Good little diner very friendly. Decent food at the right price. Not pretty to look at but does the job.

My first time visiting this place and I was pleasantly surprised for a few reasons. Since it was on Central and the front looked a bit like a generic strip shopping center I wouldn't have guessed they had outdoor patio seating. You enter through the rear which has an adorable little area with 4 or so small tables with potted plants and flowering shrubs. Our food was really good. I got the Cobb salad which will be repeated next time I go. Huge salad with a huge amount of grilled chicken on top. My husband got the Reuben which was very tasty. We loved their house brewed Iced tea. And our server was so friendly and took great care of us. I just don't know, why I didn't go sooner? read more

Kopper kitchen is a cut above your average every day diner. I ordered the 2egg breakfast ($9.83)and added a side of 2 sausage patties ($5.46). The sunny side up eggs were very good. The bacon was crisp. The sausage patties were delicious and the hashbrowns were nicely done. An important note: the salt and pepper shakers were very clean and had all the holes free of obstruction. I can't remember the last time I was in a diner where I didn't have to sprinkle the salt or pepper for a long time in order to get a decent amount out of the container, the kopper kitchen, salt and pepper were easy flowing and I was able to season my meal with just a couple of shakes. Great food and large portions! Almost everything homemade - rolls, pies, entrees even several of the salad dressing! The furnishings are 1960's era and there were lots of locals. The place was hopping with parking in the back. Server was a dynamo named "Debby". I loved it. read more

Well, I've had a couple of different things and truthfully it's just average. Dried out omelette one time room temperature pancakes a second time just not really impressed. On a rare occasion eating out by myself, I arrived in St Pete an hour early for an attorney meeting. I had dropped my wife off at Tampa Cruise Terminal for a cruise and not stopped to eat. Checked and Kopper Kitchen was close and nice ratings, so went there. At lunchtime and they were very busy. Through the small parking lot once and luckily caught a car leaving so grabbed the spot. Seated within 5 minutes, with water and menu. I decided on French Toast since it would be quick to make and eat. As I glanced around and listened, the place seemed very homey, with many regular customers. Displays of copper pots and pans, even a copper door to the kitchen, really accented the name. Small but very comfy. I felt like a neighbor, not a stranger. My meal came quickly, despite being busy. My French Toast was moist and crisp and flavorful. This was one of my go to lunch places for decades. The new owners are so greedy they actually charge a fee for the lettuce and tomato for your hamburger. The prices on the menu are not the same as the bill. They charge a hidden 4% charge to the bill. They do disclose this ridiculous tactic in the fine print. (which no one ever reads.) The salads are not as good as they were before, even though they say the recipes are the same. St Pete has lost another good restaurant. read more

Was a favorite place for breakfast and especially lunch with the daily specials. Started to decline after Fred left but on a free fall now. New staff and very inexperienced and the food is a tragedy. Mashed potatoes were reheated on the daily special and had no wheat rolls and the white roll came cold at the end of meals after asking twice. Gravy was tasteless thick from corn starch. Salads were skimpy and dressing a plastic container. No more homemade and very inexperienced kitchen staff. Will not see this professional couple and associates in the future! Very sad. read more

What a breath of fresh air this place is. If you're not paying attention you will pass right by, and you will miss an amazing breakfast. My omelette was delicious, the grits were creamy, the bacon was crispy and the toast was delicious. The sweet tea was delicious the staff were all very friendly, busy and attentive. The Kopper Kitchen is like something from the old days. The food is good along with good service and even better is they serve breakfast all day which is near and dear to my stomach. The one issue that bothers me is there's no internet service available so if you're dining alone you can only twiddle your thumbs while waiting for your order. KK has super breakfast and lunch! On the weekends you can get the special eggs benedict (pro move is to sub the ham for avocado which always is perfectly ripe!) and if you are craving lunch over breakfast you have to try the veggie Rueben even if you eat meat. A really GOOD sandwich. read more

