My mom wanted to come to Shandy's for her birthday because we were doing an activity nearby afterwards. I eat a dairy free and grain free diet so this one was a little tough for me. I asked our server a couple questions about some of the dishes and was met with Irritation and rudeness and comments like, "of course there is cream in the mashed potatoes, it's mashed potatoes!" I was also told that the green beans were "just fried in a little bit of olive oil", yet they came out on my plate in a brown sauce. Hmm. Our server seemed to be very nice to a couple tables around us but not so much with us. She also appeared to be the only staff person in the restaurant out on the floor. I overheard other people calling her Shandy and it turned out she was the owner! I was appalled! As a female, I'm passionate about supporting other females and women-owned businesses, especially minority women. But I do expect a certain level of professionalism and to be treated with respect. I didn't find that at Shandy's :( My mom provided feedback to the owner after our meal and the owner indicated to my mom that my mom was the only person to ever give her this type of feedback. I have been to the one off of Memorial before they moved to 19th street. I don't remember what they moved into and what the business used to be but automatically the parking is better and easier to get to. Lots of seating when I arrived but it was after the lunch rush. Orders were moving quickly and I ordered my to go and it was ready in minutes. I think because I go the cold salad sampler it came quickly. Food was okay and it would have been nice if it had come with crackers or something but it was a refreshing lunch for a hot day. read more

One of the best Caesar salads I've had in a while. They have a large menu, pretty sure you could find an option for anyone. Service is straightforward, even the other diners were kind. Shout out to the other customer that heard me debating my options and gave me a list of great things to try. They seem to have a consistent base of loyal customers as they called a lot of them by name. I love seeing that for small local businesses! I know this is random, but there is salt and pepper shakers are so neat! The bathroom, while there's only one stall, it was large and clean. Parking can be challenging, but we were lucky enough to find a parking spot right in front. The time that I went, there were a few parking spaces nearby (this was on an evening of a weekday). Caesar salad (5/5) I'm always on the hunt for the best Caesar salad, and this one definitely competes! This is one of the best stressed salads I've had. I really enjoyed the fine shopping of the lettuce. Everything was perfectly balanced. Shrimp Fresca (4/5) - great portion, and the flavor was great. I really enjoyed the pesto on top. The sauce was nice and creamy with a little bit of tart from the sun-dried tomatoes. Hate that they are so far from me. Otherwise I would be there every week. I love exploring new places to eat so today I came across shandys the inside is very nice they decorated it for mardigras the server was a nice older Hispanic lady she was talking about the menu and the Mexican food menu I liked the options but the pricing was a bit too much I paid about 14 for a sandwich and fries my boyfriend got a burger for the same price and fries we both got water that tastes like sink water the fries were good just needed more flavor the burger didn't have anything special to it just like any other the sandwich was pretty good but still a basic grilled cheese overall it's an ok place read more

Took me a minute to figure out why the woman working was so short with us. We aren't from the Heights so the demographic that comes here are the resturants biggest supporters. She was kind and talkative to every non-black person (we are the only ones - and she is black). If this is her personality usually that's unfortunate. Being nice to all customers brings you regulars but I digress. .... The food was good, warm, and fresh. The breakfast sandwich was super cheesy, I say more meat on there would be better. That's because, after arriving around 4 pm, I saw that the "open" sign and hours were lit up and flashing, TV was on inside, lights were on, but the front door was locked. Meh. Nothing special here. Still in Houston, we ordered delivery so can't speak to service or ambiance. The delivery came quickly enough. The turkey sandwich was just turkey and bread and a very small portion. Disappointing. The "chicken veggie" soup had plenty of chicken but little else. Just a few carrots and celery and a little of what looked like fideo pasta. It needed salt and veggies. The "club" sandwich was cut in half, not quarters, and had no layers. It was basically just a BLT, and not a very good one. Mixed fruit had no strawberries nor melon nor pineapple. It was just apples, grapes and blueberries. Salad was mainly lettuce with a tiny bit of tomato. The "German chocolate cake" was most disappointing. The cake was dark chocolate, not german chocolate and not fresh. The icing was mainly fudge icing. There was a little of what was supposed to be coconut caramel icing between the layers but not good. No pecans and no flavor. Probably came from a can. The oatmeal cookie was so bland my husband only ate part of it. Food was edible, but dry and small portions for the price. Definitely not worth going back again. read more

We were out looking at antique stores in the Heights and got hungry. Shandy's was attached to a really nice one on 19th street, so we thought we'd give it a try. OMG was that a great idea! We lucked into one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at! It was so cute and cozy. They had a whole Mardi Gras theme going and a ton of little 2 top tables. Their guacamole dip and chips were honestly the best I'd ever had anywhere, hands down, bar none. Their chips are cooked in house right before they come to your table, and there's so much guacamole dip you end up with some left over afterwards, even when you take big dips every time. Everything is freshly made and it definitely shows that they use the best ingredients. Idk how it was so cheap either. I ordered the breakfast burger, medium rare, as always, and it was perfect! The egg was even perfectly cooked where it pops and runs down the burger when you hit it. I'm telling you this place was amazing. My wife ordered the broccoli and chicken salad with pecans and even though my burger was amazing, after taking a bite of her salad I was kinda jealous! lol for real everything was amazing and I totally recommend eating here. It wasn't busy and we went at noon on a Saturday. I don't understand how there wasn't a 30 minute wait to get in. I recently hosted a surprise birthday party for a group of friends who were on a tight schedule. We Came early for drinks and dinner, everyone loved their entrees and drinks. We randomly stopped into Shandy's while in the Heights after their menu outside the restaurant caught our eye and we really enjoyed it! We went at an off-time around 3:30 so it wasn't too crowded, but we were greeted upon walking in and the servers we interacted with were all friendly. I ordered the Rustica Chicken Sandwich, which was a slam freaking dunk. The ciabatta bread was super soft and the fillings of the sandwich were the perfect combination of savory, salty and spicy. I know I'm gonna be craving that sandwich in days to come. The fries were pretty mid, but came out freshly prepared so that was good. My husband got a cheeseburger and sweet potato fries and was also very pleased with his meal. The sweet potato fries were much more tasty than the regular fries, so I'll opt for those in the future. The BLT's lettuce was dark and wilted, the bacon was burnt, the bread was stale, and the size so small it should have been served at tea time. The buffalo chicken sandwich didn't use buffalo sauce and the fries it came with were soggy. The chocolate chip cookies didn't taste chocolatey at all because they were full of pecans, which was odd. I honestly felt secondhand embarrassment, similar to when you watch a cringey romcom fail. Cannot recommend. Run away! read more

First time in and this place was great!! We popped in during a rain storm because we were hungry and wanted to stay dry LOL. We have been wanting to try it so seemed like a perfect time. I had the chicken salad sandwich on gluten free bread with fries. It was delicious! The chicken salad was creamy and well seasoned. The pecans in it were a fun crunch. The gluten free bread was soft and fluffy, which can be hard to come by! As someone with a gluten allergy, having a gluten free option for sandwiches is awesome but when the bread is as good as this place, it's incredible! The fries were perfectly crispy, fresh and delicious. My husband got the Buffalo chicken sandwich, which wasn't a traditional Buffalo sandwich. We were told before placing our order, so that was nice for the warning! He went for it anyway and said it was tasty. The staff was friendly and attentive. Their Christmas decor is fun.
