After I inquired about a vehicle listed online, Chris went right outside and recorded a video walkaround of the whole vehicle including the undercarriage, which he texted to me. He made sure to highlight and discuss a few minor cosmetic issues in full transparency, which impressed me. Later, Chris and his managers were flexible with allowing a longer test drive so I could have my usual mechanic take a look. Finally, when it came time to talk math, it was a straightforward and respectful conversation. My entire family, Mom, Dad, Sister, and myself have been loyal Koons customers for 18 years. Bought three or four cars there. Called a few weeks ago looking for a Sienna and was told the markup over MSRP was $5000 or $7500, depending on the model but was told that it was negotiable since I was such a long-time customer. Went yesterday to put in a formal request for a Sienna and could not believe the sales manager. Told me the best he could do is $1000 off. Told him I had the Truecar sales data and 14 Siennas had sold for MSRP in this area in the last month. Told me he didn't care, they don't work with truecar anymore. I couldn't believe how little he cared if I bought a car. I know the dealer has the upper hand in this market, but I didn't expect that arrogance right out in the open. Called Browns Toyota and Sheehy Toyota. Both were much friendlier and are NOT marking any cars up over MSRP. Left two messages for the GM at Koons to see if they could do any better given our family's loyalty. Never got a call back. Amazing how 18 years and over $100,000 of business suddenly doesn't matter when they're making easy money. read more

Disappointed a 35,000 mile service, no oil change involved, shouldn't take 1 hour 43 minutes and counting, I had an appointment and apparently so did everyone else Maybe the Service department over scheduled either way it SUCKS for the customer. Now I'm called in for concerns, keep in mind the 35,000 mike check is the first one out of warranty... and I should think about a 4 wheel alignment, throttle body cleaning, air conditioning REALLY? Just all the sudden, I bring my car in every 5,000 miles and not once has a concerned been raised green checked all the way down the list , but now I need all this, okay whatever, 2nd opinion please... I wish I wouldn't have extended my service contract with them because it's funny how things change when it's out of warranty. Ridiculous workmanship. We took car in to fix a recall and they left the work area on the car dirty and it's clear as day. Review based on used sales dept. I called in regard to a car I saw online, made the call and spoke to Lev. The car was not on the lot and said he will have it back at 4pm after its inspection. He guaranteed it would be there and tucked in the back so I would be the first to test drive it. Lev told me his buddy J.D. would be taking care of me since he was off that day. The salesman, Mauricio, was very helpful and patient and stayed in touch over the coming days to let us know the vehicle, a high demand make and model, was still available. We went back a few days later and purchased the car with a fair trade in, but it was the end of a month so they were very busy and the documentation and purchase steps took a bit longer than we had expected, more like two plus hours versus one, but for the most part, the experience we had was top notch and the customer concern and attention was evident. read more

Bought a used Land Cruiser from them. It was underpriced and the salesman was eager to sell it. They lowered the price a few hundred dollars to get me in. Everyone kept pushing the $4,000 "extended warranty" from the moment I came in...usually that's something the finance guy pushes at the end not, as soon as you hit the test drive. I didn't buy it. I got home and after a few days found out the Land Cruiser had a busted radiator only after I had gone over the silly 1,000 mile 30 day warranty. Pretty sure the dealer knew the radiator was bad but they didn't want to repair it at their cost. They wanted me to buy the warranty and repair at my cost essentially. They were going to charge nearly $3,000 to repair it. I took it to Overland 4x4 and had the radiator replaced for $1,200. Koons is kinda shady. read more

