The first time we came, we of course ordered the Shaka-Boom with Pineapple Dole Whip and Coconut soft serve. The pineapple is on the sweeter side so it's good to mix it with something subtle to even out the sweetness. The actual shaka cone was on the dry side. Not anything special besides a good photo, but I did enjoy the soft serve very much. I love waffles and I love mochi, so of course I loved the mochi waffle pop! We ordered the Over the Rainbow combinations. Fruity pebbles, white chocolate and rainbow sprinkles. It was so good I went back the next day and ordered the same waffle pop and soft serve on the side. He unfortunately forgot the sprinkles on the waffle pop the second time I came in but he was so nice and they had a huge group order that was before me so I felt bad to come back and ask. No worries. The gentleman at the counter was really nice and definitely had an aloha spirit. I loved his attitude and awesome customer service. He even remembered my name. I was looking for a cool treat and we found this place on Yelp. Locally owned, it is only seven weeks old - so new that it is not yet on the signage at the Royal Hawaiian Center (go upstairs to the food court to find it). There are several options- all somewhat unique (to me). I chose the Shaka waffle cone (freshly made, it tasted like a soft and chewy fortune cookie) with sweet red bean filling and coconut cream ice cream with coconut flakes and Hawaiian granola (you have a choice of filling and soft serve plus two toppings). Very refreshing and delicious. They make efforts to be as environmentally conscious as possible - use small wooden "spoons" and paper straws. The enthusiasm of the guy at the counter (not sure if he is part of the family that owns it) was fantastic. Hoping we can make it back once more before we leave! read more

I recently had a chance to take a friend to the Royal Hawaiian while she was visiting Honolulu. The Shaka Boom was so cute that I wanted to take her to Kokoro after dinner and enjoy a cute but hopefully yummy dessert. Honestly, I was really underwhelmed about the actual Shaka cone/ waffle itself after ordering one and eating it. I've had better cones /waffles (like Somisomi in Ala Moana) and feel like it is possible to change the recipe and make it better. Kokoro is in an outdoor space so the ice cream quickly melts. The ice cream also quickly leaks through the Shaka waffle cone and it gets messy. Thankfully, they give you a wet napkin but I'm not a fan of scarfing down my ice cream before it melts. One plus was that they have Pineapple whip... but again, if you really love Pineapple Whip you can go to 24 hr Walgreens on Kapiolani to get a huge cup. Overall, it was an okay experience and know that the Shaka Boom is adorable but might not be the best to eat! read more

Came here for a quick snack specific to the Shaka boom. The service is super friendly and personable. They were extremely helpful in explaining the menu and the choices. The Shaka boom alone had multiple choices to customize it. The Shaka waffle is freshly made for every order so there is a little wait but well worth it! I just wish the fresh pineapple option had more than one piece of pineapple. The soft serve is tasty as is the Shaka waffle. I would def come back here if in the area again. read more

I've been dying to try this little cafe for a while. I had the Shakaboom, it's so cute but it's also delicious. I believe it's a Mochi waffle for the Shaka and some soft serve. I love chocolate so that's the filling and ice cream I chose. They have other things too! My fiancé tried their mochi pop. Its located in the royal Hawaiian shopping center food court. The place and idea is cute. I ordered the strawberry ice cream on the waffle cone since they ran out of the Shaka-boom. Ice cream flavor was suppose to be "made from" Hawaii but the color was like bright pink with chunks of frozen strawberries...looks like they added dye?? kinda weird. Flavor was okay. Now for the service: The girl that took my order and gave me my ice cream was so unfriendly and rude. No greetings, smile or anything. She just stared as us while we gave our order. This place offers the cutest looking desserts especially their Shaka boom! I was so excited to try this place out but unfortunately it was kinda disappointing. For the soft serve I chose acai and I did not like it at all. It was very sour and didn't really taste like açaí to me. It kinda had a floral taste to it which I did not like. For the filling I got haupia which was average nothing special. My favorite part was the Shaka dough part. If you had Japanese baby castella it tastes very similar to that. Or the Chinese egg puff (egg puffs taste better tho). I basically only ate the dough parts with out any soft serve. For topping they had a good selection, I got fresh strawberry which came with on a cute stick and Oreo sprinkles. I might try this place again but I wont get the açaí again. Maybe I'll choose a generic flavor like vanilla. Service was good the girls behind the counter was friendly. The place also looks very neat and clean. Parking in Waikiki sucks but you can park at the royal hawaiian parking structure and get a validation for the free first hour. read more

Yay! Another desert place in Waikiki I can get validation from. Their ice cream is very refreshing and not heavy at all. I got the swirl with coconut and dole whip. I already love dole whip, and the coconut makes it taste like pina colada! The owner was nice enough for me to sample the ice cream before committing, and mentioned the pina colada swirl. He also made conversation with my boyfriend and I and knew that we were locals and asked how we heard of Kokoro Cafe! The refreshing ice cream was paired with the taikyaki shaka with haupia filling. Everything complemented each other well, and I also got fresh strawberry and pineapple as a topping! Just tried the Dole Whip here and it was absolutely amazing. Giving them 5 stars to hopefully lure all you tourists out here to give them a try because it's SO GOOD. Their dole whip is not a traditional dole whip in that it includes frozen POG and diced pineapple on to which really ups the deliciousness of this thing. The Shaka-Boom looked better than what it tasted. I was expecting to have the Shaka have a crusty exterior with a soft inside due to the mochi batter, but it was just soft all around like it was sitting out for awhile. The staff was really friendly and kind to assist me with deciding what to get. I settled for a Coconut Cream ice cream with matcha powder and oreo powder. The ice cream was good with the toppings, but for $7 or so, I felt like it could have been better. Stumbled upon this gem when looking for some desserts in the mall. It is located at the food court. The girls there were really juce and offered us samples of flavors we wanted to try. I ended up getting a pineapple dole whip with a pineapple (small size) while my boufriend got the cone (in the shape of ) which came with a filling and ice cream on top. The pineapple dole whip is tangy and sweet, which is almost like a sorbet. Im not a huge fan of pineapple, but I really liked how it tasted. It feels very refreshing on a hot day! My boyfriend liked his ice cream (half vanilla and chocolate) with a chocolate filling in the cone. The cone almost tastes like a waffle and is a fun Hawaiian symbol shape! This has got to be the cutest dessert EVER. Mostly cause of it's LOCAL touch. From the Shaka \m/ cone to açaí and pineapple dole whip soft serve flavors. Not only is it crafty, the flavors we got were on point. The sourness of the açaí blended well with the creaminess of vanilla bean and extra sweetness from the honey we added as a topping. Stopped by this place located in the food court on the 2nd floor of the mall for a refreshing drink while on vacation from California. Okay experience. Girl was friendly. But she kept pushing me to buy more stuff when I explained I'm just grabbing something quick and light before my appointment nearby. I even mentioned I'll come by later after my appointment in about 20minutes. Food came out in 5-8 minutes from time of order. I finally got my food but she took away the tray for the food when I was going to sit on a table in front of the store. The center doesn't have elsewhere to eat. Why should I stand and eat. She didn't even have a bag of the treat. Her excuse was "I didn't know if you were going to stay here or not" while giggling. I didn't appreciate that comment. She should've just asked. Anyways I just took my food to go like that- on a paper napkin (1 might I add) and drink to go. To the table in front of the store so she could see what an rude mistake she made. Anyways the treat was nice and juice was good. I'll just try to remember to ask for more napkins, a tray or a bag to go since she won't think to let me sit and eat. The soft serve ice cream was alright. It didn't taste nearly as good as ice cream in Japan but it was still delicious.
