I am so blown away by this entire establishment. I'm still dreaming about this dinner!! My boyfriend and I scheduled a reservation for Valentine's Day but decided to go the day before due to our schedules. We started the evening with some drinks, I got a sparkling blackberry martini and it was so smooth. We ended up getting two starters since they both sounded delicious and we weren't led astray. The crab cakes were light and fluffy with just the right amount of seasoning to not overpower the crab. The other was the bacon wrapped shrimp. This was probably one of my favorite items we order this evening. The sauce had a sweet and spicy component that paired well with the bacon and shrimp. Due to the holiday, the Valentine's Day special menu was available for us to peruse. My boyfriend ordered the lobster and steak with sides of mashed potatoes and mac and cheese with starter of crab bisque. I had a grilled spread of salmon, scallops, crab cakes, and shrimp with sides of mashed potatoes and creamed corn. I wish I was able to put samples into this review, every bite left us wanting more and wishing our stomached were bigger. If you do choose to visit J Gilbert's, I recommend you reserve a table online. This spot in downtown requires street or valet parking at a nearby hotel. I ended up choosing street parking for $1/hr. We were seated immediately in the back without a reservation, but the restaurant was not too busy on a weekday. I tried the small filet with asparagus and poblano potatoes, while my colleague tried the Dean's Shrimp and a chipotle shrimp appetizer. Our waiter was a little strange as he kept spitting a little on my menu as he was describing the highlights of the menu. Then when delivering the steak, he didn't ask if us if we wanted any sauce or condiments. I guess they are confident their prime steaks will be good enough on their own, which they were, but it would have been nice if he asked regardless. I could have used some Tabasco. The asparagus was wood grilled and tasty. The 6 oz steak, while medium at the edges, was indeed cooked a perfect medium rare on the inside as requested. The price is very fair for a prime tenderloin that comes with 2 side orders. You cannot get this price at most steakhouses in Houston. If you do, it would not come with 2 sides. We looked over the dessert menu briefly, but I didn't see anything I couldn't live without. The chocolate item was too much chocolate. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was warm, classy, and exactly the kind of spot you hope a surprise date night turns into. Oysters Rockefeller. End of discussion. They're quite possibly the greatest thing I've ever had in my life. Perfectly balanced, rich, and absolutely unforgettable. If you come here and don't order them, you're doing yourself a disservice. For the entree...I went with the blackened chicken rigatoni, and it was chef's kiss. Creamy, spicy, smoky...yes, every bite hit. My better half ordered the 10‑oz sirloin and added a side of mac and cheese. Steak cooked exactly how she likes it, tender and flavorful, and the mac? Their happy hour menu is one of my favorites in Omaha, and I was so excited to come back after about six months away. I did notice that the "Finest Hour" cocktail prices have gone up from $8 to $10, which isn't a dealbreaker, but I was hoping the quality and presentation would match the increase. I usually order the Smoked Old Fashioned, and it's normally such a fun, impressive drink. This time though, the waitress hurriedly set it down with no smoke and a garnish that looked thrown together -- kind of a letdown since the presentation is half the experience! For food, I ordered the sliders, which have always been a perfect portion in the past. This time they were noticeably smaller, and most of my plate was kettle chips instead of sliders. I'm hoping this was just an off night because I've always loved this restaurant and the pre-show vibes here. We enjoyed our food so much that we completely forgot to take a picture! Came here on a Friday night to celebrate my birthday, and as always, it's a favorite spot for special occasions. We've been loyal patrons for years, and the service continues to be amazing. Our server was attentive, and they were so kind to our 1-year-old son. The food is consistently excellent, never had a complaint. I ordered from the Prix Fixe Menu. First course was the Maryland Crab Bisque. One of my favorites in Omaha. Perfect flavor and just the right amount of crab. For the main course, I had the Filet Combo (6oz filet & crab cake with mashed potatoes and creamed corn with bacon). Everything was delicious with wonderful flavors. By the time dessert came, I realized I'd eaten it all too quickly to snap any photos! I chose the Crème de la Crème Brûlée, which was absolutely fantastic. My husband and I devoured it in no time. He ordered the 8oz Filet with au gratin potatoes and asparagus, solid dish with great flavor. For dessert, since it was my birthday, they surprised me with an additional treat to take home: their Carrot Cake, which is honestly one of the best in the city. Such a wonderful experience. Perfect meal in Omaha the night before the concert. We flew in from Portland, Or. and I looked hard for a good restaurant for us to enjoy...I found it. I even called the hotel a couple of weeks out and they said J Gilbert's continues to be everyone's favorite. We were sat immediately by a very friendly gentleman who lived in my hometown of Schuyler, NE. Connie was our server and she was extremely efficient and engaging. We were initially provided an excellent plate of sourdough bread with two butters. We then ordered an excellent bottle of Ferrari Carano Cabernet. Then we proceeded to enjoy a perfectly made order of Onion Rings. They arrived with three sauces, and they were coated in pretzel crumbs...so good. We split a house salad and it was very refreshing. She had the 6oz Filet and I had the 14oz Ribeye, which were both incredible. The Poblano Scalloped Potatoes should also be mentioned. It was so good. The restaurant was full and it is easy to see why. With the phenomenal service by Connie, and the great food...we will definitely come back on our next trip to Omaha. read more

