This is now my hot pot go to restaurant. I've been trying the ones in town and this is my favorite. It's clean (so many hot pot places fail on that basis), the staff is friendly and helpful, and the ingredients are fresh. This is one of the only, if not the only, hot pot place I know of in the area. The selection is smaller than other hot pots I've been to in other cities, but they have a solid selection of meats for BBQ and hot pot. We tried the spicy broth, which was excellent. Really good ma-la heat and numbing. The pork and beef were very good, my friend had the crab and enjoyed it. We were hoping for a few more options in the add-in bar, but they still had most of the standards and lots of sauces to choose from. As an update, I've been here many times since my previous reviews. They have changed their menu somewhat. I'm always a fan of the spicy malaa stir fry (though the taste is sometimes inconsistent; some days are more flavorful than others). This time, we tried the AYCE hot pot. $20 is for the serve yourself/bar area. You do have to pay extra for meat, which makes this a more pricey option than I expected. Expect to pay an additional $6-7 for each 10-12 pieces of meat which can add up. That being said, everything was clean and the sauce bar has a good range of options. The options here are less than other places I've been to (but can't fault a smaller town restaurant) but solid for when you're craving AYCE. read more

It's been awhile since we've been here. They've changed a bit. Now, it's $20 per person for hot pot (this includes your choice of broth and the buffet where they have sauces, noodles, eggs, etc). If you want meat or seafood to cook, those are charged separately. I'll say the seafood portions seem small. But the meat and chicken are a good value. I decided to order delivery to work for lunch. Everything arrived on time, hot and fresh. I ordered the Hot & spicy chicken combo (fried rice adn Veggie roll). The veggie roll wasn't as crispy as I like them, but it was good, good flavors to it. The hot and spicy chicken had a nice sauce, big chunks of peppers and onions, and plenty of chicken. I would have to say this was pretty mild for hot & spicy. I was expecting more kick to it but it was still good. The fried rice was very good, especially mixed with the sauce. Was super excited to try this place out as it's the only hot pot restaurant in Rochester. Service was decent and we had reservations so we were seated pretty quickly. It ended up being pretty cold inside despite eating hot pot. Each person gets their own individual hotpot so you don't have to share but I found that the sauces and the broth were lacking in taste. It's not bad for a hot pot place but definitely didn't have the taste or quality as other hot pot restaurants I've been to. I guess if you're craving hot pot, this is a decent option. Got to the restaurant around 830. Server comes over to our hot pot table around 845. I explain to the server we are a party of 6 and already ate dinner a few hours before we got to the restaurant in celebration of my younger brother's 41st birthday. My brother wanted some hot pot late at night and so here we are. The waiter incessantly insisted that we have to do the buffet option (buffet menu attached to this review) and that was our only option available. I reiterated that we all ate dinner earlier and we shall not be doing the buffet option due to not being hungry. I told the waiter we wanted to do the regular hot pot version that we have all done before. The waiter continued pushing the buffet hotpot and told us this was the cheapest way possible. I knew this to beuntrue as we have been here before. After he realized we are all too full for an ayce hot pot buffet he finally came back to the table with the normal menu and hands it to my brother, the birthday boy. Finally things are going our way until I ask for another regular menu to be told that is the only menu in the whole restaurant. Lies once again as I saw him grab it from a stack. They had a feeling I was going to snap pictures of the regular hot pot menu as I began snapping pictures of the buffet menu. My brother who had the regular hot pot menu ordered for the table. Even with him over ordering, it was still cheaper than the hot pot buffet option that the waiter was pushing. He order 3 different hot pots. My mother said the tom yum soup was too sour with not enough balance of sweet (we are Lao and we know this soup very well). My wife got the vegetable broth and said it was extremely bland. My brother said his spicy broth was not too bad, hence why it is 1 star and I did not start off with saying I wish I could give it 0 stars. Lily and I stopped by during our last Rochester trip. Both of us are vegetarian and love hotpot, so we were delighted when we saw their pricing allowed us to have an all veggie (no meat) feast, without having to pay the price for a meat forward hotpot option! For $19.99, we had an excellent veggie meal! The broth was flavorful and the veggies fresh. The hotpot station heat itself was easy to manage and I did not scald myself (happens way more often than I would like, tbh). The place was clean and service was good. Unlike