To keep it short, called about the car I ended up buying in advance as it was 2+ hrs away, asked them to give me a virtual walk around, Scott said the car was "nearly flawless" although I found out later it had been hot in the front AND the back AND had A MAJOR scratch along the drivers side AND I just found out the reason one of my tires kept going flat ever so slowly is because the rim is bent! Koons, you guys really need to step up your game when it comes to your service department. I bought a 2019 Camry from you guys and I have to say I have been less than impressed. I took my car in every 5,000 miles for my service/oil changes. When I went in for my 30,000 mile service I asked the service manager if tires were supposed to be rotated at each of these services and he said yes. I then informed him my tires had never been rotated. The reason I knew this was because I had a very slow leak in my front drivers side tire and that tire, with its slow leak, never moved from that position. I noted that when the 30,000 service was done that tire had finally been rotated. I also was having a problem between my radio and rear defroster. When ever I turned on the rear defrost my radio would flood with static. I was told that an update had to be applied and that would resolve the issue. Before I left that day I turned on the radio then turned on the rear defroster and surprise....still nothing but static. I had the service manager come out and listen and he said he would mark that as a need that still had to be resolved. Both of these issues pale in comparison to my irritation today. I had damaged my passenger side engine splash shield and needed to get it replaced. I called and set up an appointment to get the splash guard replaced. I got an appointment and took my car in on the 5th, by which time the shield had come completely off. They confirmed what I believed the problem to be and had to order the part. I was told they expected that the part would be there by 10:00 am the next day and they would call me to schedule the appointment when they confirmed receipt of the part. I got no call the following day, or the day after that, or the day after that so I called them on Saturday the 8th and, after being put on hold for awhile, I was told the part was in. I set up an appointment for Monday the 10th. I had to reschedule due to illness and brought my car in on Wednesday the 12th. I had an appointment at 9:30 and when I was checking in I asked them to recheck the radio defroster issue. Since I had also added a four wheel alignment to the ticket, I was told I should be ready by 12:30, and went into their customer customer lounge to wait. At 12:08 the service manager James came to talk to me. He told me the part they ordered was actually two pieces and only one piece had come in. The other piece was due to come in tomorrow. He asked if I wanted to have done what could be done today and I told him no. He said the part would be there tomorrow and he would triple check that it was in before he called me to set up an appointment. By the time I left there it was just about 12:30. So I got out of there when it had been estimated, the problem being that NONE of the work got done. I don't know if they fixed the radio issue, I was to irritated to want to check it at that point. So my entire morning and early afternoon was blown and nothing got done. Koons, I think you owe me something on this one for my wasted time and aggravation. Did the buy online option. Went in to finalize and pay. Price jump up $7k. We're told we have to fill out credit app for "proof of identity " like Real ID and military ID aren't enough. They won't run a credit check though. Even sales manager reassured us. No hard check. Lied right to our face. Credit Karma informed us of a drop in credit score due to hard hit by Koons. Bait and switch. Multiple lies. Worst dealer experience ever. I would go anywhere else. Stay away from Koons. I do not trust their service department and will never bring my Toyota here again. Last year my FJ Cruiser needed new front rotors and pads. However, this dealer charged me for rear brakes service. Less than a week later the front brakes failed. I still don't know what Koons Toyota did to the front/rear brakes (if anything), but I did learn from another Toyota dealer in Virginia that a front brake line was leaking fluid and a front brake caliper was missing one of its bolts. Thankfully, my daughter (who was driving the car when the brakes failed) was able to bring the FJ to a complete stop (she was going uphill), avoid an accident, and have the FJ towed. I was out of town when the service and brake failure occurred and didn't notice the discrepancy between what I asked (front brake maintenance) and what I was charged (rear brakes). Eventually a third Toyota dealer made all the necessary repairs. What you read comes from Toyota's receipts. It's this kind of activity that turns me away from the Toyota brand - why would I want to buy a Toyota if it means having to triple my drive time to the next nearest Toyota dealer for service? Until I learn what this dealer is doing differently so that what happened to me won't happen to anyone else (Koons Toyota knows about the brake loss), I cannot in good conscience go back to this dealer for any other service nor do I recommend anyone else bring their Toyota to this dealer for brake maintenance. read more

