I haven't been here in a while. About 2 years ago it was alot better. Today I got the Frisco Burger Deluxe. It was alright but not as good as I remember it. The only thing that redeemed out was the Parmesan bun. The fries were whatever. Is it me, or does it always feel like the place is about to close down when you walk in here? I'm not a real fan of the burgers, even though they declare them to be world famous. I typically order the fish and chips. I like the irish nacho upgrade. Yum. The make a mean shake, and give you enough for two people with one order. Only one register open on a Saturday. Waited over 25 mins just to place an order for mediocre food that I waited another 45 mins to NOT get. Seriously this place had plenty of workers just standing around looking at their phones and gossiping with each other that they could have manned one of the other 2 registers. Been going to Knowlwood for over 50 years. In Anaheim, they had a location where the parking was on gravel. Vividly remember that as a child. The baby best was delicious and I looked forward to going. All the locations were pretty rustic, but the food was consistently good. I've visited the Irvine location a few times in the last 3 years. The dining room is particularly dirty, which is odd since they are taking Covid precautions, and the booths are broken down. My onion rings (6 small) were $3.99 and burnt. The next batch was soggy and tasted like the oil in the fryer hadn't been changed in months . My hamburger was raw, and I couldn't eat it. The staff is very lackadaisical, and don't seem to take any pride in their work. You can look passed a long wait and being short staffed at places you eat at now days, but cleanliness, poor quality service and food is kind of a deal breaker. It's really sad. read more

They serve breakfast dishes and sandwiches and burgers here. It's located off Sand Canyon Road and I-5 freeway right behind the Denny's Restaurant. I've been to four of the restaurants. Good burgers and prices. You walk up and place your order and wait for them to call your number. Soft drinks are self serve. Plenty of seating with both tables and booths. I've never been here for breakfast, so I can't give you a review on that. The burgers and sandwiches are pretty good and the servings are decent. I only been here for breakfast. But I think this is the only place in city if Irvine that serves hole in the wall breakfast goods like omelets, eggs, bacon, pancakes. It's cheaper than Ihop or Dennys and the give you more food. Only minor complaint is that the wait for service is slow and the decor is a run down barn. Definitely not some corporate franchise. Having lived in the area for years. I felt that I had to try Knowlwood Restaurant. The history of the building made me come to the business even more. However, this is probably the worst excuse for a restaurant. They advertise for the best Hamburger, and the best Breakfast. However, theirs no Breakfast on the menu and the gentleman next to me returned his burger for hair in it. So, that was a pass. Asked the cashier what she recommended, her response was "Irish Nachos", so I ordered that. My husband got the Philly Cheesesteak, and my son got a Grilled Cheese. All relatively common things. The restaurant was empty for a Sunday afternoon. I wondered why, but now I know, the food is disgusting. I don't know how this place is in business. The grilled cheese was burnt, the cheesesteak was a grease mess and the Irish nachos had one layer of cheese and I immediately went to the restroom. The only thing decent was the chocolate shake. Went here for the first time today. Burger was fantastic, but onion rings were only good, not great. I will definitely come back for the burger. The time is 4 PM. On a Friday. I've seen this place for the past four years driving by back-and-forth from work. I've always wondered why they claim to have the worlds best hamburger. Came back from work today establishment was relatively quiet but the lady at the register, was simply amazing. I don't know her name but she was a cute Afro American girl beautiful energy. I ordered a cheeseburger with bacon fry and a soda. Everything came out warm and delicious and great timing. This establishment is actually hidden but it's worth the detour. It's yet cozy and fun. The decor busy at modern and mostly vintage inspired americana. They are different booths. There's a pool table. If you're going there for a fancy modern luxury burger that's not the place but if you want a simple good traditional American burger I really enjoy it. And I'm very needy to have my burgers made. Took my wife here while in the area. Always got a great burger. Wife ordered beef dip and onion rings. The rings came out burnt. I was surprised the food server even served them. I asked for some onion rings not burnt. Waited about 1-2 minutes and received less burnt rings. I gave up. My wife, nor I didn't even try them. Looked like grease was old and rings came out burnt because cook left them cooking too long. The dip for the beef dip had a bad taste to it. Wife took sandwich home and made her own au Jus sauce. She later told me the sandwich was ok. The meat was cut thick, unlike a lot of beef dip sandwiches that have thin slices. But the meat was ok; just ok. My burger was slopped together but tasted ok. Pickles were like stuck together on the inside. The fries were under cooked. And the place was not that busy! Surprised that it was not busy. All the times I went there before it was always busy at lunch. Possibly people got the word to avoid it. The help is very friendly. One person was bussing tables, slowly. If someone wants a refill, they can help themselves to the soda machine, or ask at pickup for more coffee/tee or whatever is not in sofa machine. Knowlwood definitely lost something or someone. My guess, the cook did not know what he was doing on Friday around 11:30am. He definitely was not that busy. I doubt I will go back for a while; a long while. Use to tell my friends what a kick-a place it was, but yesterday I sent out an email warning my friends to avoid it. Hope Knowlwood in Irvine figures out their issues! This a great location, with history of OC. It's housed in what once was the Irvine Blacksmith shop an they've kept it true to form. Knollwood has a huge menu and serves great portions. Lunch and dinner orders are taken at the counter. Breakfast at your table. I've had BLT, Bacon burger and chili dog. BLT and burger were great. Chili dog is a little different in that it is served on a plate full of chili beans: not to everyone's tastes. Breakfast are all very good, even the eggs Benedict. Coffee was good too. First off ... I don't know how this place has the good reviews it does... I came here with my husband on our way back from LA to stop for dinner. I got the wings and my husband got a turkey burger while our daughter got a kids chicken tenders and fries. The wings tasted like Tyson microwaveable nuggets that you could buy at the store. The turkey burger came as a beef burger and was very dry. And on top of that they forgot our daughters side order with her meal. The place was full of flies around the booths. Best fish sandwich and claw machine in south irvine! Burgers? Looked good but I went for the fish sandwich since they had grilled pollock...came out great! Their protein style is great with nice thick lettuce leaves and their grilled onions are small in quantity but perfectly cooked, not too burnt. Best of all, they have the best claw machine ever - 50 cents a pop and the claw goes down nice and slow, so you actually have a shot at getting stuff. The place with the "best burgers" has the best grilled fish sandwich and claw machine. Go for the claw machine. It's brilliant. read more

