    Torched sushi, unagi and tuna
    Janice Y.

Wow! Inari sushi in Kensington Market! Yes... go there for a snack or meal. You won't be disappointed. They have a cozy patio, brimming with customers on the weekend. It was scorching hot that day, so we dodged the heat and chilled inside with the AC instead. A few small tables at the back inside, it's quiet as it's just us. We got the combo inari sushi with three pockets and added some spicy dumplings for $1 for all together I think under $20? What a deal for such intricate handcrafted pieces. We got the unagi, tuna and torched salmon. It taste just as good as it looks my friends! The tuna probably taste even better than it looked as I'm not as used to such grey tuna, but don't fret, it tastes still fresh! I suggest a combo meal for six if you want a full dinner for two. It left us enough room to sample the streets of Kensington Market.

By chance we walked by this relatively new small restaurant in Kensington Market and decided to do a take-out. Although they had nice-looking photo menus to show what their pocket sushi (or "inari" pockets) looked like, we had nothing to go by to know the quality or taste, so we opted to try a set menu to avoid disappointment, although we added 2 extra individual piece (Abri Salmon + Truffle Mushrooms?) as we weren't sure if the set alone wasn't enough. Koi Lover for 2 we selected was comprised of 6 pcs of pocket sushi, plus miso soup, takoyaki (6 balls) and house salad. The salad was big enough for 2 people and was both aesthetically prepared and was refreshingly varied in taste. At first, the takoyaki did not look good (black and small) but actually tasted quite good. Their signature pocket sushi, Scallop and Unagi, which were FANTASTIC! Aburi Salmon was fresh and tasty too. In fact, all ingredients used were fresh, skillfully put together and tasted delicious. In retrospect, we probably didn't need the additional pieces but were glad to be able to sample a few others. They were all better than any inari-pockets we had ever tasted outside of Japan! A very good value for the money. The staff were very friendly and service was fast and attentive. Although we didn't dine in, it looked like the place was very clean and well-cared for. We'll certainly return for more. Highly recommended. (*note: photos are taken at home after we unpacked the takeout box.)

I was looking for a place to eat with my partner and hesitated in front of this establishment, only to be invited in by one of the employees. Decided to try something new, and we ended up splitting a combo, which was a fantastic idea. We got the Combo #2 and some Shrimp Tempura. It's probably the best Shrimp Tempura I've had. I definitely recommend coming here, and I recommend trying the Chessy Crab, Alioli Tuna, & Butaniku Miso Pork options. Sitting indoors is recommended as well as it is a quaint and cool interior. There are bathrooms available located down a set of stairs, individual one person type. Very clean.

I am not a sushi fan, but joined friends here anyway. Friends were impressed with the pocket sushi. In particular the pumpkin sushi was a big hit. A cute little place, reminds me of the small street stores in Japan.

    Combo with 10 pieces

Came here for dinner with a friend on a Thursday night and we were seated on the patio. Ordered the combo with 10 pieces to share - a perfect amount for two. Our combo came with 2 miso soups and takoyaki. The pieces were fairly large and very filling, great assortment as well. These are essentially very large sushis wrapped in Korean tofu skin. My favourite was the grilled eel - delicious! Service was also great and speedy - would definitely be back!

This was my first time having pocket sushi. Yelp had randomly recommended it as I went in search for good food in Toronto. I was torn about coming here because I'd seen so many other good restaurants on Yelp & Eater. I chose to abandon all else and make the trek to Kensington Market. I ordered the Guacamole, Scallop Fantasy, Stamina Unagi, Spicy Torched Salmon, Bulgogi Teriyaki, Cheesy Crab, the Hot & Sweat and a bottle of Sapporo. The food presentation was so enticing and I could see gold flakes atop each delicately prepared pocket. In my mind I rubbed my hands together in anticipation, and from the first bite of the Guacamole pocket, I knew I'd made the right choice. Everything was superb. I added a bit of the Magic sauce on top with a sprinkle of the S&B Nanami Togarashi Chili Pepper on top. It was pure heaven. I literally closed my eyes while I indulged. I ate a bit of ginger in between bite which I'd recently been taught from a very experienced Omakase chef. My least favorite was the Scallop Fantasy & Stamina Unagi so I ate the fish off the top and opted to order 2 more of my favorite, that Spicy Hot & Sweat!!!! This was a pocket of the purest food pleasure. I will forever remember this sushi, simply mouth watering. The hostess, Anna, was very sweet, kind, attentive and a ray of sunshine! You must come try this little pocket of Japan in Toronto. I'll be back every time I touch down in the city. Y U M M E R S in the T U M M E R S !!!!!!

There were three add-ons (toro with caviar $25, uni with caviar $35, and caviar sushi). I opted in for the toro and uni add-ons. It was strange they give you the add-ons before any other nigiri. Everything was very good and fresh. Standouts for me was the appetizer, all three cuts of bluefin tuna, the lobster (by far my favorite), and the hotaru ika. I would've appreciated knowing that the omakase included or not included toro and uni before I decided on the add-ons but I don't regret it. It was a splurge night after all. Service was very attentive. Note that the dining space is very small. 12 seats around the counter and two tables. There was a very loud gentleman two seats from me who never learned to use his inside voice and totally ruined vibe. But that's not on the staff. Another note is that gratuity is automatic on the bill.

The space itself leans more modern and clean rather than the typical dark, cozy izakaya vibe, which I actually didn't mind. It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. The beef fried rice was straightforward but satisfying, one of those dishes that's easy to keep going back to between everything else. Drinks were a nice touch too.. refreshing, nicely presented, and added to the overall experience. Overall, this feels like a solid spot for a casual night out with friends. It's not overly traditional, but it's easygoing, shareable, and comfortable.. the kind of place you'd come back to when you just want good food and a relaxed atmosphere.
