My husband and I had a great time snorkeling at Turtle Canyon with Pure Aloha. Our crew was Ella, Sophia, Chris, Nick, and Captain Kevin (apologies for any misspellings). They were all wonderful, making sure everyone was comfortable and safe. It really does make a difference for those on the tour when the crew gets along and ensures everything runs smoothly. Snorkeling gear, fins, and life vests were provided and were all in great shape. My husband and I have snorkeled before, but there were others in the group who were first timers. The crew made sure to provide them with additional assistance to make sure they were comfortable with the gear while swimming. Ella was our main guide for this tour. She was extremely knowledgeable about different fish and provided our large group with many fun turtle facts. This experience was amazing!! Trevor, Grace, captain Nate were sooo sweet and fun!! We left at 9:30 and rode out and stopped around 9:50. The crew explained the gear and allowed us to go in after checking us for safety. The gear seemed clean and the boat was clean as well. The staff lead us to where the sleeping turtles were, the turtles that were being cleaned, and the coral reef. The water was so clear and it was my first time snorkeling sooo it was GREAT!! Crew members were in the water with us and lifeguards were watching/in water with us. We swam for an hour and heard facts about all different species. Great price too! we had a fantastic experience on our turtle snorkeling outing. i was shocked by how many turtles we saw, not to mention many large fish. the guides knew exactly where to look to find them. the guides made the trip entertaining and even our group members who didn't go into the water had a good time. we were in a similar area as some other snorkel tours and it was shocking how many people were crammed onto the other boats. our boat ride was very comfortable and we all had space to sit down. we also saw multiple whales on the ride over! i would definitely choose this group again. read more

This is a very well-managed business. The website is very informative and helpful especially issues around children and safety, and more importantly - parking. Followup emails and reminders were sent in a timely manner, and the owner also sent us a note to let us know the specific person (Alia) who would be meeting us. Alia is a super-friendly and knowledgeable guide and made the excursion as simple as possible. She had everything we needed and was very organized with the equipment and gear. Given that none of us had snorkeled before, it was not easy for my husband or myself to assist our younger (10 yo) daughter, who was a bit nervous about snorkeling. Alia sensed this right away and kept an eagle-eye on our younger daughter and made sure that she was next to her at all times (and let her hang onto her physically at any time). She did this while spotting and pointing out various sea creatures, taking photos underwater, and helping the rest of us with our own snorkeling issues. It was also comforting to see that she was recognized by locals as someone who knew the area. If we had more time, I would have done a longer snorkeling trip, or a SUP tour. Snorkeling was a highlight of our trip, and we really cannot recommend Pure Aloha Adventures enough. Tip 1: If you sign up for the 7:30 snorkeling at Hanamuana Bay, you can get into the preserve for free before 7 am (and get a good parking spot). Tip 2: Consider the water temperature when booking this trip. We went in the winter (Feb) so the water was pretty chilly. It might be better to book later in the day to let the water warm up. Snorkeling with Eva in Hanauma Bay was definitely the highlight of our trip! It was my first time snorkeling, so I was a little nervous before we got started. However, because Eva was so patient and took her time in explaining how to do things, I was able to catch on within the first few minutes. She is very easy to talk to and she is a knowledgeable instructor. My friend and I did the 7am snorkeling session - I'd recommend choosing this time if you can, because it gets VERY crowded at Hanauma Bay at 10am. Plus visibility would probably be better because less sand is being kicked around. The best part of our snorkeling session was that we were able to see a sea turtle! Eva was great about pointing out different sea creatures right away while we were snorkeling. She also captured amazing photos with her GoPro - it costed $29 per group if you wanted the photos sent to you. She took 100 pictures for us. A must do when visiting Oahu! My husband wanted to do paddle boarding before we headed home so we booked online. I was very hesitant because I was scared to fall in. Eva the instructor walked us through the steps of paddle boarding and made me personally feel very comfortable about the experience. Let me tell you I'm so glad we booked!! We had a blast and got to see so many turtles. My recommendation is to pay for the photo option so you can leave your phone locked up and just get to enjoy the experience. AMAZING! Stand up paddle boarding was by far my favorite part of my Hawaii vacation! I booked a private lesson for stand up paddle boarding with Eva, and it was beyond my expectations. Eva is so nice and a very good teacher! I'm a visual learner, and she showed me exactly what to do. This was my first time doing SUP, and I nailed it (thanks to Eva!) We even cruised next to a sea turtle right when we got into the water. We also saw some puffer fish! TIP: definitely pay the extra fee for pictures. I thought about bringing my GoPro but it would be hard to take pics and paddle at the same time. Eva sent me my pictures within the same day of my lesson. 