This was hands down the BEST food we've had on the island! We went to Paia and stood on the long line, and while the food was good, it honestly didn't compare to this place. The fish here was absolutely phenomenal! We had the macadamia nut mahi-mahi and the blackened mahi-mahi, and the kids had the fish tacos. Okay, I could eat here daily. The line was long, but it gave us plenty of time to study their billboard-sized menu. We ordered the two fish tacos and an order of coconut shrimp. The fish tacos were massive. The fish had good flavor, although it leaned a little on the dry side for me. The coconut shrimp, however, were my favorite thing we tried. Crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. We happened to arrive between their two happy hour windows, and while looking at the menu, we noticed that coconut shrimp were also available during the second happy hour along with other small plates. What I found odd was their happy hour policy. Apparently, you can only order from the happy hour menu if you've already purchased an entree and can show your receipt. I've never encountered that anywhere else, and it seemed like a strange business concept. Also, it is not posted anywhere that I saw. When my husband went back to order from the happy hour menu, the cashier asked if we had previously ordered food. He said yes, but our receipt was back at the table. For some reason, she had to go to the back to get approval before allowing him to order. It felt a bit awkward, especially since she was the same cashier who had taken our original order when we first arrived and we asked a bunch of questions, so I would def remember someone like me. lol That policy aside, the coconut shrimp were fantastic. We went around 730pm on a Sunday, and there was quite the line out the door! You order at the counter, get a number, then find a table and wait for your food. Popular place! But the vibe is beachy and laid back with surf board tables and smiling helpful staff. It was about 25-30 minutes from when we joined the line until we got our food. My husband loves the fish tacos! As a vegetarian, he convinced me to try the tofu veggie tacos when they explained all the toppings were the same as the fish tacos minus the fish. We also got fries and a side green salad with pineapple mango vinegarette (yum!). Other vegetarian options include onion rings, taco bowl, taco mountain, impossible burger, coleslaw, mac salad, rice. I wasn't sure what to expect with these Hawaiian tacos (I've had some bad tofu tacos elsewhere) but these were amazing!! I tried to take notes to see if I could recreate these at home! My guesses: The tofu is fried and maybe in a chipotle sauce. With tomato onion jalapeño cilantro lime salsa, topped with the cabbage slaw (coconut milk, mayo, sugar, lemon, ginger), diced tomato and then with a mango salsa that has cilantro/lime, cheese in a white corn tortilla. I was really excited to try this spot and I fell victim to the hype online. It was 100$ for 3 fish taco meals, 3 Hawaiian drinks and a coconut shrimp appetizer that was half off during happy hour. The food looked beautiful, but everything was under seasoned and relatively flavorless. The tacos were so stuffed that as soon as you took a bite, everything fell out of the back. Each taco had two tortillas, but they were stuck together so I couldn't separate my tacos to make them more manageable to eat. The place head a warm local vibe and the staff was super friendly. We walked up to the counter while starting at the large easy to read menus, but we knew what we wanted.... The infamous fish tacos. We came here on our last night in Maui and are glad we didn't miss this on our trip. It was almost empty on a Saturday evening but got more crowded by the time we left around 8 pm. The servers were super sweet and helpful in making recommendations. We got the coconut shrimp, fish tacos and fish and chips--all delicious. My favorite was definitely the fish tacos, which were HUGE and packed with tender fish. The fries on the fish and chips were also great. I called in a Take out order for Mahi Mahi Fish & Chips. Sadly the price went up from what I thought was possibly $18 to now $20 + tax. As a resident, they were able to give a 15% off discount but with tax still totaled to $19. When you enter, the register is right in front of the door which makes it way easier now and I was greeted with aloha. The Breaded Mahi Mahi fish was deliciously breaded and crispy. I forgot to ask for Malt Vinegar but was able to squeeze some lemon juice and dip in their homemade tartar sauce. I also asked for some Tiger sauce to give it that sweet and tangy flavor to the fish. The fries have this delicious spice blend on it but wish it was a tad crispier. The Coconut Milk Cole slaw is a refreshing side dish to the whole meal. I was told they have a happy hour between 2:30-4:30 pm so I'll definitely have to check it out next time. Sounds more budget friendly for sure! If you love fish, this is a good spot. The place was clean the moment we walked in -- tables, floors, everything looked well taken care of. It has a simple, relaxed island vibe that makes you feel comfortable right away. The service was quick, and the staff kept things moving smoothly even with a steady flow of people coming in. Our food came out faster than we expected, which was great. The service was average, and the host had a less-than-aloha attitude that didn't make for the warm welcome I expected.
