Worst phone service ever, tried to call the restaurant to ask a question about their menu and got routed through 3 auto robot lines. 3rd routing got me to a reservation line where the actual human agent said that "based on your language no one at the restaurant will want to talk to you." We went for a graduation, a party of 22, they made us choose a menu other then the regular menu. we were forced to pay 70 per person even for a one year old and a 6 year old. The menu did not include meat for that price. We were charged $80 for water. WE had made a reservation for 22 and we got there and they only had 19 seats so 4 from our party moved to a separate table, they were able to use the regular menu and paid separately for their meals, but then we were charged for them again as part of the 22 on the reservation. Back in the day when I was young, sounds like a rap song but no really, Kona Grill used to be a place I LOVED to frequent when I was younger. While in town I made sure to visit! Ambiance, nothing has changed same concept, dim lighting, not really upscale...it's El Paso. Ladies not a place to go all out. Service, it was off. Our waitress took about 10 minutes to greet us, drinks took another 5 minutes. Food was not good. At all. I would write more but it lacked, did not taste fresh and honestly my bill was comparable to my east coast price tags I'm used to. How in the world! Underwhelming! I used to visit Kona frequently when I worked in the area, so we decided to drop by for lunch. As I walked in, I noticed the lunch specials listed, and I planned to ask about them when I was greeted by the server. We were seated and given menus, but I didn't see any mention of lunch specials on them. When our server arrived, I told him I was unsure of what to order. Unfortunately, he never brought up the specials, and since I was preoccupied with work on the phone, I didn't think to ask. I guess that was my oversight. My daughter ordered lemon penne, my younger daughter got cheese pizza, and I chose sea bass sliders from the appetizer menu as my meal. To say I was underwhelmed would be an understatement when the food arrived. The quality of the food did not match the high prices. How can the food be so overpriced with such small portions? The cheese pizza looked as though it had been bitten on one corner, while the pasta was tasty but rather small. My sliders were fine, but as an appetizer, they seemed rather expensive. The sea bass was disappointing; instead of being seared, it was more like it was just toasted on one side and had a burnt taste. After sitting there for a while, I began to notice that the place is not what I remembered from 3-4 years ago. The chairs were uncomfortable and felt worn out even sunken in, and the table was sticky. If I were to return, it would definitely be during happy hour, and I would prefer to sit at the bar. read more

Got to Kona Grill at 735. Got seated right away and then it took over half an hour for any of the servers to take our drink order. The food was alright but did not deserve the price tag. Definitely do not recommend. Only saving grace from a 1 star was that there was 1 server who was hustling and took on our table when he noticed that the person who should be serving us did not show up. read more

What a memorable culinary delightful night. We won a Kona Grill Certificate when bidding at the El Paso Symphony. Diner for two with cocktails, drinks, appetizers and entree with dessert. The full menu. First our hostess made us feel at home immediately and gave us a great booth with a great view. Then angel our server came directly down from heaven to make our experience so much more pleasant. We orders some Kona Calamari, sushi rolls and of course some great cocktails. Two passion fruit Margaritas. Then the Surf and Turf with some fresh lobster and a perfectly cooked medium rare fillet mignon. The mashed potatoes were also well executed. Great food - it was so yummy and the atmosphere so nice inside, it didn't dawn on me they were a chain until after we left the first visit. We liked it so much we returned for a second late meal before the end of our trip! The only thing I didn't love, was how much they pressured us to write a review on Google while we were checking out. I said I was planning on doing a Yelp review and was told that doesn't count towards anything that benefits the employee, and he again pressed my friend and I for a Google review. That's the kind of thing that makes me not want to do a review for them at all. That being said the avocado rolls were amazing, something I've only found in Houston and at BJ's before, and the tacos in lettuce wraps were flavorful and so good! I was excited to try the fish sliders, and found them to be