My kitchen knives were pretty dull. I made a call to Ted last night to schedule a drop off. 45 minutes later, I had 9 perfectly sharpened blades. Ted does all the work right out of the back of his van. I'm pretty sure he will go right to your house, but you should call to make sure. He was able to repair my cleaver that had a slight bend on the tip and even made my beat up pocket knife like new. You don't have to be a restaurant, trained chef, or even a "Foodie" to know that dull knives make working with food a tedious and frustrating job. After looking and asking around for a good knife sharpening servce in the area, I was told of Ted Kelley and "Knives Like New." I got his number from a local restaurant employee and am thrilled I did. Knowing he does sharpen a lot of restaurant's and layperson's knives, I thought I would give him a try. He answered his # (860)885-8099, and happened to have an opening that very day. I met him on Rt. 1 (where he ususally keeps his truck/work station) and gave him my knives. Not only was he knowledgable, he was happy to anwer my (hopefully not too niave) questions. I found Ted to be professional and friendly. He sharpened all 8 of my knives, including a serrated. He warned me to be careful with the knives untill I got used to having them sharpened. Boy, was he ever on the money! A couple of Band-Aids (and some humble pie!) later I have again returned to cooking at home much more often and definetly realize the importance of having sharp knives. I reccomend "Knives Like New" highly and will not hesitate to use his service again. A true hidden gem, that at least so far, mostly only locals know about.
