I have lived around the corner from here for over three years, and I would say I have eaten here about once every two months. The first time, I was blown away. I had the power grain bowl, and boy was it good. The problem is that it's completely inconsistent. Sometimes I get it with wonderful chunks of feta and avocado, and other times it comes with a few measly grains of each. I thought that maybe it was just an "off" time the first few times it was only so-so, but over the past year it's been just okay every other time. If I am paying 16 dollars for a bowl, I want it to be exceptional. And while it sometimes is, other times it's not, and because of that, I finally submit this sub-par review. read more

The staff can be really nice or really rude depending on who you get. I used to go here often for breakfast when I lived in Timbergrove. The thick cake-like french toast is out of this world and the migas is super yum. Both come with ample side of fruits (berries, bananas, melons, etc). Too bad they are closed for weekend brunch. I would skip lunch though. The lunch fare is boring and mediocre, and the lunch hour rush from nearby businesses can make it too busy for comfort. read more

Usually go here for lunch. Always good. Decided to try dinner menu. Husband had the pepper crusted sirloin. Cooked to order, tender, juicy and tasty sauce. Came with green beans and mashed potatoes. Good food, good price. Can't get better than that. I love their Monterey Chicken sandwich. I also had the parmesan crusted chicken once with mac and cheese I believe and it was really good. The mac and cheese was like a nice homemade mac and cheese. but was really good. They have really good fries too. They are quick also, by the time I get my drink and sit down for a minute or two my food is ready. The crowd is usually the business lunch crowd during the week. During the weekends there is a variety of people. The only downside is their chairs. They are like patio chairs and aren't that comfortable. Other than that though the place is great. read more

There's something I like about this place. It's a little identity confused, I think, but in a way that's kind of endearing (picture a Goth kid with a Rainbow Brite backpack). Menus on chalkboards suggest a semi-hip locale... and are then coupled with mismatched tables and octogenarians holding a meeting in the side room. The very American breakfast menu (eggs! bacon! toast!) gives way to a Mediterranean inspired lunch menu. It's the sort of place that is great to grab a quick breakfast-- they'll have you out in 5 minutes if you order something simple-- but offers wifi in case you want to hangout. I wouldn't go out of my way to get to Kojak's, but I suspect I'd be a regular if I lived in the neighborhood. read more

I cheated. I have been trying to cut back on eating out during the week so I've been brining lunch and cooking breakfast. Today, I did make breakfast but didn't feel like putting together lunch so I grabbed some fruit and a cup of soup (you know the kind that is 95% sodium....). By the time lunch came around I just wasn't in the mood for salty water. I decided to pull up the Kojak's menu since it was close. They have some decent options including some healthier choices....a route I did not travel! I went with the parmesan crusted chicken since it is listed as a top buy. The store is a bit lacking. It's in a dinky strip center and is bordering on having a cool and welcoming vibe. Not quite. Maybe I just always prefer padded booths to tables strewn around....I was ordering to go anyway so no biggie. They had some pretty good looking pastries (muffins, baklava, etc.) that I might have to try next time. It was early dinner/late lunch so it was pretty empty. The place just isn't all that inviting so I might stick with to go orders. The food was pretty good. The chicken would have been nice with a sauce.... The veggies were okay...nothing special. The mac and cheese was very good considering I never like restaurant mac and cheese....my mom has spoiled me! The staff was ok. Not super friendly but, again, it was a weird time. I felt like the cashier made a sour face after seeing that I didn't tip. I always tip (after years working in restaurants/bakeries) but had just had a talk with somebody about tipping on take out orders. I actually had thought about it on the drive over. The kitchen staff does most of the work on take out orders but won't see that tip so I decided that maybe I should stop. Maybe it's just my guilty conscience! Although....I did end up with the wrong side.... I'll definitely try them again as price wise they are comparable to the deli in the office building but the food is much better. read more

I called Kojak's at 8AM and asked if it was possible to make 20 po-boys ready by 9:15AM. They did it! The sanwiches were fresh, delicious, and everyone working there was extremely helpful and friendly. I will definitely be using them again for catering in the future. read more