Ok experience overall. We confirmed the out the door price with our sales person. The sales person (and later, in person, the sales manager, Scott) assured me that when the new specials came out the following day they would make changes to the deal in order for me to buy that day and make the 2.5 hour trip from Philadelphia. Once the previous two things were agreed on we made the trip down. The car was perfect and the dealership was nice. Unfortunately, after agreeing to buy the car the sales manager, Scott, informed me that they did not price it correctly and had to add $800. The finance guy, Victor, was very helpful and definitely the highlight of customer service for our experience. The next day when the specials came out the sales manager and sales person conveniently forgot about our conversation and I missed out on the additional $250 rebate. I recently bought my second car from Koons. I worked with Henry Reynolds to purchase the vehicle. He was extremely friendly, helpful and efficient. I had to close the purchase before departing on a trip and he helped me reduce the time in the store by at least half. There was a small administrative error in some of the paperwork so Henry came to my house so I could resign paperwork and not be inconvenienced. I think this was well beyond the call of duty! Koons had my vehicle for two weeks (one whole week of delays) over a pump that caused a transmission failure. Techs told me that there was no way of knowing that the pump went bad especially since there is no check engine sensor for it and that there was no way of preventing the failure. I had asked to speak to a GM over the two week span repeatedly and all individuals I spoke to diverted me to someone else besides the GM. The vehicle ran great until the morning it failed. Over 7000 bucks later and the business they've costed me, I'm seeing that electronics are missing from my car and my dash cam was unplugged. read more

The general manager (Wendell Williams) returned my call four days later after I called him every day. He was very combative. His opening comment was "you called us crooks." I corrected him saying I did not say you were crooks, I said your prices were unreasonable. He responded, "You signed the invoice." Yes I did because I needed to get back to work and I trusted the statement at the bottom of your invoice, "If you are not 100% satisfied, please let us know so that we can help you."" Mr. Williams claims their prices are competitive. I explained that I save all my receipts from other dealers and they are not. When I asked him to explain the $54 added for Shop Supplies he said, "That's what we charge." Mr. Williams ended our brief conversation with, "I'm not interested in discussing this further." Wow. It was okay. The waiting area was nice, and the representative was nice. However, I had sticker shock after taking my car in for an oil change and tire rotation (i.e. $111). Maybe the metro DC area oil change/tire rotations are higher than what I am used to. It also took 2.5+ hours to service the vehicle. They did want to fix a few other things including spark plugs. I am not sure why they couldn't find the service record that I had my spark plugs replaced 6 months earlier. At least they printed it out all the service records. However, I keep all my records, and it was an easy find once I returned home. I am probably going to take the inconvenience of driving 1.5 hours to go to the Toyota dealership that originally sold me the car I have for the oil change/tire rotation. My oil changes there are "free". I had been going to them since 2002, and never had sticker shock. Otherwise, I will just take this car to a regular mom and pop store near Fort Meade that was really great about giving me good service for a decent price, and they completed the work within the promised time-frame which I find to be unusual. read more

I've had mixed experiences at Koons Toyota. All the maintenance I've had performed at Koons has been under the new car TototaCare free maintenance up to 25,000 miles plan. Today's servicing was a simple oil change, tire rotation and multi-point inspection (the 20,000 mile service recommended in the manual). I made an appointment more than a week in advance, arrived and checked in early, and the servicing still took over two hours. The work itself only only takes about 20 minutes to perform, which leads me to believe that they don't really adhere to any particular schedule in the garage, regardless of whether or not your have an appointment. Bottom line, this dealership takes a long time to perform simple tasks. Bring a book, because the advertised internet doesn't work there either. The second, and biggest point I have to make is that their multi-point inspection practices are questionable at best, and borderline illegal. The mechanics reported that my cabin air filter was dirty and in need of changing, a service they wanted to charge me a substantial amount more than the $15 the filter costs to perform. I know this because I had just bought one from American Auto Parts a few blocks away, and had installed it that morning in about five minutes. This being said, one of two conclusions can be made. Either 1) the mechanics never inspected the filter, which is the likeliest scenario considering I had a small shopping bag underneath the glove compartment that had not moved, which they would have moved to inspect the filter (located behind the glove box) OR 2) they inspected it and are trying to take advantage of me anyway by offering me a service that they know I don't need. If they aren't performing this checklist item, what other items are they NOT inspecting either? Are they changing the oil? The oil filter? Are they even rotating the tires? I am going to pay more attention to which tires are on which spot next time. Another thing to note is that routine maintenance appointments check in at the "Express" counter rather than the "Servicing" counter. Just a heads up so you don't wait in line like an idiot only to be directed to the idle desk with no line. They need to label their desks better. As I waited, I saw practically every person needing routine maintenance go to the incorrect counter first. Such an easy fix, but a indication of ineffective business management. Although my experience have never been great there, things have actually improved since my first appointment. I made an appointment with them about six months ago in the morning for an early afternoon oil change. When I showed up, they claimed I never made an appointment and denied I had even spoken with them at all, ever. The place was a disorganized mess, and I'm pretty sure they got new management since then because it's like a new dealership now. That being said, it's expensive and they don't offer any incentives. No free car wash with servicing or anything, all you get is some cheap coffee in the waiting area. When you are trusting your vehicle with a garage, you are putting your safety in their hands, and you pay a premium to do so. While I will likely continue to have my vehicle serviced by Koons, their repeated performance has been sub-par, with questionable business practices. The only real reason I like going there is because of it's proximity to my favorite coffee shop, Cafe Pronto (now Ceremony Coffee Roasters, right across the street on Russell). I like getting a good cup while I wait for my car. Do I trust Koons, after four servicing appointments? Nope. But the customer service people are really nice and I have faith that they can improve. read more

