I was turned onto this place by some coworkers and after that, I started to recognize their food trucks at local festivals. The Trasher plate is so good! And the portion is pretty large and fair for the price! There is limited seating inside but I've never had a problem finding a place to sit. It seems to be more popular as a take out restaurant than a sit down one. My online orders are always ready early and still warm and fresh when I pick it up! Also, I am not a fan of spicier foods and the Trasher plate is definitely mild where spice is concerned. read more

Its located in a tiny little area with a few restaurants and a parking nightmare to navigate in and out of. There's a little area in the restaurant that you order at. We got some items to go (may consider ordering ahead next time via phone so we wouldn't have to wait). We tried the trasher marino (love that they have their own version of the garbage plate that sounds so much more delicious) as well as a three roll combo that was chef's choice of the day. 4 stars for the trasher marino. Fish was fresh and it was a fun fusion dish. I'm glad I had it and it was fine considering Rochester doesn't have too much to offer in the ways of sushi. The other 3 rolls were unfortunately a bit disappointing (rice was hard) and the rolls were just okay. Wow.... if you haven't tried this place, you need to.... ASAP! Between the people that work there, the branding, and the food itself, it's a must try in the Rochester area. I'm always skeptical when restaurants remake their own version of the garbage plate, but this place knocked it out of the park! I got the Original Trasher Plate. This includes a base of sushi rice, topped with grilled steak, beer battered shrimp, bacon, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet bell peppers, fried garlic, onion crunches, and a bunch of sauces that are just out of this world. And all for $11!!! You can't go wrong if you decide to go with this dish. Due to COVID, you are unable to eat inside, which forced me and my buddies to eat out of the back of my Jeep. The workers are so nice, they brought us all ( 3 of us) free waters during our meal and let us know that they'd be opening up the seating in the next month (it's currently May 13th 2021). And I'll be back to take them up on it. If you want food that is a nice fusion between Japanese and Latin American cuisine, this is the place. I love the Stingray Sushifusion food truck so I was really happy when they opened a brick and mortar store! I ordered a pick up order from GrubHub of the pork dumplings and Pica Spicy Crab Roll. Both were delicious! The dumplings were fried well and had a lot of flavor. The roll was SPICY, and has sazón spice as well. So good. I'm used to "spicy" crab meaning "just barely warm" for most sushi, so the kick of flavor in this one was fantastic. I really love the fusion of Latin and Asian flavors in all of their rolls. One tip: the parking lot is small and shared with three other businesses, so parking might be tight depending on when you go. read more

Picked up an original Trasher for lunch, wow! I will be back, ate it all against my better judgement, no dinner needed. Need I say more?

Zero stars from the University of Rochester. We wouldn't know how the food is because they cancelled their food truck on the University of Rochester TWICE with no notice. These were pre-scheduled lunches with this food truck. The first time they no-showed without any warning and said we were supposed to confirm after we had already confirmed a month prior. This left dozens of nurses, doctors, and staff with no lunches. The second time they said to make sure to confirm with them one week prior. We have been calling, leaving voicemails and emails for one week with no answer. Finally one day before the food truck is supposed to come we get through to the owner and we state we are calling and have been calling for a week to confirm. He states that they are cancelling. He also states that another employee should've called to cancel. Well they NEVER DID. He had the email addresses and phone numbers of the staff organizing this and he could've emailed or called us to cancel but none of us have any missed calls or emails so we know he just never did. Once again our staff is left with no lunches and we are scrambling trying to make sure to reach out to everyone to bring their own lunch. How do you run a business this way? Why not tell us a week or a month ago?? Clearly you are having issues with staffing, professionalism, and the ability to communicate to your community. We work tirelessly in this medical institution to provide to our patients and we try to have fun lunches once in awhile and now have been left high and dry by this Stingray Sushifusion twice. The University of Rochester will not be using this company again. read more

