Subject: Urgent Concern Regarding Service, Inventory Accuracy, and Manager Conduct at Kohl's Thousand Oaks Dear Kohl's Customer Service Team, I am writing to report a very troubling experience at your Thousand Oaks location on January 21, 2026, at approximately 3:00 PM. Before visiting the store, I checked the Kohl's website for a photo frame I wanted to purchase. The website clearly showed the item as available at the Thousand Oaks store, and I took a screenshot to confirm this. When I arrived, I searched the photo frame section but could not find the item. I then went to the front desk for assistance. The associate was busy, so I asked to speak with a manager. The manager, Dyana, did not properly check the store's inventory and told me to order the item online for store pickup. I followed her instructions. Within 30 minutes, I received both a text message and an email saying my order was ready for pickup -- which proves the item was in the store the entire time. Because of this, I had to make an unnecessary second trip back to the store. This situation caused me significant stress. I felt physically uncomfortable afterward, including a headache and overall body discomfort, due to the frustration and the extra effort required. In addition, the manager's behavior was unprofessional and unacceptable. Used to be my go-to. But Kohl's has changed--bad for customers (maybe good for stockholders). Today I found the cashiers to be surly and unhelpful. The change in store policies is difficult to keep up with. I've found the Ventura store to be more helpful. This brand of rude (and more than competent and enforcing all of Kohl's mandates) is enough to keep me away. I don't understand how this store doesn't have a evening/event dress section. Ventura does, Valencia does, but not this one. Do we not all have weddings to go to, formal events, baby showers, bridal showers etc throughout the year? Why isn't there a formal or fancier dress area I was so disappointed. Went to Kohl's in Newbury Park ready to shop for the day. Waited in line for 30 minutes to return something, walked over to the register to make a purchase where there was only one cashier, and had an issue. Kohl's should be ashamed of their "coupons" and "customer appreciation days". They purposely confuse customers by putting multiple supposed "discounts " that only apply in certain circumstances and the customer has now way of following the actual price of an item until getting to the cash register and God help you figure all of it out if you are buying multiple items. Waiting in line to do an Amazon return and was blown away by the level of customer support that Zach was providing the elderly women in front of me. She wasn't sure how to do the return part and he helped her every step of the way, showed her how, gave her excellent tips for next time and even had her laughing at his jokes. Be careful of your Kohl's account data. Our son's account was hacked and used at this store by a senior citizen using a "senior discount" in or around August or Sept this year. Of course in spite of the receipt and transaction number, no one knows anything and corporate decided the purchase wasn't fraud--even though he's not a senior citizen. Our son being who he is, decided, "well, someone old might have needed something" and paid the bill anyway--closed his account and put his card into a shredder. In talking to our community we've discovered a lot of people being charged for purchases at this store who didn't actually make them. Be careful. read more

Let me start off by saying that every time I go into this location, l am ignored and I feel that I have eyes on me throughout my entire visit. Employees walk past us and say nothing. No greeting or anything. My mom and I were at Sephora and we NEVER were asked if we needed assistance. I'm Hispanic and I'm not sure if it's about race but as soon as a white customer walked in she was greeted by one of the associates. We were standing by the register trying to find a perfume and the associate at the register completely ignored us. Then I was standing by the sales end cap and another employee walked by me and said nothing to me. The only person who greeted us was the cashier when we were about to leave. She spoke Spanish and I asked her what was the name of the store manager. I called and a male answered and I told him about the experience we had and the conversation got nowhere. I told him that if this continued, I would take it to the higher up. We are not thieves and if we don't dress up to their liking, oh well. That doesn't mean we don't have money. I can't even look around comfortably because I am being watched but not greeted. I have many years of retail experience and I have been trained to not hover over the customer because they end up feeling like they are being watched. If you want to watch me, do it in the office (if you're not already doing that) let me shop in peace! Also, when you ask about signing up for a kohl's card, if a customer says no, then quit asking. I'm completely confused by the other reviews. If you're coming to Kohl's, you're looking for a bargain, need something quick, or have realized that they are the best deal in town. I've worked in corporate America my entire adult life. I've felt the pressure to dress a certain way, wear certain brands, or appease a mistress before going out for a big night. But it doesn't really matter. I'm still wearing $20 pants to business meals and closing $100M deals in our local community. So your options are as follows: - Shop at kohl's for great values for the whole family - Get jealous of someone in major debt with a better car/house - Show off to someone younger who is probably unemployed Bottom line: Most people I know shop at this Kohl's. I really like this location and think they have really cute juniors/young women clothes but I have to say ONE thing. I've worked in retail for 11 of my 30 years on this planet. 10 of those years have been at a retailer that also sells a paid membership, a rewards program, and a credit card. It has always been frustrating for me when I'm behind the register when a customer is rude or offended that I ask if they want a membership, or if I tell them they'll save something if they sign up. All I need is a quick no thank you and we will move on, no problem. There is a woman who works in the store at the register who I always try to avoid but I end up at her register every time. She asks if I have whatever, I say no thank you. She asks again. Another no thank you. After the third time I told her that I wasn't going to sign up but if I came in soon and decided to sign up, I'd find her (this is retail language of saying 'I know you don't want to ask me this question but you literally have to and I know they're putting tons of pressure on you to do so'). She said something like "Why wouldn't you just do it now then?" She wouldn't stop and was being really aggressive and pushy to the point where I had to literally tell her I don't mess with credit cards. In a span of 5 or so minutes, I declined at least 10 requests of hers to sign up for the credit card. Once it became clear to her that I wasn't going to, I felt like she was dismissive and clearly agitated with me, like she took it personally. As I mentioned previously, I work at a retailer who pulls this scheme and I know for a fact these retail credit cards are bogus. Your data is not safe, the interest rates are through the roof, and if you say you're interested, you then have to stand at the pinpad and type in your social, your annual income, your other credit card numbers, your marital status, everything you need to apply to a credit card(not just Kohl's...they're all scams meant to gather and sell your personal info). Also mentioned previously, I've worked in RETAIL my entire life and am uninterested in a cc, and more importantly, would absolutely not be approved for a cc, and I shouldn't have to tell the cashier at Kohl's that just to get her to ring my stuff up and take my money. I'm not saying her name here because this isn't a problem of hers, it's the fault of the company for putting so much emphasis on data collection. I like their stuff and their Amazon return situation is awesome but it sucks when the final impression you get is that they're pissed you didn't sign up for a credit card with a 31% interest rate. read more

