I love this restaurant. The slow cooked prime rib is out of this world. Everything is delicious and I like the romantic atmosphere this place has. A candle is on every table.

Now, we've actually been to Pelican's many times before. A number of years, in fact. But since it had been a dog's age since we last visited one, we decided to return once again. The thing that perplexes me as I write this review is....I look at the title and quickly realize they're a "steak and seafood" restaurant. That implies they should know how to make both kinds of protein. Uhm....I dunno how to break this to you guys. But....th-they don't. Allow me to carefully explain. See, Pelican's has always been a seafood place first and anything else second (hence the name). In other words, almost no one comes here for a steak. But that doesn't mean they're allowed to suck at it. Despite this fact however, they do. Oh, GAWD do they suck at cooking beef! I've always enjoyed their lobster tail. So, I got that. Le wifey got the prime rib. Now, initially....this was good for two reasons: 1.) we never tried it before and 2.) absolutely no one took a picture of the prime rib until I did tonight. Unfortunately, those were the only good things about the prime rib. There's no point in beating around the bush here. This was easily the most bland (blandest? is that a word?) rendition of prime rib either of us has ever tasted. It was tender enough, sure. But it was so under seasoned, it made Thirty 5ive look like Hell's Kitchen in Vegas. The fat wasn't even fully rendered properly. 3 out of 10, would not recommend. It was so bland, the wife sent it back for a filet mignon instead. Which...was mildly better, whilst still being shockingly under seasoned. The charred sear combined with its inherent juiciness made up for the lackluster prime rib (GAH! I never thought I'd use those two words in the same sentence). All in all, it was a 6 out of 10 for me. Still a failing grade, but palatable. Which is more than I can say for the prime rib. Next. The lobster tail did not disappoint. Even from the very first bite, I could appreciate that fresh ocean taste. It was opaque and tender, just as a succulent lobster tail should be. I could do without the rice pilaf, though. Seriously, what is up with restaurants' obsession with rice pilaf?! I guess it's tradition but....WHY?! It has to be the LEAST interesting way to serve up rice ever. Ugh! Whatever. Diatribe over. 8 out of 10 for the lobster. Now...I have a slight bone to pick with Pelican's here. Or should I say...a literal pick? Yeah. Turns out, when the wife received her filet, about 8 or 9 bites in, she discovered a hidden treasure inside. In the form of a broken toothpick. I have SO many questions! 1.) Was the chef high? 2.) Was the chef mad we rejected the prime rib in exchange for (hopefully) some other form of beef that would possibly be better and they were perhaps punishing us for dare renouncing their so-called masterpiece? 3.) Who the f*ck prepares filet mignon by inserting it with a toothpick?! I make steaks at home and have never done this. For any reason. Ever. 4.) If the answer to the first question is 'no', did they honestly think we would not notice? 5.) Were they straight up trying to send my wife to the hospital? I could go on for days. But I'll stop here. Thing is, Pelican's is actually a decent place for seafood. I mean, the crab stuffed mushrooms were surprisingly awesome, as was the clam chowder. Didn't even require any additional seasoning. But judging from the pitiful excuse for prime rib, followed by the mediocre filet, I guess this place just hates beef. On the plus side though, the service tonight was excellent! We made sure to leave the server 25%. Don't come here if you have an aversion to seafood. Because that's about the only thing I'd recommend Pelican's for. Therefore, they are hereby deemed 3 fluffy lobster tails with the fresh ocean taste out of 5.

Last business trip of the year, dinner in El Paso. Very difficult to get here as there aren't many direct flights from major cities and a stone's throw from the Mexican border, this gem of a seafood restaurant was a lucky find. Texas is the land of beefsteaks and El Paso is known for great Mexican food. Our server Vanessa recommended a mix of seafood, the lobster, king crab and a very tender prime rib. Everything was prepared perfectly as ordered. Medium rare prime rib was exactly the right temperature and the seafood was perfectly steamed, not overdone, sweet and succulent. Didn't have room for dessert, but this was a great place to close out a year of business dinners.

This place is soooo good was my first time here loved it !!!

Very good food. Prices fair and staff courteous. Usually very busy especially at the bar. A bit noisy, but very enjoyable.

The food is dependable considering how far we are from the Gulf of America! The lighting is easy on the eyes, not bright.

Food was great, service was good. Atmosphere a little dated as others have noted but we knew that going in so we didn't sweat it.

She gave us some ideas of things to eat and I'm glad we listened cause we really enjoyed it and even though there was a few things that I would consider negative in the beginning, it turned out to be great and would definitely come back.

It was a Friday night, we arrived around 8pm and the restaurant was so busy and full of life. Music was blasting, ranging from reggaeton, to regional mexicana/banda, to pop. The prices for the food and drinks were all super cheap as well, so we knew we'd be ordering multiple items. Probably the best item we had was the arrachera quesadilla (can't remember the actual name in the menu for it). Our waiter was a young guy, constantly coming by asking if we wanted to add on to our order. We had multiple rounds of tequila shots and some mixed drinks, but definitely felt like the liquor was watered down. Before we took off, we even danced a couple of songs, giving us a club feel. Overall we loved it so much we had decided to come back the following Tuesday with more family. Well....we were left so disappointed. Everything was completely different. We arrived around 10, figured it being a Tuesday before Christmas Eve, it wouldn't be too busy. It seems that it was a lot busier than the restaurant had expected because they were definitely understaffed. Our waiter probably took 20 minutes to come to us to take our drink order and when he finally did, he stood in one end of the table struggling to hear us from the opposite end over the loud music. Don't understand why he couldn't simply walk over to our side. We waited another 10 minutes to actually get the drinks and for him to come around again to take our food order. Since service was so slow, we tried going straight to the bar and get drinks there, but they wouldn't take our orders because they had to be placed with our waiter. Food was pretty much the same, with the exception of the kitchen running out of multiple items by 11:30. I would have given this place 5 stars on the first visit alone: cheap food and drinks (great food quality for the value), absolutely great ambiance and fast/attentive service. But because we came back again and had such terrible and slow service, I'm giving them 3 stars.

The drink menu is something to admire as they were really thought out and well curated. It was in all the details from presentation to garnishes. I was actually impressed with the quality . Only two come per order but pretty filling. I don't even like potatoes or fries but however the chef seasoned them and prepared the green sauce on the bottom was perfection! So I, of course, feeling the need always to explore new cocktail bars or restaurants in my hometown when visiting home, was pretty excited for the opportunity to check out Hush Hush. As a true millennial Gemini, I celebrate my birthday for the whole month, so I quickly texted my family and friends; this is where I wanted to go. What I love about Hush Hush is how it's encouraging and pushing folks to step out of their comfort zone in their attire and dress more to the vibes of this cocktail house (Think Soho, ABA, Casablanca, and Elephante). You're bound to see more desert tones, muted colors, flowy pants, basically anything resort wear. It's cool to see this cocktail house make you feel like you're not in El Paso. The music is different, more loungey, to where you can hear everyone at your table. Of course, there's still a DJ, but damn, Hush Hush is intentionally geared for those who love to go out but need top-shelf cocktails without the eye rolls or the bartenders staring at us with blank eyes. Hush Hush is a true game changer. The lines might get crazy, but I suggest getting there early so you can snag your photos and a solid table/spot. There are three main bar areas, but my fave was the velvet room. I suggest catching a drink on the second floor if you get there early enough to get an eagle eye's view of the establishment. Attention to detail was on point, and I appreciated the homework and research done before the opening of this spot. It's an elevated experience for the city and one I wish every city in the States had tbh.
