I feel like folks don't know this area is even in Diagon Alley. This was a great escape from the heat of the day and it actually felt like you were in a nice, cool, evil potter town late at night. This may be my favorite area in any of the Wizarding Worlds in Orlando. The fact that they made sure it was almost PITCH DARK was something I would not expect from a theme park, but that is what I specifically love about Universal. They are committed to the integrity of their IPs, and are just fine with making things genuinely spooky (see Darkmoor in Epic at night.) There are some hidden spells and tricks in Knockturn Alley that are so delightful. For example, after you do Alohamora on the door spell, try twisting the door knob as if you are entering. Doing a spell into the sky??! And the atmosphere reacting? So cool. But my favorite part of Knockturn Alley is a wand quest that ends here with a patronus spell. I believe it is the Dark Arts quest and you absolutely must do it next time you are visiting! read more

Knockturn Alley is a cool little alley located in Diagon Alley at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Florida. If I recall correctly, there are two entrances/exits, one of which is by the Leaky Cauldron restaurant. This location is consistent with the Harry Potter fictional universe, so props to the folks at Universal for getting that right. According to the Harry Potter Wiki: "As with Diagon Alley, Knockturn Alley was not directly accessible from the Muggle world. The Leaky Cauldron pub provided one access (via Diagon Alley), while Apparition and Floo Powder were other access options." I've seen all eight Harry Potter films, but don't remember much. On YouTube, I rewatched parts of the movies that took place in Knockturn Alley and Borgin & Burkes, "traders of dark arts objects and oddities." There is an actual Borgin & Burkes shop that you can visit and purchase items from here. In my opinion, the designers and builders did a good job recreating the eerie and shady atmosphere of Knockturn Alley and Borgin & Burkes. There were at least three places where we could stand and use a Harry Potter wand to do magical things. One was unlocking a door from the outside (the lock inside turned with our wand motion), another was mutating a caged bird with candle smoke from nearby (this used video), and another was making a skeleton match your movements (this also used video). The latter reminded me of a motion-controlled video game, a lot like using a Wii Remote and dancing. We had problems getting our wand to work at the first two places. An employee nearby helped us both times. If you visit Diagon Alley, be sure to explore all of it, including Knockturn Alley. It's fun. read more

I love this section in the park. It definitely gives you the feel of what you expect in either the movies or the books. There is a section for spells with the interactive wands as well. The shop inside has both merchandise and movie replicas. It's normally much cooler in the area so if you need to cool down I would recommend a walk through. read more

In the Harry Potter books Knockturn Alley is a shopping area off of Diagon Alley frequented by those who practice the Dark Arts. It is where you would expect to see the Malfoys and Death Eaters shopping at one of the most famous stores, Borgin and Burkes which specializes in curious artifacts with strong magical properties. In the Wizarding World at Universal Studios Knockturn Alley opened on July 8, 2014. You can find Knockturn Alley off of Diagon Alley where there is an entrance next to the Leaky Cauldron and a second entrance to the left of Gringotts Bank. In addition to visiting Borgin and Burkes, there are five interactive wand spell locations. These include the Chimney Sweep Elf sign which causes a chimney sweep to start sweeping, Noggin and Bonce which causes the shrunken heads in the window to stop singing Show Me the Way Home, a song that was sung in the movie Jaws. It is an easter egg to the Jaws ride that was removed to make room for the Wizarding World, Dystal Phalanges where the skeleton in the window will mimic you, Trankelshanks Locksmith where you can perform a windy spell, and Tallow and Hemp Toxic Papers where the spell will cause an interaction with the birds. Although Knockturn Alley is small I always do a walk through when I visit the park. If you are a Harry Potter fan you will love all of the details that make you feel transported to the books. One of my favorite details is how when you look up you see several different projections of the night sky. Although the alley is made to look forbidding there is nothing scary about it. This is a wonderful recreation in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios Florida. The attention to detail is fabulous and with a little imagination, makes you feel included in the Harry Potter books. You'll swear you're directly off Diagon Alley in London. It's dark and eerie and you feel like a dark wizard. Stop in to Borgin and Burkes or Noggin and Ronce. From the shops and the street vendors you can purchase, among other things, shrunken heads, poisonous candles, human-looking fingernails, and Flesh eating slug repellent. A Dark Arts smorgasbord. If you have a chance, you should walk through it multiple times - there is something new to discover each time. Right within the vicinity of Diagon Alley (in Universal Studios), is a darker more sinister section called Knockturn Alley. This is where all the dark arts come alive! There are shops and window displays along this alley, all devoted to the gruesome and scary. Here is where you can also use your interactive wand to make things magically happen. But use caution, the outcome may not be so pleasant! This eerie and creepy side of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, features shops that sell skeletal remains, shrunken heads, herbs, candles, scrying mirrors, magic potions, ritual weapons and other paraphernalia for those who take the dark arts seriously or just for the fan fun it! Though this place is very similar to the movies, I don't really see what the excitement is. There's a couple of places where you can use your wand and there's one store, but honestly it's just a big dark alleyway. Is it very similar to the movies? Yeah, they got the details down great, but it's nothing that exciting here. I think they should add some sort of restaurant here and it would definitely boost the excitement, but honestly very boring and I walked through the whole alley in 10-15 minutes. If I was a real wizard, I would spend a loooot of time at Knockturn Alley (or the American equivalent). While I wouldn't be a dark wizard, I understand that many of the things I like are considered weird. And pretty much everything I can find would probably be in Knockturn Alley. Of course, Knockturn Alley is a kid-friendly vision of how it would be. Because, let's face it, everything at the Wizarding World is kidded down. There's a few creepy things set up, but nothing too bad. Plus, it offers such a respite from the blazing Florida sun. Knockturn Alley is shrouded in eternal night. It's dark, deliciously cool, and it also has a few really neat interactive wand hubs in this area you shouldn't miss. Actually, some of my favorite interactive spots are here. Perhaps they would be constructed a little more sinister than the other interactive spots, but I thought there were some really cool effects. For some reason the interactive wand spots here worked better than those spots outside in Diagon Alley... Hmmm... For reference, Borgin and Burkes is here. You can shop for some clothes and other merchandise like fake skulls, real bugs set in resin, and Death Eater memorabilia. The Vanishing Cabinet is also stationed here, and if you press your ear to it, you can hear the chirping of birds. But outside of that, Knockturn Alley is its own entity; dark, cool, and oozing with creep. My kind of place. I'll be back here every time, no doubt about it. read more

Knockturn alley was perfect and a great rendition of how it is depicted in the books and movie. I actually felt a little nervous turning from the cheerful Diagon Alley into this dodgy darkness filled with shops depicting shrunken heads, malicious potions, and skeleton bones. The interactive feature is eerie (aka perfect) and all I could think when I came across Borgin and Burkes was Ron- "it's a creepy place, he's a creepy bloke" right you are Ron. But I wager even Malfoy would shiver a little bit at all the strange items set on display in this shop here in Orlando. Well done! read more
