I don't understand the bad reviews, I think this place is solid. It has good food, the server gets you to your table right away and explains how to get your food. I like that they leave you alone but comes from time to time to check on you, and also in close proximity if you need any help. It's Korean BBQ, get your meat, start grilling, get your pickled veggies, soup, rice and enjoy the meal!!! Now, if you're looking to be served and catered like on a sit-down restaurant, this is not the place for you. This is a place where you choose the meat cut and marinade you want, grill it yourself and enjoy at your own pace. Maybe not a place to visit every week but definitely at least once a month!!! Just ok.. the whole concept is weird. I serve myself, I cook myself, at the end, they ask for a 20% tip. We came in for lunch, the whole place was empty which should've been a dead give away, but despite this we decided to stay as Teri cafe around the corner was packed to the brim. The lunch advertised wasn't the lunch we were offered and our bill was double at the end :/ didn't like this one bit, especially since we weren't even offered a menu to start with. Walked in randomly. I was immediately welcomed and seated. The setting was pleasant and clean with fun decor. This place operates a little differently than most Korean BBQs I've been to so there was a bit of learning, however, I'm an immediate fan of their methods. Here you go to a buffet area where you pick out all of the raw meats you want to cook. Also they have all the fresh veggies and all the Korean accoutrements you could ask for. They also have a diverse sauce section where you can try out over 6 different sauces. My favorite was the home made spicy soy sauce! I didn't ask for anything special, but I notice more advance customers ask for custom dishes or items and the staff was pleasantly accommodating. This is a nice clean and quiet gem in the area. Staff is constantly keeping the food presentable and cleaning up after the customers. I've come twice on the weekdays for Lunch to stuff myself with meats especially the teal pork belly chunks, squid, and beef brisket. I don't eat the soup, gyoza, or banchan because those will make you full faster. You can get however much you want so you have relative portion control and not have to feel guilty of wasting food. read more

I'm pretty sure all these 5 STAR REVIEWS ARE FROM FAMILY/FRIENDS. They also had family and friends standing outside making it look like there was a wait/line to eat. DON'T BE FOOLED like we did. There was absolutely no one eating inside during prime dinner time, and there was a reason for this. 1. Poor quality meat that looks like it's been frozen for months. 2. They served luke warm miso soup that tasted like a "just add water" packet. 3. The rice in the steamer was definitely left over re-heated rice from the day before. 4. Our grill kept shutting off every ten minutes and they kept having to restart our grill. We asked to switch over and they just kept trying to fix the one we were sitting at while our food got cold. At the end of our meal when we were done eating, they finally offered us to switch tables. 5. They don't have most of the typical sides that come with KBBQ restaurants, like rice paper, steamed egg, kimchi pancakes and fresh salad, etc, 6. It's $27/adult which is extremely steep for this quality of food. Places like GEN and Manna are cheaper than that and those places are 4 STAR quality. The only good thing about this place is the positive attitude of all the servers. They were all very nice and smiling... probably trying to mask the crappy food they were serving us. read more

Mediocre at best. My husband and I love KBBQ and are new to the area so we thought we would give this place a try. We show up and there were around 6-8 employees, sitting having lunch. No one was at the front to greet guests, they did get up immediately to have us seated. We were the only ones in the restaurant, it felt like all eyes were on us. The staff was kind and attentive throughout our lunch but we did have to ask for our grill to be changed. Then comes the food, it is self serve. This is both a pro and a con. PRO - it's nice as you don't have to wait for your food to be brought to you and you can monitor your portion sizes. CON - you have to get EVERYTHING yourself, it was a lot of back and forth from our table to getting food because I didn't have enough hands to get everything at once. I would forget napkins or have to go back for sauce, it was annoying. The quality of meat was sub par, the brisket was tough and everything has a frozen taste to it. I also have to agree with one of the other reviews written; they do not offer the traditional sides you would be accustomed to if you have eaten at kbbq before, no egg, salad, etc. My last complaint is price.. $26.99 for lunch, I was honestly shocked. I had seen the menu where I saw $19.99 for lunch which I was fine with, come to find out it was only on weekdays. I wouldn't mind paying this price if I got my money's worth but I feel like I was robbed to be paying that much. read more

