Wow what a hidden gem. Came upon this place after searching yelp for somewhere to eat after getting off a cruise ship and this little place did not disappoint. They have several kolache and doughnut options to choose from. It seems the earlier the better to visit as they do run out of items and I can see why We were promptly greeted and given recommendations and upon checking out the guy was gracious enough to give up a couple surprises is our doughnut bag It's a quite small little place but don't let that fool you. It's the best kolaches I've ever had and I've had them in a few different states. They are packed full of flavor and stuffing inside. Sausage gravy was hands down the best. However they all were delicious The doughnuts weren't too bad but idk that I'd get them again as I prefer savory over sweet typically. Can't wait to be in the area again to stop back by here. We been looking for a place that sells Kolache for ever. We had it before in Texas and we so sad that we didn't know. This place existed for two years. Everything is so fresh. The taste is on point. The chicken enchilada was so good, but our favorite is the jalapeño cheddar one. The donuts are so fresh and to find out that the owners are also from Texas was a bonus. Nathan is so nice and friendly. I mentioned our neighbor and my husband are Polish and Lithuanian and that they both lived in Austin. Of course, she brought us Kolache from her first visit to Kolache Bar. I told Nathan that while we were in Houston last month, we saw Kolache shops all around the area! Nathan is from Houston so you know the space center people must be thrilled that he's here! Kolache Bar is located behind Walgreens next to the Chinese take out. The inside is bright and cute and clean with cases of sweet and savory Kolache. They also offer a variety of croissants and great donuts! Next time, we will try almond croissants! Today we had different filled Kolache: sausage & gravy, sausage jalapeño & cheese, and he threw in one he knew my husband would love - jalapeño popper! Yes he did! Ok, so, my good friend sent me a link to this pastry shop at 9am today. She already had me with doughnuts, but when I saw 5 star rating on Yelp, I had to go! So we did-- a few hours later! Aside from the doughnuts, Kolache Bar serves (you guessed it) kolache. A bun made of sweet bread and filled with sweet or savory fillings. First of all, soft, fluffy bread is my kryptonite. Maybe because I grew up on Wonderbread. Remember how you would roll them up into a doughy ball? Anyway, my first bite of the kolache, let me tell you, brought a sweet symphony throughout my body! The bread is so light, fluffy, soft, with a hint of sweetness. You pair that with the savoriness of the filling (we tried the bomber, the chicken enchilada, the Italian chicken , and chorizo and egg) and my tastes buds were singing that Usher song, "Yah"! Each had a deliciousness of its own, but my favorite if I had to choose, were the Bomber and the chorizo and egg. As for the doughnuts and the fruit filled kolache, H-E-A-V-E-N! Freshly made by the owners who are a husband and wife team from Texas (considered the kolache capital, apparently). They are so friendly and welcoming. Their bakery is clean, well lit, modest, located in a strip mall in Merrit Island. Two sets of tables and chairs. My friend and I dined in, but I noticed most their customers ordered to go, which we did before we left. The food speaks for itself! I highly recommend this gem! It is a yeasty pastry filled with fruits like apricots, prunes, cherries, and more." I learned about these delicious treats in Texas several years ago when a nephew introduced me to them. The first ones I had were filled with eggs and bacon. They were excellent. Since then I have been waiting for them to find their way to Florida and Brevard. They have finally arrived. This is the first Kolache location I have seen in the area and decided to try it out. I am glad that I did. It is in an open shopping center with many other stores that share a large parking lot on the west side of N Courtenay Parkway. It has a plexiglass-covered part on the counter where you can see their Kolache selection. There are not many tables inside as it is like a donut shop where you order and go since Kolache's can be eaten on the go. The location was clean. The staff was friendly. The service was quick. The prices are about $3-$5 per kolache. They were very good. If you have never had a kolache or are a fan of these treats like I am, this is a great place to get some great comfort food. read more
