Great smash burger spot in DTSA! The patties are super crispy and cooked perfectly. Ingredients are well balanced so each bite has a bit of everything, with no one flavor being too overpowering. Ordered the Spicy Smash which had a nice flavorful kick. Burger was easy to handle and not messy. Fries were decent, but made better by the plethora of sauces available free of charge. Solid joint to go to if you're looking to scratch that smash burger itch!!
If you are craving a good flat burger, this is the place for it! I went just before the lunch rush so my food came out quickly. I ordered the classic hammer burger and a side of onion rings. The crisp of the flat patty was just right and the onion rings were extra crunchy. They have all their sides in pump jars on the side and you really can't go wrong with which one to use for a dipping sauce. The eating section has 3 TVs up and felt spacious enough between tables. All in all a great place for a quick lunch and good eats.

The Classic Burger arrives exactly how a smash burger should: wide, crispy-edged patties spilling over the bun, melty cheese, and mustardy House sauce dripping down our hands with every bite. What surprised us most was actually the sauce lineup. Most burger joints offer a couple of options and call it a day. Here, we've got buttermilk ranch, jalapeño ranch, chipotle mayo, white BBQ, Hammer sauce, and our fave: garlic toum. Creamy, garlicky, and addictive - we found ourselves dunking everything into it! The vibe is relaxed and lively, with plenty of TVs showing sports and a crowd that's there for good food and a good time. One thing to keep in mind: parking can be a bit of an adventure. There's plenty of metered street parking around, but it's a busy area, so you may need to circle a bit before scoring a spot.

It's all meter parking, although if you're just picking up, you might be able to get away with parking for just a few minutes like I did. The smash burgers, melts, hot dogs and sides are all super tasty without being greasy or heavy. Although I don't mind either...ha ha! Definitely recommend!
Very solid smash burger. I had their original and spicy smash burger and both were pretty good. Their fries were average and onion rings were okay. They don't do anything wrong and overall it's good just doesn't amaze me. The price is a little high and the location is right next to 4th street so it's pretty good other than parking. Come try it because I'm sure it is worth it to try at least once. They also had 3-4 TVs and a bar area to come watch some games. Also a happy hour exists as well.
Hammer Burger has quickly become one of our favorite casual spots for smash burgers, hot dogs, and shakes. Their smash burgers are cooked perfectly every time -- crispy edges, juicy center -- and the Hammer Sauce takes them to another level. They also offer a variety of sauces for free, including chipotle mayo, ranch, and my personal favorite, the jalapeño ranch. All of them pair really well with their shoestring fries. We usually park in the nearby parking structure, which (if I'm remembering correctly) offers the first hour free. The only thing to be aware of is that the area sometimes hosts street events, and on those days the structure charges a flat $10 fee even if you're just there to eat. Otherwise, it's an easy short walk to the restaurant. Inside, Hammer Burger has both a bar area and a dining area. You order at the counter, and the food is brought out to you. The staff has always been friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Overall, great food, great service, and a solid spot for a satisfying smash burger.
If you're looking for a smash burger experience this is your place. I've tried lots of places for smash burgers, and there simply is no competition. Try the original or like I do the Flattymelt which is kind of a grilled cheese hamburger hybrid. Onion rings here are good as well as the sweet potato fries.. always friendly service!!
A pretty good smash burger. Got double patty with sweet potatoes fries. The portion sizes here are enough for 1 person. The sweet potatoe fries were gas. The ambiance of the store is pretty cool with a unique design. Parking is mainly in the garage or street if you can find parking. The staff are friendly.
We're back and we're still obsessed except this time I have to shout out their burger of the month: the chorizo smash. IT IS SO GOOD! It's like a burger and a taco had a baby. We made it a triple and got the pickled onions on the side just cause and no regrets. Sidenote another special shout out to the beeriest beer cheese I've ever had (in the best way), like this cheese is almost hoppy and I love it sm. Final shout out to the service! Everyone's always so nice and hospitable. We usually sit at the bar and enjoy one of their rotational draft beers :)
We hit up Hammer Burger to help celebrate their third anniversary. We love this place and have been coming since they opened so this review is long overdue. The location off 4th street in Santa Ana is perfect, walkable to so many other cool spots in the area like Mission Control and 4th Street market but the food, beer and service make Hammer Burger a must visit. The smash burgers are tops when it comes to smash burgers, with crispy lace around the edges, super soft buns and an amazing selection of delicious house made sauces. We love to get a burger, split a basket of fries and sample every sauce along the way. Our favs include the garlic sauce, hammer sauce and Chipotle mayo but they are all delicious and you can self serve as much as you want. This is definitely a place for craft beer lovers. They partner and collab with local breweries so you are always sure to find delicious, fun new beers. We tried a Dole Whip smoothie sour beer from Bottle Logic and it was insane - completely stretching the limits of craft beer and surprisingly amazing. We also got a hazy IPA that was great. If you love smash burgers, sauces and craft beer, you won't be disappointed.
Food wise this place did not disappoint. I got the classic hammer burger the meat was nice and crispy yet juicy a perfect smash burger. I would say the hammer sauce was more on the mustard side by itself but it still paired very well with the burger all together. We also tried the calibama q dog and it was also delicious. The onion rings cheese, white bbq sauce all paired nicely. They really got their flavor profiles down. I like the lay out they have a little bar area on the left right when you walk in and plenty of seating on the right hand side. My favorite part was the sauce station. Any place that isn't stingy with their sauces will keep me coming back. They even have two go cups for your sauces and after you place a to-go order you get a paper bag for you to take sauces home. My only complaint would be on the cashiers. I came in on a Saturday night 1 hour before closing. The place didn't look super busy but people were still coming in. There was two cashiers and a line forming and they often had their backs towards the line waiting for food orders to arrive rather than attending the line. After my initial order I needed to add more and even though I was the only one in line and there were still two cashiers they still prioritize waiting for orders. I had to ask them if I could order more so that they would take my order..... I would definitly go back though because the food was that good!
Really good smash burgers. Parking is a little difficult. We did have to pay to park but the Smashburger was excellent. I had the classic smash. It was eight dollars, well worth it. Hubby had the flatty melt, with jalapeños and french fries. French fries were great. They also had homemade ranch and other dipping sauces. Will definitely come back when I want a great Smashburger.
The patty melt was delicious. The service was friendly and helpful. We picked this place based on the reviews and it did not disappoint. The sweet potato friends were so crisp and hot.

