It wasn't too busy but most of the outdoor tables were taken, although there was plenty of indoor seating available when we visited. We went family style on a bunch of sides including Erin's Mac & Cheese, Korean-Style Chicken Wings, and Kale Fritters. All pretty good. I ordered the Tuna Salad Salad for myself which was good. This was my first time visiting Vinaigrette in Austin, and I went on a weeknight with my sister. I didn't realize just how many salads they offer, but I really appreciated that tofu is available as a protein option. What especially caught my attention--perfect for a cool winter evening in Texas--was their mushroom stew with a vegan miso base. We ordered cups of the vegan mushroom stew to start, along with one of the seasonal specials, the yam string fries, and a shared plate of grilled tofu. The mushroom stew was very umami-forward, filled with miso broth and a variety of mushrooms. While it was comforting, it felt like it needed a bit more seasoning--either spice or salt--to really elevate it. I was also expecting something thicker or creamier since it was labeled a "stew," but the base was quite runny and brothy with steamed mushrooms. The grilled tofu was decent, with a nice color on the outside, though it was soft and could have used more flavor. The yam string fries were almost comically thin--extremely shoestring. Dipping them into sauce was a challenge because they were so tiny, but it was still fun to eat them while chatting. What really stood out was the atmosphere. The dining area is comfy and cozy, and the colorful wall décor adds a lot of character. It's a welcoming, relaxed space right on Congress. Overall, Vinaigrette is a cozy Austin spot with casual yet slightly upscale vibes, offering healthy salad, soup, and sandwich options. At first I wasn't sure if I was at the right place because there's no big sign for the restaurant. Service was friendly. I went on a Saturday evening and was surprised how dead it was.. a few tables of people outside and maybe two parties inside which I thought could be a red flag but everything was delicious! I'm guessing this place gets busy for brunch. Good variety on the menu with many healthy choices. Nice cocktail menu. The appetizers were smaller portions so if you have a table of four or more, order a few so you can share. Mushroom stew 10/10 Duck tacos 10/10 Kale Fritters 10/10 (and I'm not a huge kale fan) Salads are large and could easily be shared. Stopped by Vinaigrette to pick up a couple of salads the other day. Our two salads, one of which was a plain Ceasar, came out two something like $47 with tax and an auto-applied 15% gratuity on a TAKE-OUT order. So about $50 for two salads, one of which is comprised of lettuce and croutons. I ended up also purchasing a tonic after, which came out to $9.75 or so. It was clear the tonic had been made with powdered spices (cayenne, turmeric, ginger) and nothing else. You could make the same thing at home in about 30 seconds for less than 30 cents. As far as taste, nothing was extraordinarily bad or good, the price gouging was just insane. read more

This used to be one of my favorite places. I always enjoy the ambiance, the open environment, and the view of big oak tree. We arrived when it was only about 25% filled and asked to sit by a window. When the host took us to a table next to the kitchen door, we asked nicely if we could sit by the window (there were several tables available). She threw the menus at us and said to seat ourselves in a persnickety tone. Many of our favorite food items were no longer available, e.g., shoestring potatoes, but the salads and mac & cheese were good, just not outstanding. The focaccia bread costs $3 for a basket and is terrible. Some of it was refrigerator-cold, even. Do not order this! We will return when we're in the neighborhood but we won't rush over for that "special meal" again. I was a little bummed out by our experience at Vinaigrette. A few of my coworkers frequent this spot for business lunches but I'd never been. We stopped in on Saturday afternoon, had no issues parking (which was a shock) and decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was nice, but she forgot the beet drink I ordered. My S/O had to remind her as he was ordering his second drink. I also wasn't blow away by the salads. I got the Omega with shrimp and didn't understand paying $9 for 4 shrimps that tasted so fishy (and not in a good way). I asked for no red onion in it and it came with red onion, which only added to my disappointment after not getting my drink. I didn't say anything because I was starving. What a beautiful, airy and bright space! Loved the fresh and organic feel when you walk in. I noticed they even had a bin of books about plants near some chairs at the entrance to lounge. Came in for lunch and it was perfect to have a healthy and not super heavy meal. We all loved our meals. We shared one of the specials of the day which was the Mexican Meatballs. Had