subcutaneous IV fluids to my kitty when he developed diabetes. Yet apparently I'm not "good enough" to adopt a cat from Kitten Rescue. It seems they didn't believe me when I said I wouldn't declaw my new kitten. So my husband & I adopted the newest love of our life from the nice ladies at People and Cats Together in Redondo Beach, and two years later, we and and our four kitties are very happy together. I looked long and hard at different foster organizations and shelters before I set out to find my cat. I spent a day driving across West LA gong to various kitten adoptions. My second stop was Centinela Pet and Feed, where I first encountered Kitten Rescue. I then went to the local animal shelter to discover that they didn't have any cats at the moment. After going to several more places, including some very looney people from sketchy organizations, I returned to Centinela Pet and Feed. The next day I had two wonderful cats, both spayed and neutered, vaccinated, healthy and happy. It is clear that these foster kitties came from a loving foster family as they are both incredibly friendly - more like dogs than cats. They are well trained, clean, intelligent and loving. I volunteer with Kitten Rescue and here's why I love KR. Of course there is the opportunity to foster kittens (and the occasional cat) - so much fun! But there's also the organization itself. The other volunteers are enthusiastic, supportive, and amazingly hardworking. There is always someone available to answer questions about a sick kitten in the middle of the night. All vet expenses are paid, although many things are handled in-house (deworming, vaccinations, defleaing, etc). And special needs cats and kittens are never turned away because of their extra needs. When you foster a kitten from infancy to adoption, you do your best to get the best adopter possible. However, sometimes things don't work out. If for some reason a cat has to be returned, even years (and years!) later, and we (the foster) can't take them back, KR has a sanctuary where they can stay while trying to find a new home. This is a huge comfort; a kitten you raise will never be euthanized at a shelter! The last reason to be a volunteer here is Ben. Ben is our president and one of the funniest and smartest people I've known. Every email he sends out brings levity to grim or at the least discouraging situations. So if your considering volunteering, this is a great group! And, if you're an adopter, please be patient with our long questionnaire and home-check. You're adopting babies that we have been up all night with. Babies that we have loved and cared for. We just want the best for them! read more

I have been inquiring about a cat for a month with no reply to find out that he was already adopted. I submitted the adoption application and did the virtual home inspection, and went in to see the kitten. I was told that he was 2 weeks away from being adoptable because he needed to be a little older to get neutered. Dawn who we communicated with and met on site was not in charge of the kittens we wanted and said she would get our application to the right person. To make sure I submitted a second application to make sure it got to the right person. That was quickly followed by an email from Dawn to stop contacting kitten Rescue and that they would reach back out to us. A month after our visit we finally heard back on Instagram that we should follow up with a certain email address and then we found out the kitty was adopted:( It's clear dawn did. It want us adopting a cat from them and we are so disappointed with everything that we don't know if we want to go through this process again to be let down. I wish kitten Rescue Los Angeles would get back to inquiries because in the end complete honesty would get more cats adopt. Kitten Rescue is a top notch adoption organization full of people who really care about the animals they rescue and their adoptive families. I was looking to adopt a couple of kittens and since my friend used to work for Petco, I began by visiting a few of their stores. I don't remember the name of the organizations that were there anymore but there was only one person there who knew very little about each cat personally and watching them work it seemed all business. Each time I left feeling very uncomfortable. Then one day I walked into a local Centinela Feed that was having adoptions and was surprised to see what looked like a whole meeting going on! It turned out these were all the individual foster parents, taking their personal time on a Saturday to talk to potential adoptive families one-on-one and give them information on each cat. I ended up adopting two beautiful sister kittens that day. They came neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and with tons of great individualized advice. Kitten Rescue even started us off with a goody bag of quality food and treats. Their foster dad, Ben, is actually the president and he has gone out of his way to help me many times since. He's provided me with free meds when my girls were ill, and has given tons of invaluable advice on their continued care. When I move into a bigger home and have the space and means for another kitty, they are the only place I would look to adopt from. My husband and I said we wanted to adopt a cat around the holidays. I got ahead of myself and found Kitten Rescue online. I fell IN LOVE with a kitten and couldn't wait to have him. We submitted an application and our foster parent explained their policy of not adopting out single kittens since we have no other pets at home. It made complete sense to me and so we had no problem taking a pair. I see negative reviews about the application process being too much but honestly, it just showed me that this organization really does care about the homes the animals are going to. A meet n greet with the cats and a simple home check--not so crazy. We applied on a Tuesday and had the kittens in our home a week and a half later. Maybe it would've been easier to go to some shelter but we fell in love with these cats and were willing to do anything Kitten Rescue needed from us. Our foster parent is so good about educating us on best practices and giving us advice on what to do for our kittens. For example, I've never trimmed a cats claws my own and she was willing to show me. And one of our kittens is prone to eye infections but when she brought them to us she even provided a bottle of eye drops to give him. They're well informed and it's obvious everything they do is for the best interest of the cat. read more

I offer an awesome home and have good experience to know what I'm seeking in a pet (I have adopted twice before, and have had a few others). While I normally understand a rigorous application process (it means they care, right?)... Kitten Rescue's is just too much (you'll have an easier time with other rescues). I felt a couple questions on their application to be really inappropriate, and have never had to write out such things before. In my eyes it reflects poorly on the organization, and I will not be returning to them to adopt in the future. I can't say enough good things about this group of individuals. They took us in (I don't even think they were technically open at the time) and helped us through a small emergency. The attention and care they put into our little guy tells me that they take their work seriously and that they have a true love for cats! The property is absolutely adorable with multiple buildings full of happy cats and kittens, including a few GIGANTIC cats roaming around. The team invited us in with open arms, took our needs seriously and made us feel like we were already family. I am so happy to say that our little guy is 100% healthy, safe and happy now due to the love that this group shared with us.
