Probably one of the best fine dining experiences I have had. The feel of the restaurant was right and the type of cuisine was right up my alley. This is a very subjective subject matter as Kochi's specific concept is very specific. I don't expect a person to get it as much as I do as somebody who is Asian. Specifically, the skewered items were a cool twist that I loved seeing. Loved the variety of cooking styles from raw, fried, seared, stewed and etc. Loved the Asian taste profiles applied to different concepts like the steak and desserts. I got their "rib eye bulgogi dosirak" which came over rice with a couple different banchan. I am unsure if they still do their lunch special as it was 14$ and it appears to be dinner only now but perhaps the site is messing up. Beef: Excellent. Good portion size. Not super sweet and the portion size was nice. Maybe a bit more sauteed onions? Sweet potato: Gogoma Jorim? It was braised in a sweet sauce so I believe it was this. Excellent though two small pieces. Cucumber/bean sprout: A bit lighter than most Fish cake: I believe it had a similar braising method to the potato. Good portion size for this. Came here on a Sunday evening as a group of 4 for dinner and really enjoyed our meal - from the cocktails to the ice-cream sandwich! The service was attentive and friendly, answering our questions about the food and menu. We sat inside by the window and it was a nice space - not too crowded and not too loud. The outdoor tables looked really nice as well and the sidewalk is big enough that it doesn't seem obtrusive. We opted to do our own beverage 'pairing' - starting with cocktails and then two bottles of wine (a red and a wine). And for dinner we all upgraded our bibimbap course with the sea urchin- which I highly recommend, totally worth the $10 supplement. They served us New Zealand sea urchin, which I've never had before and it was both creamy and had a sweetness to it. So good! The overall meal was nicely progressive, with a lot of different flavors. The first dish (pine nut) was my least favorite, as it seemed a bit bland, but it definitely picked up after that. I don't love when tasting menus haves lots of supplement options- if it's the chef's menu, then I want it to be just that, but that's probably a losing battle. Easily one of the best tasting menus I've encountered!! Came here with my family at a dining table outdoors--an unforgettable experience! Eats: This is a 9-course tasting menu with some add-one and supplements available. My family and I decided to add the abalone dish to share. Some of us supplemented the skirt steak for A5 wagyu, and some of us also added urchin onto the bibimbap. Every dish presented a glorious balance of distinct, obscure flavors. Our favorites were the monkfish (great outer crisp, the accompanying sauce was rich and decadent on its own), pine nut soup (so fun to eat!), skirt steak, A5 wagyu (insanely tender), and the black sesame ice cream sandwich (not too sweet, light and mild and acted as a great ending palate cleanser). Though most of these dishes were grilled, we did not feel too greasy or overly full after this tasting. This was just enough food!! Ambience: So so cozy!! The interior of Kochi is relatively small, and there is a lot more seating outside on the sidewalk and on the street. The restaurant is definitely well-kept, and everything seemed clean. There is also a bar inside--perfect place to bring friends to! Service: Service was seamless. All the staff were extremely careful and polite. They were always very alert and helped us get through our tasting menu quickly without much wait in between each course. Verdict? 5 stars, near perfection from start to finish. Wow what an amazing dinner. In general I am a fan of Korean food and flavors. Kochi takes this to a superbly modern and high level. I truly have not had anything like it. Amazing tasting menu and top notch service. Every dish was prepared so well and ingredients paired together perfectly. They don't have an alacarte menu which is likely by design and you don't need it. Just trust them. The portions are not overwhelming so you'll feel satisfied by your dessert (two desserts!) and not too stuffed but with enough to have tasted and enjoyed each meal. I really can't pick a favorite from the corn dog to the pork belly to even the soup in the beginning. They do switch out the menu every so often so enjoy what you receive! WOW! This place is great and totally deserves their Michelin star. Came here on a Monday evening (probably the last slot around 9p) and it was PACKED. I would soon find out the reason why. Ambiance: The restaurant is TINY. There's a bit of seating inside but they managed to have more seating outside (surrounded by