I've been to Hammer Burger now at least half a dozen times. I had to go to Santa Ana on a Saturday and decided to take my wife there for lunch, after 1:00. We were lucky and found a parking space on Bush St. We both ordered the Classic Hammer Burger ($10) and a regular order of shoestring fries. I was surprised at how busy they were. The burgers come out fresh and hot. They are smashed thin and have a crispy edge. The slice of cheese is perfectly melted. There are grilled onions at the bottom of the burger and the top is dressed with thick cut pickles and a decorative drizzle of Hammer Sauce. One of the things I like most about this burger is the overall texture and the proportions of beef to the steamed potato bun. It's soft and melty and delicious. The fries are great too (thin and crispy) and they have a nice selection of house sauces. Their signature Hammer Sauce, White BBQ sauce, Garlic Sauce, Chipotle Mayo, Jalapeño Ranch and Ranch. I went around the world and tried every one. Customizing your sauce by mixing a few together is not a bad idea and likely a veteran move. I have had their sweet potato fries before and they are above average. I have also had their chili cheese fries and a cup of chili...not bad. Their Flatty Melt ($11) was the first burger I tried when going the first time. Unique and tasty. I've also had Spicy Smash ($11) that has a pile of grilled jalapeño's on top. It's hot so be prepared. They have a nice selection of beers but I haven't gone down that road yet. Lunch was so good, I bought my son-in-law a $75 gift certificate. The downtown area has really be revitalized and now it's fun to walk around. read more

07.12.2026 Hubby and I decided to stop and try this place on our way back from spending the day in LA. We've seen it a few times because we've been around the corner at Loosies Pizza. The staff were friendly and attentive. We arrived right before the dinner rush. The place had TVs on and music playing. It seemed like a fun place to eat and hang out. One of the staff mentioned how they were packed last weekend with all the FIFA games. We ordered take out - a classic Hammer Burger, a half order of chili cheese fries, and a small order of onion rings. Sauce station was near the soda, you could get whichever ones you liked. Despite our 15 minute drive home, the food was still warm and really delicious. The burger had good flavor with and without their house sauce. The chili cheese fries were skinny fries with a cheese sauce and bean-less chili. The chili was filling and had a little kick to it. The batter-fried onion rings were (still) crispy and yummy with both ranch and the house sauce. We will definitely be back to fill our smashburger and chili cheese fries cravings! genuinely amazing burgers, I've been craving them ever since I first tried them. Service was good, the burgers were made pretty quickly, the price is a little expensive. I'm pretty sure the burgers were 12 each, however I would go get them again. Place was clean, and had cool art on the walls. and there were other business inside as well. I was visiting OC and this is supposedly my friends favorite smash burger spot. I can see why! Love the vibe of this spot. We sat at the bar and the bartender was really cool and very helpful. I got a single patty and it was soo good! My friend said I should get a double but the single was plenty! We got some sides too, fried and onion rings. And the onion rings were perfect, perfect balance between onion and batter. Also they have all these different sauces, all are pretty good! Especially the garlic! Yummm Check them out! read more
Looking to indulge in some great smash burgers? Hammer Burger is your place to go to. Not only was the service quick, with great meat and great recommendations, but you can also get drinks and beer here as well. One of the things that we really enjoyed was the chili cheese fries. We had a long, fun night out and just wanted to devour some dolch with some great burger and fries, and Hammer Strength has never disappointed. Lots of space on the inside with plenty of TVs for you to watch the local World Cup games, and I'd highly recommend the West Coast IPA that they have. read more
Hammer Burger, or Hammer Burger. Where have you been??? I'm so lucky I came across this spot! Smash burgers that are consistent, delicious and have lots of sauce choices. Excellent customer services. A fun vibe to eat in or take out, they are amazing either way! I also get greeted by Pepper, and any questions are answered with confidence. To avoid long lines, I recommend placing an order online through their website. I ordered the Calibama and my partner got the Spicy Smash. We tend to switch it up every now and then. I also get my cravings satisfied by eating these burgers. Only downside is it's a longer drive than other places but most definitely worth it. The price point is very helpful too. Come to Hammer Burger! No gate keeping here for the best smash burger in Santa Ana. read more