This place is an amazing steak house. I have no complaints with any parts of the dining service and the food. They delivered! We ordered a maple bacon for apps, lobster bisque, onion soup, 6oz mignon and 8oz mignon,and a carrot cake for dessert. Everything was super delicious and well seasoned. The bacon was just a bit salty but the maple syrup made up for it. The sourdough served before our soups came was delicious. We actually asked for them to box one up to take home and they did! This restaurant was recommended for steaks by someone we met at our hotel. We booked dinner reservations as it was close by in the Marriott Hotel. We started off with a couple cocktails and warm sourdough bread. So far so good. We ordered a bone in ribeye to share, sides of creamed corn and broccolini, and grilled scallops as an add on. Steak was ordered medium rare, but first steak came out medium well. They kindly replaced it with another, which was raw. Apparently the chef overcompensated by making sure it wasn't overcooked. Our server took a look at it after my husband cut into it and took it back again. Third time was a charm. The steak was perfectly cooked and delicious. By then, the sides were cold, but we were just grateful that the steak was ok. We felt bad for our server, but she was kind and understanding. The manager came by to check on us a few times and made sure that the steak was prepared the way it should have been the first time. She said that she told them to take the temperature of the steak on the third try. She was apologetic and discounted our bill without us asking. Their carrot cake was delicious, as was their chocolate cake which came with raspberry ice cream. Both were huge slices and we took half back to our hotel. A most wonderful experience and some of the best food we've ever eaten!!! Our reservation was for 5:30 and we arrived around 5:20 and were immediately sat. The reservation from Open Table was only for the bar and that is where we were sat. I didn't ask for a different location. The bar area was nice and we had a high top table for four. The chairs were decent but my legs were not quite long enough to be comfortable resting them on the crossbar. I've sat in worse seats though. I decided to get the Prix Fixe and selected the Little Gem salad, the filet with sour cream mashed potatoes and asparagus, and the sorbet. My husband got the crab bisque blackened scallops with the pork belly and maple corn. Every bite I tasted was amazing. Like a "omg" type of moment. I don't usually get excited about mashed potatoes or corn sides, but both of these sides were stunners. And the sorbet? Wowsers!!! I do feel the Lime Mint flavor would actually be better as a palette cleanser course (would be a great addition to the Prix Fixe menu as a bonus) but the Passionfruit was absolutely wonderful. Our server, Blake, was also really fantastic. She was kind, friendly, and provided the perfect type of attentiveness. When we are back in town, I would definitely visit again. Wow! My husband and I visited J Gilbert's for our Anniversary and we were both blown away! I tend to avoid the Capital District because parking can sometimes be a pain. I will certainly not be making that mistake again because dining at J. Gilbert's made it 100% worth it! On Sundays they have a great all-day happy hour (limited to the bar area) so we decided to make our way to the bar before our dinner reservation to have a couple of drinks. With their seasonal and signature cocktails only being $10, it made it not too expensive to be adventurous. For myself, I chose the Perfect Peach and the Lavender Drop. I found the Perfect Peach to be pretty good but I didn't love the hint of smoky flavor. I did however LOVE the Lavender drop. The taste was absolutely fantastic and the addition of the blueberry vodka gave the perfect amount of sweetness. My husband chose a Whiskey Sour with Crown and the Encore Watermelon Margarita. I tasted both of them and thought they were fantastic! After our time at the bar, we were promptly seated in a roomy booth. Our server, Virginia was incredible! We found her to be kind, efficient, and knowledgeable regarding the menu. Both of us decided to choose our meals from the Prix Fixe menus. I chose a wedge salad, a 6oz filet with an added crab cake, grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes as my sides, and crème brûlée as my dessert. My entire meal was nothing short of amazing. The steak was cooked to perfection and everything had such incredible flavor. My husband chose the French Onion Soup, the Short Rib Gnocchi with a side of Wood-fire Grilled Shrimp, and house-made ice cream for his dessert. The Gnocchi was out of this world! This will certainly make my recommendations list when people are requesting an upscale dinner spot. The location is very nice, not too stuffy but very well kept. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. The sourdough bread with two types of butter served at the start of the meal was delicious. I had the little gem Caesar salad - great dressing and tons of finely shaved Parmesan. The most incredible part of the meal was the short rib gnocchi. Wow. The short rib just melted in your mouth, the gnocchi was pillowy soft, and the horseradish sauce was the perfect complement to the dish. It was my dad's birthday, which came with a free dessert. I was really looking forward to a great steak in Omaha. Unfortunately it was a disappointment. Sat at the bar and service was good. Draft beer was nice and cold. Atmosphere at this restaurant inside the Marriott in the downtown district was nice and lively. Had the Shrimp cocktail appetizer which was acceptable except I felt the Shrimp was from frozen. Filet Mignon (petite size) was ordered Med Rare but arrived Rare so I had them cook it a little more. It took awhile for some reason although it was the same steak. Anyway it was cooked Med Rare to Medium but it had so much salt on it that I barely cook eat 1/2 of it. Very disappointing and the steak wasn't great quality either. Live and learn I guess. Should have saved money and went to Dave's Hot Chicken next to my Hampton Inn. read more

Our server, Corey, was beyond amazing... you know the guy has been working the industry for a hot minute when he can adjust to handling our friends kids and just 8 adults that haven't seen eachother in years. He stayed engaged and humble and very fun and professional all at the same time. On a side note, I have worked in the seafood industry and steak houses... scallops were to die for!! Its so easy to overcook scallops but they were PERFECT!!! We came for the steaks, as did everyone else, and we had a fantastic time Oh, and shout out to the bartenders!! I was staying in Omaha overnight on a work trip, I actually thought J Gilbert's was in my hotel but it's in the Marriott just a short brisk 4 min walk from Hilton. The walk was easy and fast this Florida lady did not freeze. I enjoyed Happy Hour AKA Finest Hour it's M-F 4-6:30 and Sunday all day! It's an amazing happy hour, the appetizers served were full sized. I was caught off guard so I filled up too fast. When I walked up the stairs toward the restaurant it was 4:04, I waited a few minutes because it looked like the restaurant had not opened yet. I double checked the time then tried the door. Yes it's open but you would not know it. I walked across the dining area (as the sign stated) to the hostess stand. It's dim light and has a wall fake fireplace for ambiance. I was greeted by very nice people and led just past the bar to a high top by the window. They must have known I would need a big table for all the food I wanted to order. I started with the Angels Envy smoked old fashioned. Very tasty and such a nice presentation. Giant cubes are a plus because I'm a sipper and they don't melt fast. I love onion rings so I had to try them, so good! Served with 3 very different sauces. There is something for everyone, I recommend sharing. Then I had the Shrimp Durango. At first I was not happy with it being served lukewarm. However after tasting, the large shrimp were perfectly cooked and had a lobster like texture. Had they been overcooked it may have ruined them. Get these and don't share ... it's only 6 shrimp lol Also comes with a nice portion of spinach & tomato for dipping your bread into. Sourdough & whipped butter for the table... yum! I really wanted prime rib but it's only served Fri-Sun while supplies last. So I was kind of bummed and not sure what I really wanted. I was going to get the prime rib sliders since it's on the HH menu but they didn't have them. I asked my server, Silvia (who was amazing BTW) about the sliders since now I'm full but I wanted some meat... being at a steakhouse. She recommended the wagyu burger. Wagyu burger is AMAZING! However I didn't eat it last night. I was really disappointed it was served on a cold pretzel bun. Who eats cold pretzels?? They need to be warm or the texture is just too chewy. I highly recommend if you order this ask for your bun to be toasted. I have no idea why it's served cold? Not enough to knock off a star but I may have sent that bun back to the kitchen if I was going to eat it. Instead I took it to my hotel and this AM warmed up it was still excellent. I love their sunday happy hour, which as of now, is 1/2 priced bottles of wine, which hello have you ever had wine at a restaurant? prepare to pay 3x more than the bottle, so anyway...the server was SO sweet, and the whole staff. This is one of the fancy restaurants in downtown Omaha! Definitely the place to get high quality food and treatment! The staff were super friendly and we had a reservation and were seated right away. Parking is iffy - because it's downtown - and especially if there are events near by at the Steelhouse and/or CHI. So definitely take a peak at the calendar to plan ahead. This is known for their steaks but I had to try the gnocchi option. It was delicious, creamy, and a perfect portion size. My partner got the wagyu burger and it was delicious! Can't say enough good things about this place. They have delicious craft drinks, and awesome food. I had the maple glazed salmon with grilled asparagus and mushrooms. The salmon is cooked perfectly, absolutely delicious! The mushrooms are one of my favorite side. I didn't enjoy this as much as I had hoped. I figured if you want a good steak you should be able to find one in Omaha Nebraska. But, although this place is rated highly, it is part of the Landry's franchise. I liked the fixed price menu aspect of things period but I can't say that I thought my steak was all that good, and I selected the more expensive option. Perhaps I was expecting too much and that I always think a good steak is best the accompanied by something like an Argentinian Malbec. All they have a California wines, which are OK but not fantastic. The service wise attentive and cheerful, but good service cannot overcome expensive OK food. read more
