I've been to this dentist on several occasions and each time. I'm waiting for at least an hour before I'm called back. The front desk staff is pleasant but the wait time is extremely ridiculous and discouraging. On March 21st my appt was at 11:15. I arrived 15 mins early and was not called back until one hour later. Once we got back to see the dentist he decided that we needed x-rays. I then had to wait another 20 plus minutes for someone to acknowledge me after saying something to the tech. Friendly environment but the waiting is unacceptable. read more

Horrible experience at KOOL SMILES! The wait is ridiculous. I can see why their is a jungle gym. We got there at 10:20 our appointment was at 10:30 waited til 1 to be seen and then waited another 30 minutes back in the chair. Ridiculous. The receptionist are rude. I've gotten hung up on twice trying to call back to reschedule a appointment for my kids, after they called 6x to confirm. They refused to speak to me until my parent/guardian calls. The little girl wouldn't listen to listen to me. I'm 26. I will never go back to that place or ever refer anyone else there. 1 star for the jungle gym. read more

I will not be returning to Kool Smiles! Our appt was at 3:30 and we didn't get seen until 4:30! It was extremely crowded and overwhelming there. My kids had teeth cleaning and my last one was my son and they only cleaned the bottom teeth bc they said they were too busy and his teeth were too bad and I needed a longer appt for another cleaning! I have been going to dentist all my life and never heard such a crazy excuse in my life! They only cleaned the bottom portion of his teeth bc we didn't have enough time to do the top!!! This is definitely not a professional dentist office. They also couldn't get my older son x-rayed with the bite wings. 3 different nurses tried, after they couldn't they just referred me to another dentist that could sedate him and do it/ just pushed him to the side and went to the next! We recently took my 4 year old here. This was her first real dental experience. The waiting room was mostly chairs, with a small play area. It was very crowded, and we waited over an hour to get called back. It took over an hour for the cleaning and xrays as well. The constant changing of care providers made her very scared. There was no familiar face. The person that takes you back isn't the person that cleans your teeth. The person that cleans your teeth isn't the one that does x-rays. And then of course the dentist is a separate person. The assistant for her filling was also someone different. So in one visit, we had 6 different people. How is a child supposed to get comfortable that way? I am not sure I will be going back. I went because it is supposed to be child friendly. Besides the play area, it really wasn't. read more

I have been taking my 6 year old daughter here since last year and we absolutely love this place. The staff here are all very nice, since the moment you come in they greet you with a smile and in case of an emergency, they always make sure to accommodate you. Recently, my daughter had two ingrown teeth growing behind the two bottom teeth so they had to extract the two front bottom teeth since it was hurting her too much to the point she couldn't even eat without complaining about the pain. They had me bring her in early in the morning and Nikki the hygiene assistant was very helpful and efficient, she told me she'd only been working at Kool Smiles for a couple of weeks but she was so good at her job that I wouldn't have noticed she was new. Nikki told me about the procedure, how easy and fast it would be and that we had nothing to worry about, being a first time mom with only one child, I was sorta freaking out but she made me and my daughter feel assured everything would turn out okay. She was very warm and kind and made me feel better about the whole thing. After she took the x-rays, Dr. Abeh (I hope I got his name right!) then walked in. The Doctor was very nice and gentle and very professional, he assured me and my daughter that everything would be ok and it was. He extracted the two teeth as gently as he could and made sure she was ok afterwards. At the end, Nikki even gave my daughter a little box with the two small teeth in it. My daughter was very happy and with no pain not even the day after. Would definitely recommend this place, I assure you, you'll have a great experience just like we always do. read more

STAY FAR AWAY. The worst Dental Management in Fredericksburg. The Dentist will tell you procedures are covered when they aren't just to send you a bill by their billing company a month later telling you to pay. The wait time is horrible, 30 - 45 minutes behind. Even after you are taken back you sit for an additional 15 minutes. The don't allow Camera's or recordings because the doctors don't want to be heard providing procedures not covered by your insurance when you are told they are. They told me my daughter had a cavity after one visit, then upon returning she didn't have a cavity after I requested the Dental Hygienist to explain the x-rays which showed absolutely nothing. On 06/07/18 my daughter visited the Fredericksburg VA location of Kool Smiles. Dr. Abdel Darensburg was her assigned dentist for a resin-based composite filling. Dr. Darensburg injected her with a numbing medication and began working after approximately fifteen minutes. My daughter flinched as soon as pressure was applied. She used the pre arranged signal of a raised hand to stop the procedure. She advised Dr. Darensburg that she felt pain. He again injected her, waited two minutes and began drilling her tooth. My child again used the hand signal to stop the procedure and stated she could still feel pain. Dr. Darensburg stated "This sh!t is getting old". I agree Dr. Darensburg, your unacceptable bedside manner is getting old. I prefer a pediatric dental visit without profanity so we will not be returning to Kool Smiles in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Perhaps Dr. Darensburg should find a profession that does not include working with children. read more

