As I'm the only person in my family who loves Haitian food, I decided to try George's Family Cuisine. They have a cafeteria set-up, but it's mostly empty. There's a menu, but you're better off just asking what they have, because the menu doesn't correspond (nor do the prices listed!). On my visit, they had black rice (rice and beans, black in color from being cooked with mushrooms) and goat, so that's what I ordered. I think there was a veggie stew and some sort of chicken dish as well. There are a few small tables in the restaurant, but the employees were sitting at those, so without asking my preference, they served my food in stryofoam (thank goodness I do live close enough to take the food to go!). The portion was huge, enough for two meals. Inexplicably, maybe because they didn't have salad or a veggie dish as a side, I was given a whole (peeled but uncooked) banana. The pikliz were not spicy or acidic enough, so I guess I'm glad I was at home and could add hot sauce to compensate for the lack of seasoning in the rice and goat.
