This review is 4 years overdue but you know someone's good if you're still getting your hair done by them 4 years later! If you want decent highlights, you can go a lot of places. If you want people to yell compliments about your hair out of car windows, stop you on the street, and tell you that you've convinced them crazy colors can look good, you need to go to Heather (and get a fun color)! There are so many great things to say about her and Sarah, this is gonna be a long one. You might want to plan to arrive a little early in case you need to park a bit further away, but honestly I've almost never had a problem finding a spot within a block. There's a cute coffee shop next door where you can grab a snack and a drink for if you have a longer appointment. Oh and the dogs here are fantastic so let's just get that out of the way (RIP, sweet Patsy and Frankie). Now hair stuff! Backstory: 4 years ago I walked in with untouched, light brunette hair and basically asked for her to take me platinum blonde in one sitting so I could have lavender hair. I now know that is absolutely impossible for me and Heather was the first hairdresser to be honest about having realistic hair goals instead of taking my money, damaging my hair, and giving me something less than what I wanted. If you're making a serious investment in your hair, why not protect it? I'm a nerd so she explained everything to me in a scientific way that made perfect sense, even though hair stuff has always been so confusing to me. No hairdresser I've had before has done that to such an extent so I really appreciated that she wasn't annoyed by all my questions. My favorite thing about Heather is she does NOT compromise on quality. Like, I can guarantee this poor woman and Sarah have spent more time working on my hair than hanging out with some of their friends because Heather is a perfectionist in the best way possible. How many hairdressers do you know who will run around town for you searching for hair color because your freakish hair eats kitchen tupperware amounts of color? Or spend 2 days in a row applying 27 bowls of bleach to your head? That's dedication. I could say so much more about Heather but I think the pictures will speak for themselves :) We've tried a lot of purple over the years and I've had so much fun with every unique look Heather came up with. It's pretty cool to have someone's art on your head and if you let Heather do her thing, you'll probably end up with some of the best hair color of your life. Just got my hair done at Knstruct for the first time. Wow! I had an amazing experience! First of all, the salon itself is so cute! I love the decor. Second of all, Heather and Sara are so kind and welcoming. They offered me water and wine and always asked if I needed anything and if I was comfortable. Heather did a balayage on me and it turned out so beautifully that I'm still speechless! I still can't believe how amazing it turned out. Sara gave me a nice head massage when she washed my hair and I started falling asleep because her hair wash was so relaxing! Heather Hall has been doing my hair for 10 years now! She is the absolute best hair stylist and friend. I trust her 100% to make decisions about how to reach my goals for each look and color I'd like to achieve on any occasion. Heather has helped me achieve a variety of beautiful blondes, my current favorite being the frosty look! Heather also did my hair for my wedding and it looked absolutely incredible all day and all night. I can't recommend Heather and Knstruct Artistry enough! You'll feel right at home. I get Brazilian Blowouts about every 4-5 months and it has improved the quality of my hair tremendously! Great news!!! My favorite hairstylist Lisandra decided Knstruct was the perfect fit! I enjoy my time getting my hair done playing w the doggies now! Stop in and see her soon! Really enjoyed my time here at Knstruct. My regular hair girl was doing a trial run there and I was lucky enough to be her model. Not only were the girls, one being the owner, friendly as could be but, they had their dogs there!!!!! Seriously, do I need more of a reason to love a business, not in my mind I don't! Not only is it on a quiet edge of the East Village but, it's really easy parking. I looked for less than 5 mins and was a half of a block away. Super easy metered parking, mostly paid electronically and very contemporary vibe. Even the surrounding businesses looked pretty cool and after working right around the corner after moving to San Diego I can vouch there are some nice little eateries and shops close by. I have been coloring my hair for about 20 years... yeah, I know, don't judge my old age lol. I think when I say that this place, and Heather Hall, are THEE BEST for hair, I know what I'm talking about! My hair was jet black for years, and while it worked for a long time, I always tried to go lighter to only be left with broken ends and not the real luxurious gold brown I wanted. Honestly, it always turned out gross and brassy when I tried. So I'd go back to black... maybe that's where that saying came from? Anyway, by the grace of the hair gods I found Heather (who cares how, it's an even longer story than this review) and she changed my life!!!! My hair type is pretty difficult to work with (my hair is super thick and there's a ton of it, plus it grows insanely fast) and I've spent the better part of my life looking for a stylist that can make it look good, while also being maintainable. Had a GREAT experience here. I needed a color correction and a friend said to ask Heather from Knstruct for advice. I called for a few questions and ended up scheduling an appointment for balayage and was there for a few hours during the appointment. They ordered Postmates and offered wine. She is a stylist as well as a barber and I intend to get my bf in to see her in the near future! I stopped my Knstruct about a week ago to get my hair done by the talented Lisandra and was pleasantly surprised my the cozy and welcoming atmosphere of this salon. I had no idea that this gem was nestled into the east village! After being greeted by the salon dogs and doling out plentiful ear and belly scratches I had Lisandra cut and style my hair. We took off a healthy few inches and she was very communicative of what the new length would be. I always appreciate that she cuts exactly the amount that we agree on before starting, as I have had stylists in the past take off a surprising amount more than I wanted (and that's never a good surprise). It's important to have a stylist you can trust. I can't say enough wonderful things about Lisandra or recommend her enough! As a fellow hairstylist, when I left the area I referred all of my female clients to her. I am so happy I found this salon. Lindsey did a phenomenal job! I am just visiting SD and I needed to get my hair toned. I got my hair done by someone new last week and it came out terribly. Mainly because it was toned improperly and was very yellow. I pretty much left that appointment in tears. But Lindsey turned it all around! Andrea M. did a fantastic job with my haircut (which I know wasn't easy because of my curly hair). She gives the most AMAZING scalp massages while shampooing your hair!
