Don't let the order at the counter format fool you - this place has great food and service. The nice guy behind the counter was very helpful explaining the menu and helping us customize our order to suit a Carnivore, Omnivore, and Herbivore. Yes they have some great Vegan and Gluten Free options, but for and Apex Predator like me you can order extra meat extra spicy. If you want adventure order the rice cake to substitute for rice. Costs a little more and not a typical rice cake - think dumpling or gnocchi. My wife did not like the chicken teriyaki because it was dry and no additional sauce was available. My daughter had Japchei with Tofu sweet potato noodle, vegetables and you pick of protein. The spicy marinated Koriente pickles were awesome complement. read more

Slow on posting reviews. My bad. This is a great lunch place. It's Asian ramen noodle fusion with lots of varieties of things to eat. I've only had the bowls (chicken okabe and spicy chicken and rice) but I've also only eaten lunch here. Parking is rough. Uber is your friend. Enjoy!! read more

it was my first time here, i ordered the summer roll, obake A added fried egg n half rice half noodle, mix mix bowl added tuna/ salmon. total $27. i was a bit disappointed when it only came with rice only ( didn't notice till i finished half bowl since i was hungry) and i was not sure if i was charged extra for ordering half rice half noodle for my bowl since cashier didn't give me receipt afterward. the food was okay. i love korean food and korean fusion. but the dish here s more like vegie mixed/ salad for me, not much of flavor or ingredients that i expected for korean food, except they use japchae noodle n korean rice.... the portion is small for me.. i do love the atmosphere here. other than that, i dont think i ll come back. read more

Cheap, delicious and hard to beat in the downtown area. It's a hidden gem, right next to Holy Mountain. The shiitake mushrooms are worth ordering on any dish. And I'm not a vegetarian but most of the time I order tofu over chicken or beef because it's so good here. Koriente deserves a bigger space. There's rarely enough seating inside, but don't let that stop you from checking it out. They have an outdoor patio too. read more

Excellent food and service. Been here several times and always had my expectations far exceeded. Today, I even had a gentleman behind the counter take extra time to ensure I enjoyed my dish. Nice place. Friendly staff. Very Austin weird and laid back. I had the seared tuna. They recommended it rare. I sent it back for another touch of the grill. Where I come from the tuna is supposed to be warm inside. Might be a translation error. We were five people and ordered up and down the menu from vegetarian to chicken teriyaki. I'm not understanding how this is a 4.5 on 1200 reviews. I had the obake with tofu. Props for fresh tofu not fried. Also owner is very friendly and personable. But I'm sorry, I come for the entre. Quantity and value was decent-good, but taste was not a net 4.5 IMO. The biggest turnoff for me was low quality chicken. Rest of the bowl just wasn't that special. read more

We ordered food to be delivered. One dish came with no sauce on the side or the removal of one ingredient as we asked. The other was so salty it was inedible. So we reordered the dish that came without the sauce and it came the same way a second time. And this too, was almost too salty to eat. With all of the amazing places to eat in Austin, we will not try this one again. read more

