Delicious, bouncy, fresh noodles! Highly recommend coming earlier but for big groups, you'll have to split up. We sat near the bar seating, sadly, saw a silver fish slowly creeping up on my bowl. Super gross but honestly the food was so good I just didn't really care lol. Also ensure you confirm w the wait staff that your order is in, turns out their online system was not working and we waited a while before asking only to find out our order wasn't received. Make sure you Get the soy milk and garlic cucumbers and the dry pork and tomato noodle! Silverfish, odd service aside, everything was So flavourful and delicious! That's part of the charm of a more hidden gem !

Tucked away inside an ordinary business building, this northern Chinese noodle spot feels like a delightful secret waiting to be discovered. The entrance can be easy to miss the first time. You'll likely circle the building once or twice but that small bit of wandering is part of the adventure, and you'll be rewarded within minutes. Steer your expectations away from décor. The dining room is unapologetically basic, furnished with folding picnic tables and a vibe that's closer to a humble canteen than a polished restaurant. It is not pretty, but that stripped-back atmosphere somehow lets the food do all the talking! Let's deep dive into the noodle bowl. The noodles are the real star and spiciness is the theme here. Perfectly bouncy with a pleasing thickness that gives each bite satisfying resistance. They hold up beautifully in the broth and pair wonderfully with the tender, braised beef, which comes slotted generously into the bowl. The broth itself is savory and well-balanced, complementing the noodle texture and meat without overpowering them. Honestly, it's the kind of bowl that feels both comforting and expertly executed. Small dishes also shine. The chili sauce wontons offer a lovely peanut kick that's balanced and flavorful; while the preserved egg dressed with soya chili sauce presents a shaper, savory heat. They are distinct flavor profiles. I found myself leaning a bit more toward the wontons, though the preserved egg is certainly enjoyable. It's just a matter of personal taste. Portion sizes and pricing make this spot a standout for value. The food quality you get here feels unbeatable. The price is simply unbelievably inexpensive in today's economy. Service is another pleasant surprise. A single server on that evening was cheerful, attentive, and managed everything efficiently, adding to the overall positive experience. If you can overlook the minimal décor and focus on the food, and if you particularly like spicy food, this little Markham gem delivers authentic northern Chinese noodles with heart and skill. For anyone who prioritizes flavor and authenticity over frills, this place is highly recommended! Don't forget about the 5% cash discount.

Another hand pulled noodle place with free refills...I love it! This is a restaurant with an entrance at the back of an office building. I ordered the beef noodle soup and spicy pork dumplings. Got my free refill and put the noodles into the spicy pork dumpling soup. All very yummy! The beef noodles were al-dente chewy excellent. The beef and soup flavors are similar to other places like this. The wontons are pork only without shrimp but the wrappers were delicate. A server was attentive so overall a good experience and will be back if I get that hand pulled/knife cut noodle itch. Oh and you get a 5% cash discount also.

Truly a hidden gem! Tucked away at the back of an office building, I never would've realized there was a restaurant here if I hadn't come across it on IG There's 2 entrances: one in the back (you'll see a white circle) and one through the inside of the office building from the front (they have signage) Inside, there's minimal seating. Can fit probably around 20 people are so. Been here a couple times now and tried a few different items. Price is affordable, portions are huge, and they even have free refill if you order the knife cut noodle but one bowl is plenty to fill you up. Salad Mix: I get this everytime and love how we can mix and match the different apps/salad Sliced Dried Noodle w/ Pork & Veggie (little spicy): this is my go to order! Beef Noodle w/ Soup: tried it with both knife cut noodle and potato noodle. Beef was tender, both variation was great but if you get the one with the potato noodle, it comes with more toppings Sliced Noodle w/ Tomato, Egg, and Pork: simple but hits the right place Sliced Noodle w/ Pickled Veggie & Pork: it's okay, but prefer the other options more Sweet & Sour Meatballs: the taste kinda reminds me ikea meatballs. I like it but found the sauce to be too thick/goopy Chili pepper w/ Preserved Eggs: WAYYYYYY TOO SPICY.