just so-so. They were a little bit not so fresh tasting and not worth the ticket price in my opinion. Dinner prices were hefty, but they offer 2 happy hours each day with reduced prices and i'm guessing smaller plates..no matter, we ended up having late dinners anyway - glad that worked out! While visiting my dad in El Paso, some friends, my dad, and I decided to celebrate an early birthday at Kona Grill. My dad and i have never been so we were looking forward to it. We sat in the bar area, which had a really eclectic vibe with glowing blue lighting and a beautiful blue tile wall behind the bar. The aesthetics were seriously on point. Our server was the bartender, Janet, and she was amazing--super friendly, very attentive, and got everything right. Honestly, her service alone made me want to come back. Now, the food: I had the hibiscus iced tea (Janet's recommendation), and we ordered a variety of items from the happy hour menu. Coming from California, where prices are usually wild, I was shocked (in a good way) that everything averaged about $20 per person--and we had plenty of food! I tried the shrimp tempura: Plump, flavorful, and delicious. Ribeye meatballs: Had this amazing glaze--kind of reminded me of a fancy, high-end meatloaf (in the best way possible). Crab tempura roll: Fresh and filling. I usually stick to my regular sushi spots, but this was a pleasant surprise--I'd totally order it again. All the food items ordered looked great.... and they seemed to enjoy it very much. The spicy shrimp tacos looked delicious (my dad said they were not spicy but our friend thought otherwise). Then came the famous carrot cake. I saw the rave reviews on Yelp, and my friends insisted we try it. They weren't wrong. It was moist, perfectly spiced, and the frosting hit the spot--not too sweet, not too bland. All in all, I'd definitely come back--whether it's for lunch, happy hour, or dinner. Upon walking it the place had a good atmosphere, clean and comfortable but no more impressive than your local Ruby Tuesday. The service was good and the waitress very attentive. As we walked in my friend said oh this place is kind of expensive. I may be depending on your idea of expensive from a chain restaurant. But.....no joke...$39 bucks for fish and chips, $20+ for one rollof sushit..... RIDICULOUS. Good for us it was happy hour. I ordered a $3 beer, $3 Edamame, $6 BBQ chicken flat bread and $6 sliders. It was all pretty good, minus the sliders, they were over cooked a bit. Use to be a great place to hang out then the prices got way to high!! NYE they didn't have regular menu and again the price was high and the food below par. Had the stuffed Salmon which was not stuffed but had a toping on it and lacked flavor. So my second time EVER HERE. Apparently this place just isn't me. The first time was after they opened years ago a friend wanted to go and I couldn't find anything on that menu I wanted to put in my mouth. Finally I tried the pepperoni flat bread. So it was a rectangular pizza basically. Noting to write home about except it was WAY OVER PRICED for pizza. This chilly Monday evening the place was ... practically abandoned. We parked at the front door, abandoned. About 6 pm. Half the menu is drinks and alcohol. I don't drink. The other half was half sushi. I don't do that at all. They had some other Japanese or Asian things but I'm not into that really either. Or I have to be in the mood or craving it and I wasn't but I was with 3 others so ... and I didn't pick ... lol! Too cold for a salad. So I see it's still happy hour so I see chicken & shrimp Bibb lettuce cups for $9 ok ... I'm envisioning strips of chicken and some grilled shrimps in lettuce cups... they all have a surf and turf of prime rib and 3 PRAWNS for $14 wow I love the sound of that because prawns are much larger than shrimp and generally is of that term means heads on and since they are happy hour plates I decide to get both to make my meal because I haven't eaten all day and $24 for all that seems good to me. Well when I order he tells me the shrimp and chicken lettuce wraps are a put it together yourself deal. They give you 4 leaves to start but you can get more if you need them. I ask how the prawns are cooked for the Surf and Turf, are they grilled? He says they are sauté'd. I say that will be fine. I just didn't want fried. So my food comes and to say I was let down is an understatement. My chicken and shrimp mix is apparently all ground up in a meat grinder together. They don't say this is what it will be in the menu. That I recall. Then formed into meat globs and baked or something. Then broken slightly apart in this 1 cup size bowl and covered on some kind Asian sauce that tastes like soy and hoisin mixed with some