This restaurant is the most inaccurately rated restaurant I have ever reviewed. Its current rating is completely inaccurate and in fact you should eat here, its very, very, good. As I understand it is under new management and ownership but is being held down by old ratings. Please only pay attention to the new ratings. My experience started with the fact the place is very cute, quiet, romantic, and quaint. I really like the lights and the local postcards on the walls establishing a sense of place. I had the cheese steak which had some unique cheeses and other ingredients including horseradish aioli and peppers. It was a very tasty new take on a classic. Could use a bit more aioli and seasoning. But it was very good and the portion was huge. My wife had the soup of the day and enjoyed it. we also had a Ceasar salad.. and that is what it is. I LOVE them but you can't really rate such a standard. The service was amazing and the waitress and all other staff were completely on point. The food came out quick, and if I am in town again I WILL eat here again. I would love to try some of the dinner entrees. read more

Another wonderful meal, arrived at 6pm waited 10 minutes and was seated and greeted and Maddie was our waitress, awesome service she is great. The seafood bisque was very good. We had boom boom chicken wrap and a smothered chicken sandwich. Both wonderful and the entire meal was great. read more

We've been going to Knute's just about every Thursday evening for months. Thursday is Burger Night featuring a few burgers that come with fries for just $6. A couple more premium burgers are $7.50. Knute's has a great selection of beer on tap. More than you're basic Coors, Miller, or Bud. You can try microbrews from around the country. Sometimes you'll get lucky enough to be there on pint night where you get to keep a glass of their feature brewery! The service has always been great. Servers are getting to know us well and recognize us when we come in. Even when they're slammed busy we get prompt attention with a friendly demeanor. This place is located in a college town, so you will see college students at any given time. However, you'll also see couples, families, and even kids. It's never gotten rowdy. The food is pretty tasty. You can get a burger cooked well-done and it's tender and juicy. Fries are really good. They offer other menu items, but we've always gotten burgers. I did have a Reuben a couple of times that was awesome. Regular menu items are a bit pricey I think, and the menu isn't overly large. However, we go for burger day on Thursdays. Our burgers always come out hot and fresh. Other peoples' meals always look tasty, too. Knute's has a deck and an upstairs area for larger groups. They'll also feature entertainment on weekends. Shippensburg doesn't have much to offer so I guess I can't complain too much haha. Service definitely a mixed bag....$1 rum and coke nights were always big hit with my group back at college. Wing night on Wednesday was another hit for us to get together. Lots of varieties and the wings quality has went up and down through the years. Last I left back in Dec 2010, wings were decent. Prices are low to mid range. You can add to your bill really quickly if you start adding sides, celery, and pitchers of beer. They have beer pong and some of my friends liked coming here before going to Wibs. Nothing special, but with no competition hardly in Ship, you don't have many other places to go. read more

Ship, of course, has a lot of "transient" traffic, with parents in to see their kids at SU. If you're looking for some good food that is not going to break the bank, here you go. I found it interesting that another reviewer said this bar caters primarily to the college crowd. I've always thought that it's very much a townie bar. But inasmuch as I think Shippensburg is one of the friendliest towns I've ever been in, that is no real problem. There's always somebody to talk to, and it's a very sports-sharp crowd, which is good since that's what is on some 10 TVs surrounding the horseshoe-shaped bar. The servers and bartenders treated everybody well when I've stopped in ... and I do whenever I get back to town. There appears to be 10-15 beers on tap in rotation. They had Angry Orchard the past few times, which I love. What really caught my notice in my recent visit, though, was the food. I had one of Knute's seven types of burgers, the Grilled Cheese Burger ($9.99). It's a half-pound Angus burger delivered on Texas toast with American and red onions. It was outstanding. Maybe it's always been and I didn't notice it, but this was REALLY good. The burger was made to order -- they asked -- and was quality meat. They even had a high-end ketchup on the side, something more than the basic Heinz, etc. As a side, I ordered the Mac and Cheese ($2.50 as a side, $4.99 as an entree). This was even better, the best I've had in quite a while. Perfectly cooked pasta; a thick, stringy cheese throughout; and, it was browned just right. I can't recommend it enough. Knute's actually really surprised me. I just moved into town not to long ago and my goal was to try every restaurant in walking distance. This was the third restaurant I tried and quickly became my favorite. The food and atmosphere almost reminds me of a ruby Tuesday. The food is above average (in my opinion) or even above par for what else you find in town. They also have a deck which is a nice place to just kick back. There was nothing really special about the service but everyone was really friendly. Overall I recommend this place to everyone and I really enjoy my time and money spent there. read more