10/10 would definitely do SUP with Eva again. I will tell everyone about this company! I had an excellent time learning how to stand up paddleboard for the first time. I am not very active as a person, nor am I someone that's very good at balancing, but I had a very good time with learning from Eva. She's very nice, accommodating and really friendly. She definitely gave us a few pointers and tips on how to get up on the board, how to paddle, when to stand up vs when not to stand up, and she even took pictures of us while on the water. Ala Moana park is a beautiful park, so much nicer than Waikiki beach btw, and it was just nice to paddle and enjoy the park. We even saw sea turtles along the way! Thanks Eva for a wonderful time! I was on a solo trip to the island before my friends could join me on the weekend. I really wanted to go snorkeling at Hanauma Bay again. I went in 2009 but hadn't been back since. I decided since I was alone, it would be best to go with tour group. Since I was solo, I booked last minute and booking was simple for me. It was a great day. We saw lots of fish. No sea turtles like I saw in 2009 but the bay also does not look as good as it did back then. Nyles, the tour guide, was fantastic. She was knowledgeable, patient and friendly. I learned a lot from her and it was great speaking snorkeling spots with her. My only recommendation would be that on the sign up page, there be some questions regarding how good of a snorkeler and swimmer you are. The water was somewhat choppy that day and it was fine for me. However, there were two people in the group that were not strong swimmers and struggled using the flotation devices. Nyles was amazing and patient with them, she felt bad for me. I didn't mind; being on a solo trip, it was great just going with the flow. Eventually those other people decided it would be best that they didn't continue with our group. We booked a paddle boarding lesson and had an awesome time. Eva was our instructor and she made the experience fun for us! We never tried paddle board before and it was on our list of things to do here. The weather was perfect with no wind. We booked the early lesson as recommended by the website since wind can pickup towards later in the day. Eva gave us good instructions and tips on how to get back on the paddle board if we did fall. She corrected my stand and I didn't fall at all! Thank you for making my first paddle board experience fun and relaxing! We saw some turtles swimming around us when we were paddling. It was my first time snorkeling and they took the time to give me a quick lesson on how to breathe properly and to relax while under water. At first I was still terrified and would panic but I eventually got used to it. Main key is to breathe slowly. Also, the trainer we had gave us some pointers about what to watch out for underwater. It sucks that I do not remember her name. I'm so bad with names. But this 5 stars review has a big influence from yhe customer service we received. Anyways, the snorkeling took place at Hanuama Bay. The beach is so beautiful and well taking care of. The water is so clear! The underwater experience was breathtaking, we saw a whole bunch of different colorful fishes. Wow this is just mind blowing. The business owner try to relate me to maybe some bad trip advisor reviews they got and straight out call my review a lie. I don't even have a trip advisor account. Then she make up this story that's completely unfamiliar to me. She either mix me up with some other unhappy customer or just try to BS their way out of this. Anyway here's my response to the shady business owner: 1) The guide never called me. Only one lady have ever called me and she never mention she's the guide. That call was at 10:00 and the lady never mentioned she'll wait for me. I asked if I can reschedule or get refund and she answered no. 2) I'm traveling with my buddy and I was the one answering the call. And my voice has never been misheard as female since I was 8. So girlfriend my ass! 3) CAPITAL LETTER? Yeah in size 8 font. That's exactly the size everyone use for unsubscribe link. Good news is it's still within a week so my travel insurance will pay me back. Snorkling in Hanauma Bay was the highlight on my trip! I'll start from the top! Booking + Communication before the date: Booking was pretty easy, nothing too crazy. The best part is all the communication for what the bring, what not to bring (ie. they provide masks and fins for snorkeling) and what to expect come the day of. As someone who plans, this is info is great to have! (ie. where to park? where to find them? I felt at ease w/ all the info before meeting Nyle for snorkeling). Our guide - Nyle - was great and even texted confirmation the day before, useful to have her number as a just in case Snorking w/ Nyle: Amazing! My fiancee and I ended up being the only ones on the tour for the 7am session. She's incredibly patient, fun, and knowledgable. She walked us through everything we needed to know before getting in the water. Since it was such a small group and we're good swimmers she has a good gauge of what we can handle and took us out a bit further. We managed to see some incredible under the water fish & coral! Afterwards: We paid for the digital pictures and got them a couple of hours later, a fun way to remember our snorkeling adventure I would recommend Pure Aloha! Many people recommend the turtle snorkel and it was well worth it and then some. Personally, I thought it was a bit too affordable (it is Hawaii!) The boat was super nice and spacious. All the gear looked brand new, was satanized and in a bucket of bleach & soap. They had special spray so your goggles wouldn't fog up and the captain (Krash!!) gave a good demo (even for us regulars) on gear. Honestly when you dive or snorkel and your gear isn't working correctly you are not going to have a good time. So he helped everyone out and was super friendly. Our boat dog Sushi was good at spotting turtles and we were blessed with a beautiful day and many turtles! Eva was awesome company as it is her company and she is very knowledgeable and friendly. Had an awesome time snorkeling today. The crew was great as well as the captain. They were very laid back but also helpful if you needed them. Got to swim with the turtles and dove down to mingle with a Morey eel. I had a terrible experience with another snorkeling excursion with a different company on the west side of the island but pure aloha more than made up for it. They didn't pack their boat out with as many people as humanly possible so it was comfortable for everyone. 10 out of 10. read more

