I always like to give a new place a try for more than 6 months before giving a review. With that being said, I love coming to this Salon because of Alan. He's amazing and he's the only one that can control my full thick hair in San Diego. He's super talented and his customer service is 10/10. The only issue with this Salon, is the location. It's not in the best area and lately every time I've gone, there's a group of guys always smoking cannabis, drinking out front and fighting. I understand Cannabis is legal in California but as a girl and having to walk past a group of 4-5 guys who are high/drunk just to get my hair done doesn't necessarily make me feel safe. The last time I got my hair done, it took over 8 hours since Alan is actually allergic to cannabis and had to take multiple breaks. He mentioned that the walls are pretty thin and the canabis smell/ smoke can come through pretty easily and affect his work. Which I could actually smell every time I go inside. I truly feel so sad for Alan and Beautiful You Sis Salon as their business is being affected. This wasn't an issue before and like I've said, I've been coming here since early this year. I hope they can get this figured out before they start losing customers as most of us are women. I have an appointment coming up and will update my post in case I see a change. read more

I moved back to my hometown San Diego this month and I needed to get my hair done so I found this salon. I went with Alan he did an amazing job with my hair loved it! I will go back with Alan when I need another service. The one thing I am concerned about was the barbershop next door it smelled so much of marijuana and it was going through the vents of the salon since I am 12 weeks pregnant I don't want the smell of the substances to affect my baby since I am trying to have a healthy pregnancy. I went once to a salon when I was younger to have a perm done from curly to straight, however the stylist did not know what she was doing, completely messed up my hair and I had never gone back to a salon ever to have my hair touched by anyone. I've been contemplating for over a month whether or not to Yelp my experience here. I am a small business owner, a Mom and I'm college educated... and know that Yelp is truly a way of weeding out the good and the bad or not so good but not so bad. My experience with Shanell started off exciting and anxious and hopeful that FINALLY I could have my hair back. She had amazing reviews and I was sure I had chosen the right person for the job. I had last been to David Martinez at Windings Hair Salon exactly a year ago and he ruined my hair with a horrible Brazilian Blow out. I had long thick course hair. It is naturally curly and had been chemically straightened and I have been horrified to do anything to it for over a year. Now it was time to get the curly spiral perm and the curl I loved back. Shanell had me come in for a consultation and I explained what I had gone through completely a year ago and that I was coming to her for help to bring me back my curl. My hair was dry and shorter than I wanted but still straight and dead ends from the Blow Out chemicals or whatever David Martinez did to my hair. Other than that I home colored my hair roots with Loreal Superior Preference Color for my popping up grays. I have never lighted my hair but the lightened color was from the sun, as I work out in the fields everyday and swim. To get to the point. I even brought 2 pictures of exactly the kind of curly spiral perm I wanted. There was no miscommunication. I left there wet but pretty sure my hair was NOT spiral. Sure enough. IT wasn't. I turned into a dry dread mess over the next 2 days. I was told not to wash and I didn't. Then on the third day, when I did. It was not even CLOSE to a spiral perm. It was wavy and much drier than it was before I went in and so frizzy that I knew... this was a disaster. Shanell has been empathetic and sincerely offered to fix it but I dont think that PERMS are her expertise. She offered to do ANOTHER one to fix the one she just did. My hair was so brittle that who knows what that might have done. But worse... my hair is hardly even wavy, NOT ONE SPIRAL CURL at all and in many places still straight sticking out. Shanelle insists that my past salons have been the cause by NOT completely telling me what they may have put in my hair causing the mess that I have now. I dont know if thats the case here as I have been but to ONE salon, David Martinez which we even called from her salon together to talk to him about what was put in my hair a year ago. Bottom line, the only chemical EVER put in my hair was a year ago. I have watched over 20 YOU TUBE videos and have seen that perhaps even the rollers were possible even put in the wrong direction and for a spiral perm they should have been placed in up and down, not across. I've seen that spiral perms take up and down sections and more rods that she used. I question why my hair curls beautifully with a hot iron but not at all after her perm. Maybe that's wrong but now I have even shorter hair because I let her cut of the dead ends when I went back to ask her to fix it. I'm very unhappy, I have even shorter hair now that I have to curl and if I dont spend an hour or two drying and curling my hair everyday... I look like a homeless vagabond AGAIN! Shanell, I believe you are an amazing person and that you DO go out of your way to do things your best I just dont thing perms are your thing. If so, and can fix this, then here I am to say, I will happily tell the world and show the world that you can and did, but this mess in my hair is NOT right for the $150 I spent and I'm hoping you do whatever it needs to fix it. I WANT my hair to look good again... or at least what I paid for... a spiral perm, not a dry dread mess. read more

