PLEASE READ!! Don't listen to any of the negative reviews and don't let them make you shy away from this incredible food spot. FOOD - As someone who has lived 4 years in Japan, this is without a doubt the best sushi I have ever had in America. My wife and I both order the Omakase (chef's choice) for $65 a piece. It came with all types of fish including uni (sea urchin) and unagi (eel), which my wife does not like one bit, and she said she loved it! SERVICE - If you know about Japanese culture, you know that giving someone space and letting them have time to themselves is an important part of the dining experience. However, don't let that confuse you with their efforts. They put forth as much effort as anyone to provide everything you need. AMBIANCE - This shop is small (only seats 12) so you will need a reservation in advance. If you show up and do not have one, don't be surprised if you are not seated. Yet, with the small setting, you are given access to watching chef Hiro work his magic, up close and personal. This is one of the many places my wife and I have gone on our honeymoon here on Maui and we cannot recommend them enough. If Hiro or any staff reads this, from Josh and Patricia お疲れ様でした!!

Sashimi platter was delicious. Ok value. Everything is pricey in Maui, so this kind of tracked. Small restaurant, so make reservations well in advance. The miso soup was also great with flavorful mushrooms and tofu that melted in my mouth.

So worth it. I thought this might have been my best meal in Maui. I ordered to omakase and it was solid, and not badly priced. All the fish tasted delicious and the rice was good. I called to make reservations on the second day of the month and they were already booked for the week I was in Maui, but asked if I would like to be on wait list, I agreed and was called one day to be informed they had a slot that day and the next if we wanted it, so glad we went.

A must visit every single time I am on Maui. Koiso = oishi! Call on the first day of the month prior to the month in which you would like a reservation. 12 piece omakase nigiri sushi for $58 is a steal especially for this level of quality and the skill of the chef/owner. I'll be back!

Wow this place is Amazingggg. The best sushi I've ever had in my entire life. The fish is so fresh, melts in your mouth, and it's all paired so beautifully. I suggest getting the chefs special that way you get a taste of everything. I don't think you can get anything bad here. The restaurant itself is very small, personal, and mellow. It's very romantic. It's a little tricky to get a reservation as you have to call and plan about a month ahead. But overall I would suggest this place to anyone

We made our reservation 1 month in advance. Although arriving on time, there was a 15 minute wait. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming, with a cozy lit bar that seats 10, it set the perfect tone for the evening. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about the food they were serving. The sushi was exceptional, each piece was expertly prepared by the kind, elderly owner. Obviously fresh, and beautifully presented. The chef's selection omakase was a standout, offering a perfect balance of flavors and textures. Each piece tasted like butter! This place is a true gem for sushi lovers and anyone who appreciates high-quality, authentic Japanese cuisine. I'll definitely be back and recommending it to all my friends!

First time visiting this sushi bar and will be my final time. Customer service was terrible. 1. Reservation was set for 730pm didn't get seated til almost 8pm. I had to get the host attention at the door to seat me. Mind you my reservation was only for one person which was me. Once i confronted the hostess about my reservation and clearly told her I made a reservation she proceeded to give me a paper to write down my information and tell me "we're completely booked" when clearly there was one empty chair. Ps i was the only minority (latino) in the restaurant besides the owners (yikes) 2. The one woman who is the waitress she only tended to me twice mind you i sat there for almost an hour and half lol. She only asked what i wanted to drink and what i would like to eat then provided me my food and check that was it. 3. The sushi was mid it didn't melt in your mouth. personally I had better sushi else where. Overall I would never eat here again. if you are a regular and "white" sure go ahead but if you are latino like me Idk I just felt I wasn't treated as well as the others.

Dear Chef Hiro-san, Koisi Sushi Bar was a sublime experience. We ordered the 69 roll, the spicy tuna roll, a rainbow roll, and a salmon avocado roll. Thanks to your hospitable wife and other serving staff, our drinks were served to us alongside a complimentary order of edamame. Thank you! I loved the intimate seating and cool Maui vibe of your lovely establishment. The 69 roll was melt in your mouth savory. It was my favorite of the night. The spicy tuna roll was flavorful and fresh. I loved the lack of sauces as it let the tuna play the starring role. The rainbow roll had plenty of fish eggs in top which added a salty crunch to the bites. The salmon avocado roll was incredible too. You made a salmon fan out of me. The sushi was so fresh and vivid I kept eating so I could stay in these edible moments as long as possible. The fruit palette cleanser was also appreciated. It is with gratitude I express our immense appreciation for our dinner. We will always visit when we come to Maui. With warmth and light, Jacque and Joe

Two Japanese men greeted us and took our order. We ordered our meals and sat down in the open outdoor seating. They didn't have Coke Zero/Diet Coke so we had to go to the convenient store down the road. Our food came out and it was amazing! 4/5 Chicken kaarage - just the right amount of salt and pepper and served with rice, a green salad and pasta salad. The salads weren't really necessary but the chicken was great! So good! 5/5 Yellowtail jalapeño Roll - the roll was amazing! Served with wasabi and picketed ginger and presented beautifully with lettuce and some pineapple. The fish tasted so fresh! 5/5 Spicy tuna roll - I was expecting minded spicy tuna so having slices of tuna was very unexpected. Also served with lettuce and pineapple, the fish tarred so fresh! We were so glad to have tried this place. It's pretty legit and I highlyyyy recommend! Aquick note on the bathroom. It's across the parking lot and there was a key and I had to borrow a flashlight. I'm honestly surprised I didn't find them sooner! I originally stopped by for their sweet crepes, and they absolutely lived up to expectations. I ordered the mango crepe, and from the moment I took my first bite, I was instantly transported back to Japan. It was even better than I had hoped. The homemade whipped cream has a subtle coconut flavor that is light, delicate, and incredibly delicious. Paired with their crepe batter--which is made from a blend of flours, including ʻulu flour--it creates a flavor and texture that feels completely unique and I am obsessed. I also tried the coconut kuzu mochi, a chilled Japanese-style mochi dessert that reminded me of an elevated version of haupia pudding. It was refreshing, silky, and perfect for a warm Maui day. Their iced matcha latte was another pleasant surprise. I'm not usually someone who enjoys matcha on its own, but their version is made with oat milk and maple syrup, and the maple complements the earthy matcha beautifully. Somehow, it all just works. Beyond the food, the couple running the shop are sweet and welcoming. Since my first visit, I've returned a couple more times. On one visit, they had already sold out of crepes for the day. While I didn't get to satisfy my craving, I couldn't help but feel happy for them. From what they told me, they spent years working toward opening this space and were finally able to do so late last year. It's easy to see why people are discovering and supporting them. Maui has plenty of great food, but Something Great Hawaii offers something a little different--a taste of Japan with thoughtful local touches. I would love to see them continue to thrive. Highly recommend!