I was introduced to this restaurant by a family member, and it's difficult to explain how amazing the experience of the food is! You'll have to try it to understand what I mean; you're welcome in advance. The Trasher Del Campo is my favorite dish. The ingredients are fresh, and the quality holds for leftovers. Additionally, the staff at Kocina privilege the quality of customer service provided as much as the quality of the food served. We had them yesterday for a fundraiser at the Webster Public Library. The thing with this truck is they can adjust to fit your dietary needs a plus with our group. I asked the cashier how long a wait for a roll, the line was small and I had to scurry, he said 5-7-10 minutes, it ended up being around 15 and missed my number being called over the din of music. I get what all the hype is about now! The sushi and rice are so fresh and delicious. But the best part is the unique flavors that you can't get anywhere else. We tried six of the eight sushi rolls on their everyday menu and they were all excellent! My favorite was probably the meringue which had plantains on top! I've been searching for Poke bowls in Rochester, and I have not found a great one yet. There was no customization available which was disappointing. The menu didn't list the contents and I don't like cucumber so that was a negative too. Also, the bowl had too much rice, and the rice was not cooked very well. It also wasn't sushi rice so not very sticky or moist. The pineapple was not ripe either. Finally, unless the food truck was out front, I wouldn't have been able to find Stingray because they are located inside a different Latin-Japanese restaurant. Now on to the good parts of my experiences. Service was quick and the staff was friendly. It was reasonably priced as well. My salmon was fresh and flavorful, and I could watch them make it in front of me. The avocado came standard which is a good perk to not have to pay extra. It was also in perfect eating condition! Too bad the pineapple couldn't be as ready to eat as the avocado. The mango was a nice touch as I always love to add mango to my bowl. Most people would say the same thing, "Sushi from a food truck. Are you sure?" But Stingray is a good call. They bring awesome latin flare to their sushi rolls and other dishes. I've tried several items from them, from their event catering to lunch downtown and at the food truck rodeos. Most recently, my friend and I shared their spicy tuna roll and the trasher plate. What I unexpectedly loved the most about the trasher plate was the crunch of the red pepper mixed in with the rest of the rice and sushi fixings. It's hearty too - comes with a bunch of stuff like scallions, jalapeños, tempura shrimp, beef, cucumber, bacon, tomatoes, peppers, etc. topped with some delicious creamy ginger mayo sauce and black seseme seeds. That will fill you up for dinner for sure. If I'm ordering a roll, I'll typically get just one because that's enough for me. Again, all hearty and filling dishes here. The flavor combos are cool and weird, but work! Next up, I'll be trying more of their fusion rolls and getting my hands on a japanada when they have it on the menu. read more

I ordered the Trasher Plate which is layers of battered shrimp, grilled steak, bacon, and an assortment of diced veggies on top of perfectly cooked rice. Iv'e never had a bad experience with this Food Truck...The only bad experience you will ever have is when you do not get to the food truck rodeo in time and they have sold out of your favorite roll when you are up to order. Most of the rolls I have ordered have come with tostones and I find it to compliment the dishes superbly...but I may be biased on this since i love fried plantains whether green or yellow! Best Sushi in Rochester hands down! We hired Kim and Rod to host a Sushi Making Class. The food was terrific and fresh and amazing! Their homemade Ginger Mayo is to die for! Very flavorful! The tuna steaks were so succulent and the black sesames and onion crunchies added a great texture. I have eaten at Stingray twice now. The concept is unexpected and interesting (Sushi-Dominican fusion). I don't think they use sushi rice in the rolls but that may be part of the fusion aspect. The Thai basil in the Spicy Tuna roll is a brilliant touch I will be stealing. The prices of the rolls are comparable to sushi restaurants but you seem to only get 4-5 pieces a roll vs the 6-8 you will get at sushi places. The fish seems relatively fresh and I did not suffer any ill effects or taste anything but delicious sushi on both my visits. The trash plate here is the closest thing to a garbage plate I have ever tried and it was delicious. The ginger mayo is so fresh and kickin with the ginger. The tempura shrimp was lightly fried and the beef was tender. It was full of crunchy and fresh veggies (cucumber, bell peppers, etc) which made the whole dish taste light. Overall, a great concoction. A little steep price wise at $9 but I would probably order this again. A friend tried the Yokoma Flan and said it was very very sweet. I would still like to try it sometime! I hope they will consider offering roll combos with a little price break to drawn in the lunch crowd. I will check them out again downtown one of these weekdays to sample more of their unique take on maki. read more

Their location is honestly a bit sketchy, so I personally wouldn't walk over there to pick up my food and the parking lot can be chaotic because of its shape and small size. That downside isn't their fault tho. Better to order ahead of time and be in and out quick so you don't get caught up in the parking lot mess.