Another 5 star experience. This place keeps it simple and delicious. Great smash burger and excellent service. This time we went with the fried pickles and the sweet potato fries - both were a perfect pairing with the burger. I really enjoy all the fun dipping sauces to try. I will be back again. read more
I will start this review by foolishly sharing that I was somehow misrouted by my phone's GPS so I had one heck of a time trying to find this place! That being said, I snagged parking in a structure with the 1st hour of parking free. Otherwise the streets near Hammer Burger have metered parking. I am not familiar with the area so I don't know if there is any truly free parking nearby. My adventure is not factored into my rating at all. On to the good parts! Once I found the place, I walked in and found a pretty cozy place with a nice seating area. I was quickly greeted and ordered my single hammer burger and side of fries. It doesn't look like they have combos, so I did not get a drink (but if you are familiar with my reviews at all, you know I already had a matcha latte anyway!) I was pleasantly surprised by a normal sized burger that I can actually finish in one sitting. I don't like huge burgers! This one was a good size for me. The patty is very thin and crispy and cascades over the bun. It looks huge but it's just very wide. My burger had pickles, cheese, grilled onions, and sauce. I did not find the sauce to be overpowering at all, but I also enjoy mustard. If you don't like mustard or aren't sure, get the sauce on the side. The pickles were awesome! Thick, crunchy, and the perfect tanginess. The fries are unremarkable, but good. Thin and soft with a little crispy, and perfect for dipping. Speaking of dipping...they know people love their sauce. When I ordered to-go, I was handed a paper bag to put condiments in! I grabbed a few sauces to try; Chipotle, Alabama white sauce, Hammer sauce, and jalapeño ranch. The jalapeño ranch was my favorite! It has a tasty roasted jalapeño flavor with a mild heat. If you aren't a fan of spicy things, don't worry because I'm not either. This was the perfect heat for my liking. It is a little thin and runny so it had trouble clinging to the fries but it is very dunkable. If you want a beer with your burger, you're covered! They seem to have a pretty extensive drink menu. Lots of beer and other drink options. I don't drink alcohol so I didn't try anything, but they have some that sound good! Was it good? Yes, fun trendy place, friendly service, good food, and fun sauces. Was it outstanding? I can't complain, but when parking is hard to find or not free, I have to weigh the pros and cons. I need to come back for a milk shake though; it's hard to pass up! If you can excuse the parking, it's worth the trip! read more

Stopped by here for an early dinner. There is a good amount of parking around, including a nearby lot or meter parking right in front of the the store. Walking in, it looks pretty small since it looks like its combined with another store, but there's actually spacious seating on the farther right side. The environment is very welcoming and friendly here! I'm sure people come here to get a burger and have beer. I ordered the classic smash burger and a small size of fries. Which actually the small size of fries is pretty generous and can feed even for two! It didn't take too long for my order to be prepared, so service was quick and efficient. One thing I really enjoyed was how well their sauce bar is so STACKED. I loved trying all the new sauces here. I think the one I enjoyed the most was one of the bbq flavor ones.I also enjoyed how stacked their utensil area was, they are very well prepared. It's also all very clean too for a burger joint. Going in on the burger, it looked very messy to hold at first cause the patty and all was sticking out lol thank goodness for the knife and forks that they provide. The smashed patty was very flavorful, the hamburger bun was extremely soft, the melted cheese really brings out a lot of flavor, and their burger sauce all complements each other very well. Having to try all the sauces on the burger were all very nice too. The fries are on the slimmer side, but they're pretty solid and quite crispy. Enjoyable! Overall, experience was great here. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the burger. read more

