Well $hit. I've been coming to this place for well over a decade in the Lido Village area, and the pricing has gone up drastically to an unjust amount, like 3X more than other cleaners. Seven items cost me over $100, after a discount card. 7 items! 4 Dress shirts, 2 pants, a jacket. $16 per item averaged for one week of worn clothes. And it's not like they're doing the cleaning on site. They're just outsourcing it to somebody who's cheaper than them. And they don't provide you with an itemized receipt on purpose. Extremely upset with the service. Had a stain on a shirt that I asked the worker if it can be remove before giving them the shirt. The worker told me "YES, we have a chemical cleaner that will remove it". I even asked her will the stain come off and she even said yes to me... I trusted her since they have been in business for so long and on top of that it was $14 assuming it will be taken care of. Never paid $14 for one shirt. When I came to pick it up, I wanted to check if the stain is gone. Surprise! It wasn't... I told the worker that her coworker told me it will come off. Her response was so dismissive of my concern. "Oh yeah that's not going to come off unless we wash it again". I told her no it's okay already the shirt looks in poor condition. Something about the shirt too looks discolored and worn down. The biggest highlight at Kona Cleaners in Via Lido Plaza is their customer service - both times I visited, they were honest with their limitations and set my expectations accordingly based on my needs. I had brought in a faux fur coat and they advised the process may be harsh and made sure I was aware and comfortable before proceeding. I had another winter coat with a faux fur hood lining - they took the lining off and told me how to care for it separately on my own. I really appreciate the extra thought and effort they put into servicing anyone who walks through their door. They're a bit pricey but worth it if you're unsure about your items or value them more than a standard set of clothes you'd dry clean. read more

AVOID THIS SERVICE. THEY ARE SCAMMER. When I was waiting for a quote, a random customer inside the store was already complaining about their service that it lacks the detail. And I already felt that this place must be shitty and sneaky. And my hunch was right. They were such a scammer! Let me telling you my experience, I decided ask for quote and start the convo anyway. When I asked the store lady for quote, she said my jacket is a winter jacket, so it is 25$ per each. And my leather jacket should be 100$. And, when I pointed out that the price range indicated in the store is different from what she asked me for. They pointed out the price range indicated in 'cloth alteration section', which is definitely higher then dry cleaning price. And said it is 25$ as it is indicated in 'Alteration' price category. They are the worst cleaners of all time including ripping you off on price. I took my cushion covers off to be cleaned and this was a Thursday. I took them to Kona because they do rush jobs. We the girl said of course we can have them ready by sat no problem come by around 4:30. well do i need to say they weren't done It took them till the next week Thursday to get them back . Also the girl who waited on me could get anything right including getting a receipt for pickup. Very very bad service and to top it off i still have one spot on the cushion cover. Overpriced and poor quality. $38.00 to wash a blanket and then it wasn't even cleaned. I had dripped some liquid medicine on it, which is why I needed it cleaned. The spots were still there and hardened just as they were when I took it in. Using a damp cloth, I was able to easily remove it. This tells me they didn't even clean it. So, I called customer service and guess what, they didn't respond at all. Too many other options in the area. read more

I have been going to Kona cleaners for several years and have had some issues with the quality of their service especially with laundered dress shirts. They have used starch when we specifically stated no starch and most recently a missing button. Regarding the latter I have decided to no longer send any of my clothing to Kona cleaners because of the following incident. When I picked up the shirt I was told a button was missing. I did not think much of it but my husband was upset because he knew for certain that it was not missing when he gave it to them. He called the Lido store location and was told a manager would give him a call back. He travels a lot and did not notice that he had not received a call back for a few weeks. He called again and was transferred to the store in Orange. They told him that a manager will call him back. Carlos called and said that he was the manager and to just take the shirt back and the button will be replaced. So I did but when I gave the shirt to Layla she said that the shirt was not dry cleaned at Kona cleaners because of the creases in the sleeves. I was shocked that she said that because I only was using Kona Cleaners. She acted like they were doing us a favor because they never cleaned the shirt. I could not believe that she was accusing me of lying especially over a button. I left but then came back and picked up all of the items before they could send them out to be cleaned. I found out too that my husband spoke to Carlos again and he supported Layla. I am never going back to this place. read more