I'd never really been snorkeling before and was originally going to try just going for it on my own, but I found a Groupon deal through Pure Aloha Adventures for snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, so I decided to go for it! Super super glad that I did! Since I booked the 7 a.m. excursion, there were (sadly) no Bus 22's to catch that early in the morning, so I did a number of transfers and managed to make it there on time. (Oh, the joys of trying to save money and the environment!) The plus side to it being so early is the fact that there are a LOT less people, and the water's a lot clearer. (You also won't smash into people whilst trying to snorkel. Some people don't really look where they're going and being kicked in the face isn't too fun.) Our group only had 3 people--me + a couple on their honeymoon. I liked that we had a small group since we got to cover a lot more ground. :] She also kept our stuff in her lockbox so we didn't have to pay for a locker. :]! A huge plus since I was traveling alone + also trying to save money. Eva is an awesome instructor + guide and really goes above and beyond. The couple I was doing the tour with didn't really have any swimming experience and they were a little nervous, but she was very patient and reassuring, and walked us all through everything--from how to wear our masks to how to breathe or "reset" if it filled up with water. We had a lot of fun. Eva was great about pointing out all sorts of different fish, and she knew the spots that the sea turtles liked to hang out in, but they were unfortunately out for the day (sigh). Since I knew how to swim, she'd show me to different places in the deeper parts of the water so I could explore a little more while she was working with the others in my group. Be sure to bring an underwater camera! I really wish I'd taken one along with me. There's a picture package through Pure Aloha Adventures but it's a little pricey in my book, so I just have a ton of pretty pictures of Hanauma Bay instead. And...remember how I said how Eva was super awesome? Earlier in the day, she'd asked us what our plans were for the day and I mentioned I was planning on hiking afterward (basically from lookout point to lookout point until I reached a hiking trail). She gave me a ride to the Makapu'u Lighthouse trailhead and also pointed out the Kaiwi Shoreline Trail off to the right so I'd have an extra place to explore. :] She's the best! 10/10 would recommend! read more

We booked a tour with Eva at Pure Aloha for a guided snorkel in Hanauma Bay. My husband and I have snorkeled many times, but this would be our kids' first time. They are 16, 13, and 9. I was going to book her company anyways, and it was lucky that while reading the Yelp reviews people mentioned the Groupon deal. Even without Groupon it was worth every penny and more! Absolutely do the 7:00am tour -- so much less people early in the day, and the bay's water is clearer and the fish much more visible. By the time we left at 10:30am, you couldn't snorkel 5' without bumping into someone. It was insanely crowded, and it was a Wednesday. First off, with Eva you don't have to stand in line to get in. She is one of the few licensed guides allowed in Hanauma Bay, so we skipped the line and went right to the video room. When you see the line yourself you will be so glad! By the time we left it was all the way out to the parking lot. She takes a max of five people, and since there was five in my family, we got her all to ourselves. Eva is AWESOME. Without her as a guide we would have gone into the bay without knowing the best route to take the kids, the best areas to see creatures and coral, and not have gotten all her great tips that even seasoned snorkelers could use. She snorkeled at a pace we could keep up with, and she was my little one's "swim buddy," so the two of them were at the head of our group. This was a great boost of confidence to my daughter! We were with her for 90 minutes, and we went all over the Bay. She guided us over some very shallow coral, with lots of expert tips and sweet encouragement on how to maneuver without getting scratched, and without damaging the fragile coral. Because of that we saw amazing, gorgeous fish everywhere! She was also super fun, a total girlfriend, easygoing, and so patient. Be sure to bring some cash with you. She has a lockbox you can keep it in, if you want. The walk down to the beach isn't so bad, but the walk up is pretty steep and long when you are tired from a couple hours of snorkeling, and it's 90 degrees out--the $2 shuttle back up is so worth it. Also for an additional $29 you can get all the photos Eva takes with her GoPro. Her photos (50+) were so much better than the ones we took with our little iPhone attachment gizmo. And knowing she was taking the photos kept us not worrying about pics and just focused on the beauty of the water and its creatures. As a bonus a few days later, we were on a sail/snorkel to Turtle Canyon with Oahu Catamaran, and Eva was also on there as a snorkel guide. It was great to see her, and it was also a big help because she knew us already, and was especially able to help my little one in the open water (we were about .5 mile from the shore, in 30' deep water). If you're thinking about doing a snorkeling tour, just do it! I had never snorkeled before, but Eva is a great instructor and will patiently walk you through the snorkeling process - from the correct way to wear your mask to making sure your flippers are the right size. I was nervous the first few times I tried putting my head under water and breathing through the tube, but, after a few more tries, I was snorkeling away! And, boy, is there a lot to see at the Hanauma Bay coral reef. You are guaranteed to see tons of colorful, fun fish who will swim right next to you with zero fear. After the introduction, Eva transitions from instructor to guide and will point out interesting things to look at underwater. She picked up rocks off the coral floor and found a starfish and a sea cucumber for us to look at and even hold! She really made my first time snorkeling really enjoyable and a highlight of my trip to Oahu! I was sad when the 90 minutes was up. A few tips: Bring your own underwater camera! Eva takes great photos, but it's fun to take your own, and you can buy an underwater camera on Amazon for $5. Also, arrive extra early!