I called to schedule my two boys a follow up appointment for fillings. They were able to get them in the next day which was awesome. When we showed up they told me that one of my boys didn't need a follow up appointment (fillings). Which is not what I was told at his cleaning appointment nor was I told that over the phone while scheduling a filling appointment. Very poor communication!! Our appointment was at 2pm and they finished with my son at 4pm. He had two fillings done, small filings. That's ridiculous, it should not take 2 hours to do two fillings. This office is extremely slow, poor communication, and lack of respect for their patients time. A few pieces of advice to operate smoother...communicate with your patients, if they are scheduling an appointment make sure they really need that appointment. If the Doctor or Hygienist are running behind let your other patients in the waiting room know (that's just common sense and good manners). Not happy with Kool Smiles. Called 2 weeks prior to our appt. gave them my insurance information. Kool Smiles call at least 6 times to confirm appt including day of appt. Get my kids ready and head out to our appt. 10 min. from arriving to their office I receive a call from Kool Smile stating they don't accept my insurance. They had my insurance information for two weeks and didn't verify before our appt. What kind of business is this? read more

First off my app. for both my girls was at 10:30am, I arrived at 10:20am (already having filled out all needed paperwork for the first app) We did not get called back until 11:25am. When we got back there you did not get the doctors undivided attention, b/c he was to busy caring for everyone else he was back and fourth the entire visit. Both of my girls had 1 cavitity each and they said I would have to make another app. to get them filled. We did not leave until 1:30pm so they missed a whole day of school for a dentist app. read more

What an absolutely horrible experience at KOOL SMILES. I will never go back to that place or ever refer anyone else there. The dentists were super, but the rest... the wait, the bedside manor, the time it took to be seen - awful experience! Our appointment was 3:30. I arrived at 3:05 to fill out all paperwork before the appointment. They were not even taken back until 4:45. They were sat in chairs then waited for another 30min to even be seen by anyone! The boys were supposed to be side by side so I could be close to each- that didn't happen until I made them clean off a chair that was next to my youngest son. I told them up front that both boys have autism, short attention spans, and my youngest has severe sensory regulatory disorder. So tell me why we were taken back first and literally watched 6 other kids (that came in after the boys) get cleaned and taken care of BEFORE the boys?? I lit into one of the dentists and finally they had someone start on the boys. I requested that if any work was to be done that both boys were to have it done the same day due to the difficulty it takes to even get my youngest in the door- nope- that didn't happen either. They didn't schedule enough time! We were there from 3:05 - 6:15! UNREAL!!! Then, as my boys saw all of the other children leaving with goodie bags with new toothbrushes, etc, they were told that the shipment hadn't come in and they ran out. As I walked out with very disappointed, grumpy, overwhelmed children - a nurse came out after us running after a family with two children with goodie bags and said, "I almost forgot to give you these!" I was stunned, the boys asked why they didn't get anyway - it was just a nightmare! An absolute nightmare. read more

This placed canceled appointments with my husband several times. He was never notified, in fact he received a call the day of confirming his appointment only to find out it was canceled when he got there. They also billed me for work my insurance company already paid for and attempted to collect balances outside the allowable amount per contract. This was six months ago and it is still not resolved. This place is awful and incompetent from the top down. Please go somewhere else and spare yourself the headache. read more

I have been going here a while and it is the same every time and I have had enough. So I took my two kids a day ago just for a cleaning, we got there at 945 and waited in the lobby until 11:17 before we got called back, due to being short handed like always and to many patients trying to been seen, but after being in the back waiting for them to clean, do x rays, have the dentist come plus waiting for them to put the fluoride on there teeth it was 12:50 when we left. So 3 hours that is crazy, I would suggest to find another dentist for you and your kids, It is not worth the wait just so your kids can play. read more

I have been taking my son here for years and the 1 time I can not take him and my mother was taking him for me he was turned away because of their lack of organization skills as to making sure I had all forms updated....if I could rate a zero I definitely would but unfortunately it's impossible! My first visit was horrible. We went in for initial cleanings for appointments arrived and did not leave until almost 1pm. When I inquired with the wait we were told staff called out. But we waited in the back all that time AND until I had to get my kids to school to leave and reschedule once I got to the front desk it was an explanation that staff called out. Well at what point was anyone going to tell parents already in the back? Yet you told every new parent coming in? I know things happen when running a business but the Office Manager had to be asked to come out of her office so she could help. My first experience but I will give them another chance. read more

I had to reschedule three times, due to their error. I had a Saturday appointment and they said one time and then scheduled the appointment for another time, which was one that I know I would not of agreed too (due to a soccer game). So I then re-scheduled the appointment for a Friday afternoon and they had an hygenist issue come up and they cancelled the appointment less than half an hour of the appointment time, over my voicemail. My daughter and her father were already at the office, checked in, and they still refused to take them. The receptionist said we had to reschedule, and was unwilling to work with us for a late appointment or a Saturday appointment. Her response was every child had school and all parents had to work so we just had to deal with her missing school and me having to take off of work. I called their office to speak to someone, was transferred to a voicemail, and my call was never returned. I rescheduled for the latest appointment on a Wednesday, because my daughter needed her cleaning, and I was waiting for 30 minutes before we were even taken back. Once we were back they were great with my daughter but they have alot of issues they need to fix. read more