several other places I have been to, other than the broth, everything was self service. I kinda appreciated this because I could get a little of something and a lot of something depending on what I liked and I wasn't wasting, which eas awesome. Love the hot pot, I'm a fatty. I love that I can have my own pot to dip, cook and do whatever I want to It. While my husband has his on the other side lol. I love that they have a sauce station, play around with the flavors and make yourself a nice dip for your meats! That's not It though, we eat ALOT because we don't have hot pot like this where we currently live. Whenever we find good spots, we take advantage of It. It can get pretty pricey but just watch how much you're ordering. You obviously don't have to be extra like we were lol. Basically if you've never been to a hot pot. I would definitely try It. The menu is pretty self explanatory, but you pick your soup base, which is what you'll be dipping your meats and veggies in. Think fondue, but not chocolate or cheese. My soup base was the spicy one, I liked It but I would've rather started with the chicken broth that my husband got, and developed the flavor of the broth more by adding all the stuff in. Because after a while I got tired of the one note spicy flavor. I liked his broth cause It was refreshing and compatible with all the stuff we got. After you pick your base, you have your meats, seafood, veggies, noodles, extras. These things can come in platters or small plates. While you're waiting, go up to the sauce station and experiment! Yummy Garden is my usual go-to spot for hot pot. It's also really close to where I live, which is nice when I am in the mood for hot noodle soups in the winter time. There is a small parking lot. It wasn't too busy when we came around lunch. Got seated right away. It's a decent sized restaurant, plenty of seats - hot pot or regular menu sections. Service was fast as well. We got the Yummy Special Platter, which includes supreme beef, fatty beef, fish tofu, flounder, seasoned beef sirloin, ham, chicken shiu mai, mushrooms, and clear rice noodles, for $56. For the broths, we got kim chi and tom yum (tom yum is delicious, highly recommend). It's a lot of food for two people. Perfect for the storm this weekend. read more

I like hot pot as the broth tastes good and you get a decent selection of items/veggies to choose from as part of the base hot pot charge. The meat is extra and steep in price and I would not suggest it. Most recently, the vegetables have become sparser and they provide mostly 3 or more types of noodles, cheap veggies and the seafood balls and other items are not good. The place has to be cleaned up as it seems to have gotten much sirtier lately and the upkeep is lacking. Additionally, given this is pretty much a buffet type of restaurant, we didn't appreciate the mandatory "tip" fee tacked on to the bill, especially when we never really saw the server other than when she first came and then again to get some dirty dishes. I would NOT recommend it given the high price for what you get and I would not go there again after I had gone ther numerous time over the past couple of years. read more

Order a type of broth. 2. Pot of broth is placed in front of you on a burner. 3. Add ingredients to cook in the broth. 4. Check out the sauce bar while your food cooks. 5. Enjoy your food! 6.Continue to add as much or as little food to the pot as you would like. The list of ingredients is endless and you are always able to order more later on. Don't worry about running out of liquid, the server will refill it without extra charge. The chicken broth hot pot comes with a vegetable platter which has a variety of ingredients (loved the tofu skin!). We also ordered rice noodles and brown mushrooms. This was plenty of food for two to share. The mango bubble tea was okay, I will probably try a different flavor next time. Overall- I definitely will return. This is the first and last time I will ever be going to this business. Me and a group of our friends had gone here to celebrate their 21st birthday, we were a decent group of 10 people. When the table was ordering food, I was not very hungry but I was purchasing food for my fiancée who had ordered a seafood hot pot and squid and after she ordered it was my turn to where I simply told the waitress I was not hungry and I wasn't going to be ordering food. From here the waitress pointed at my fiancée and then raised 2 fingers telling me I need 2 me not fully understanding I came to believe that her meal came with 2 hot pots so i chose to grab the chicken hotpot (which i did not eat at all, something they clearly saw because they were watching us the entire time.) It didn't take too long before everyone's food came everyone enjoyed their food as I sat and enjoyed a water. During our meal the waitresses and other employees were staring at our table one of them went as far as to stand 2 feet away from the end of our table watching us eat making all of us extremely uncomfortable. At the end of our meal it came time to pay for our meal the waitress brought us all our check. This is when I found out that I was, in my feeling tricked in to purchasing 2 meals which