Our first welcome was the hostess who didn't even stand to greet us and told us to sit at a table at the end of the way. Our waiter was pleasant enough and checked in on us regularly though. The restaurant is nicely lit and not too harsh on the eyes. When we looked at the menu and were looking to order we were very surprised at how expensive everything was. One of the 5 piece sushi nigiri appetizers was $15.45. I ordered a caterpillar roll and salmon roll and a chicken broth (they don't have miso soup which was very surprising to me). The broth was great; Both rolls were alright and the presentation neat. The soy sauce was given in little plastic cups and was entirely too sweet from standard soy sauce. I love the chicken fried rice at Kobe. I eat at Kobe's about twice a month. It is spinetingling good. The chef is extremely entertaining and funny. It is a dinner and a show. Was very disappointed in food. Everything I had was almost cold. Could smell the salmon before placed on my table, was awful. My wife didn't like the way her shrimp tasted. Looking for a pre-dinner snack (yes, I know what I said). we stopped in here and were able to get seated at the bar immediately. To be seated at a table or booth we would have had a wait of probably 30 minutes. The staff was very friendly, but unfortunately there was some confusion on who was supposed to be our waiter/waitress. Several different staff members talked to us, then they figured it out. They felt very bad and considering how busy they were, no mark down on the star rating for this. We had a small bowl of soup and a salad that came with the typical ginger salad dressing. Fresh salad and the dressing wasn't done in excess like some of the places have a tendency to do. The sushi roll was spot on and was exactly what we were looking for. This was our second trip here and it was every bit as good as the first trip (except for the confusion about who would be waiting on us at the beginning). We had Kobe for dinner tonight. We both started with the chicken soup. I had the Yaki Soba with beef. My first time trying it and it was good! The flavor of the noodles is a little sweet and the beef was tender and cooked to my liking. Benilda had chicken fried rice. And, she will have it several times tomorrow too lol! Kobe is in the Gadsden mall so it was perfect to swing in and try before a movie. However, I can say the experience overall was disappointing. First of all, the place is really clean and nice and up to date. You get to choose to sit at the grill or a table. Since my friends and I had a movie to make in about an hour, we chose a table so we wouldn't have to wait. My trouble came from what I ordered and the price. I ordered the teriyaki chicken plate for $14.95. It comes with soup, salad, chicken, rice, and vegetables. I don't really like the soup so the waiter offered 2 bowls of salad instead. I liked that very much even though the salad is just lettuce, carrots, and the special dressing made out of ginger. When the rest of my plate came, I thought it was not a big portion for the price I paid. The rice and vegetables were pretty good. I felt like I should have been given more vegetables. The worst part of the meal was the chicken. It was like they threw one chicken breast into a pan and lightly brushed it with teriyaki. Most Japanese places I've been to in the past drown their chicken in teriyaki. It wasn't inedible or horrible by any means, but it was just plain. I asked for extra teriyaki sauce and the server brought me a whole cup full that helped. But paying $14.95 for basically a plain chicken breast that I could have cooked at home made me feel like a chump. I don't really like seafood so if I ever do go back, I will try the beef. My friends also told me you usually get more food at the grill. Kobe wasn't a horrible place to eat by any means. It's just that I thought I should have been given a larger portion for the price I paid and that there would have been more teriyaki to my teriyaki chicken. read more

Easily the most disappointing restaurant in Gadsden. Went out on a date night with my wife for something different. Ordered the salmon and shrimp. My wife ordered the salmon. The chef was friendly and performed all of the usual Japanese restaurant tricks. When the chef arrived he placed the salmon on the grill. I kid you not when I say the salmon was cut in a steak form and quarter of an inch thick. I almost think even the chef was surprised because he over cooked it so much it was similar to jerky. He then proceeded to pass all of my shrimp out to the rest of the table. I ordered salmon and shrimp and received 2 pieces of shrimp just like everyone else. They didn't order shrimp. I spent almost $70 and I received a pile of rice, vegetables, one ounce of salmon and two shrimp. Needless to say I will never return. I wish them luck but I anticipate they will be out of business soon. Return customers will become a problem. read more

Went in and ordered takeout. The menu online was not for this branch, so of course that required a phone call home to get an amended order. It took them 55 minutes to give me 3 sushi rolls and an order of chicken tenders. People that were waiting to be seated when I placed my order were leaving well before I received my food. When I got home, a five minute drive away, my chicken tenders were nowhere near freshly made, room temperature and no longer crunchy. Will never return. read more

This isn't the best Japanese in the area, I would give that honor to Fuji over in Oxford, but if you are in Gadsden looking for Japanese this is the best place to go. The space is nice, clean, and welcoming. The service reliably efficient and polite. The fried rice doesn't disappoint, that's what you're really going for anyways, right? The fried tofu appetizer is also quite good. The Hawaiian sushi roll is awesome!!! The salad and the soup is the same as it is at every Japanese restaurant, no surprises there. They have always had great bar service and been willing to mix up interesting new drinks when I was there. On the other hand, the meat and veggies always seem to be missing a marinade or some extra flavor to my taste. Now if you're that person who is going to drench everything in the shrimp sauce, and who doesn't love that, you probably won't ever notice what I'm talking about and you'll think it's great! If you don't love the shrimp sauce, you might however find your meal to be a bit bland. If that's the case, just order the fried rice and get a nice appetizer or sushi for your protein & veggies, you'll be much happier with that. read more

I have been before when it was good. Last Saturday I went with a new friend from Mobile area. It was an embarrassment to me. The steak and shrimp tasted old or bad. The fried rice did not have much egg or anything...the cook never made eye contact and never interacted with us or anyone at our table...it was a total let down in every way. This place has gone down hill... the chef used little too no seasoning or sauce on the hibachi... the fried rice had no vegetables and maybe 2 squirts of soy sauce... they do not have mustard sauce anymore therefore they can not put it in the fried rice... for 30 bucks I had a terrible meal... please do not go here any more...also out grill was not cleaned before our chef began there was rice and noodles stuck on the grill!
