Well I am rounding up from 3.5 stars based on I've come to Kishi so many times and it's always been amazing. Tonight. Not so much but everyone has a bad day. The service has been better in the past. We had a new to us waiter that never returned to see if we wanted a second drink, typically we always order at least two drinks each. The food was okay, but could have been seasoned better. We have had this chef before but he wasn't the normal chef we have so maybe that's the difference but the food could have been a little better. Usually the sauces can make up for this problem but for whatever reason tonight it seemed like the sauces were watered down a little. Like I said, everyone has a bad day but I'm worried because it's been a little while since we have been here and it was not my best memory of this place. Kishi is typically my favorite teppen restaurant but tonight was a miss. I'll update the review the next time we come.

Love love love this place! Fresh sushi always and really big cuts of sushi. It never disappoints and it always hits the spot. In addition to the delicious food, the service is also great. Very friendly workers that we have come to know since we are always going back for more. Good place for a regular dinner with the family, a solo date, date night, and special days of celebration. They are really sweet with my children too, even my kids love it here. I can't say enough good things about Kishi. It's my favorite sushi restaurant, I'm forever grateful that a friend recommended this place to us.

Kishi has been here since I was a child. I haven't been here for years. The place is in a great location, right off Foothill Blvd. We came on Veterans day for lunch. They weren't super busy. Our party of 7 were seated right away. The place looks the same. The decor is Japanese themed. You can choose between Teppanyaki or regular menu. We chose the lunch menu. The prices are still pretty high for a lunch menu. The service was quick and efficient. I got the chicken Katsu curry. The chicken was thick and the breading was crispy. The curry was Japanese style. It was good. I didn't care for the chicken katsu though. I prefer it to be thinner. I probably won't get that again. My mom got the salmon tempura lunch special. She enjoyed it. My teens got the Chicken Teriyaki Ala carte. It was nice that it came with rice, soup and salad. The chicken came out in chunks with teriyaki sauce drizzled over it. That was strange to me as I was expecting it to be coated in sauce. Unfortunately, this isn't the Kishi I remembered from long ago. I probably won't return.

One of Uplands best kept secrets! Or is it ? Newly discovered but apparently has a long history of serving the community. Ambience is great and very friendly. Came here for my sister in laws birthday. We are defined fans of the restaurant and staff !

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant. The sushi is excellent. I eat at the regular restaurant more often than the teppan. The Daisho meal for 2 is my go to. It'll feed 3 pretty easy. It's super Americanized but I love it.

This is the custom roll they made for my daughter.

My fam went here to celebrate my Uncles birthday. We've been to a bunch of Teppanyaki grills in the past, and this is so far our favorite. For birthday they do a celebration with a silly hat and some free ice cream, then they take a photo which they put on the wall. My husband had the Filet Mignon, which he said is the best steak maybe he's ever had. My uncle and daughter loved their sushi rolls, they even made a custom one for her since she is picky and she ate the whole thing. The staff was so kind and friendly about making her roll the way she wanted it, and they were also happy to accommodate my Vegetarian by grilling her an egg to eat with her rice! One think that was different from other Teppanyaki grills I have been to, was the salad dressing, other places have this orange dressing I do not like, that has too much ginger imo. The salad dressing here was DELICIOUS. They said they make it in-house. As any self respecting restaurant should do. One thing about the rolls, they. Are. HUGE. We have never seen rolls so big. It's almost a negative since they're kinda harder to eat, but I love some bang for my buck.

Always good customer service & always good food. Came here for a birthday with a party of 12 adults and 2 children. Had a good time love the group photos that goes on the wall but my only complaint is is that I made the reservation two months in advance and asked if we'd be at the same table. I even called maybe a week or 2 before and was told yes again then we get there and were sat at two separate tables. Really frustrating

My friends and I were in the mood for some Japanese food last night. We usually go to Kobe Japanese House but we wanted a change of scenery. Kishi Japanese Restaurant in Upland was suggested. They've apparently been there since 1982 but I had never been there before. That's where we went. There were seven of us. Several different things were ordered. I had the filet mignon. It was very good. I do wish our teppanyaki chef had used a tad bit more soy sauce while he was cooking it however. Our chef was very entertaining. He put on quite the show. Two of us were celebrating birthdays so they ended up singing to us and snapping a photo for their wall. Oh... and we got a free green tea ice cream to boot. The ambiance was cozy and authentic. Overall, it was a great experience.