2nd time I have gone in there for lunch- 2nd time my order has been wrong and the service has been horrible. This time, I ordered a salad and got a sandwich- our glasses were never refilled, and we had to wait over 25 minutes for a lunch order in a place that had two other tables with customers and servers standing around. I picked up the sandwhich I had to shovel in as I was already at the end of my lunch break, and all the contents slide out. I ended up eating it with a fork after putting it back together 3 times. Not worth $9 for a sandwich that wasn't notable. My husband was unhappy when the server started heading down the path of "why didn't you know when I asked if you wanted chips?" She quickly changed the subject but we were unimpressed. We won't be going back. read more

Warning to college students and alumni: this is a total townie bar - I highly recommend staying away from this place... In my opinion, the patrons are not friendly and can be threatening to non-locals like alumni, etc.... I was hoping, as SU alumnus, that Knute's would be the replacement for long closed Gingerbread Man- was I wrong! Example: From my experience, the crowd at Knute's is aggressively homophobic and redneck like. The servers and female bartender on duty when I visited were very nice and professional when I went in last Friday for a drink at the bar. I was most unwelcome by the dozen or so local patrons drinking at the bar which happened within minutes of sitting down at the bar. It's obvious when an entire group turns on an individual- maybe some of you have had this happen to you- it's a very unpleasant experience. I ordered a beer and some wings, minding my own business, and within the time that it took to get my wings, the people sitting to the side of me moved away as if I was diseased- making it very obvious that they didn't want to sit next to me (two couples in their sixties- dirty stares and awkwardness) and one guy made an extremely loud and homophobic (very crude and graphic) joke to the ENTIRE bar which everyone, except the bartender, laughed at. I was dressed normally - polo, jeans, etc. not calling any attention to myself, and yet I feel that I was being totally being harassed. From my observations other comments were made by different patrons as well under their breath. I left immediately, taking my wings to go, because I truly believed that it was potentially unsafe for me to stay there any longer, due to the patrons. I'm a big guy, too, and can defend myself, but I felt potentially threatened. It was a very embarrassing experience and shameful reflection of the locals in Shippensburg. To be clear, I wasn't embarrassed for myself, I was embarrassed for the other customers as it made them look like the hick stereotype that many in the town I would imagine try to fight. I look down on those who participated but take great pleasure in knowing that my degree and education allow me the civility to not act this way toward strangers. If they are this way at 1:30pm on a Friday, imagine how they are at night drunk, etc. Again, in my opinion, college students and alumni stay away from this place! In my opinion, it's trouble waiting to happen! The bartender should be commended as she had the wherewithal to lightly scold them for the joke as it was obvious that it was a hateful and targeted comment. I was staying in Shippensburg for the Corvettes at Carlisle show in August 2013 at the Shippen Place Hotel. I ventured across the street to Knutes and was immediately impressed with the décor. I took a seat at the bar and was greeted by a most personable young man, I believe his name was Mike. I got a really cold Bud Lite and indulged in a nice conversation with Mike when he had time, his skills behind the bar were obvious. As the evening wound down I met and joked a little with the staff and have never felt more welcome. This place was clean and well decorated and well ran, I will return next year and would recommend the pub and eatery to anyone. I can be critical at times but nothing but kudos for Knutes. read more

I saw this place many times when passing by and wanted to try it. So when another, local pub & eatery had over an hour wait time, our party of 5 decided to try Knute's. We were met with a very friendly hostess and were seated quickly in a near empty pub. The waiter was quick to take our drink and food order and our server delivered our meals in a very reasonable amount of time. Our meals were very good - the wings are nice sized with very tasty sauces. The lettuce cups, pulled pork BBQ and fries were all very good and nicely portioned for the price. Knute's has a nice variety of beers from domestic to imports to crafts, you're bound to find something you like. But, thankfully our meals were served before the post-rush of Family Day attendees from the nearby University. As seats filled, service, as one would expect, slowed. However, in our case, the hostess, waiter, and server all forgot to do the obligatory "how's everything" check on the table. A 2nd round of drinks was impossible to get. We had to get the attention of a waitress passing by to request a 2nd round of drinks, which then took our waiter almost 5 minutes to come over to take the drink order, which finally arrived when we done eating and ready to leave. While I understand things get busy, the staff, while friendly, needs to be able to handle these busy times better. The food and atmosphere were very good. Good enough to warrant 3 stars and a return visit, which will give me the opportunity to see if this is the "normal" service one can expect or if they were just having an off day. read more