Staff was incredibly friendly and the food was very good. I liked how there was a lot of variation in the menu. The ambiance is also pleasing with cute and unique decorations. People tell me that my reviews are not very useful. I have heard your complaints and incorporated them into this review. Koriente is located at the corner of 7th street and Sabine street between Red River and the I-35 Frontage Rd. 7th street is located between 6th street and 8th street. It is a one way street with the flow of traffic heading east. You can park on the street in front of the building if you can find a spot. You will have to pay the meter if you park there Monday thru Friday from 8am to 5pm. There are also numerous pay parking lots within walking distance. For example, there is a lot on 7th street between Trinity and Neches streets. Koriente is located next to the Beauty Bar and across the street from Creekside Lounge. To enter Koriente please use the door. I believe you can pull it or push it in order to open it. When you walk in the door you will see a counter with a register, this is where you order. If there is a line in front of the register (which can go out to the street on occasion), please wait behind the last person in line. I will note at this time that if you plan on eating and/or drinking please bring some sort of payment with you (credit card, cash, atm card, etc.) so you can purchase any goods as payment is required at this establishment. In order to purchase food or drink, please look at the menu because this is where the items for purchase are listed. If you need time to figure out what you want, please allow people behind you to go ahead if they are ready. This is called being polite. When you are ready to purchase items please proceed to the cash register (when it is your turn). Tell the person behind the cash register exactly what you want. If you would like to substitute items or add items please tell the person at this time. The employee may ask you questions in order to clarify your order, please answer them to the best of your ability. I'm trying to be stingy-er with my five star ratings, but this place truly deserves the full monty five. I rate my restaurant experiences on three different aspects: service, quality of food, atmosphere. This place covers all bases, so if you're not wanting to read my full ramble, just stop reading and getcho' hungry self to Koriente. Service: The girl today at the register who takes your order was a peach! Very helpful when it comes to making recommendations and explaining the menu to Koriente newbies, and even gave me and my co worker a free refill of their BOMB cinnamon iced to tea to-go. XoXo to her! Our food came out fast, and everyone in the place is extremely friendly. Quality of Food: I ordered the mixmix with spicy chicken, an egg, and avocado, and did half rice half noodles. Best decision I've made all day, and I'll get to make it again tonight when I finish eating the other half. Oh, and I don't feel bad about putting any part of that meal into my body since it's all very fresh, clean food. I feel like a certain song by Outkast applies. If you are vegan, vegetarian, or trying to eat clean, this place is your haven (Haven, not heaven. Everyone knows heaven is located at 1415 S. Congress Avenue at a little place also referred to as Homeslice). Anyhoo... I had a bite of my co-worker's spicy chicken with broccoli and rice, and it was waaay delish! The cinnamon iced tea is out of this world, and as I mentioned earlier, my co worker and I loved it so much we had to take some back to the office to go so we could sip it all day. I will be back to try the bubble tea, the wraps and the Rice Medallion Saute very soon. And probably drink a beer. Atmosphere: Perfect. Know before you go that this is a small place, so if you're planning on visiting during peak feeding times, get ready to get a lil' cozy with your fellow humans. There's a decent amount of seating inside with super comfy, unexpectedly bouncy chairs at some of the tables. They also have a cool area you can sit outside which is a major factor in why I give places five stars. Not sure if it's pet friendly, but if so, even more reason why this place is so awesome. Koriente is a cool little place. Everything is fresh and tasty, and alarmingly healthy. I used to eat there probably three times a week when I worked on 6th Street. They have this awesome Japchae - clear noodles sauteed with veggies and beef. The appetizer size serving is actually quite a nice portion, if you pair it with miso soup. The miso soup is really good because it usually has a couple of jalepeno slices floating in it, giving it a little bit of heat. You can get a couple of sushi rolls, but I don't love them and they've overpriced for veggie rolls. The bulgoki is pretty good, and the milk teas are awesome. Try the jasmine green milk tea. It is a nummy treat. read more

It's not quite as satisfying as going to a normal Korean restaurant, but it's super healthy, which ultimately makes me feel better about myself, and my calorie consumption after I've had a few adult beverages. Bimbim bap that is half salad is great for making you feel less guilty about inhaling an entire bowl in 10 minutes. And free soup or ice cream with our meal adds to the great value of this place. Topped off with a uber-friendly staff and speedy service, I highly recommend it for a weekday lunch or a pre-heavy drinking meal to make you not feel a little less guilty about scarfing a quesadilla at 3 in the morning (not hypothetical). read more

So this rating may be more harsh (I think it's close to a 2.5) but if you're reading my reviews, I'm doing a series called "Austin is overrated for everything except BBQ." What was supposed to be a bi-bim-bap (mixed rice) ended up just being a salad with some rice. No pickled veggies, not the right kind of veggies, and the red pepper paste that's supposed to give it flavor was more of a red pepper vinaigrette. I know what you're going to say: "it's supposed to be fusion food, you idiot." Well even if it's not supposed to taste like the Korean food it was based off of, it should at least taste good. And I must say, it was bland and the taste of the veggies really didn't go together. The miso soup that accompanies it didn't really help either as it was nearly tasteless. The bubble tea I believe is just milk and fruit syrup. For a place with such fresh veggies, I'm surprised they couldn't invest in some fresh fruit. Or at least get some syrup that doesn't taste so artificial. I don't know how many Korean options there are in Austin but don't worry about skipping this one. You're not missing out. read more

Pretty great food with lots of vegan and vegetarian options!! I had their honey glazed mahi mahi bowl, which was pretty delicious, and lots of rice and veggies. Their portions were solid for the price (~$10) and free miso soup!! It's a serve yourself kind of place which is great. I do wish their veggies was a little better salted, or that there was a sauce for my salad and rice. When I moved from Chicago, I knew I was going to miss the adorable fast food Korean place in my neighborhood. After doing a little research about Austin (thanks to Yelp), I checked out Koriente, and I'm happy to say it's going to be a worthy successor in terms of pleasing my bibimbap craving palate! The place is very cutely decorated, with all sorts of pictures and knickknacks and writing on the wall from customers. The food is fresh and healthy; you can even have your choice of black or brown rice with the entrees. At lunch, the salad and miso soup are complimentary with your meal. The owner is super sweet and friendly, and I'll definitely be going back again soon. read more

