To save on heating costs, I hadn't used my furnace in several years (usually just wear layers of clothing to keep me warm when it's cold). This past winter was SO COLD, I finally decided to turn my furnace on, but nothing happened. I have a home warranty, so I called them & they put me in touch with Kool-Air Heating & Cooling. It was the night before Christmas Eve, so Salwan (Kool-Air company owner) & his son, Ali, came out the day after Christmas. My furnace is located at the back of my garage on a narrow platform ~9' above the garage floor; it's not easy to get to and there's only minimal space in which to work, with cross beams and rafters intersecting the area. It turns out my furnace was so old (original with ~50 y.o. house), several components had failed & the entire system needed replacing, which required approval from my home warranty company. Initially, my home warranty company denied my furnace replacement, saying it was too old (that's a whole other story). Over the following 5 weeks, Salwan continued to call the home warranty company on my behalf and eventually obtained approval to proceed. They purchased a new Lennox unit (which a neighbor who installs HVAC systems told me was a "really good furnace") and got to work. Because of the small work space, Ali did the bulk of the work, disconnecting & removing the old furnace and installing the new furnace. My house and the original system were so old that the vent and vent connectors did not fit with current standard components, so Salwan and Ali had to custom-make the fittings. For that reason, as well as the difficulty of working on the small platform intersected by beams and rafters, plus the heat (on an unusually warm day for this past winter), after nearly 7 hours, installation of the new furnace was not yet complete. Thus, Ali returned the following morning, working all day to finish installation and insulation of the furnace, thoroughly cleaning the area (including the complete platform) and the garage floor w/a vacuum, then installing and setting up a new digital thermostat. I love my new furnace. Fortunately, the weather has warmed up so I'm not using it right now, but I know that it's there in perfect working condition the next time I need it. Kool-Air Heating & Cooling is an excellent company. Being family-owned aloiws them the ability to offer customized/personalized service of the highest quality. Salwan and Ali are both extremely competent [Ali told me his dad has owned his own HVAC company both in their home country and here for (if I recall correctly) ~40 years, and that he has been working with his dad full-time for (I believe) ~8 yrs], thorough, and professional. Salwan is an honest and trustworthy businessman. My cost on top of what the home warranty covered was half of what I was expecting! Ali is reliable, pleasant (depite the heat and difficult working conditions), and persistent (kept working when he ran into trouble setting up the digital thermostat). My garage was left cleaner than when they began working. Equally important to their competence, both Salwan and Ali are very nice, and I felt completely comfortable and safe with them. I can not sing Salwan and Ali's praises enough! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Kool-Air Heating & Cooling company to anyone who wants their HVAC job done right at a reasonable price by truly good people!! read more

I had a unit installed in August 2024 this was through my home warranty company cinch / Sears they found this company to install they did what I thought was a good job at first recently it went out on off on off on off couldn't get hold of this guy so I had to get a check $100 then I got a Lennox authorizer to check it $85 and a 4,800 bill if I want it installed and I might get some of it paid back after fighting the insurance and the contractor's license board or whatever nobody's answering at this phone there's no answering service secretary nothing now I might have to write a letter to courtesy and I'll send it to them certified so they know or I'll stick it on the door myself right right now I don't give him anything and when it was checked the piping upstairs was wrong someone was disconnected 619-865-0035 read more

Kool-Air Heating and Cooling was recommended to us by our home warranty company. They came out and inspected our 27-year old unit and recommended replacing it. Today Salwan came out to our place in Rancho Bernardo and replaced the old unit within hours, measured the pressure and air output of the new unit and did a full inspection. If you choose to go with KOOL AIR HEATING AND COOLING be ready for terrible customer service and even worse workmanship. Unfortunately, I was forced to use KOOL AIR HEATING AND COOLING by our whole home warranty company, and there was nothing "Kool" about our experience. Their lead technician (the father) is unreasonable and difficult to communicate with. He also almost walked off the job if I didn't pay him for the work upfront which goes against the California Contractors guidelines. The contractor can only request 10% upfront or $1000, whichever is less. Unfortunately, he had me in a no-win situation with the temperature over 100deg outside. After completion of the installation, our house would not get below 77deg running 100% of the time over a 12-hour period. The suction line at the coil and the expansion valve at the condenser were both freezing over in addition to an excessive amount of cold air leaking from the coil. The icing on the cake was water leaking from the drain line because they didn't glue the PVC joints. After calling them back out to fix their work, they said there was nothing they could do and everything was fine, despite our house not being able to "Kool" below 77deg. After I sealed the coil myself with aluminum tape and plumbers putty, reinsulating the suction line, and then calling out a true professional to check our refrigerant pressure, they determined that our refrigerant pressure was too low. Once additional refrigerant our system started to system finally started to operate properly. The bottom line is if you want your house to be "Kool" during the summer months steer clear of KOOL AIR HEATING AND COOLING. read more

Stay far away from these guys!! I never write reviews but I feel I must warn people.. My insurance sent this guy out in regards to an in wall Ac unit not working.. A guy came out and opened it up and said it needs to be replaced.. The insurance approved it and he came with a new unit about 2 weeks later.. No problems so far. Then he installs it.. Ripped up the existing wood frame and the wall.. And then just left it like that.. The ac unit was a much smaller window ac unit... He needed to replace it with a wall unit.. Not window unit.. There's a difference. Will show pics of how he left it.. Shocking ! When I told him he can't leave it like this. It's an open hole! Anything can get through. Never mind what it looks like.... His words were... " That's the best I can do!" Absolutely crazy anyone can do this and leave. read more

