Went to Kobe on a Friday night right at 5:00 for our reservation. We hadn't been here in many years, and my 10-year-old wanted to try it. We had a party of six, including two kids. Since our full party was already there, we were seated right away. Our waitress, Kim, explained everything thoroughly and was attentive throughout the entire night. Our chef, Alex, was phenomenal. He made our children feel included and entertained the whole time. He was very friendly and kept the excitement going throughout dinner. I had the filet mignon, and it was delicious. Even my 10-year-old, who normally doesn't eat steak, tried it and kept asking for more! The fried rice was the best I've ever had. A fun teppanyaki spot near Village Pointe, and a great pick for a special occasion. We went for Father's Day and really enjoyed it. A few things to know before you go: reservations are required and the process is a little more involved than usual since you fill out a form and wait to hear back, so plan ahead. Also, since they seat a full table at a time, your actual seating may be a bit later than your reservation time. Worth checking their website, Facebook, or Instagram before you go too as they occasionally post coupons. Just make sure to mention it to your server before they ring you up. For food, the salmon and shrimp were the highlights for us. Shrimp comes as a starter for the table, but I ordered extra as part of my combo and it was worth it. The steak was fine, but not the standout in steakhouse country. Fried rice is an extra $4, which is reasonable given how good it is. Kids meals at $12 are a solid deal since they come with soup, salad, and rice. The spicy mustard dipping sauce and their spiciest sauce were both great. Our cook was friendly and engaging without overdoing it, which is the right call for teppanyaki. This place is our go to for birthdays. Everyone just has the best time and the food is always consistent. We've tried the sirloin, filet, mahi mahi, shrimp, and chicken. All delicious and cooked perfectly. The apps are well done. My fav is the egg rolls. They are a little pricy here, but you also get a great show. Seeing them make everything in front of you, the way they keep you entertained, and the thoughtfulness of making sure you are having the best experience just makes this place special. Haven't been here for a few years and still just as impressed! Show up just before your reservation time for the best experience. Once we were close to our time we were seated. Soup was immediately served and our drink orders were taken and came quickly. Server was great, gave us to go sauces and to go containers at the end. Chef was funny and put on a great show. The food was fantastic, I can't fathom how they make fried rice taste so good (that's before we even got the main courses). I love that we all got a little salad and soup with our meals, and the steak and shrimp were delicious of course. We even had enough to make a great lunch the next day. Of course, you don't just go to Kobe for the food (even though it is a full five stars on its own), you also get a wonderful dining experience at the hibachi grill. I tried Kobe for the first time last night with a large group and it was so good!! Our server was great, I was sitting at the kids table and everybody kept dropping forks and he always got us new ones pretty quickly lol! This was our family's first time at Kobe. We had went to Osaka in the past. Not that Osaka is bad by any means because we have never had a bad experience there. Kobe, felt like a little step above. The real reason why was the hard take on making sure that our oldest son could eat with an egg allergy. The staff made it very clear that allergens would be VERY accommodated by the restaurant. I use all caps for VERY because they stressed it multiple times. The staff is friendly, the ambience is a little loud but that is what you would expect from a Hibachi restaurant. The food, especially the fried rice, I recommend the $4 upgrade, it's delicious! You could just eat here, but for the prices it's more like a special night out. Enjoy the show and plan a party of people. You can have 10 at a station or reserve two connected stations. Whatever you do, don't be a bozo; make a reservation! And if you get in their email list they'll send you coupons every now and again. The food is good but what you're paying for is the show. This is a large, flat hibachi cook top. The cook will make jokes, entertain you with skills, and flip shrimp into your mouth. You will have a separate server to bring you drinks, your traditional Japanese starter soup and salad, and coordinate the "Banzai" birthday (for an extra $6 included the gong ringing, photo, and cheesecake dessert (yes this use to be free, but not any more)). Note: This isn't a place you sit and talk with your loved ones. This is a place for showmanship. Kobe is loud as all the chefs are doing their own thing and families who are in their "down time" - between the show and paying the bill - are yelling across the hibachi to be heard, plus the special occasion gong (which happens at least once at each time). I have a love-hate relationship with Kobe. I've had a few good experiences and one really terrible one. The proteins and veggies at Kobe were delicious and filling, and the meals are not too expensive! It is a little more than other restaurants of the same caliber, but this includes a little interaction and fun with the chef. The cook stands right at your table, lights up the grill in front of him with a large flame, and goes to work on your appetizers! They have little tricks that they do with their knives/spatulas/sauces and even get the diners involved in the little show (throwing pieces of chicken and making you catch it in your mouth, etc). Another plus is that you get to try some of what everyone orders (so everyone should get something different, if you want to share a few bites to try different items). Now, on to the reason for the three star review. Our last visit to Kobe was on a quiet Saturday afternoon. The staff were all just standing around chatting in small groups when we walked in and asked for a table. One of them piped up that there were none available. I kid you not, there was not one table with diners in the entire place. They were not closed, they were not all booked up, no reason given - they just would not serve us. It was so bizarre. We were greeted and sat promptly and our order was taken. Our soup and salad came out first, the soup was really good and I loved the salad and dressing on it. I've been craving something like this for a while now and Kobe hit the mark for me and the family. I was looking for somewhere a little different but not your typical steak house. I remembered visiting a hibachi steakhouse before and remembered what a blast not only I had but how entertained my kids were as well. When you enter the restaurant check in a the front with the host I highly recommend reservations. You may have to wait a little while depending on your party size as the restaurant is trying to fill all available space at the hibachi grill ( which seats 8). But that's ok cause right next to where you check in stop by the bar a grab one of your favorite cocktails or mock tails and enjoy the evening while you wait. Your always welcome to take your drink with you to the table once it's ready. Once your seated any addition drink orders are taken as well as appetizers. While there are so many tempting apps to choose from trust me your not going to go hungry once your main course come out. The menu has a number of selections from chicken, seafoods and different cuts of steaks. Not sure what to pick from try a combo. This is all accompanied with a salad, rice, (fried for a slight up charge), veggies and shrimp appetizer. We recently went to Kobe steakhouse with our kids to celebrate my 50th birthday. They had never been, so the idea of "dinner and a show" was interesting to them. While we had to wait about 25 minutes past our reservation, once we were seated, we quickly started getting food. The atmosphere is definitely one of fun so it is a little noisy but that's ok. It also isn't a place to go to really talk to people other than the ones right beside you. That being said, our chef was great and the food, though pricey, was really good. My son said he would go back for his birthday. If you can, I recommend paying for the filet and scallops; they were both excellent. We really enjoy Kobe for those special occasions. Really fun experience with very good food. Adjustments have been made for COVID. All customers will need to wear a mask until it is time to eat. Kobe has also put up plexiglass partitions at the table to separate groups from one another and all staff are wearing masks. We actually felt fairly comfortable with their precautions and we dined early before large numbers of people showed up. Kobe is not utilizing regular menus any longer.