cooked diced carrots. The Bibb lettuce leaves have been torn in half so you get 4' half of a leaf, not 4 leaves. There is no recognizable shrimp in my meat mash up at all. Not shrimp taste recognizable in it either. The chicken meatball glob, mess whatever is either pulverized at the bottom or in big 1 inch chunks at the top ... I had to chunk it up more with my fork. To get it on a half leaf of lettuce. I made one or two "tacos". The meat was super tough, hard, and dry. No flavor without the sauce it was doused in. It was awful. I could not eat it. The surf and turf, FOR $14, mind you, was basically the world's greyest piece of hand sized sliced roast beef lunch meat you ever seen folded in half on a small plate. And my PRAWNS?? Were 3 MEDIUM size, at best Regular shrimp, nestled together on ONE TOOTHPICK. One. I looked around to see if I was being punked. Seriously. These were not prawns at all. They had some coarse ground. black pepper and some other seasoning on them and they had been pan sainted on that toothpick together apparently. The beef had no flavor. It tasted like water. And was just the most unappetizing dank grey color. It was maybe 1/16 of an inch thick slice. And it came with some Au jus or brownish gravy in a /oz soufflé but it had some weird wang that was unappetizing. Or maybe that was for the "PRAWNS"?? Ugh I don't know. I just ate it ... and the "PRAWNS"'o de-tailed and ate all in one bite... seriously that small... and when I got home I made myself some dinner... because $24 later after leaving Kona Grill and I was starving. Oh one bright spot. A fellow dinner ordered the crispy Brussels Sprouts as an appetizer but was really a side...for another $9. They were really good. We only got 8 Brussels Sprouts for $9 .... So we each got 2 .... Wow.... But at least they were good, deep fried and tossed in like a soy and sesame dressing . I'd eat them again. Our waiter was fine and attentive. The place looks nice and seats were comfortable and tables nice. A fellow diner had the Pad Thai and loved it. Another had shrimp tacos and loved them. The other had a huge salad and only ate half but liked it she said. Oh and they all shared a butter cake dessert with vanilla bean ice cream and raspberry's. They all loved it as well. Let me start off by saying I've always wanted to come here. I've driven by 1000 times and I always thought, hey that place looks cool. Honestly, 1000 times is an exaggeration. But the point is I was always passing by, often, and I kind of thought I would like to try this place. Honestly, I think I like the name more, Kona, it sounds Hawaiian. And I really like food from Hawaii. It has a very pacific islander ambience. And with the cold Pacific Ocean in the background, it's like a slice of heaven. And those little sushi balls that they sell in Hawaii that are made with spam, that is so legit. It would be nice to get those here in the United States mainland. Hawaii is so beautiful. you all should really go there sometime. I mean, I tell my friends about it, but I don't really recommend it because then there's gonna be a lot of people there and it'll be really packed because you know it's an island. Overall, the food is good. I had a chicken wrap, or lettuce, wraps, and chicken, or something like that. The sushi was on point and I have nothing negative to say about it. They set us in the corner at the bar by the bathroom.The food was really amazing. The service was not. We went to Kona grill in the Fountain on Sunday afternoon. I had the Taste of Kona, which is a three-course menu that you can choose from steak, pasta, or sushi. I chose the sushi option that included a glass of wine, Asian salad (whatever that means), two rolls of sushi, and a double decked brownie with ice cream. I find it is a very good value. Noted some of the menu items are rather pricy. I would not pay $10 for a miso soup and $10 for a bottled beer. So if you are planning to go there, definitely check out for the specials and promotions they offer. The ambiance was great, feeling relaxed on the Sunday afternoon. A minor issue we had was that my coffee came room temperature cold, but the server promptly fixed the issue. Overall I had a very good experience. read more

Came here in a Friday night and was seated right away. The place is nice it has very modern lighting and features. The chairs are kind of soft so you sink into them and the tables are really close together. So it was a bit of a shuffle to make sure we can sit without being bumped by someone who was walking by. We had a new server and she did a really great job. Service was top notch! Asked if we needed anything and checked on us frequently but not too much. The food was good. The Crunch Crab roll was basically a California roll with bits of tempura in top with a sweet sauce. The stir fry was good. The veggies were cooked well with still a bit of crunch. The rice was plain white rice. Overall it was good but the prices were a bit much I feel for what we got. I would return to try other menu items. read more

