Luggage tags from all of the hotels we stayed at during the Japan Spring Odyssey Tour 2019...11 nights at 8 hotels

Traveling with a group to Japan... Kobayashi Travel Service has a great reputation in Hawaii. My friend and I made reservations for the 2019 Spring Tokaido Odyssey Tour and had no regrets. For 13 days and 11 nights, $4995 sounded expensive, but after I compared the price with other companies, the cost per day was less than the competition. Our fee included an orientation lunch at a Japanese restaurant in Honolulu, round trip tickets on Japan Airlines, quality hotel rooms at 8 different cities, daily buffet breakfast, 8 dinners (most of them were buffets), a boxed lunch on the Bullet Train, a ticket for the Bullet Train, all admission fees to every attraction, a ticket for a ferry ride to Miyajima Island, a boat cruise on Lake Ashino-ko, a sturdy canvas tote bag, a handmade pompom (to label our suitcases), and great advice! Our escort from Kobayashi Travel was Sharon. She has been with the company for many years and was able to answer all of our questions. She brought packing tape, scissors, and string for us to use for our box to bring home. They know that we are allowed only one check in bag going to Japan and we can bring back two check ins. We obtained boxes from our hotel and charged the boxes to Kobayashi Travel! Sharon also made peanut butter snacks for us to eat on the bus! The local guide that Kobayashi Travel hired was Yuki. Yuki was very knowledgeable, polite, organized, and prepared! She entertained us on the bus rides with trivia, BINGO games with prizes, jokes, stories, and snacks! Her English was quite good and she even knew some Hawaiian words like "hele on"...haha! She would tell us what each town was famous for, so we could eat udon, eel, and oysters at the appropriate places! Yuki also would inform us of traffic jams and call ahead to the hotel to let them know we were going to be delayed and change the reservation time for dinner. The bus driver, Kazuo, was very professional and drove us safely to every destination. Our Bus Assistant, Rina, was so sweet and cute! She sang Japanese songs, made hot tea for us, shared some snacks, and gave us a few origami lessons! She would call out to Kazuo when he was backing up to let him know when to stop. Rina also would hold her hand out when cars were approaching so we wouldn't cross the street. She always watched for our welfare! Overall, this trip was better than I imagined. The activities that they planned for us were things that I never even knew existed...like making a paper fan, going to a sake brewery, learning how to properly make tea, and picking fresh strawberries and eating them off the plants! All I wanted to see were Mt. Fuji, the deer in Nara, and the cherry blossoms...wow...I got more than expected! I'm thinking about going back to Japan to see the Autumn colors and am considering using Kobayashi Travel again because of the reliability, good communication, and attention to details! Their planning was excellent - like including rest stops with good food and suggesting to us to bring an umbrella! (Our hotel had umbrellas to borrow!)

The biggest highlights for us were the Byodo-In Temple and the Dole Plantation. We were originally going to drive ourselves to these places, but we were so glad we ran into the vendors on the street instead. Some of the stops didn't quite meet our expectations, but for the price (especially with the discount), it was well worth it. However, the real heartbeat of the tour wasn't even the sites--it was Neo and Ryan. They are incredibly knowledgeable about the island, and their presentation was filled with heartwarming honesty, real facts, and no sugar-coating. They made sure to include everyone in the conversation, which showed such genuine care for the guests. We absolutely loved them and would tour with them again on any other adventures. I highly recommend taking a tour with Neo and Ryan--they will absolutely make your time worthwhile! Love from L. T. and family.

Once we got out on the water, the experience was unforgettable. We swam with colorful fish and sea turtles, saw dolphins, and even got to see false killer whales. It was truly a great day out at sea. The crew was exceptional: Capt. Dani, Ben, Faavae, Kania, Roxanne, Kirra, Bernard, and Keely all made the trip special. Keely deserves a special shout-out! The crew provided educational facts, acted as lifeguards, served food and drinks, and even danced, making the whole experience fun, safe, and memorable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an incredible ocean adventure in Hawai'i. Great service, beautiful wildlife, and an outstanding crew!

But despite being called a "Dolphin and You" tour, there is only dolphin WATCHING from the boat -- no swimming with dolphins. They also only stop at one snorkel spot in shallow waters.m whereas most companies have you snorkel at 2. Maybe if I had never been on another tour, I would have thought this was good, but I'd only recommend this for people who want to mainly watch things from the boat and not snorkel. I honestly saw more marine life where I live in OC. On a previous tour with a different company, I swam in waters where dolphins were swimming all around and underneath me -- it was a core memory, and I was hoping to recreate that experience. They also don't let you swim very far from the boat, which made the experience feel overly restrictive. Because the website is not clear I will lay down the iternary: 6:00am pick-up from hotel (about 1.5 hrs to get there) Restroom stop at Fareharbor 1 hr dolphin watching--basically your just on a boat 1 hr snorkel--will see sparse fish 1 hr return--will give you sandwich and water cups no water bottles, temporary tattoo offered Return to hotel: another 1.5 hrs to drop everyone off etc Kind of waste of money $180+ and my precious vacation time. Also, be wary of the reviews. They offer incentives for leaving one. Sorry, but as a Yelp Elite, my honest opinion can't be bought.