This review is based on customer service and auto service for a factory recall. I take my car which I purchased at the Toyota in Clarksville to Hilmuth Auto. However my mother said I kept getting notices and phone calls at my childhood address to take the car in for an airbag recall. I scheduled at Koons knowing I would be in Annapolis later that day. I was able to book an appointment with the service department no problem for last Thursday. My window of time was from 11 am to about 2 pm so I utilized the shuttle service. Katherine was so friendly, funny, and courteous. She is an exemplary employee and truly seems to enjoy her job and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service. It's a complimentary service, to be dropped off and picked up in the Annapolis area. I decided to go to lunch in Eastport. Katherine was prompt picking me up and also dropped myself and another lady off during the lunch hour when most likely the other employees didn't want to. The lounge area is also very nice, clean, and has wifi and coffee as well as tvs and reading material. I enjoyed sitting on one of the low seats with a nearby charger to charge my phone. They also have a charging station with built in cords in case you forgot your own. While I haven't bought a vehicle here I can say that the service was stellar and I wasn't pressured to take my car here which I anticipated. I figured, why would they install new air bags for free and not try and win my business for future maintenance. However no one pressured me at all. I was in and out within the quoted time and am very relieved that the airbag situation has been taken care of. read more

I scheduled an appointment at Koons because my local/private mechanic was too busy and my AC had stopped working (it was at/near 100 degrees that week). I was told the repair would be $1,300 and that about $800 of that would be from the AC compressor cost, which was unable to be located in an after-market part and would take five days to order from Toyota. I was also told that my water pump was leaking and needed to be repaired for an additional $590. I paid $200 for the dealership to diagnose the problem, but declined the repair work due to cost (I did, however, pay $125 for them to install a new battery). I took the car to my local/private mechanic two days later when he had an opening. He searched Amazon and found a new Mopar after-market AC compressor for $250 shipped with two-day shipping. I bought it and had him install it for a fraction of the cost. He also checked my water pump and failed to find any leak or anything wrong with it. read more

I took my car here once for scheduled maintenance (oil change, tire rotation, etc.) and a few hours later, I get a phone call from the service department telling me that my car needs $650 worth of work in order to keep it running, and that its "urgent" that I take care of all the problems. Now, mind you, my car is only 4 years old and runs well and has NEVER needed that much work... Ever!!! Maybe it's the fact that I'm a young woman who dropped off the car alone? Who knows. But I'm not stupid. Just to be safe, I took my car to two other mechanics in the area afterwards and both said there was NOTHING wrong with my car and it didn't need any of the work Annapolis Toyota claimed it needed. They were just trying to rip me off. Even though I live in Annapolis, I take my car to Toyota of Bowie or Precision Auto Care. At least they're honest and they don't rip me off. To add to the aggravation, Toyota of Annapolis continually calls me and sends me letters in the mail asking me to "trade in" my car. I've told them that I'm not interested, since I purchased the car used, but they continue to harass me. Highly recommended that you take your car somewhere else. This place is not honest. read more