was craving a smash burgers and stopped by here for the first time! got their original hammer smash ($10) and single portion fries ($3). you order first at the register and they brought it to our table which is very nice. love their own housemade sauce bar (free!!!) and ample clean seating. smash burger is good, exactly what i was craving. it's nothing too unique though, maybe since i got the original one, but nice to try if you're in the area read more
Great food! Happy people! Honestly you can go with here. I really liked my beef dip/smash sandwich. It was so good. I've been testing you try this place for a long time. If you like Cincinnati style chili, then this still is a NUST STOP to enjoy that your of chili. Spicy loaded fries are great. Just ask around a great place to do but have have what I think is the best smash burger in the oc I've had so far. Just great people, great dining room and fantastic food. Totally great place to have a smash burger and fries. Is you go tell them Frankie sent you. It won't get you anything but I love supporting great local businesses who fully do things right with a smile. read more

Looking for delicious smash burgers in OC? Look no further! Super flavorful burgers grilled to perfection with crispy edges! You have to try the fried pickles which are amazing! The best part is that they have a sauce bar with tons of sauces to pair with your burger and fries. The workers are friendly and helpful. Tons of table seating with a bar as well if you wanted to drink some beers. Located in downtown Santa Ana so parking is a challenge. I would recommend finding a structure nearby. read more
Such a yummy mom and pop shop in DT Santa Ana. They have a good variety on the menu from hot dogs to burgers, sides, and drinks. I really enjoyed the spicy hammer burger. It was super spicy and had nearly a full patty size equivalent of thinly chopped jalapeños. Super tasty and a well balanced burger! Great quality smash burgers for a fair price. We got the classic and the spicy smash (which does have a bit of a kick) but you can't really go wrong with either. In terms of parking, street parking would probably be the cheapest but there are also some lots/garages around. read more

A very yummy smash burger indeed!!! I got the spicy smash and I was really impressed. The meat was flavorful and juicy and the jalapeños and sauce created the perfect balance. I do wish my burger had more veggies though. I know smash style don't often add veggies, but just burger and bun makes me feel a little silly. Ecspecially when you also didn't love the bun and felt it was too heavy for the patty. I love that they had home made sauces! We tried all of them and only ended up liking 2 of them (chipotle mayo and garlic) the rest barely had any flavor. The sweet potato and string fries were DELICIOUS!!! The service was friendly and even asked us if this was our first time and made recommendations. I def felt taken care of it! And ambiance wise, this place was def more hip. Always looking for a good burger and this place didn't disappoint. Went in early on a Saturday and it was not too busy. It was clean and comfy. No frills but a few tv with all the sports playing. The counter server was very helpful and made great recommendations. The burger has a lot of meat and toppings so the bun was a little too small and doesn't really hold up but it is delicious! I will definitely go back when I am craving a good smash burger! read more

Stopped by Hammer Burger with a couple of friends on a Friday afternoon. They offer a variety of smash burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, milkshakes, and fries! They also have a delicious array of house-made sauces. We ordered three classic burgers, sweet potato fries, shoestring fries, and a caesar salad. The smash burger was absolutely delicious, with the crispiest edges ever. We must've gotten a salty batch, though, because they were very salty. The salad was needed but lacked that classic caesar dressing kick. We are sauce monsters™, so we were excited to try them all. We each found a favorite. The garlic and jalapeño sauces were the top picks. The sweet potato and shoestring fries were perfect vessels for the sauces! Oh, and the happy hour pricing was pretty good! read more

When is happy hour?
Tuesday - Friday, 2-5 PM. 20% off select food items, $2 off all alcohol.
Are the gluten free fries or sweet potato fries cooked in a dedicated fryer or same one the onion rings are cooked in?
Shoestring fries are cooked in a dedicated fryer and are gluten free and vegan. Sweet potato fries and onion rings are cooked in the same fryer together and are vegetarian. All meat products are cooked separately in their own fryer.
Are the chili cheese fries gluten free?
Our fries and chili are gluten free, but there is gluten in the beer cheese sauce because of the beer. Feel free to substitute American or shredded cheddar instead to make it gluten free.
Any gluten free options?
Yes. We can make any burger or sandwich a lettuce wrap and our shoestring fries, sweet potato fries, and loaded fries are gluten free.
Are you dog friendly on the patio?
Unfortunately not. We do not have an outdoor patio so we can only allow service animals inside.
Do you accept phone orders?
Not quite yet, but we’re working on rolling that out soon. Stay tuned!
Do you do private events and what's the minimum?