99 CENT SURCHARGE to PAY with a DEBIT CARD? SHAME ON YOU! I am going to write this review plain and simple. For me, it DOES NOT matter how good or bad the food, atmosphere or service might have been on my visit today. In today's world, accepting credit and debit cards is a COST of doing business! Period! Most of what retailers can and cannot do involving credit and debit cards is governed by their contracts with the card companies, not by state or federal laws. BUT, debit transaction surcharges are banned nationwide and Florida bans any types of surcharges on credit transactions. Yet I was charged a 99 cent surcharge on my debit card transaction. Most retailers build the cost of credit/debit transactions into their prices OR they give a 'discount' to anyone using cash. These are perfectly acceptable. This is a NEGATIVE consumer experience all the way around. For me today, I had no cash and it was imperative that I pay by debit card. I resented having to pay a 99 cent surcharge! Especially since I know it's a no-no. Okay, so what did I get for the price of my meal PLUS 99 cents? I got the small Greek salad. It was decent with a lot of potato salad mixed in and fine shreds of Feta cheese. Not the best or the worst I've had. Service was decent, but my server seemed rushed, and it was not crowded at 1:15 in the afternoon. She did not introduce herself by name(Restaurant 101). I waited a bit for a refill on my tea. I was doing okay with my meal experience until I went up to the cashier to pay and was 'asked' if I minded paying a 99 cent surcharge. That's when it went downhill for me. I told her to go ahead. What was I to do, with no cash? I guess it MAY be possible that had I responded "I do mind, and I'm not going to pay that surcharge" that she might have processed my debit card without adding the surcharge. BUT, this should NEVER be a question or a possibility. NO SURCHARGE.....PERIOD! I'll not be back. End of review. read more

I picked this place because I years they had good gluten free options. I didn't see much on the menu that I could eat really. They did have gluten free bread but have notes on their menu that they are not a gluten free place and there will likely be cross contamination. I ordered iced coffee and the tofu scramble. The scramble tasted good but was full of tomato and peppers, which I can't have. I picked through it and are what I could. It was very strong with turmeric flavor. I also had gluten free toast with jelly. I was disappointed it wasn't homemade jelly. It tasted just like smuckers. My husband has biscuit and gravy. I have never seen him leave a plate like that but he really took one bite and found a piece of foil or something in it. I was a bit disappointed at this place. The wait staff was very nice. My husband and I were out running errands and realized we needed lunch. We drove past Kopper Kitchen and had just a half hour before getting our son from school. I unfortunately didn't get the name of our waitress but she was very attentive, and when I said it was the best tea I've ever had, she said she makes it herself! (So hopefully you're reading this and you know who you are!) The atmosphere is nostalgic for me with its colorful booths, quirky but tasteful decor, and vintage wooden chairs. It was hard to pick between a daily special (today's was Italian baked chicken) and a Reuben. The Reuben I got was amazing!! NYC diner quality -- If you know you know! And if you know, you also know that a lot of diners in Saint Pete are masquerading as the real deal (looking at you, downtown). If you're a tea junkie and constantly on the hunt for a legit diner like me, do yourself a favor and go there for lunch any day of the week! This restaurant has never been particularly good, but it is very conveniently located for us. We've been coming for years and I've been told not to review it for all of those years. They were clearly in the weeds today and we were as considerate as possible since we have about 40 years of restaurant management experience amongst us. However, today they decided to add cucumbers to their veggie omelette which didn't sit right with my mother. She orders the veggie omelette at least once a week and didn't want to eat this ~new~ variation. She simply asked that it be removed from the bill. We specifically stated that we would happily pay for the sides individually. No complaints were launched at that time (despite many that could have been made). To our surprise, we were met with some serious HOSTILITY. The new owner, Audri, gave major attitude at the table. She insisted that that's the way it has always been, it has not, and was incredibly agitated when I mentioned that cucumbers are fruit. As we left, I asked the host for miss Audri's name which prompted her to CHASE us out to the parking lot and SCREAM at us. All because I mentioned that cucumbers are fruit... This diner is a hidden gem. I can't believe I've lived in St. Pete for 15 years and have never been here, but I had not been aware they had a tofu scramble until recently. Finding breakfast places is tough for a vegan so whenever I find somewhere with a decent vegan option, I'm sold. The diner itself is really cute and service was very friendly and quick. I had tofu scramble with avocado and a green smoothie. Both of which were tasty and priced well. My husband had the Benedict with cheese grits and he enjoyed his meal too. I think we found a place we both can eat at that isn't overpriced. We will definitely be back. Be aware: they are closed on sundays and are cash only. read more

On a recommendation from a local shop down the road, we were starving and needed a quick bite. What's not to love? It's 5 stars because it's top notch for this type of establishment. It's right on Central Ave, it's jam packed and tells you that you can't go wrong, the menu is like the best of the best for diners and the food and service is GREAT! I ordered a simple combo platter that consisted of a huge tuna scoop, a huge egg salad scoop and a huge potato salad scoop over some lettuce, some red tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado and a few black olives. Perfect. It was all very crisp and fresh looking and I enjoyed the entire thing! My husband had a Reuben and I am not a big fan of corned beef, but it was so lean, sliced really thin and it was excellent! Our server, Patti, was ever so nice.
