The restaurant was nice and clean and not crowded during this weeknight. Our chef was "Some young guy" that's what he told me to call him. My friends and I dined at Kobe Japanese House last night. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. Our chef was awesome. He was amusing and put on quite the show. Worthy of note, he was not afraid to season things a bit. I mentioned that to him and he said that he was cooking it the way he likes to cook for himself. He used liberal amounts of the teppanyaki flavor arsenal: garlic butter, salt, pepper, and of course, soy sauce. I had the filet mignon. It was delicious and it was cooked to mouth watering perfection. It had a little more pepper on it that I have ever had on my teppanyaki before but I really liked it that way. Others had filet mignon/scallops or New York steak/scallops combos. They all seemed more than happy as well. My entree came with the usual salad and soup. They were both good but nothing out of the ordinary. The price is in line with what you will pay at similar restaurants in the area. It's about what a filet mignon might cost you at a regular steakhouse... or a little less... but it's much more entertaining this way. Incidentally, I've been to Kishi in Upland (twice) and Tokyo Kitchen in Montclair since the last time I dined at Kobe. Although both were good, neither one quite compares. If you're in the mood for teppanyaki, I highly recommend Kobe Japanese House. read more

I was at the store to celebrate the birthday with my family. I did not make a reservation. The store was busy when I walk in and I expected to wait. The lady who took my name and phone number told me that the waiting time was 30 minutes, which was totally acceptable for a busy night without reservation. However, the wait was more than an hour before we seated. After that, we wait for another hour before the chief started to cook our order in front of us. Food was actually decent. However, if I knew I have to wait for 2 hours in the first place I would just walk out and try it next time. I feel the store can do better by telling us that they had a busy night and the actual waiting time will be 2 hours or so. How am I just now reviewing this place?! Honestly this place can be hit & miss as far as customer service goes, but the food is always on par!!! Tonight our chef was on fire! I loved that I actually understood what he was saying, and he really focused on entertaining my daughter which was awesome. I think it was the first time my 7yo really got into it. He even threw zucchini in her mouth and she attempted to catch it! She surprised me! I ordered the filet mignon and lobster and the filet melted in my mouth. The lobster was slightly salty but definitely cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the filet mignon, chicken and shrimp and he said it was so yummy. My little one ordered the chicken kids meal and enjoyed it. I LOVE their fried rice!! It's always so delicious so pay the extra and you won't regret it. We've been here probably a dozen times over the last 5-6 years and the food never disappoints. Unfortunately, customer service isn't always great, when it come so to greeting you, refilling orders or overall wait staff friendliness. But the chefs usually make up for it with their wonderful skills and entertainment. It's a small restaurant so it can get crowded. If you are trying it for the first time, I'd recommend trying it early in the week when it's less busy. It's quite pricey as all Teppanyaki grills tend to be, but I've never been disappointed by my food selection. read more

It was a pretty busy night so I will give some leniency to the servers/ ladies but I went with my family, about a party of 10 and we all needed a water refill at the same time for awhile because it had been awhile since they checked on us. I bussed it and stacked most of the plates myself and put it to the side to make the table look clean for pictures. Still not a big deal. I go to pay while the rest of my family is still sitting. The cashier at the front makes it a big deal to point out tip is not included. I knew that already and head back to my table to count out the tip I wanted to leave at the table and still hang out with my family. As we are BARELY getting up to hug and say our goodbyes, with tip money in my hand to leave at the table, one of the ladies goes to my table and asked me why I didn't tip. Easy to get a reservation. No body ever smiled once upon greeting or seating us or through out the dinner. The service was good however. The chef seamed to be a rookie and didn't handle the tools needed to make the food well at all. He start a with the fried rice and put about a half a pound of butter on it and way too much soy sauce.