This store doesn't seem quite as efficiently run as the Moorpark one. Of course this is a few days before Christmas, and shoppers have ransacked the various departments. It was difficult to find some items due to people putting merchandise haphazardly down wherever they happened to be. I can imagine the nightmare it must be to straighten out the store each night after closing. Some of the departments still have lots of choices and sizes. Others are getting thin. It's hit or miss. The boys' 8 to 20 department didn't have much to offer, sadly. Housewares has lots and lots of holiday kitchen towels! If you need some, you can really stock up. ;-) Was able to find items for most on my list in one fell swoop. At check out time, they had multiple registers open, so the process went pretty quickly. I had to go back for gift receipts, as the cashier forgot to hit that button. Once I stowed the purchases in the car and went back, he was able to scan my receipt and print out the gift ones. No biggie! Am grateful to have most of my Christmas shopping done. read more

AAA+++ Wow, the kind woman (perhaps she is the store manager) noticed me helping my elderly father out of the car, she imideatley offered help and arranged to bring us wheel chair to use while we shopped, I was greatley impressed by the brimming full stock of small kitchen appliances. I could not say the same for their competitors in the area and at the neighboring mall. My hands are full now shopping, I truly can write so much more, I never knew of kohls having only moved to the area 4 years ago, but I can see, they are old school with regards selection and organized well laid out merchandise displays. If time is precious to you I can say come here for your clothing and other shopping needs. Kohl's is the new Mervyn's, and it has no place in my life. Target, yes. Walmart or Kmart, if need be. Kohl's falls in the "skip it" category, along with JcPenney. What is it good for? An occasional $10-15 t-shirt (when Costco or Target won't do), and shopping for a child or infant. Oddly, Amazon has started using Kohl's for free returns. Unfortunately, you park near the front and have to walk thru the entire store to the back customer service counter. Guess that's planned, a little lookee-loo shopping while you pass thru. I had never been there before & because we had bought stuff from Amazon we needed to return we went to Kohls & I fell in love. The staff is wonderful & kind. I found jeans that actually fit and are not the hideous high rise as they go to my chin because I'm short waisted. They are so comfy I have now bought 4 pairs & even at full price are a crazy bargain. I normally buy Ralph Lauren but their sizes since I've lost so much weight are huge even in the smallest size. The kohls are fantastic & so comfortable. They carry Levi's, LC Lauren Conrad, Wallflower, & SO I own all 4 & they are so comfortable I forget I'm wearing pants & they are not around my ankles as they have stretch & fit perfectly! They carry many popular name brand products from clothing to electronics and everything in between. I have been shopping here for many years and have never had a bad experience. I have been a regular customer of Kohl's in Newbury Park since they opened and have made lots of great purchases over the years but this store, in particular, has gone downhill, especially in the shoe department where there is ZERO help and assistance. In fact, the entire shoe department is an unorganized mess and 3 times I tried to buy sneakers and shoes but yesterday was my last visit to this store. When you finally find a salesperson who is available they are polite and try to help but it is obvious they are way understaffed. I understood during the height of the Covid crisis but we are past that now and have seen no improvement in the way this store is being managed. Inventory is low and everything is ONLINE, well if I wanted to buy ONLINE I would, the purpose of a retail store is to have stock and salespeople to help, especially when the person is disabled. I enjoy shopping here, except that why they only have one entrance and exit when there used to be two before COVID makes no sense. Now customers must pass each other in close quarters. And eliminating an entire side of cash registers forces more customers to queue closer together. So instead of spreading customers to two sides, people are all concentrated together on one side. read more