In all of my visits the seafood has been fresh and quality as well as super tasty in preparation. Their Salmon and Eel sushi is so divine. Great sushi chefs. I love the ambiance of TK as well. There are two changes that I think could bring TK up to 5 star range. One would be more consistent service. They have some really great servers, like Chris and Lauren (some others as well, in the past whose names I will get in the future), but it is somewhat common to get forgotten for 20min during a change of service or because they are understaffed, which is difficult when you are ordering in rounds rather than all at once. And second, it would be so amazing if they would have 1 night a week (maybe a Sunday or Monday) reserved for relaxing music; really anything from Standards, Jazz, Japanese, Classic Rock, Trip Hop....anything mellow. We would go on that night every time! (And I've heard other people express the same wish.) It is not uncommon here to end up eating to super loud, raucous, music that makes me feel like I should be in a mosh pit rather than a dining room. It makes both conversation and relaxation difficult. I have nothing against rage against the machine, but I prefer not to rage while I'm eating.

From the moment we walked in she was super sweet and attended us right away . The food was as pretty good and came out with decent timing for a Friday night . I would've gave 5 starts if it wasn't for the bartender that came to break Lauren , she had a bad attitude and you can just see her mood in her face . Sadly she ruined what could've been 5 start experience and my date night with my husband . She kept making comments and complaining on how stressed she was to the customer next to us and just made everything completely awkward for us . It's unfortunate that our first visit here ended this way .

Sizzling plates used to be THE big thing in the early and mid 2000s with lots of boba places having them as as specialty (RIP Coffee Break and MJ's Tea House), but now aside from a handful of businesses and Pepper Lunch, they're much more rare. Glad that the IE has Sizzlin' Place as one of their sizzling plate heavy hitters. Aside from the sizzling plates, they have other menu items including fried appetizers, soup and dried noodles, and sides like fries and takoyaki, but if you're going to a sizzling plate place, you gotta get a sizzling plate, you know? That's decorum. Service is welcoming and friendly, and efficient in the safest way possible with the scorching hot plates. Seating can get limited due to the nature of the meal, but I've never had an issues the times I chose to eat here. Ambiance can be relaxed and chill when the Haven City Market isn't busy, but during weekends or rush hour, it can get a bit hectic and there may be a bit of a wait. A staple that you can never go wrong with is the hot plate beef and if you're a carnivore or if you're sharing, you have to upsize and upgrade it. The slices of beef here are just slightly thicker than what I'm used to at Pepper Lunch, but that just means it'll shrink less and get less stuck on the hot plate as well. You get a hearty serving of rice with some corn on top, pepper, and green onions. Like other sizzling plate places, you can always get pasta or udon instead of rice, if you're feeling a bit more adventurous. Super hot, filling meal that's easy to eat. Not the most flavorful sometimes, at least with what I order, and in comparison to other competitors, but hits the spot when need be.

Unfortunately, the hibachi experience itself was underwhelming. The chef put on very little of the entertaining performance that Benihana is known for, with most of the demonstration consisting of repeatedly tapping his spatula on the grill. Overall, it lacked the energy and engagement we were expecting. The bigger issue, however, was the food quality. While eating, my niece discovered a small white hair in her meal. We informed the manager, who suggested it may have come from the rice and offered a $20 discount. We continued eating, but less than five minutes later my sister found another hair in her steak. We then had to speak with a different manager, who offered to reduce the cost of that entrée. Despite these issues, our final bill was still over $400. At that price point, I expected much better food quality, service, and overall attention to detail. It was a disappointing first experience, and unfortunately it did not meet the standard I expected from Benihana.