'Knife Cut Noodles' is also 'Shanxi Noodles' when you google on map. This small eatery is hidden inside a commercial office building without sign to be found, obviously the place survives by words of mouth. You may enter from front through building entrance, then restaurant entrance is on right hand side, or otherwise you may go around to the back of the building for the back entrance. The place is with basic decorations and with not many tables, it was full on a Tuesday lunchtime. They serve authentic Shanxi cuisine such as soup noodles, cold noodles, dumplings, a variety of cold appetisers and hot dishes. We tried the signature pork soup noodles, pork & cabbage dumplings, cold pork slices, and a cold vegetable combo. All foods were strong in taste but flavourful. Service was good, portion sizes were good and inexpensive, we'll come again.

Knife cut noodles are tasty and made fresh to order. I had the pork and veg noodle in soup. Also wontons in soup. A nice broth with a slight tang note.

We visited 老山西面馆 with our two kids. It's tucked away in the northwest corner of Warden & Highway 7, inside an office building -- the sign is small, so it's easy to miss. The restaurant itself is tiny, with only about 5-6 small tables. We ordered Beef Knife-Cut Noodles, Lamb Knife-Cut Noodles, Hot & Sour Vermicelli, a cold appetizer combo, and a crispy pepper-salt flatbread. What we liked: Both the beef and lamb knife-cut noodles were chewy and well-made, with generous portions of meat and good flavor. The flatbread was crispy, and the cold dish was fresh. Service was quick and efficient, and prices are reasonable. What we didn't like: The Hot & Sour Vermicelli was a complete miss -- the chili used had a harsh, choking spiciness rather than a fragrant heat. I only had a couple of bites before giving up. Overall: If you're craving authentic Shanxi-style knife-cut noodles, this is a great spot to try -- just skip the hot & sour vermicelli.

Cheap homemade noddles I saw this place on map, but it is hard to find. It is at a back of a office building. I would not expect an office building has a small restaurant. If you want to come here, park at the office building parking lot as map suggested. Walk into the back. We came on a Saturday, and this place is not busy. There were only a couple of tables. The food is very homemade, fresh noddles, large portion. There is 5% discount if you pay cash. I would definitely come back because it is pretty cheap. I would recommend if you want to eat homemade noodles.

Shanxi Noodles is a restaurant that I would never have known existed on the map, even if I were to live close by, if a colleague of mine had not taken me there. All the menu seems to have the same common base and then customized to your liking, e.g, beef, porc and spicy or not. I typically choose a restaurant that offers food creativity options that I would not be able to make at home and replicate that same taste or close. I ordered the beef noodles with the option of adding spiciness. Ordering is done by taking a photo of the barcode stuck on the wall and choosing the menu which goes to my cart. Once I confirm, the order goes directly to the kitchen. Service was very fast and pleasant. The size of the bowl was enormous and I wished that they could cut back on the size and by default, the price too. It was far too big for my lunch and half a bowl would have been enough, as the rest went to waste. Although the food was tasty, it looks plain, to the extent that there is nothing that I could not replicate at home. It is an ok menu but not one that would arouse my urge to have a repeat. Since all the rest of the menu has similar common characteristics, it is as if I have tasted all the different food on the menu.

A hole in the wall noodle place, located behind an office building. The entrance was very hard to find but there were a handful of cars parked. The food was mediocre and tasted like something I can make at home. It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special either. The broth wasn't very flavourful. The noodle were also a little too soft. There's a sign in Chinese that says if you write them a 5 star google review, you get a free side dish.