Another horrible experience with the one of the staff. This time Liza in customer service was extremely passive aggressive. I was returning items purchased online and had all the packing slips which clearly gave the barcodes for the returns yet she was asking me to pull up my email with the order number (that was clearly on the shipping receipts). I was trying to help her locate the barcode on one of the tags for another item I was returning and again, passive aggressive, stating, "I know where it is." Thai review only relevant if you have a Kohl's credit card. They report you to credit agency if your bill is over 30 days and less than 60 days overdue. I manually paid this bill and over course of 7 years I paid a few days late 3 times . This alone ruined my credit for a home loan.. Kohl's will NOT retract anything from credit bureau even if you've been a loyal customer for decades. I was shocked and saddened. I have impeccable credit outside of this.. I had to return an Amazon item and got a 25% off coupon. I decided to look around at pants and jewelry even though it was Friday and I was pretty tired. Found some jeans and earrings. When I took them up to the counters the cashier, Jacob, was immediately friendly. He helped me put my order in my Kohls card even though I didn't have it with me. He reminded me a couple of times that the alarm may go off due to the jewelry, but not to worry about it. He was friendly, talkative and helpful. When I left the alarm didn't go off and he was very excited. We gave each other the thumbs up and I was very pleased with my experience. I left felt happy and energized! Around Christmas I really hate fighting the crowds and finding parking at the malls over and over again. Kohl's is shopping worthy for a few reasons- tons of stuff on their website, avoid the malls, and Kohl's cash is offered a couple of times a year which really does get you free stuff. What I have purchased from Kohl's in the past- photo frames, fashion jewelry, NCAA fan merchandise, a Keurig coffee maker, a pair of summer wedges, and a handful of clothing items that don't have a long life, but satiate my trendy urges for a season. read more

Clean store, well stocked, friendly people. I went in to buy some levis jeans and couldnt find a listed price, only a buy one get one half off signs on all the jeans. Sounded like a good deal so i picked up two pairs instead of the one i came in for. When i was getting rung up i had to say at least 4 times that i didn't want to sign up for a kohls charge card, despite the 20 percent i would save, etc. When i got to my car i realized i didn't even know how much i'd just spent because i had to answer so many questions about memberships. The first pair of jeans was 58 dollars, so i looked on my phone and found them at macy's for 39. Two pairs at macys would be cheaper overall than buying two pairs at kohls even when the second one is half off. I went back in and explained that they were cheaper at macy's, and they started telling me that if i signed up for a kohls charge card it would end up being the same. This Kohl's location is okay, however I am giving it one star due to the employees who stand at the entrance and monitor who comes in and goes out. Being asked if you're doing a return the minute you walk in is a bit off-putting. I know where the return counters are located (it's pretty obvious) and I don't need direction from one of their (way too many) employees. Also, I did not like how one of the ladies was looking at me when I arrived or left. She was staring at me as if I was going to or had shoplifted. I have never and would never do that, let alone at a discount department store where everything is cheap already. She kept staring at me as I walked out of the store and I got a weird feeling from her. Just because I was in the store for a little over an hour and did not purchase anything does not mean I shoplifted. I prefer the security at Target. I seriously cannot believe what a mess the shoe department is these days. I went in there last week and saw that it was a mess so I didn't even bother. I thought maybe they just had a busy day and needed to get it straightened up. So, yesterday, needing to buy some new walking shoes, I decided to check it out again since I have a coupon for -15%. What a disaster. I've never seen a Marshalls or Ross look this bad (and they're usually pretty bad but you expect that in those kinds of places). In one row, there was ONE pair of shoes on display on top. I actually liked those shoes but it was not marked with any description. So I started digging through the boxes down below but never found that particular shoe. The boxes of shoes had no rhyme or reason to their organization. One row was full of orange Nike boxes but no 2 models were together. If I happed to look into a box and find something I wanted, trying to find that same model in my size was nearly impossible. I tried to find a way to write the corporate office about this - no luck. They must've gotten tired of all the complaints 'cause there's no way to write to them about a given store's condition. The manager of this store should be written up then fired if things don't improve. And the regional manager in charge of this store should get a clue. The sale rack at Big 5 in the ghetto is WAY more organized than this store's shoe department. read more

When this chain of stores first opened, I had no use for them. I thought, what's all the fuss about? Then I started to investigate, first the handbags, then jewelry, then the home decor and kitchen depts. Well, add in the coupons, and especially the sales, and I fast became a fan. The reason for only 3 stars is because I'm not totally sold on their clothing depts., but all the others, I love it, and I've gotten some really great deals over the years. Always a good deal at kohls. Many brands to choose from. Woman's selection is better than the men's. Coupons in the mail often for 15-30% off. Kohls cash, Black Friday get $15 for every $50 spent.