a chorizo flavor to it and we all agreed it would taste amazing in some queso! For my meal I had the Tuna Salad Salad. It comes with albacore, but you can add the Seared Tuna Steak for a total of $26.50. The portions are large. I couldn't finish it all. I really enjoyed the different flavors. The artichoke gave it an occasional bite of caper like tang flavor that I loved. Our waitress was beyond attentive and making sure our drinks were always filled. Although the salads are superb (the Asian Cop Salad with flank steak $25), the service was terrible. It took us ten minutes to flag down a passing waitress to take our order. We only saw her twice afterwards: when lunch was delivered and when she brought the check (again after flagging her down). First of all the Cuban Torta is pretty good that alone would get 4 stars. However, this is not the place to order a drink. I tried the frozen margarita. It smelled like the hand sanitizer we had to use during covid, and came out with liquid at the bottom and big chunks of ice. I couldn't get even drink it. I sent it back and asked for a Moscow mule, it was better but still not great. I thought the salads were ok at best, definitely not anything to write home about. Little did I know, Vinaigrette is the secret to curing to all of your salad woes. With an almost overwhelming amount of salads on the menu, although the restaurant technically deals in only one main item, there is something for everyone. I ordered the Eat Your Peas, mainly because I was intrigued about the warm white mushroom sauté, tart vinaigrette, and bacon. This salad did not disappoint, and left me fuller than I ever thought possible from a salad. You can tell that everything was fresh, with high quality ingredients that left me thinking about how soon I could return. My friend ordered The Beet Goes On with added chicken, and also enjoyed his meal. We came here on a Thursday right at high noon and we were able to find parking in the rear. Many yelpers have commented on the light airy open interior with calming music (which adds to the vibe) and enormous Live oak outside. On nice days, the outside fills up faster than the inside (we wound up inside). You can bring your dog here, but it has to be outside. You'll be happy to know there seems to be plenty of parking behind the restaurant. They do have a good list of mixed drinks, wines by the glass or bottle, 3 TX craft beers on tap and even frozen drinks. We decided on the Greek and Caesar salads, although mine came with a side of flank steak. I'm glad they do offer you choices of protein, because for me, greens and veggies are not enough. Keep in mind, that side of protein is probably going to be smaller than you expect. However, the salad itself is very generous indeed. There's definitely a group of dedicated servers here who keep the service on point. When it comes time to settle up, you'll notice your bill will have a 2% kitchen appreciation fee added. At least they don't add a credit card fee to the bill and no hand held device with tip recommendation. They have a great business model going on here that keeps you coming back. I've been here a few times and really enjoy it. It's a great place to eat if you want something healthy but still satisfying. I love their salads, which you can add a protein to any though some are so hearty that you don't feel like you're missing anything by opting to go without. The mac and cheese is very flavorful and delicious. My sister in law ordered some for my nieces and like Kix cereal, it was kid tested, mother approved. Also not to be skipped are the cocktails. The Kale Mary cocktail is delicious - essentially a bloody mary but herbacious with being more kale and celery forward, making it one of the rare times that you feel healthy imbibing. read more

I live within walking distance of Vinaigrette so I've been here a few times and keep coming back! It's a great, healthy option in the South Congress area. Food: I almost always get the Kale Caesar, I just switch up the protein I pair with it. My favorite so far is the lemon chicken, it blends so well with the lemon caesar dressing. This week, I returned to Vinaigrette with another couple as a double-date. We were all in the mood for something light and healthy, so naturally, Vinaigrette was a great option! We quickly found parking in the lot out back, which was covered (car ports) and free. We were seated inside immediately, which was such a relief given the high temps outside. The outside area looks so aesthetically pleasing, so I look forward to sitting there when the weather is a bit cooler later this year. Service staff was attentive throughout our time and knowledgeable about the menu, giving excellent drink and food recommendations. I ended up ordering the lamb salad, which was superb! The salads are all around $18-22, but the portions are quite large, so I personally believe it balances out. I had to box up almost half of the salad and take it home.