Date of First Visit: August 5, 2008 I've always loved Korean food, except for the kim chi, so I was especially excited to try Koriente, located on 7th St/Red River. It's a very modernist, minimalist looking place. The people behind the counter are super-friendly, and even try to ascertain whether you're a novice on their cuisine, so they can make suggestions accordingly. I ordered the beef bulgogi. I got the dinner special, in which you can get either a miso soup or a green tea ice cream dessert. I opted for the dessert. The beef bulgogi had a very interesting texture. I'm used to my bulgogi being cooked fajita-style, in those heavy cast iron oval plates, but here, it seems they either steam or just plain sautee the meat. It was good, but not spectacular. The rice was also on the mushy side, although I did like that they made brown rice, and added adzuki beans and other flavorings, making a rather boring rice side dish a bit more exciting. The green tea ice cream is topped with a bit of honey and crushed pistachios. I like my green tea ice cream to be plain and unadorned, so that I can enjoy the green tea flavor itself. So, I wasn't completely blown away by Koriente, but I did like it enough to want to come back and give it another try. I also like their approach to all-natural, healthy, organic cooking. Even before I ordered, the cash register dude (thanks for the complimentary miso soup btw!) warned me that it is a FUSION restaurant. Not that Fusion restaurants deter me from eating at their establishment, lack of taste is what deters me from eating at their establishment. I'm certain everything they boast about on their menu and website is indeed true: healthy, msg free, low cal, balanced meals, which I am all for... but to be frank, I found the Obake Bowl (with chicken and brown rice) wildly bland and unstimulating to my taste buds. I got bored eating it and I hate when that happens because I really do love (great) food. Although there are two other dishes: Shiitake Tofu and Japchei that appealed to me so I ought to make another visit and will definitely make another Yelp review then! read more

i have been meaning to write a review here for months and months, but mostly, everything i would say has been said by others - the summer roll is the absolute perfect mid-day snack and i love their bulgogi, even if it is more of an interpretation of what i got used to in korea. however, something grand has happened for us tea lovers here: matcha is back! after much eye batting and pleading with the owner when she took it off the menu a few months ago, one of the staff snuck it in on the last order, and now there is matcha! matcha is whole green tea leaves ground up into a fine powder, so you are getting the whole leaf rather than just the steep, which means it's got a lot more Good Stuff in it, which i think means it has extra go-juice in it as well. if i get the large, my eyes start to jitter just a little bit... perfect! the staff here is always extra helpful and pleasant, the owners are great, friendly, warm people, the food is excellent and the prices are reasonable. i heart koriente! read more

Tried this place today with a group of friends, and pretty much tasted the entire menu. I personally ordered the Hummus Wrap as an appetizer and the Noodle Garden. Firstly the Hummus wrap... geez this thing was huge, I could've probably ordered this only and been done because it is massive, which is awesome. One half was enough for 6 of my friends and me to have a decent bite. Hands down the best spring roll I've had in Austin so far. (Though my range isn't very far because I live in West Campus) The Ingredients were very fresh and there was a very good balance of vegetables and hummus. Also the peanut sauce was on point and complimented the dish very well. Presentation wise didn't disappoint either, it was cut in half and had a lot of color. They say the more natural colors in your food you have the healthier you're eating, and this dish pretty much covered it all. Next up was my Noodle Garden with no toppings. When this came, instantly my friends dived at my bowl with their chopsticks to take a bite of the noodles. The presentation of this thing was great, I had a hard time wanting to even take a bite because I felt I would ruin the garden. Taste wise wasn't bad either. With the balsamic soy sauce (Who knew they went together so well) and some chili paste, you stir this thing up like a salad and you're good to go. The vegetables here are so freaking fresh I feel like they have their own garden. After you finish this not only are you full you don't feel bad because everything you ingested had a healthy balance of nutrients, and calories. To top it off I stole bites at the Green Tea Ice Cream with pistachios and honey. I'm not gonna over exaggerate or over hype this, because its literally just a scoop of green tea ice cream, but I definitely cannot complain. It was a good dinner finisher, and was easily split between two people. Other note able items on the menu would be the Art Tea. What this is is a drink they prepare where they put a flower bud in the water and then it blooms from the water heating it, while at the same time brewing it. Now again I'm not gonna hype this and say it's the best tea ever but its definitely pretty cool to check out. The flavor is very light, as you would expect from a floral tea, so it might appeal to those who aren't really into the bitter taste tea has. Also my friend who ordered this concoction took the bud home in a little sauce container, so If you're sentimental keep that in mind. If you've read thus far to this point of my review not only do I congratulate you, I apologize for my horrible grammar but I'm an engineering major I don't write a lot.
