We went around 730pm on a Sunday, and there was quite the line out the door! You order at the counter, get a number, then find a table and wait for your food. Popular place! But the vibe is beachy and laid back with surf board tables and smiling helpful staff. It was about 25-30 minutes from when we joined the line until we got our food. My husband loves the fish tacos! As a vegetarian, he convinced me to try the tofu veggie tacos when they explained all the toppings were the same as the fish tacos minus the fish. We also got fries and a side green salad with pineapple mango vinegarette (yum!). Other vegetarian options include onion rings, taco bowl, taco mountain, impossible burger, coleslaw, mac salad, rice. I wasn't sure what to expect with these Hawaiian tacos (I've had some bad tofu tacos elsewhere) but these were amazing!! I tried to take notes to see if I could recreate these at home! My guesses: The tofu is fried and maybe in a chipotle sauce. With tomato onion jalapeño cilantro lime salsa, topped with the cabbage slaw (coconut milk, mayo, sugar, lemon, ginger), diced tomato and then with a mango salsa that has cilantro/lime, cheese in a white corn tortilla. We came here on our last night in Maui and are glad we didn't miss this on our trip. It was almost empty on a Saturday evening but got more crowded by the time we left around 8 pm. The servers were super sweet and helpful in making recommendations. We got the coconut shrimp, fish tacos and fish and chips--all delicious. My favorite was definitely the fish tacos, which were HUGE and packed with tender fish. The fries on the fish and chips were also great. I'm actually really surprised at the ratings here - the only decent thing we had was the mahi mahi fish and chips - the tacos were loaded but totally flavorless. The salsa was nice but honestly shouldn't be something that "saves" a taco. Also the slaw that comes with the mahi mahi was super bland. As a resident, they were able to give a 15% off discount but with tax still totaled to $19. When you enter, the register is right in front of the door which makes it way easier now and I was greeted with aloha. The Breaded Mahi Mahi fish was deliciously breaded and crispy. I forgot to ask for Malt Vinegar but was able to squeeze some lemon juice and dip in their homemade tartar sauce. I also asked for some Tiger sauce to give it that sweet and tangy flavor to the fish. The fries have this delicious spice blend on it but wish it was a tad crispier. The Coconut Milk Cole slaw is a refreshing side dish to the whole meal. I was told they have a happy hour between 2:30-4:30 pm so I'll definitely have to check it out next time. Sounds more budget friendly for sure! If you love fish, this is a good spot. Food we tried: 1) Fish tacos. Their fish tacos are actually better or at least on par with some I've had in San Diego. They advertise that their fish tacos have 17 different ingredients. Mine even had a very small amount of avocado! Their cole slaw is particularly delicious. 2) Coconut shrimp. Their coconut shrimp appetizer was lightly battered and the sauce had a nice mango flavor. The batter certainly had a coconut flavor to it. It was not too oily and not too heavily battered. 3) Spicy ahi poke. I also tried their spicy ahi poke appetizer and it was very nicely flavored (albeit pricey even for Hawaii). Nicely decorated, casual place. Free water cups. They bring the food to you but that's it for service. Great spot right across from the a very nice sandy beach. This is our favorite place in Kihei to get fish tacos. This trip we stopped by here twice. Every year they are just as good as the year before. They upped their game this year with providing neat little trays. I always ask for my salsa and tomatoes on the side, and this year they came in little metal containers. The poke nachos are a new addition and we enjoyed those. The chips were crisp and well prepared. The fish taco mountain is something I have been ordering here for years since they first opened. So I know how it should look and taste. This was excellent the fish was fresh and tender and the seasoning was spot on. This is why I drive halfway across the island. The service was friendly quick and efficient. Like the way they redid the place . Where the soda machine and wall hide the kitchen and the new pictures are nice. It gives the place a cleaner feel.