KOOL AIR was sent by the home warranty company to fix our furnace--it was erratic; turning on and off unpredictably in the mornings. This was the third company the warranty insurance sent--the first two would not work on our dual-zone system. I was expecting another disaster... ...but Salwan showed up right on time. He assured me that he can work on dual-zone systems, and within about a half hour, he identified the problem and fixed it in another half hour. He was very friendly. He even asked me to let him know the next morning by texting him if it worked or not because our issues were always in the mornings. I really appreciated this follow-through! I highly recommend Salwan and KOOL AIR. He was extremely efficient and professional, and most importantly, FIXED THE ISSUE right away. Really fantastic service. After not having heat for 2 months while we tried to work with the initial company our home warranty recommended, they referred us to Salwan. Within the week, he came to our home and was able to quickly diagnose the issue, which required some new parts. Knowing that we had a baby, he manually restarted our HVAC system and said, it might go out again tomorrow. If it does, call me and I'll come fix it. Which it promptly did 2 days later and he was back to climb on our roof and turn it back on again. Once we got approval from the home warranty company, he was here within a day and we were back up and running in less than an hour. Really responsive and experienced! This HVAC company was contracted through our home warranty. Sometimes the contractors are hit or miss and we were very happy with Salwan's service. He was extremely nice and communicated the issues. He performed the work during a weekday, so I had asked him to call me 30 minutes beforehand so I could leave work and meet him at home which he did. He replaced our heater due to a cracked shield and its age. He modified the venting pipes since we have an older home and he made sure to test everything out to ensure it was working properly before completion. All in all, we were pleased with this company and would do business with them again! read more

They came to check out our broken AC while I was out of town. We didn't know at the time, but eventually found out the entire unit needed to be replaced. However, they told my wife it just needed to be cleaned. They charged her $350 to clean a broken unit, which was still broken after they ripped her off. Had them come back the next day because it still didn't work and they then decided the entire thing would need to be replaced. They tried to say we needed $2500 worth of extra parts, on top of what was covered by our home warranty (First American Home Warranty- also a complete scumbag company/scam). When we chose to not use them to replace it they called and said they could install immediately without the $2500 out of pocket charge, so apparently those parts weren't actually necessary either. Garbage company that tries to take advantage of unknowing customers. We ended up using ZRO Mechanical and they were great, transparent, faster, cheaper, and everything has been working with zero issues since then. Do NOT use Kool-Air. read more

Salwan and his helper, Ali, did an excellent job replacing our degraded Carrier communicating thermostat. Carrier no longer makes the thermostat and we could not replace it. The Koo-Air tech we worked with in Oct 2022 said we could eliminate the overly complex communication board and install a simpler thermostat. So we called them this week and they were out here this Saturday morning. They knew what to do and provided a simpler Honeywell thermostat. They ran into a programming problem concerning he compressor controller, but were able to reprogram it and got it working. They held to their original price as well. These gentlemen are honorable, ethical, and knowledgeable. We will employ them to replace an older Amana unit soon. My very best regards to Salwan and the Kool-Air team! read more

Unfortunately, I have to give this company a thumbs down. My home warranty outsourced the job to this company to look at my A/C unit. My A/C unit was not blowing cold air, therefore I called and placed the order with Home Club Home Warranty. They called to let me know that appt had been scheduled with Kool-Air Heating and Cooling. Unfortunately, Kool-Air and Cooling called me to say they were running late. At this point, I am understanding and said no problem. They called me again later to say they may have to reschedule and at this point, being that I had changed my schedule, I basically said it was ok to show up at the end of the day, which they did. They were in my house for less than 5 min only to tell me they had to come back and spend more time. They charged me $95.00 which I paid, with much hesitation but I did. I asked them as they were leaving, what the next step was and their answer was that they would call my home warranty to obtain authorization to fix the problem. I asked what the problem with my A/C was but they couldn't tell me because they were only here for 5 min. Fast forward 2 weeks, and I am still waiting for a response. They were sent to my house by Home Shield. They came inside my home. Opened the AC unit and told me they were gonna order replacement parts. I waited a few days and no update. Called them for information and they told me they didn't wok on the Mitsubishi model and could not help me. If I hadn't called I don't think I would have got an answer. Still charged me $120. Our air conditioner went out during a heatwave in San Diego. Salwan received our service request, promptly called back to schedule an appointment, confirmed a time a day earlier, then on the day of service call Jess to see if he could come early two hours earlier. Unfortunately we were provided terrible service. Not service at all actually. First we were promised a Friday appointment. He did not show up. So we waited on Saturday. He looked around, tried a few things and said it's working then he went outside. We specifically told him that two rooms weren't getting any air. He decided to leave without telling us. After several calls back straight to voicemail, he finally answered when I called from a different number. Then said I have two other jobs now, I'll return in 3 hours. Salwan came on a Saturday and was very professional and friendly. Fixed the issue within one hour. Problem was a recently installed thermostat (by another company) wouldn't activate the heat; it worked OK with A/C, just not heat. Salwan diagnosed the issue quickly and went to work fixing it. So I just bought a condo 3 weeks ago and something went wrong with my thermostat. No a/c, no heat, nothing.