heaters) and also some seating out on the sidewalk as well. We liked the vibe of the place. Service: Excellent! They had a really interesting model where different staff members kept filing to give us different dishes. They all had impeccable knowledge of the dishes. The restaurant also did a great job accommodating our dietary restrictions (we don't eat pork). Food: Just astounding. The food was excellent. Each one was unique and had a little fusion twist to it (leche de tigre, an ice cream sandwich). But the flavors were perfectly balanced and the dishes went very well with each other. I personally loved the crispy monkfish and trout. Even though it was a bit pricy ($125 per person up from $75 before the pandemic), I say it's worth it. Novio and I needed to make a reservation two weeks in advance in order to secure a spot at this coveted location. However, they often have last minute opening so definitely keep a close eye on their reservation portal through google reservations! We arrived on time for our reservation however our table was not ready therefore we had to walk around for a bit. If you would like to kill time BEFORE your reservation, head up to ink48 hotel rooftop bar, the press lounge, for AMAZING views of the city. Tip- dress to impress they do not allow ripped jeans or crop tops at that rooftop bar (more on that on their review page). Anyway, back to Kochi. The tasting menu was expensive, budget accordingly and plan to spend $450+ on two tasting menu and two drinks. I felt the ambiance didn't quite match the price however the taste of the food made up for it. I highly recommend a seat at the bar/kitchen as you can see your food being made and it is an excellent experience. I would not recommend the outside booths as you will miss out on a big part of what makes kochi so great, their open kitchen. The precision that goes into each serving is impressive and you are paying big bucks for the food, might as well enjoy the show too! I only go to Michelin starred restaurants these days because I'm fancy as f*ck (jk). Everything was outstanding. Highlights include the short rib, pork tenderloin, steamed turbot, and fried shrimp skewer. Loved that the final 8th and 9th courses of the tasting menu were both desserts. They were great too, especially the sesame ice cream. Service was superb. There was a platoon of like 3 or 4 different people serving us. The tasting menu is perfection. The plates are loyal to the original Korean palette but somehow manages to add in novel and complimentary flavors. I'm generally not a fan of Korean fusion as I find it overhyped and overpriced, but Kochi dishes had me wondering when the next, new tasting menu will be introduced (so I could try it). The dishes were simple but creative. Presentation and service were also superb. My friend and I were seated "outside" in 20 degree weather but we were fairly cozy. When a table closer to a heater opened up however, the staff graciously let us switch tables and moved everything over for us. Lastly, the server brought us delicious black sesame cream puffs in celebration of my friend's and my birthdays. I can see the 1-star Michelin in this place. It's a great Korean bistro. Here's the bad news: the red wine was WARM!! No no no, please don't serve your red wine warm. Kochi has been open for about 3 weeks and I only came about it after seeing them on Instagram. They're located in Hell's Kitchen, off the beaten path. The restaurant is currently BYOB so definitely bring your own drinks if you want to imbibe. The 9 course tasting is $75 with additional supplements such as caviar, truffles, and uni. We opted for the caviar and uni. We sat at the bar, which I think is more fun for this type of dinner. You'll be surprised at the chemistry the kitchen has considering they've been open for less than a month. Everything was delicious but my favorites were the jjimdak broth and pork belly bossam. And for dessert, the scorched rice ice cream was totally what I wanted. I've been to a lot of new restaurants lately and few have impressed me the way these guys did tonight. I heard about kochi through a google search and it interested me because it was run by a Korean chef. It is a busy Michelin star restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. It makes me cringe a little with the way it's pronounced, but the name isn't as important as the quality of service here. I was able to squeeze in a reservation on a Saturday evening the week of thanks to notification on resy. The quality of service and friendliness of the staff here was outstanding. The layout, furniture, decorations, lighting, utensils and table cloths were all well thought of. I knew I wanted the tasting menu before coming here. The waitress said there were abalone and wagyu dishes that were additional. I just went with the abalone which made the original 9 dish tasting to a 10 dish. I would say that I really enjoyed 5 out of the 9 dishes. I thought the pork tenderloin bossam was too bland and chewy. It was interesting but it was so westernized. The first dish and the last dish were my two favorite part of the night. Overall, this was a worthwhile visit. I would recommend this place. read more