The use of traditional elements, paper-cut window designs, red Spring Festival couplets, old-style newspaper wall coverings, and exposed brick adds a strong sense of nostalgia. It feels immersive and intentional, almost like stepping into a countryside home in Dongbei rather than a typical restaurant. The décor isn't fancy, but it's rich in cultural detail and warmth, perfectly matching the hearty, comforting style of Northeast Chinese cuisine. The space is unique and perfect for taking photos. The food here is very generous. We ordered the 4-person set with two side pots. Tomato Braised Beef Brisket and Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms and the portions were huge. Both pots arrived steaming hot and filled to the brim, clearly meant for sharing. The braised beef was rich and hearty, while the chicken pot was comforting and full of flavor, making it perfect for group dining or cold weather meals. Combined with the rustic, traditional décor, it really feels like authentic Northeast Chinese comfort food. The food and atmosphere were excellent, though the service was a bit lacking. Prices are reasonable for the generous portion sizes and the unique restaurant décor.

I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

Everything tasted great. The crab was a little overcooked as the meat stuck to the shell and the steak was a bit under and more rare than medium rare but everything was delicious. The lid on my shredded potato salad wasn't on properly and the sauce leaked through my Fantuan bag. The food gets five stars. Sadly, the lid on my potato salad wasn't securely on the container. I had my food in my insulated bag, so the sauce leaked into the Fantuan bag and my insulated bag. Luckily, my car was fine. As a result, my rating is four stars. I wanted to try a new eatery. I looked at my Fantuan app and noticed He Bei Chinese Cuisine. It had dumplings and snacks that I enjoy, so I said yes to placing a dinner order from this eatery. I ordered these items: - Pork and chive steamed dumplings (large has 14 dumplings) - Tea eggs - Shredded potato salad On Fantuan, when you purchase $15 worth of food, you get the shredded potato salad for a cent. Deal! After placing my order near my home, I drove over to this eatery. The drive was ten minutes. I was given an estimated time of fifteen minutes. It was ready in ten minutes. I had no problem finding this eatery. There was plenty of parking. I pulled into a spot and walked in. I saw the Yubu sign. My heart sank, as I loved the Korean tofu pockets from this joint. I liked seeing places to sit down and eat at He Bei. Nice! A woman behind the counter came over. I said that I had a Fantuan order. She talked to me in Mandarin. I don't understand it, but we were fine communicating with each other in our languages. She pointed out the blue Fantuan bag on the table behind me. I thanked her and wished her a nice day. She said thanks right back. I put my food in my insulated bag. With the leak, I managed to launder the Fantuan bag and clean my insulated bag. After I cleaned up, I had dinner at home. The food was amazing and filling! I loved the shredded potato salad. Sure, a lot of the sesame-soy sauce was gone. However, it tasted yummy. It was worth the cent! The steamed pork and chive dumplings were so good. I didn't dunk them in soy sauce. The filling had so much moisture that I felt like I was eating soup dumplings. The filling had yummy flavour and the dumplings were steamed to perfection. Excellent! You can buy frozen dumplings from this place. I'll need to do it. The tea eggs were the perfect snack while streaming hockey games. I peeled the shells off both of them. The eggs were cracked to allow the amazing soy-based sauce to marinate and get into the eggs. Delicious! I'm a fan. I'll take a closer look at the lids on my food next time. I'm glad that I put food in my insulated bag. It saved cleaning my car's upholstery! (59)

So we ordered Maggi Lobster (~3lbs) for $34/lb, and stir fried beef with Chinese broccoli (gai lan). The lobster was cooked perfectly, with the Maggi sauce not being too salty. They definitely gave us all the pieces of the 3lbs lobster. The gai lan had a bitter aftertaste, which is common for this vegetable. I wished they had a way to get rid of that. They were generous with the amount of beef and was well marinated. The cut wasn't that great, but that is to be expected. I don't think they added much MSG or at least used good quality ones, as we did not feel overly thirsty later in the evening. They give free daily soup and dessert. What we were most impressive was with the service. The waiters were very attentive, changing our plates twice during our 1ish hour meal. The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.