I love everything about this salon. Shanell is a true professional and her education and passion shows. I've always believed to be proficient in any skill you should be able to teach it. She's been an educator in her field having taught for years at Paul Mitchell and maintains a strong and dynamic knowledge. Plus, what a totally sweet haircut every time! I hate to give her 2 stars because shes so nice and passionate, but my experience was definitely undesirable. I went in for a touch up balayage/lightening my hair and after spending $300 I still wasnt happy with it. It must have been miscommunication or understanding, but I was quoted 120, then was charged $220 and tip. I figured if i loved it, it would be okay. But i hated it. I specifically said I didnt want orange or yellow tones, and its what I got. I messaged her asking for her to fix it and she kindly agreed. She had Ally (who was super sweet) "fix" it with a toner, after two tries, we got something better. I still got charged for the product, which baffled me. It wasn't Ally's fault so of course I tipped her too. Anywho it was better, but not what I wanted for my photoshoot. I finally had to go to someone else to fix it and now I love it. Again, Shanell is very nice and talented, but if youre looking for a certain blonde, just make sure she can do it for you, and get the correct prices! read more

I have mixed feelings and I have contemplated writing my review. This was the very first time I've gotten tape-in extensions. That being said, I'm unsure what other women experience as far as the feel and placement of the actual hair. I wrote Shanell requesting a consult and she called me and gave me great information and was warm and sweet. Our consult was quick and to the point. She told me where to get the tape-ins and to get "medium brown". So I went off to Sallys where I was clueless on color matching and they don't let you remove the hair to really match it. The color I got was lighter than my hair, but if I went one up it was too dark. I didn't want to go off brand of what she told me so I purchased it. Arriving at the salon it was relaxing and inviting. Cool music that I enjoy and friendly conversation. Shanell is super sweet and very easy going. She asked me if I often wear my hair up and I replied, "Yes, sometimes." and I guess that translated to "No." because the placement is very low to wear I can hardly put it up without it either showing at the bottom or by my ears. I did a lot of research before getting tape ins and most everyone said DO NOT GET IT TOO CLOSE TO FACE....well it's way too close to my face and ears to where I can't even tuck my hair behind my ear. Which drives me insane. And I can't really put my hair up either. Also, I don't know if it's the quality of the hair or what but after washing it as little as possible (as instructed) it looks almost synthetic and oily. For what I paid for this human hair it should wash itself. When it was all done, it looked nice....was shorter than I wanted and it was blended quite terribly. Literally I can't wear my hair down without curling the shit out of it because you can absolutely 110% tell I'm wearing fake hair because NONE OF IT BLENDS. And with it being lighter it's just horribly obvious. Well, I can't wear it down an I can't wear it up and be happy, so I guess I have to live with it. My best friend got tape ins the same day by another salon and it was FLAWLESS. Absolutely stunning. The quality was amazing and the blending was so well done. I respect her and her career, but if I ever ever ever decide to pay hundreds of dollars on my hair again, it won't be here. :( read more

Shanell and Alli are both miracle workers and do everything well! I found Beautiful You from Yelp while looking for a new stylist to help me with extensions. I wanted to give my hair more volume as well as use the length to cover up an undercut that wasn't quite grown out enough to be put in a pony tail. Shanell was so quick to answer my email and we scheduled a consultation that week, she ordered the extensions for me and within The week I was back to get them in. She matched my color perfectly and gave me the shape and body I was craving! When i was ready, it was the easiest thing to go back and get them re-placed. When I was finally tired of the length and color, Alli was able to give me the purple I wanted exactly! I also will never complain about the price and will/have recommended them to everyone I know. I moved from FL to CA a little over 6 months ago and I am the happiest that I was able to find MY new stylist so quickly.