We mistakenly fell for some door to door person selling kona discount cards and thought we'd try out delivery dry cleaning. The first time we tried we left the clothes in a bag with the card on it. Got the bag back without the card, no more card...wasted $40 on the card apparently. 1. EXTREMELY overpriced. I'm not cheap but their per item dry clean costs are about double what you pay anywhere else in newport. Even if price doesn't phase you, it's just too much higher and no additional value. 2. I have several men's polos that I use for work and for years I launder them. I don't care much about the fabric, I just want them pressed. Laundering is traditionally cheaper as well. I brought 10 into kona and was told their policy is to ALWAYS dry clean polos and khakis. I've never heard of such a thing. So $6.80 per polo? No value and even if you tell them to launder items, they just dry clean them. Then they launder dress shirts. I just don't get it....neither do they. 3. I checked my receipts (stickers on each item) and THEY CHARGED ME TO DRYCLEAN THE KONA BAG I used to drop off my clothes! Almost $7 just for the bag? I triple checked and it was charged. Unreal. 4. Had items delivered the two times we tried them and both times most of my "pressed" items had to be ironed before I wore them. The delivery clearly stacks them and wrinkles everything. So....an overpriced dry leaner who won't let you launder, gives you your stuff back wrinkled and charges you to DRYCLEAN the bag you dropped off? No thanks. read more

Completely ruined my wedding jacket days before my wedding. I had a custom jacket made with my new last name to wear for my wedding reception. Two weeks prior to my wedding I dropped off the jacket to be dry cleaned so it would be perfect for my photos. When I went to pick up all the items I dropped off, they gave me everything but the jacket. I asked what was going on, and they told me they had to send it off to the main facility to be dry cleaned and it would be ready a few days later. I let them know what date I was leaving to travel for my wedding, and they said they would have it done in time. I went back to pick it up, and they handed it to me facing the wrong direction, so I knew something was wrong and immediately opened thr back to look at it. The jacket was completely ruined- and rather than calling me to let me know, they tried to be shady and fix it, hoping I wouldn't notice. I have attached a photo for reference. The top is how it originally looked, the bottom is how they tried to re sew it back on. On top of the fact that my jacket was ruined, I am most upset about how they handled it. The jacket was made locally in Orange County, and if they called me right when they knew they ruined it, I could have easily brought it in to be fixed prior to my wedding. This was the only wedding disappointment I had. On top of that, the customer service since then has been even worse and they have shown absolutely no sympathy in the damage they have done to what was supposed to be such a special jacket. Aside from the jacket- the other items I dropped off we're not cleaned as they should have been. In response to Karla the information you have is COMPLETELY FALSE. I NEVER denied for my jacket to be inspected for water being used! What I asked was to find a faster solution as Im traveling to the snow TOMORROW and Carlos the manager said the process takes MONTHS and I need my jacket for traveling! Carlos has never been able to prove that the jacket was dry cleaned! Going to the Moncler store doesnt mean anything as in the first place the jacket wasnt bought there! I provided my purchase receipt which is a $2k jacket from Nordstrom!! When I picked up the jacket was completely flat filled up with paper all over, tagged washed and it was in a WHITE BAG not purple as it supposed to be for designer clothes! I am extremely disappointed with Kona Cleaners service specially because Im a Lido resident and I decided to take my designer clothes to you thinking that for how overpriced it already is they will be careful with my clothing. After the first review Carlos emailed me back sayinh there is nothing he will do he asked me to come pick up my jacket and offered me a $200 credit for having the jacket for almost 2 months! Just got my Herve Leger dress mended ($8) and cleaned ($12) for free. WooT!!!! Yay for malfunctioning computer systems. Only drawback is that it took them 2 weeks to clean my dress. So I went here due to the fact it's attached to the market I frequent, Pavilions. I give them 5 stars because now they keep sending me coupons since I went there, I like spending less on things I need to do. Also after my first visit, the owner Lydia sent me a handwritten thank you card, how sweet.There's a couple more dry cleaners on Balboa, but the others seem to be much more expensive. Another thing worth mentioning, is that they send you an email when your order is done, how thoughtful. read more

Purchased two groupons for this place without reading reviews first and I was highly unsatisfied. The dry cleaning is expensive, at least $6.50 per item, more for dresses, jackets and the like. And the abundance of coupons available doesn't make up for that steep of cost. Take advantage of the free pick up and delivery since the prices are high. Secondly, I found the customer service lacking. They were unable to help me with my account issues regarding a groupon purchase, so I was charged when I shouldn't have been. Their computer systems were unable to credit my card, and while the employees were very nice, nothing was resolved. Oh, and they mark all your clothes with a tiny barcode sticker that DOES NOT COME OFF! It's in the fly of your slacks so you see it every time you use the restroom. This place is become a Lido Isle inside joke. Dropped off shirts on Monday. Got a call the next day advising the shirts would be $15 a piece because they were what Kona calls couture pricing (Prada, D&G and Armani). We couldn't stop laughing. So basically, they do an extra good job on handling and cleaning these shirts, as opposed to regular shirts. LOL read more

Used to use Kona in the old days, and I'm back again due to Ana's warm and insightful info on correct cleaning processes for various fabrics, etc. I rarely find employees at any Dry Cleaning outfit willing to offer such consideration. I learned more in 10 minutes about 'cleaning' clothing/fabics than I ever knew! Bottom line... I trust Kona to do the best job possible.