ran my bill up to nearly 70 dollars. I was going to say something to the waitress but it was our friend's 21st birthday so I didn't wanna ruin the event with my anger about the price so I paid and left. I do not recommend this place to anyone for the sole purpose of; I believe this establishment was trying to run up our bill to be able to then enforce the 15% tip they add to the end of the bill which was over $8. In my opinion they did not deserve this tip and the need to be much more clear about their ordering process; as well to not force unwilling customers to order a meal they had said they were not eating. Horrible customer service as well, the waitress was extremely rude and yelled at our other table of guests as well and actually went as far to put her hands on a guest and take his utensils out of his hands for quote "making a mess." My girlfriend's garden is particularly yummy, for the record. I tried their original milk tea, and I liked it a lot. The bubbles were fairly fresh, but it did also have a slight chemical taste, which is the only reason I gave them a 4 star rather than a 5. I did enjoy it though, and would probably stop back here for more, especially because I'd like to try the Hot Pot some time. My only HP experience so far was at Boiling Point in Amherst and I liked it, although it made me somewhat sick, which I'm embarrassed to admit. I like that a lot of the customers here for Hot Pot are Chinese. It suggests to me that it might be really good, and perhaps authentic. I'll give it a try one day. Ordered takeout from Yummy Garden with some coworkers for lunch. The menu is quite large, with a nice combo of typical Chinese takeout options and some other, more unique options. They also offer a variety of Thai dishes as well. I was in the mood for Thai, so I ordered the drunken noodles. They were delicious and the perfect level of spiciness. I was less impressed with the crab rangoon, which were flat and did not have a lot of filling. They tasted ok, but they weren't as satisfying as I'd hoped. Speaking for its ala carte noodle menu not the hot pot and barbecue- though, when that review will be.... will be hard to say, as I was a-ok about the food, giving it a 3-3.5 my first try here. Highlight: if you want something super spicy that actually is spicy, then come here. The portions are enormous for a good price (8.50$-10.50$) depending on the protein (tofu, chicken, pork, beef, shrimp). The style of cooking is borderline Chinese-Thai for Thai food and spicy Szechuan style for the Chinese dishes. Come here with a large group of friends to split dishes. They have a hot pot thing and a stir fry thing alongside the a la carte menu- we thought we were not hungry enough to order all the dishes. Plus, coming from Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Miami where most Hot pot places were unlimited, we weren't interested in ordering 2-3 types of meat for 2 people. You really have to bring a large group who are hungry and willing to spend if you want to have a comprehensive try of their hot pot/stir fry menus. Otherwise, it's 4-5$ for veggies and 6-9$ for proteins. You risk not liking the cut of the meat but being stuck with that portion and price you paid for, so that's why we did not go for the hot pot this time. Dishes we ordered: 1. Panang curry with chicken. Like Americanized thai places around the US, the curry is soupy and heavy in coconut milk (not the creamy rich kind but just very soupy). Chicken was tender and it came with the typical peppers, carrots, potatoes, etc depending on your curry. Masamum is always creamy and mild. Red and Green are usually more bell-pepper in taste. Point being is, I think they use the same broth base and just pour it over the different curry spices and throw in the meats and foods just like most Thai American places. The taste is good, but not authentic. It reminds me of the 7.99$ lunch deals you can get at Thai restaurants in Florida. BUT the curries here are actually spicy.. don't drink that coconut curry soup unless you actually can take spicy. 2. Shrimp dumplings- I was not too impressed with this dish. We came from Philly where they have a place called Dim Sum Garden-- well really, all dim sum places in China town there make their dim sum from scratch. This dim sum was clearly either frozen foods steamed or just poor quality cheap shrimp- the shrimp was soggy and made of flour based and the wrapping was clearly frozen in variety. Not worth the 5.50$ to be honest- go home and steam some frozen ones yourself. 3. Spicy basil udon dishes- This dish was SPICY. and noodle heavy. One of these dishes can feed 2-3 people or a very very hungry person. If you're not someone who is used to real asian spice, I would ask the waitress to make note of making this dish less spicy. We ordered the tofu one- crispy tofu outside and firm on the inside. Get this dish if you want something oily, high in noodles, low in other content, and to share with people. It is a massive dish that my husband and I could not finish and considered taking it home to warm up later. We decided against it b/c any spicy dish re warmed is always spicier, and also, we weren't impressed with this dish either.