I love Kojak's. Their breakfast tacos are a staple for my co-workers and me. The Gyros are decent. The burgers are pretty good. Their take on the Reuben is probably my favorite thing on their menu. 1. Very good customer service, orders togo, eat in, catering are all good! Best thing is the daily lunch specials and thay are always great. I cannot say which I like best becasue they are all really good! Breakfast is good too, but for me they open too later, I am at 6am guy for work, and they open at 7am. The place has lots of seating and even a partty/meeting room that is open to all depending on if they have a group using that room or not. The daily special menu is always online before 11am. I might be a lil late for my review of a year old. that means I haven't been back there since...duh...me. I ordered crab cakes, I've never realized how nasty crab cakes are with imitation crab meat and bread crumbs. Husband ordered chicken fried chicken, and the giant piece is made out of chicken breast but pounded so thin, however not fried long enough the whole thing was soggy with gravy, everything fell apart... I wanted to support local restaurants, I just can't support this one cuz the standard of the food and service are just not there. Hopefully they're using real crab meat for their crab cakes and not paper thin chicken breast for chicken fried chicken. read more

Usually eat here for dinner. The food is pretty good (my favorite is the Tilapia Piccata). It is a "no frills" kind of place where you eat on paper plates and use plastic ware, but the price is right and they have a nice selection for every taste. Unfortunately, they are INCREDIBLY inconsistent about what time they close for dinner. Over the years I have been going, I have seen the closing time bounce around from 7:30, 8:00, 8:30 to 9:00 p.m. I have tried to take my husband and friends there on several occasions only to be disappointed to find out that they had closed or were about to close. Therefore, the last time I went, I decided to "get wise" and check their website for the closing time--well, even though it said (and still says) they close at 9:00 it is wrong (I think they close at 8:30 now, but who can be sure. Regardless of how much we like their food, my husband is reluctant to go back with me because of the number of times we traveled there only to be disappointed that they were closed. With the addition of many restaurants opening up in the Oak Forest/Garden Oaks area, this frustrating inconsistency may cause me to mark it off my list of places we eat. So...give it a try, but, if you are going for dinner, you should probably call first. read more

Love this place! I've been eating lunch here about once a week for the last year and because their menu rotates daily that means I've tried a LOT of different dishes. I can really only think of one thing I didn't care for (chicken Alfredo), everything else has been at least good and more often very good or great. It's impressive that they manage to put out such a variety of food (again, the rotating menu) that is so consistently good and well prepared. The burgers and sandwiches are great, as are all the Greek plates. I notice some of the older reviews complain about the fries here but those must have changed in the last couple years because now they are crisp, non greasy, and well seasoned. Nice little neighborhood restaurant. Love the gyro plate, though one in my family deemed the meat "too mushy." I can't find fault. Ok, maybe putting the salad greens under the meat is not my favorite part, but I just substitute a salad for one of the sides and all is good. The side salads are generous, contain a nice mix of greens, and the dressing is excellent. I've tried the garlic mashed potatoes and found them almost addictive. I wasn't even hungry and kept taking "tastes." Sometimes I've even found an extra free container of hummus in my takeout bag, along with a nice "thank you" note written on the top. I go there regularly out of necessity as I live right by it. Each time, the service has been terrible. The people there are not at all courteous, especially this one particular lady who is amazingly rude every time for no apparent reason. The food is not bad, its fairly good. Its just your standard deli fare. Nothing innovative or great, but good nevertheless. Its sheer luck that they've been around for as long as they have. I guess their food is good enough for the likes of me to put up with it. Don't bother asking for any modifications to your food or anything extra (even if you are willing to pay for extra onions or tomatoes which she charges a dollar for), the lady will get mad and act as if you just called her names. Also, don't be there in the last hour of their operation, they'll be ruder than ever and even shut the lights out on you while talking about you right in your presence ! Its to the point that I am never going back anytime soon, I've taken this nonsense for over a year now. If they treat their regulars like this, I wonder how they are to people who just stop by. Virtually, every other person who I know has gone there, has some story about how mean/rude the staff has been. read more

I had the chicken fried chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. There was so much food that I had enough leftover for lunch the next day. The staff is very friendly and the place is very clean. My husband had the fish tacos and we sampled the pulled pork. It was all awesome we will definitely eat here again. I have been frequenting this restaurant for quite some time. The new staff at this place is horrible! The manager is rude, the staff is unfriendly and it's just totally different than what I'm accustomed to (since the staff has been changed). I have frequented this place often, been living in the Heights District for seven years and never have been treated like this -- like I was today. I asked to speak with the manager and was given a voice mail number -- and could not leave a message (due to the voice mail messages not being checked). I just wanted something simple to be changed with my order and I was made to look like I was in the wrong for even asking. Trust, I won't be back and if you have ever been here before (you will see what I am saying about this new management, cooks, and servers)! The manager had the audacity to tell me that I could take the SOGGY sandwich that I had and bring it back the next day to show the owner (Mark). She was totally rude in front of other customers.