This place was not anything that I was expecting from the other reviews. I was actually quite pleased. The ambiance of this place was very nice and refreashing. It was already 108 outside and when we first walked up to the patio seating area it was a good 20 degree difference. Then walking inside like I said earlier refreshing. We did the 45 minute power lunch for $19. That was filling at a reasonable price. I should have just ordered my daughter a sushi roll over the pizza, she ended up eating nanas roll and nana ended up eating her pizza. More like oven cooked put in the fridge and then brought out microwaved for me. Shrimp tasted old. Sashimi was good. Small portions. Also, ordered burger.(figured can't fail here) it tasted like cafeteria burger. No flavor, bland, and also felt like it was microwaved. Got the California rolls. As you can see in the photo. Rolls where squished. Flavor was bland and the roles were dry. Small portions. Tea tasted like it's been there a 4 days in the fridge with an open lid.(you know.. that fridge taste..) I met my friend there for happy hour. I was pleasantly surprised at the taste of the food. This is my first time at Kona grill. I am a red wine drinker but the sangria was really good. The happy hour prices were great! I was able to sample a lot of different things. I also enjoyed that you paid at the table through the tablet and each person could pay for their items separately without troubling the waiter. We sat outside and the weather cooperated. Kona Grill - Fountains at Farah. Kona is always busy. I'm also not particularly sure what it's deal is? Like, is Kona Japanese? Is it Hawaiian? Is it made up? Ehhh, doesn't matter. So they have a pretty strange menu. I say that because Kona, you'd assume is sushi heavy, but it's not. They do have a large selection of sushi, but at the same time you can get a bowl of tomato basil bisque type soup with bread ... so they have a little bit everything, including FULLLLL BAR. Kona is kinda trendy and typically attracts a younger crowd. Now mind you, I say younger as a 38 year old man. So I'm thinking (looking around), mid - late 20s crowd. Old enough to drink. Old enough to hangout and sit in the outside dining section on a warm Friday night and just order every appetizer on the menu (of which there are many). I don't dislike Kona, as I have it 4-Stars. In fact, the soup I've had there I would legitimately go back again JUST for that. Big also, just keeping it real, maybe it's because i don't feel like Kona knows what it is, like are you a bar? A sushi joint? A soup place lol? And what's with her random live DJ playing music just a tad too loud? I say too loud because again, are you a club or a restaurant? This is a fabulous place. Ambience? Check! Friendly and knowledgeable staff? Check! Clean and well kept bathrooms? Check! Now for the food... Calamari ... now this is an especially important yardstick I use to measure the quality of seafood. The fried calamari was perfect. Yes, crispy yet not overly cooked. The sauce served with it, is to die for! The sushi is as good as the ones in Asia. I come from Asia and the options for good quality Asian food here is sadly, lacking. However, as I said, the sushi here is of high quality. Tastes fresh and they use real slices of fresh tuna instead of the mush that is served in too many places here. I got an order delivered to me (props on the speed at such a late hour on a weekday), but man was it garbage. I wouldn't mind how expensive it was if it was good, but it wasn't. I ordered: Brussels sprouts: There were so few (literally, I think 5) and they were SO dry, I wonder if they had been sitting out for hours before throwing remnants in a container and sending them to my house. $8! Avocado Egg Rolls: these could have been mediocre, but they used BAD avocado in it. Inedible. There were two of them and they were $17. Potstickers: Lousy Chinese restaurants have better potstickers. There were 6, making this the largest portion of everything I got, fried to a crisp and had nothing in them but chicken (or something that resembles chicken, anyway). No scallions or anything to add flavor. Most edible, but plain and significantly overpriced at $17 I don't care about inflation; these prices are absolutely appalling, and the food is horrible. I'm aware you get gypped when you order food for delivery, but this was out of control. Hard pass on ever trying this place again. read more
