I came to this restaurant for the first time last week late on a Friday night. I was meeting my boyfriend for a late dinner and we wanted something quick and open late. This was conveniently located in the Tustin Marketplace and they were fortunately open until 11pm. Once we selected this restaurant, I downloaded their mobile app to see if they had a Rewards program, and was immediately granted a "Free French Fry" coupon. When I entered the restaurant, it was quite busy for 9pm on a Friday. I was immediately greeted by a very kind and helpful cashier (didn't catch her name but she had dark brown hair and glasses), who was very patient with me as I read the menu. She kindly notified me that I could use the free fry coupon on any of their availability options. I ordered the Magic Shroom burger, sweet potato fries, and a Oreo milkshake. The cashier then provided me with the number of the two top booth that she selected for us. At HopDoddy, the tables are assigned to the customer, even though it's a counter service restaurant. I actually preferred this method since it took the guess work out of me trying to find a suitable table :) Our food was brought out quickly with the fries being served first. They came with ketchup and an aioli sauce and I requested mustard on side. The fries were fresh and a generous portion. A great value considering they were free with the app coupon! The burger arrived, and I sadly have to admit that we were a bit disappointed. The flavor and temperature of the burger were good, but it was small compared the other restaurants serving $15 dollar burgers. The pesto sauce was the highlight of the dish. The Oreo milkshake is prepared with a custard base as compared to traditional ice cream. It was fine, but I wouldn't order it again. I prefer standard milkshakes as compared to a custard base. Overall, the staff members were friendly and our food was served quickly. The restaurant was clean and had the added benefit of being open late and being located in a central area of Tustin. That being said, the food was not memorable and I most likely wouldn't return on the basis of taste and satiety from the meal. I would return for a quick late night bite if I wanted to sit down in a restaurant instead of surrendering to the long drive thru line of a nearby, very popular fast food burger establishment (cough cough In-n-Out). read more

I live two blocks away and have been going here since it opened. My wife and I over the years have taken friends and family here and always enjoyed the casual atmosphere, great food and tasty beer selection. We're more into the Thunderbird (chicken) and at one time served The Continental being turkey. For some reason on several occasions my wife and I have been asked for our drivers license to verify age in the purchase of alcohol. We're grandparents and the age is obvious. At first it was a chuckle and viewed as a novelty and now it's become an annoyance so our business goes elsewhere in the market place. I can only think that an employee in the past made a bad decision so now all have to pay the price. As a business they certainly have the right to ask for id but they could also use some common sense in their decision making..... read more

