Like Jerry Maguire, these folks had me at "Hello!' However, your favorite Yelp correspondent has savored well made burgers on two continents and in 42 states. Here's some tasting notes that my (probable/likely/one day) future son in law and I co-devised: The brioche buns, despite their pillowy softness and foodie-porn good looks, make a lousy vessel for any of their "wetter" burger choices. On Eli's Caddy Wagyu and my Good Night Burger, we both were left with bottom buns soaked like a sponge with various toppings incl bacon jam, house sauce, tomato juice and grilled onions. We sat at the bar so was served quickly. The beers are served cold and always refreshing got the hazy IPA and was delicious. I got the bacon jam burger and hubby got the bison burger also got small fires to share. Bacon jam burger wasn't overly greasy not too large with fluffy bun, love the bacon jam flavor,hubbys burger was less fatty but didn't taste too gamy. This is a very nice burger place. It's another of these 50/50 fast food restaurants ... You order at the counter like fast food but it's brought to you like a sit-down restaurant. My wife and I had both versions of the wagyu burger, and they were both very good. I haven't had a lot of wagyu burgers so I can't really compare with others ... I like the fact they have both styles of burgers -- the thick tavern-style as well as the thin diner-style. I would have liked my Cadillac burger cooked as like more like medium with a little pink earth l rather than well done, but because of the quality of the meat it was still pretty juicy. You can see from the picture that the side of fries is very generous. And this was the small! I do also wish they had onion rings as an option for sides, though. We ordered the Cadillac wagyu, goodnight/good cause burger, parmesan truffle fries, and the traditional hand-cut fries. Came back to Hopdoddy in Tustin after not visiting for quite a while to see if it was as good as I remembered. Overall, it was a decent meal, but a few things kept it from being a place I'd regularly come back to. The burger itself had great flavor and was cooked well. It was juicy, but almost a little too juicy--the amount of grease made it feel pretty heavy by the end of the meal. I enjoyed the first few bites, but it's probably not the burger I'd order again next time. The truffle fries were definitely the highlight. Crispy, well seasoned, and packed with truffle flavor without being overpowering. I'd happily order those again. The dining experience was a little less enjoyable. The seating system felt more complicated than it needed to be, and the restaurant was fairly crowded during my visit, which made it feel a bit hectic. I also noticed the TVs weren't showing sports or anything particularly engaging, so it didn't really have the atmosphere of a place where you'd want to hang out after your meal. Overall, the food was decent, especially the truffle fries, but between the overly greasy burger and the crowded atmosphere, this visit didn't quite live up to my memory. Hopdoddy Burger Bar proved itself to be an overpriced burger chain with horrible service. They don't even answer their phone which shows that customers are only important for monetary transactions. I came to this restaurant for the first time last week late on a Friday night. I was meeting my boyfriend for a late dinner and we wanted something quick and open late. This was conveniently located in the Tustin Marketplace and they were fortunately open until 11pm. Once we selected this restaurant, I downloaded their mobile app to see if they had a Rewards program, and was immediately granted a "Free French Fry" coupon. When I entered the restaurant, it was quite busy for 9pm on a Friday. I was immediately greeted by a very kind and helpful cashier (didn't catch her name but she had dark brown hair and glasses), who was very patient with me as I read the menu. She kindly notified me that I could use the free fry coupon on any of their availability options. I ordered the Magic Shroom burger, sweet potato fries, and a Oreo milkshake. The cashier then provided me with the number of the two top booth that she selected for us. At HopDoddy, the tables are assigned to the customer, even though it's a counter service restaurant. I actually preferred this method since it took the guess work out of me trying to find a suitable table :) Our food was brought out quickly with the fries being served first. They came with ketchup and an aioli sauce and I requested mustard on side. The fries were fresh and a generous portion. A great value considering they were free with the app coupon! The burger arrived, and I sadly have to admit that we were a bit disappointed. The flavor and temperature of the burger were good, but it was small compared the other restaurants serving $15 dollar burgers. The pesto sauce was the highlight of the dish. The Oreo milkshake is prepared with a custard base as compared to traditional ice cream. It was fine, but I wouldn't order it again. I prefer standard milkshakes as compared to a custard base. Overall, the staff members were friendly and our food was served quickly. The restaurant was clean and had the added benefit of being open late and being located in a central area of Tustin. That being said, the food was not memorable and I most likely wouldn't return on the basis of taste and satiety from the meal. The food comes out with standard timing. We ordered the burger as medium rare but it came out as well done as with several others that we were dining with. My favorite item is the Thunderbird. It's packed with flavor and is much more filling than it appears. The fries come in a generous portion that's great for sharing. There's a lot of great options for burgers including wagyu, bison, and ahi tuna. We started off with their Brussels sprouts leaves in a sage & hot honey sauce. They were so crispy, sweet, savory, with a little kick. Also got the chicken lollipops with buffalo sauce. Loved both! You can order any burger as a bowl on top of their salad mix or Brussels sprouts leaves, so we both did that. She got the Magic Shrooms burger with goat cheese, mushrooms, and a basil pesto on top of the Brussels sprouts leaves. This is a follow-up to a prior review and I'm placing it because it appears things have changed dramatically. This visit was today at lunch on April 4th. Food quality is the same for burgers but after delivering the wrong fries, they delivered the basket of sweet potato fries and these were burned. I mean they were black around the edges. The ordering process is fine then they give you a number and now you go find your table with that number. Instead of the normal number stick on the table and southwest airline seating arrangements. There's a giant roll of brown paper towel by every table for your sticky pleasure. The table tops have the sheen of a previous good time yet the burgers are no match for places like The Stand. Behind the ordering counter stashes a little vegetarian/vegan menu, like a saucy little secret. Anyway, the best thing on the table were the sweet potato fries. Been going to hopdoddy since they opened up many many years ago and can say it's still my favorite burger and fry joint around. While I'm not often in Irvine, I come back to this restaurant every once in a while for the incredible truffle Parmesan fries and burgers. The prices have gotten a bit steep compared to what they used to be, but i recognize the fries are intended to be shared with others, hence them costing almost $10 for one bowl. I do wish they offered smaller portions of the truffle parm fries as it ends up being $20 to get fries and a burger if you want anything basic the basic salted fry. I used to get the classic burger, which is always perfectly cooked and seasoned but this time around I decided to try the el Diablo burger which was definitely spicy. I put the salsa verde on the side and ended up not having it as it was yummy but felt salsa didn't match their burger vibe. We all shared the truffle parm fries which were yummy but definitely lighter on the Parmesan and truffle flavor. It was quite a large serving as well so we didn't end up finishing them. I also tried the lavender cocktail which was pretty strong and not sweet but wasn't bad. Service was fast for 8pm on a Friday night. The line didn't take too long but only downside was the only tables left were outside so they're definitely still busy all the time.
