I really like this bar, friendly bartenders and chill-sometime loud atmosphere; although I wish there were more beers on tap (of which there's about a handful). I always grab a 512 IPA (always on tap). The prices are decent and Tuesday is $3 pint night. The owner is usually out and about socializing, as well as other staff, even on their nights off. Not too far from Muller or 35 it's nice place to hit up if you don't feel like going all-the-way downtown. A typical dive bar. Outdoor patio, dog friendly, TVs playing the game, cheap beer, not your typical jerk hipster bartender you usually see working these types of places. Actually a very friendly staff. There's a small lot to park out front. They have a few menu items like pizza and a decent craft beer selection. It's quite the hike and change from where we live in Sunset Valley, but I would probably come back again for the chill atmosphere and to hang out with my friend who lives in the nearby neighborhood. read more

Dog friendly, sunday brunch buffet and bottomless mimosas. Theres a large covered patio and smoking section, the overall vibe was chill and informal with a side of music. Great for Sunday Brunch. Nomad didnt have the rush you would find at some ot her Brunch spots the morning I went; this made the entire experience even more enjoyable. Bloody Mary's made with Tito's are perfect, the Omelet station is a great option, and the freshly made home fries with gravy were killer. Brunch is a $15 bracelet and its well worth it. read more

I know the owner so I used to hang out here a lot before I had kids... the patio is lovely and great in the evening. I love $1 Tecate Mondays and appreciate their clean bathrooms, but the bartenders tend to be snooty hipsters who take forever and don't acknowledge you if they don't know you personally. Now that I don't get to go out much, I don't have the patience for hipster snobbery. Makes me sad because I think the place has a nice vibe otherwise and a diversity that a lot of bars closer to downtown sorely lack. read more

Real cool spot. Off the grid. Great prices, fun people, fun times. I'm only writing this because there was one specific asshole who worked there who decided that he wanted to flex his nuts and tell us to leave after closing time even though there were a good dozen others who were still hanging out. He likes Florida. He wore Florida gear. Extra assholey pretty much. We called him out and got crap for it so we caused a scene as we left. As we waited outside the owner Miguel came out and personally apologized and it was the coolest move ever by a bar owner. He said he would reprimand the idiot who thought he was the bees knees but who knows if he did. Either way I really appreciated the damage control and it was a really fun bar. Best neighborhood bar EVER. Been a regular here since it opened. Bartenders are friendly, and the owner is around on a regular basis. A good mix of live music and karaoke on the weekends. I have also met a lot of great Windsor Park neighbors here that I may not have met otherwise. Plus, Sunday brunch is super yummy (bottomless mimosas). Nomad happens to be a great middle ground for my group of friends, so that's why we go there ... would we go there if it were on 6th? .... possibly not. Good: Mostly friendly bar staff. I've had a couple snotty barkeep moments, but overall it's good. Drinks = good. Ambience = good (mostly your average joes with a sprinkling of hipsters) Location is ideal. Bad: Holy hellfire the patio can get hot in the summer (by summer, I mean most of the year). We mostly like to sit out there for the smokers and its too loud inside. They NEED to stop serving that pizza. I'll take chips and HEB salsa rather than that shit. read more

This place is great! Perfect neighborhood bar, and a lovely respite from my usual E 6th gig... I went on a Monday and was surprised to see how many people were there, but once I settled in I realized it's no wonder- the beer is cheap, the service is great, and to top it off, the gals djing (apparently they're the normal Monday outfit) played a wonderful eclectic mix, that pleased even this music snob! Live down the street from nomad. Never been disappointed. The staff is always very nice and fast, the vibe is super chill with great music along with awesome live music. They have a great patio space, that is just as comfortable as their indoors. A great place to bring friends and spend and night with some good drinks. Their happy hours are always worth it as well as an awesome service industry night on sundays. And to top it all off they serve some dank pizza until late in the evening (until around 12:30), just finished a crawfish and pineapple pizza that was killer. Recommend for anyone who likes small local bars. read more

I went there for the first time last night and had a weird experience with the bartender... it all started when I ordered a soda. The bartender started to fill a glass without putting ice cubes in it first, so he dumped a cocktail shaker full of ice cubes into the glass *which using his bare hand to keep the ice from spilling out onto the counter* which means he basically put his dirty hands in my glass. Bartenders touch all sorts of dirty things, including money and people's used glasses, so I thought that was pretty disgusting. I then handed him a card to pay for the soda (which in itself bugged me because I'm used to free sodas at bars that make their money off of alcohol, but whatever). He took my card, ran it, and handed it back to me BEFORE telling me, "There's a $10 minimum on credit cards so I'm just going to leave it open." I wasn't planning on buying anything else, so luckily a friend with cash helped me out. It struck me as odd that he didn't tell me about the minimum as I handed him the card, like most places seem to do. Granted, it was a bar and people generally spend more than $2, but I think it would have been nice to be made aware of the policy first so that I could make a decision. It's unfortunate that these things occurred on my first visit to this place. It makes it difficult to form an unbiased opinion of it now. read more

I want to love this place since it's the only "true" neighborhood bar I have (i.e., within the actual boundaries of my neighborhood), but there's just something a bit off a lot of the time when I head there. Whether it's the antiseptic smell, the loud club music at 6pm, the weird them nights (football karaoke ... really?), or the inconsistency in the cocktails --- it just seems that there's usually something strange and new and not completely pleasant when I head there. That's not to say it's all bad. $2 pint nights are great, the dog friendly patio is nice (though it gets no air movement, so a bunch of smokers combined with Austin heat can be a bit much) and most of the bartenders are nice. Still, if this weren't several blocks from my house, it would not be in the bar rotation. That said, I'm happy it exists, because sometimes that extra half mile to get to Barfly's is just too damn far. read more

They never make weak drinks, they have the best peach margaritas and sometimes we will order one of their delicious pizza's...which is drool-worthy! Not only the fact I can walk to Nomad, this is the best neighborhood bar I could imagine. Very dog friendly on the outside patio, friendly vibe overall (but not a dive bar!) and I've found all the staff to be helpful and pleasant--even when busy! Great for either large groups or a date. The wine selection is good and the food is perfect fare -- not greasy appetizers but empanadas and salads. I'd give it a five but I want to keep it for our neighborhood. read more

Came in here a few days ago with some good friends of mine. Drinks were cheap, bartenders were (mostly) great and pizza was good. Hadn't been here in awhile and I'm glad I came back. Atmosphere was still chill and enjoyable. Only problem we had was one of the "bartenders," who I guess was a manager, was speaking very rudely to one of the other bartender. We felt particularly uncomfortable after seeing how rude this employee was being to the other. If you happen to see a woman with her foot on the cooler in a "power stance" with short boyish hair speaking too loudly, walk away. Nomad has always been a favorite, but will surely ruin it's friendly neighborhood reputation with an employee such as this. read more