I would give Kochi 3.5 stars (rounded to 4 stars). My best friend and I came for her birthday. The overall experience was great but had a few kinks. I made a reservation for two at 6:30pm at the chef's counter. Upon arrival, we were both seated immediately. The view at the chef's counter is great since we saw the process of the chefs making each dish in the tasting menu. From where we were sitting we saw the chefs making the pine nut and the ice cream sandwich. The only downside is if they sit you on the edge of the chef's table (as we were) you don't get to see the making of many other dishes. The waitress came and we both opted for the chef's signature tasting menu and added the abalone special. Before our first course arrived, I sipped on the pair of lillies cocktail. My best friend wanted to try a wine. Since her first choice of wine wasn't to her liking, my best friend tried to flag down the waitress for another glass. By the time she came back we were halfway done with our tasting menu and my best friend didn't want wine anymore. That brings me to our next comment on pacing. At the beginning of the tasting menu all our dishes came out consecutively with barely any time in between to appreciate each course. It seemed like we were being rushed to finish because the restaurant was busy. This is not how anyone wants to feel when they are paying top dollar for a tasting menu experience. Despite these hiccups, the service was friendly. The food was amazing. Everything is carefully thought out from the flavors, the textures, and the presentation. Some of our favorites from the menu include the pine nut, the spanish mackerel, the short rib, the urchin trout bibimbap, the abalone special, and the ice cream sandwich. The pine nut is an amazing start to the tasting menu where you pour a pumpkin soup into a bowl with a crispy meatball topped with caviar. The combination is sweet and savory and the contrast of textures from creamy soup to crunchy meatball topped with the salty umami of the caviar sets the tone for the rest of the tasting menu. The tasting menu ends with an asian rendition of an ice cream sandwich that is bittersweet from the combination of black sesame ice cream sanwiched between two pieces of green tea sponge cake making it a balanced end to a balanced tasting menu. It would take too long to write out why every dish in the tasting menu works, as each dish has so many elements as to why they taste good. A key thing that I would take away from the tasting is that Kochi knows how to combine the best elements of asian cooking and infuse western elements to create balanced dishes. TLDR; go to Kochi for the amazing food, but know that Kochi may rush your experience based on how busy they are. read more

An experience that is worth a visit where the good exceeds the meh. Upon walking in, we were quickly seated by the host. It's a small venue with a clean decor that had a few pieces to admire, but overall it doesn't feel like a high end restaurant and more align to the middle tier. It's a fixed $125 9 course chef tasting menu which made our decisions simple. Order some cocktails and wait for the dishes to stream in. Out of the 9 dishes, I enjoyed 5 of them. The stand out was the Spanish mackerel which was perfection. Tender and perfectly seasoned. I was disappointed with the short rib because the meat was tough and chewy and the sauce overpowering. Good: pine nut, shrimp, mackerel, bosom, ice cream sandwich. Meh: hwe, short rib, bibibap, froyo There is promise here and I do believe as they iterate, it will only improve. The service was professional as each dish was explained, even though it generally felt robotic in the delivery. They had a good amount of staff for the size of the restaurant but everything felt rush where they came in and out. Let's just say I had way better experiences where I've only dropped $100/person. After drinks, tax, and tip, we dropped $200/person here. At the end of the meal, I was glad I did it and was able to experience it, but I didn't take anything too memorable that would make me want to return. I'll start by saying, Kochi definitely earned its Michelin star! I had high expectations going in but they still managed to raise the bar. We reserved a table in the outdoor space - I was worried since it might not have adequate coverage since it was a lightly rainy night but we were well protected from the elements. For the food, you have two options to either do the longer 9 course Chefs signature menu ($125) or the 6 course Kochi tasting menu ($85). They have an optional Sool pairing or an extensive wine menu and shorter cocktail/beer/soju menu. We opted for the tasting menu and I was glad we did because I was stuffed by the end! Every dish had a modern twist while still staying true to the Korean roots. Standouts included the pine nut sweet pumpkin soup starter that was absolutely delectable. We also really enjoyed the spanish mackeral that was perfectly grilled. I also personally loved the bibimpap - I loved the many different textures including the crispy rice and the marinated beef tartar. Finally, the dessert was absolutely perfect and not too sweet. A special shoutout to our waiter Jesse as well who was very knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. The meal was perfectly paced and he made sure that our water and wine glasses were always full. Dining at Kochi has just convinced me that the Michelin guide is not accurate when it comes to Asian food. There is no way you can convince me that this meal was even remotely worth (after tax and tip) $175. There were only a few dishes that I would even eat again: the ice cream sandwich was incredible, probably one of the best desserts I have had in NYC. The halibut was nice and fatty and well seasoned and cooked; halibut is a great fish so you don't have to do a ton but this was still an improvement. The scallop was perfectly cooked. Everything else ranged from not well cooked (skirt steak) to poor tasting (potato souffle, uni bibimbap) to inedible (abalone). So, 3 good courses out of 11? Not a good look. I am amazed that Kochi is getting so many 5 star reviews; you can get better tasting Korean food for a fraction of the cost at many other places. read more

Came here for a weekend dinner with no reservation and luckily there was a table out front. The restaurant offer two types of tasting menus, I believe it was 6 courses or 9 courses. Note: only tasting menus are available so you cannot order a la cart. Dishes are normal tasting menu portions, I think this was a good amount of food. My favorites were: -pine nut: the squash soup comes separately and it's poured onto this savory cheese pastry, super savory and nutty flavor, refreshing for summer too! -short rib: this was one of the supplements that you can add on, since I went with a friend, one of us got the bossam (pork tenderloin), and the other one got short rib so we can try it. This short rib is very tender and it almost melts. -ice cream sandwich: I don't really like desserts that are too sweet so this ice cream being a little bit salty was perfect. I also really like black sesame flavor ice cream so I was really excited about this item and it did not disappoint. This review is long overdue, but we LOVED our dinner at Kochi. I really appreciated the ambiance of this place. It's a nice restaurant with amazing food, but doesn't feel pretentious or stuffy at all. The service was also great. I never had to ask for anything, it seemed like they just knew what we needed. For the food, every single dish was superb. We did upgrade the steak course to the Wagyu with truffle, which I highly recommend. I would go back in a heartbeat! read more

Was able to check off another Michelin off my list! Went to Kochi and had an amazing meal. The only option of the evening was the 9-course tasting menu for $125 - Don't mind if I do! 100% worth it. Each course was delicious and was served in a perfect order. My favorite courses were #1, pine nut, a pumpkin soup served over a fried spaghetti squash ball of yumminess topped with creamy caviar; and #5, bossam, a slow-cooked pork tenderloin topped with a cashew sauce & leafy kimchi. OMG it was the most tender pork I've ever had in my life; melt in your mouth! The service and wine pairings were also spot on. Super satisfied with my meal and evening. read more

I was so excited to try this restaurant, but sadly, it fell short of expectations. Service and presentation were all top notch but the food was nothing to rave home about. We got the 7 course meal for $85 per person. My favorites were the: Pine Nut Milk Soup, Crab Bibimbap, and the Cheesecake dessert at the end. I felt the portions were small and I wasnt full at the end of it (I'm a pretty small girl who gets full easily too). I finished some of the dishes in a couple bites. We also got a few tequila shots each - they have a great selection of alcohol. The food and drinks came out fast and service was great. Again, nothing special. read more