This is a very nice burger place. It's another of these 50/50 fast food restaurants ... You order at the counter like fast food but it's brought to you like a sit-down restaurant. My wife and I had both versions of the wagyu burger, and they were both very good. I haven't had a lot of wagyu burgers so I can't really compare with others ... I like the fact they have both styles of burgers -- the thick tavern-style as well as the thin diner-style. I would have liked my Cadillac burger cooked as like more like medium with a little pink earth l rather than well done, but because of the quality of the meat it was still pretty juicy. You can see from the picture that the side of fries is very generous. And this was the small! I do also wish they had onion rings as an option for sides, though. First time trying Hopdoddy, a burger spot that has been recommended several times, and it did not disappoint! It was busy on a Saturday around lunchtime, but the line moved fairly quickly. We ordered the Cadillac wagyu, goodnight/good cause burger, parmesan truffle fries, and the traditional hand-cut fries. The burgers were delicious and packed with flavor, and the fries are a shareable size. Everything came out fairly quickly, even though they were busy with a lunch rush. It was honestly pretty good, I didn't expect the beef quality to be high and the macaroni and bacon really blended well with the buns. This is a follow-up to a prior review and I'm placing it because it appears things have changed dramatically. This visit was today at lunch on April 4th. Food quality is the same for burgers but after delivering the wrong fries, they delivered the basket of sweet potato fries and these were burned. I mean they were black around the edges. The service quality was friendly and helpful at the counter but when they delivered two items that were wrong and needed to be replaced, we started to see that our order wasn't getting in and out of the kitchen as written. But the worst issue today, the one that made it very difficult to enjoy everything else, was the temperature...it was 92 degrees outside, and 80 degrees inside with all the doors open. Was the A/C broken or off? nobody said. The the music was loud and obnoxious...perhaps the music was a side-effect of the temperature...hard to say. The overall vibe of the place is relaxed and welcoming, which made it easy to enjoy our time together. A great spot for burgers in the Irvine/Tustin area. There's a good amount of parking, but the lot can get crowded on weekends. They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. You order at the register and are assigned a table after ordering. Their system works really well and makes it easier for all customers. The tables aren't the most clean, but they're decent. The food comes out with standard timing. We ordered the burger as medium rare but it came out as well done as with several others that we were dining with. My favorite item is the Thunderbird. It's packed with flavor and is much more filling than it appears. The fries come in a generous portion that's great for sharing. They also have a wide variety of drink options, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. Their menu is creative and there are some burger combinations that you can't find in other restaurants. I want to give Hopdoddy five stars so bad, but man the chefs here do not know how to cook a burger medium rare. There was absolutely no pink color in my burger and it was basically medium well. Which is really a shame because the efficiency and friendliness of their service combined with their clean interiors makes for a great restaurant. Top 3 best burger spots in OC. Ariel makes the BEST spicy pineapple margarita. The wagu smash is our favorite. It's got a little kick so I recommend no peppers if you don't like spice. I ask for light. 10/10 Honey sage fries are the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. My only tweak would be two sauces because the it's a ton of friend and a tiny sauce. Noise levels are around a medium, and it's super fun during popular games. Hopdoddy otherwise mispronounced by moi to hop daddy, fits the clientele for Snooze next door. The ordering process is fine then they give you a number and now you go find your table with that number. Instead of the normal number stick on the table and southwest airline seating arrangements. There's a giant roll of brown paper towel by every table for your sticky pleasure. The table tops have the sheen of a previous good time yet the burgers are no match for places like The Stand. Behind the ordering counter stashes a little vegetarian/vegan menu, like a saucy little secret. Anyway, the best thing on the table were the sweet potato fries. We came here for an after work meetup. There is a happy hour deal that some of us came just in time to take advantage of. Most of us got drinks and a burger. I will say that goblet sized drinks are a good size! We got a few rounds. Beer selection is good but could be better. The burger I got, I did not like. That's not to say this place is bad because they have many choices for burgers so I'll try another burger flavor whenever it is I come back. I got some fries and it was enough for everyone to share. Been going to hopdoddy since they opened up many many years ago and can say it's still my favorite burger and fry joint around. While I'm not often in Irvine, I come back to this restaurant every once in a while for the incredible truffle Parmesan fries and burgers. The prices have gotten a bit steep compared to what they used to be, but i recognize the fries are intended to be shared with others, hence them costing almost $10 for one bowl. I do wish they offered smaller portions of the truffle parm fries as it ends up being $20 to get fries and a burger if you want anything basic the basic salted fry. I used to get the classic burger, which is always perfectly cooked and seasoned but this time around I decided to try the el Diablo burger which was definitely spicy. I put the salsa verde on the side and ended up not having it as it was yummy but felt salsa didn't match their burger vibe. We all shared the truffle parm fries which were yummy but definitely lighter on the Parmesan and truffle flavor. It was quite a large serving as well so we didn't end up finishing them. I also tried the lavender cocktail which was pretty strong and not sweet but wasn't bad. Service was fast for 8pm on a Friday night. The line didn't take too long but only downside was the only tables left were outside so they're definitely still busy all the time. Omg that burger was savory! So question is, was I just that hungry or did they really perfect burgers? I argue the latter. Nice, vibrant atmosphere with TVs playing sports games in the background. You can sit at the bar and be served fairly quickly, or suffer in the long lines around lunchtime. Ironically, this location is next to In-n-Out, which had an even longer line. It's as if it were burger row. Hands down, some of the best burgers I've had (been to other locations). The service is good and the staffs' t-shirts are witty. This is definitely the place for a gourmet high-end burger. It's interesting that it is located right next to another very famous locally known Berger place who's drive-through often extends to the entrance of Hopdoddy, but it really is a different experience due to the higher and burgers, fries, shakes and beverage offerings. You have to be really hungry to visit here and often it is a good idea to split a meal if you aren't someone who wants to down a huge burger with lots of add-ons. It's always good to share more than one menu items so you can try any of the great offerings. I am more of the traditional shake person so well I don't really care for their Fancy shakes. If you like something a little different than the typical shakes from other food places you will be very pleased here I have to say that the fries here are always excellent and go very well with the great variety of burgers. read more

Double Bacon Jam (6/10) - Bacon was a little bit gritty, and it had a mildly strange texture to it. - I thought it would be sweeter, but it ended up being a pretty standard burger. The bacon was not particularly intense, and it felt a little subpar at the end for a $10 burger. Goodnight/Good Cause (8/10) - This one was DELICIOUS! NOT TOO SPICY! At first I thought it would be a spicy jalapeno burger that is a little painful to eat, but it was actually good with a tiny hint of spice - They use this special mayo, that really shined. This was not just an average tasting burger, but was much much better than the Double Bacon Jam. - Would get this one again! Parmesan Truffle Fries (8/10) - Given in a huge mixing bowl! Regular size of fries was basically the same as the side size of fries - seemed like a rip off. It looked like they put the regular size into a larger bowl, but it appeared to be the same amount compared to the side fries despite being over twice the price of the side fries. That was already quite disappointing, so I was even more bummed when I didn't love the parmesan truffle fries swimming in the parmesan truffle topping. I don't remember them being so excessive and overwhelming from the last time I was here, maybe my palate has changed since then? Anyways, it was so overpowering that I had to tap off the topping/seasoning every time I wanted to eat the fries. They went overboard when they didn't need to, especially with strong flavors like parmesan and truffle combined. I had the same issue with the burger, where the sauce was just so strong and in excess that it 1) overpowered the burger and 2) made the burger soggy real quick and therefore very messy to eat. Also, our burgers (Cadillac Wagyu) were quite petite in size, which was surprising for the high prices (~$17 each) that came with them. I understand that it's for the wagyu part and bougie add-ins, but I realized that Hopdoddy is not a budget-friendly burger place, even though it's fast casual dining that offers fast food. For such pricey items and paying around $60 for a meal for two, you'd want them to taste amazing or at least be decent portions. When I first visited a long time ago, I was wowed. The burgers and fries impressed me that time, both in portion and taste, so I'm a little disappointed at how things seemed to have changed since then. I really enjoyed my burger I thought it was cooked well and the flavor was good. The fries were good but a bit too salty especially paired with the sauce provided and the BBQ sauce. Paper towel rolls are at each table which definitely came in handy since the burger was quite saucey. All in all it was pretty good.