The service is a mess. No one cleans the tables until a customer comes in and asks to sit down. Our waiter wrote down our order on a napkin he grabbed from our table. It took 30 minutes for the food to come out and when it did, the food was not hot. The cups for self service water were dirty- there was dried coffee on the cup. When we ordered chocolate milk, the dirty cup had a red lipstick mark on it. When I went up to the counter to follow up on our order as it was taking so long, I heard another disappointed customer informing the manager about her bad experience that day. The food isn't good at all. I don't cook and I can heat up toast better than this restaurant. My omelette was runny and it was bland. The French toast was not even warm- it tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. Overall bad experience and not worth it. 100% will not return. read more

I waited 26 minutes for a lettuce wrapped burger and side salad on my lunch break. Completely ridiculous because they werent even busy. Right when I was about to get up and ask for my money back, they called my number. For that wait time, I expect 5 star quality food. This is not 5 star quality. Definitely not "worlds best hamburger" like they claim. Mediocre at best. Seems like this place used to be popular and good but has fallen off the scales. Knowlwood is one of the worst restaurants in Irvine. Right when you walk in, it's confusing--what kind of a place is this? Fast casual? Sit down? The couple who came in after us seated themselves at a table and waited for nonexistent wait-service before they figured out they had to order at the counter. Finding a place to sit was daunting as half the restaurant looked beat to hell and about a half dozen tables sported the cold, sad remains of past meals. I wanted breakfast but was told the guy who cooks breakfast was sick that day. Really? (Are eggs and bacon really that hard to cook?). So I opted for the Chicken Tenders (comfort food hard to mess up) and the wife ordered the Irish Nachos. She wanted to drink Dr. Pepper or something similar. Their soda machine sported Pepsi products but no Dr. Pepper--only Diet Dr. Pepper. Sad. Got our order of food--pleased with the portion size, but the elation did not last long. The BBQ sauce I ordered with my tenders was a congealed mess in a plastic cup. It looked as if it had a blackened crust at the top of it. Probably been sitting for a long time. Wish I had my camera to show the end result as I had to "dig" the morbid, off-color film off the cup with an overcooked fry (they were all overcooked--mostly inedible). My wife ate the Irish nachos half-heartedly which also contained overcooked fries and no-frills topping of cheese, deep-fried bacon, and green onions. One note. Dingy, depressing, disgusted.