I'm not sure about all these 5 star reviews on here... They are probably employees or family of the business. First of all, this is NOT the best Korean BBQ in North County by far. I came in here with high hopes but I was disappointed because I frequent Manna BBQ in San Marcos and other places in Kearny Mesa. The first thing that turned me off about the place was that my knee was burned by the grill from under the table. It is just sticking out and is extremely hot and there isn't any way to avoid it so I moved to the side of the table. Luckily we were a party of two.. There is absolutely no reason for this to occur and it is a huge hazard! Imagine if that was a child?? Beware. The meal was $26.99 for dinner and apparently drinks were included although I wasn't told this til the end and after I had only ordered a water... The meat was so-so and I didn't like the flavor of their side dishes compared to other Korean BBQ's I've visited. The meat and side dishes were all self serve, buffet style in a make-line where you must pick up the lid every time you want to get something. The items were labeled on top but I really couldn't tell if the labels were correct or not. Lastly, the employees kept coming over to our table of two, literally every 5 minutes. One lady even picked up my plate and moved it closer to me... As if I was a child. No ma'am I was trying to share with my boyfriend across the table... I have been doing the kbbq thing for a long time, i think i have had enough to really make a strong stance .. the meat was very chewy once it was cooked, it was frozen, so hard to cook. The 1 piece of pork i had, was good. The sauces, they have a lot of choices, but none really tasted quite right. Even the miso paste, watery. Fishcake pickles tasted off. Kimchi, very bland. Give them a break, this place just opened so have an understanding that things change and improve with some feedback. They try hard and it's obvious. Everything is new so the equipment is spotless. My fiancé and I came in Monday night so it was $26.99 I believe lunch is $19.99. We were a bit skeptical because it was serve yourself and you pick up and chose your meats. We sit down and start cooking, the ladies were friendly enough to help us cook and let us know if it was ready or not. Their service is mainly hands on! So be prepared. This place has serious potential, it is very simple layout and we love the buffet concept, but the meat was poor quality, like really bad. We eat kbbq alot, we try all of the locations. I have never been to a korean bbq and stopped eating after I tried each style we had a piece of chicken, fish, pork and beef. 10min into the meal, both my fiancé and I were done. Big bummer All the people who left positive reviews Either like poor quality of food or are friends and family of the restaurant owners. Don't be fooled by good reviews it's really bad meat. For a hole in the wall this place was good! I love how it's local and I don't have to drive 30 mins away or to SD for some kbbq. This place is like a buffet style kbbq place meaning you get your own meat, sides, sauce, and rice. They also had lots of fresh vegetables (including romaine so that you could make meat wraps) and delicious homemade sauces. I love the buffet AYCE setup; previous Korean bbq restaurants that we have visited (Gen, etc.) deliver the meat to your table, so you end up waiting or getting more/less food than you want. I used to be under the impression you could never go wrong with korean bbq, this place changed that. It was buffet style, so all the non marinated meats were frozen solid as to not go bad. The marinated meats were very salty, and not what you would expect if you are used to recognizable dishes like bulgogi. Not a good experience. On top of that, they charge dinner price all weekend, but wont tell you that until they hand you the bill. It was very loud with all the vents going, and yet my eyes still burn from smoke, because they never came around to replace the cook tops. read more

I too was given a 2 hour wait @Gaja. I was on a time crunch and wanted some bbq. I called MBBQ and the answered promptly. I ask for a reservation and they said no wait. I quickly made a u turn and upon arrival there was plenty parking. We were starving so I love that you just get up and get the items you want. I also love rice and hate having to ask my waitress over n over again to bring more, I just made myself a big enough plate. I also love that we're not wasting food. If you only want 2 shrimp and two strips of chicken I don't have to receive a whole order. When we were done we were offered ice cream. To our surprise ice cream is included with our diner. One last thing is that there is a stopwatch clock and if you stop the clock on exactly 10 minutes you get your meal for free. My time was 9:79 so I didn't get my meal for free but it was worth it to see our entire party try. I love this place, the price and vibe. Also it's not fancy and looks outdated but nothing like that bothers me. Don't judge a book by its cover per say. read more