Many of the reviews I think are outdated. We were at Knutes a few years ago and were not all that impressed, however our recent visit was great! It isn't a fine dinning restuarant so if that's what you are looking for this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for casual, good food, and good service I highly recommend it! They seem to have a lot of decent beers on tap, and we seriously could have eaten 3 plates of the calamari! It isn't that frozen crap, and it was done perfectly! This is a good restaurant and bar. The service is actually very slow. This can be annoying especially on wing nights and cheap burger nights. However, the burgers are awesome. The beer selection is good enough and the prices are very good. Dollar rum and coke night is great time to chill and meet people, but the amount of rum lacks, but the price is right. Chips and salsa here will surprise you, it's very good. This is one of my favorite places to just go and grab a drink and watch a game and not smell like I was at a bar all night. read more

Knutes is my personal favorite in shippensbug. Nothing is great, but overall, they have the best package in town. The menu selection is basic and predictable. The food is ok. The servers are friendly. I enjoy the atmosphere the best. It is a clean, bright space with many flat screen tvs and a coin op digital juke box that plays music throughout. Knutes is obviously working hard to be a "real" chain-like restaurant. I'm happy to have Knutes in Shippensburg. This place has really stepped up its game over the last year. The grilled meatloaf is one of the best things I've ever eaten. The new menu retains the sports bar staples of wings and burgers while adding more sophisticated dishes you might find for double the price at a place like The Copper Kettle. I also highly recommend the Southwest tilapia, honey chipotle wings, and Asian slaw. The soups are always incredible; particularly the chicken tortilla soup. If you haven't eaten here in a while, definitely check out what the new chef and new menu have to offer. It's become my favorite place to eat and drink in Shippensburg. read more

Always seem to get good food when we go to Knutes. I'd love to see the menu get a revamp as it seemed to never really change over the years. The bar is usually filled with some curious town drunks. Oh Knute's What to say... I have been there multiple times. Every time worse than the last. A few years ago was absolutely the peak of this place. They're specials were new and exciting each week, there food was delivered quickly, the service was friendly. Now, utterly horrible. The specials are the same old worn out dishes. I am fairly centain the "chef" (if you can call someone who I usually see watching television on the leather couches that) just has about 6 dishes that gets rotated in and out of the weekend specials. Even those, are just mediocre at best. I used to enjoy taking dates there, or old college buddies, however now I believe I'll be taking people to the University Grille or the new Arooga's. Even eating at reisner dining hall on campus was better than what Knutes has become. Get rid of the new chef, bring back the old waitresses (I believe her name was Cassy, and she was the best!), and get rid of that red head Sarah they call a general manager, I have never liked her demeaning attitude she has when I hear her shouting at the staff. read more

I have been to Knute's a dozen or so times in the last year. Service is average, food OK. Last night was I assume an exception. First, the wrong meal was delivered, pop corn shrimp instead of Coconut shrimp. (neither were good) After the correct meal was delivered, it had so much salt on it that it was inedible. I hate this place more than anywhere. If it wasn't for the fact that there aren't any better places in ship, it'd be a no star. The servers here are mediocre but the turnover rate seems incredibly high. In every instance that I've been here, the management has sucked incredibly. There is an upcharge on everything from honey mustard to ranch. The specials are lack luster and the food isn't anything special. The place is worth a try if you are in Ship and have no where else to go - otherwise try University Grill or McDonalds. read more

My wife and I just went there and there was no one at all out on the floor. No sign even saying whether we should seat ourselves or not. There was no one at the bar even. The place was apparently open, but there were no employees anywhere. After about five minutes of no one coming out of the kitchen, we just left. It was about 2:30 p.m. which I know wasn't a busy time, but we've been there before at around that time and they had at least one employee out. read more

My meal was good (salad) but the salmon wasn't hot. Service was different. No glass with a bottle of beer, had to ask. Wouldn't it have been smarter to bring it along, just in case it was wanted? No napkins except with wrapped silverware. My companion had ribs and had to ask for them and then for handwipes. But the most distressing thing was the lack of heat. In fact, the vent near my booth was blowing "cold" air. Eating with coat and scarf not my idea of fun. Doubt I'll make the effort to go back. read more

I just got back from going to dinner with my boyfriend. We looked up specials on Knutes website beforehand. We saw it said dollar drafts and rails throughout the week during their happy hour specials. We also saw how it said tito's vodka drinks were $3. We went and he ordered two beers and they were each a dollar. We also ordered a vodka cranberry and once we got the bill it was $4. We ordered a few rum and cokes and those were each $4. When we asked the waitress about it and about what they're website said, she shrugged and said "oh that website hasn't been updated in a while." My boyfriend also told the waitress how he didn't like the one beer he tried (and didn't even finish) and still charged him. She continued to print out a copy of their website to show us as if we didn't read it online ourselves. Overall we were really disappointed in the service. Also the vodka cranberry was more vodka and ice than vodka and cranberry. We will never go back and we have been telling our friends to do the same. read more
