Forty Niner is not a football-themed restaurant. It's basically a walk-up counter attached to the hotel and office building on the corner by the canal. There really isn't much atmosphere. You either eat at one of the few small tables in the lobby or sit on the couches that make you feel like you're waiting for a meeting or an interview. If you're looking for a cozy breakfast spot, this isn't it. The food was mixed. The pancakes were good, and the pork option was also good. The salmon dish came with a scoop of rice and what amounted to a tiny spoonful of salmon salsa, which felt skimpy for the price. It's located outside of the Skyline Island Colony Hotel- Its looks like a " pop-up " but its been there for a few years. There is seating in front of the stand - the food is served in a take out box so you can also take it home. For being part of a hotel valet area it is surprisingly comfy and welcoming. We were actually here to taste their loco moco that made with their homemade burger patty and Molokai pork roast. I liked their burger patty because it was fully cooked inside but it was still soft to bite into it. Their pork roast that was beneath the patty was moist with good seasoning. Everything is served in a takeout box, so customers can take their meals to their hotel room or to the beach if they don't want to dine right there. I thought that I could park at the hotel. Nope... the cashier at Forty Niner - Waikiki advised me to park at Ross Dress For Less because it's one block away! Just buy anything and get free parking with validation for two hours! Gosh... I had to pay $4 for half an hour at the hotel so I could move my car to Ross... shucks! Anyway... My friend ordered the Hawaiian Plate. She was very happy with the kalua pig and encouraged me to have a bite... pretty good! Smokey flavor with moist, soft pork! The laulau was okay, and so was the lomi salmon. I got the Hamburger Steak. It didn't have gravy all over. The consistency of the patty was different... softer than usual. The rice was satisfactory and the lettuce was crisp and fresh! Would i return? This establishment is located right outside a hotel. There are a few tables in which you can take your food and eat. It's more of a to go restaurant and not a sit down. You order at the counter and your # is called. We walked here on a Wednesday morning around 10 am. I ordered the following items: Big boy breakfast with scrambled eggs Ube and coconut pancakes 2 coffees The cost of the meals with the two coffees was about $34. Food came out in less than 10 minutes. I normally drink my coffee black and took a sip. The coffee didn't have a strong coffee flavor. It was more watered down and had a slight coffee taste. The big boy breakfast came with fried rice, 2 pieces of spam, 2 pieces or Portuguese sausages, 2 pieces of bacon and 3 eggs cooked how you want. My Lil man asked for the eggs scrambled. I noticed when I cut into the eggs, they were slightly under cooked and runny for scrambled eggs. I think if it was on the grill for a minute or two longer, it would have been cooked to perfection. The spam was a nice big slice, but again, it would have been nicer if it was cooked a little longer. I didn't get to try and bacon since my son ate them quickly. The Portuguese sausages were nicely cooked. Also, the fried rice had a good flavor to it. TBH, I was expecting a little more fried rice since the plate was called Big Boy plate, but it was good nevertheless. The pancakes were a great addition to our breakfast. Our favorite ube pancakes are from yogurstory but I didn't want to drive anywhere today. I yelped ube pancakes for breakfast because that's what my mom requested and found forty niners walking distance. The pancakes did not disappoint. Although I prefer ube pancakes with the ube syrup, these were also pretty tasty. The pancakes were more buttermilk pancakes and they were nice and fluffy. The is easily the most mid food we've had on our stay here on Waikiki. Good location, nice, airy, and reasonably quiet. Service was just ok. By the numbers without any flair really. Just doing the minimum and nothing more. It was fine, they weren't mean or anything, just nothing really there beyond that. Loco Moco was ok at best. Needed seasoning. I had an iced mocha which was just ok too. My wife ordered the 49er. Spam was fried nicely, but the fried rice was little more than white rice with soy sauce and some diced meat. Very little flavor. Her scrambled eggs were the least scrambled eggs we've ever seen. This place was the least at breakfast of all the restaurants we visited here. Should have been a red flag. Wouldn't take much to elevate the food here at all. It was just uninspired cooking to say the least. A big let down as it was recommended by a YouTube channel. I'm glad we didn't go out of our way to get here as it was a 3 minute walk from our resort, but you can skip this place. The food here is really good! I got the guava French toast and it was like a brioche bun with guava infused flavors. It tasted like a tropical cloud in my mouth. We've been to the original location further away and glad they opened one here, but this one only serves breakfast. The other one has a full menu. The breakfast is still good. We got their big boy breakfast and their forty nine pancakes (banana macadamia nut pancake smothered in haupia macadamia nut sauce). The specialty pancake you can't get a short stack, just comes with full. It's a lot so best to share! It's super sweet.
