Everything was decent, though I've had more flavourful curry udon elsewhere. They did have actual wasabi as well. First visit to Tokyo Kitchen at the recommendation of a friend. The standout items for me were the pork katsu and salmon & scallop sashimi. The pork was fried so well, and it wasn't dry at all on the inside, nor was it covered in sauce. The sashimi was also quite fresh! The bento boxes might not look like large portions, but trust me, it is very filling, especially with a generous portion of tempura. Their tempura batter reminded me more of fish & chips I would say, in that it wasn't as light/panko-flaky as most tempura that I've tried before. My friend opted for the shrimp croquette (again, fried to perfection and super creamy inside) and the sukiyaki udon, which looked so comforting on a chillier night. Service was attentive, with our server coming by regularly to refill our water and check in. Me and my friends went for lunch after having rehearsals, and this was an awesome lunch spot to go to! The prices were very good for the amount of food we got, and I love that they also served japanese sweets! I ordered the omelette curry and it was so good; the curry was the right level of spice and the omelette wasn't overcooked. I will definitely say get the stewed beef with it because the stewed beef was so soft and had alot of flavour. The service was quick, and the servers were so polite, I will definitely come back here again. Solid place for a bento box, relax and good amount of food for a reasonable price. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here if you are out of town, but if I was here for a while or lived locally, this would be a regular spot if I wanted to feel satiated. We got the pork katsu bento which comes with rice, salad, miso soup, sashimi, and shrimp & vegetable tempura. The miso soup was solid, I didn't bother touching the salad knowing the task at hand. I was nervous if the sashimi at first but it was fresh and good. The scallops were large and sweet. The tempura and katsu were fried and strained so it didn't sit in a pool of its own grease. The pork was cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside and moist inside. If you are somehow still hungry, there is a gelato place next to the restaurant to hit up for a nice dessert before you roll back home. read more

4.5 imo but we'll round up :). Came here on a Thursday night so it wasn't really busy. The storefront doesn't actually look that big but there's actually a lot of seating in there. Ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry (15.90), Shrimp Creamy Korokke (3.90), and to my surprise that they had - a glass of Asahi Black (8.90). I actually really enjoyed everything. The katsu was cooked just right, portions were on the large side, comes with a little salad. The korokke was probably my favorite thing I ordered. It's kind of fried to the texture of the katsu but is really creamy inside, quite nice! Food overall I'd probably give it a 4 but extra 0.5 for Asahi black offering. Past by here multiple times as from the front it was never anything "special". This was easily a big mistake. Skimmed through the menu and saw many familiar Japanese dishes so decided to give it a shot. Opted for chicken curry, soba with assorted tempura, and original and corn kuroke. Curry was well portioned and extremely flavourful. The chicken katsu was meaty, crunchy, airy and light which complimented the curry well. Soba was wheaty as you'd expect and the tempura was crispy and airy. Both kuroke had an excellent shell but definitely the corn was the better of the 2. If you love Japanese food and you're in Canada, this place is the place to go. I ordered the tonkatsu pork dinner and the pork was so delicious. I also ate a small salad that came with it but I don't eat anything else Japanese so I gave it all away. I can't say anything good about the meal set - the miso soup was salty, the rice was hard and low quality (taking into account the price), a drip of dressing on the salad, and no sauce for the chicken which is very dry and tough. I was hungry but couldn't finish the meal because everything is so dry. I was told there is no sauce for the chicken and I had to request for mayo to consume 1/3 of the chicken. I have been to tokyo kitchen many many times, and I only order one thing from there; the tendon katsudon, which is the shrimp tempura, with pork/chicken katsu over rice. The portion I think got a little smaller than pre-pandemic, which imo its fine, the flavors is still amazing, the rice is soft and in sweet soy, the tempura is so crunchy but the shrimp inside is so soft, i love to eat with pork katsu (i think its better than chicken), ask them for some japanese spice powder, and put it on top, 10/10. why 4 stars? i think they dont really know how popular they gets, people tend to stay there for SOOOOOOOO long since there is no sitting restrictions, and they are giving 4 people table to single person, it is a individual merchant's choice which I respect, but it greatly reduces their efficiency and I have seen customers left because they didn't want to wait. read more

I absolutely loved their salmon miso bento box ($18) which came with rice, fresh salmon sashimi, salad with a Japanese sesame dressing, a large portion of mixed tempura (including shrimp tempura, sweet potatoes, different veggies), and of course, the miso marinated salmon. Came for late dinner around 9 PM on a saturday and it was completely empty. Which was good because we needed about a dozen seats and it was easy to accommodate. I haven't been to the old location but I like the decor here, including the seemingly half-furnished benches along the wall which gives it quite an interesting feel in contrast to the rest of the interior. This is a very cute and well decorated place that is within walking distance to Bloor Yonge station. I loved the couch seating with the nice pillows and modern lights on top. This place has a cozy and modern vibe. They offer good lunch specials, which are a little pricy at about $16 and up for a bento box. I got the salmon bento box, which comes with sashimi, salad, shrimp and vegetable tempura as well. It was pretty good and tasted fresh! Bonus star for friendly service.
