I was already a fan of Mendocino farms from my years in Houston's Rice Village. I always loved their sandwiches. I am now permanently back in Austin and as luck would have it Mendocino has a shop in my neighborhood. It's just meant to be! I love the Peruvian Steak sandwich and the Npt So Fried Chicken sandwich. I am absolutely addicted to the lemon farro chicken soup. It's so good. These days I mostly take the food to go and take it home. The ordering process on their website works great, the orders are always ready on time and well prepared. The restaurant dining space is clean and beautiful if you want to dine in. The staff always have a smile on their face, and are glad to see you. They really make the location shine with their good energy. I wish we had more options like Mendocino in our neighborhood. After an intensive one-hour of exercise, I was starving. Well, not literally, but it felt like it at the moment. Mendocino Farms is about 3 minutes from my gym. I stopped by for the much touted Avocado and Quinoa salad (the only place I actually like quinoa). Everything about this salad is atypical. The salad is crunchy with enough textures to make every bite more interesting than the last. In addition, the salad is delicious from first to last bite. Yes, I ate the entire salad! Also, the salad dressing appears to be a hybrid of French dressing and balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Whatever the ingredients, the salad dressing is quite good. While Mendocino farms was busy, it was quiet enough that folks were speaking at normal volumes. Anthony, the manager, was helpful to answer some of my questions. Overall, chill vibe... I got the guava lemonade for my beverage. I expected my sandwich to be bigger. However, it was good and I didn't have to use my golden BBQ sauce. The sauce wasn't needed at all. This elevated sandwiches and salads restaurant is right off the 1 on W William Cannon. I have been here a couple of times and this location has consistently excellent service and food. Enter and turn left to order. I love their digital menus in front of the registers because squinting at menus on screens behind registers is so 2024. The menu is right sized- enough variation for all diets and doesn't overwhelm with too many choices. Staff wear their favorite dish on their name badges and are happy to share recommendations. The Baja salad and Thai mango salad are *chef's kiss* and my current favs. I don't even need the dressings. The happy hippie sandwich is a quite saucey if you get it to go, get extra napkins if you're a car eater. The vegan banh mi, while not served on a traditional baguette, is a damn.good.sandwich. The fountain lemonades and green drink are delightfully refreshing but very sugary. Two roomy restrooms are in the back right to wash your hands before eating. The energy here is off the charts! You'd think it was a lunchtime rave seven days a week. Staff and management are hyper-aware and vigilant, determined to make sure that they make a good first impression. It's gratifying to get such personal attention and feel like they actually care. Even when the line is out the door, there are enough hands on deck that the wait is minimal, and orders start flying from the pass in minutes. To be honest, the food was a disappointment. I got the Avocado & Quinoa Superfood Ensalada minus cheese to make it vegan, but found that the crispy bits on top were inedibly hard, like chewing on fine aquarium gravel. When asked, they were gracious enough to remake the salad without... But then brought back an order covered in cheese. This was my first in person experience. Have had the leftovers brought home my the wife and daughter and was even better fresh. Had the Parm Chicken Dip sandwich. I am highly impressed with the front of staff head here. I had ordered online with a pickup time of around 1:15pm. I arrived at 1:15 promptly to see that it was extremely busy. I check the pickup shelf and my order isn't there. Many to go people seem to be awaiting their orders and many seated patrons are also awaiting their food. Every seat is occupied, indoors and outdoors, and there are even more people waiting outside for seats. What I appreciated, was they had enough staff for someone to inquire about my name/order to check on it as soon as I walked in and the lady checked in on me again in about 10 minutes. The second time the lady assured me they were sorry for the delay and offered me a cup to try their lemonade. She asked the name of everyone waiting for their order and hand delivered it to the right person when it was ready rather than just chucking it on the shelf despite how busy they were. I also heard her going around to tables and checking on them. It's just nice to see such a level of care at a fast casual type place. My favorite thing here is the not so fried chicken sandwich. One of the staff handed me a menu, and when I told her I had a free entrée but couldn't find it in the app, she said to just use my phone number when I ordered. Super nice and easy. I grabbed a bag of BBQ chips (you had to buy something to get the free entrée) and ordered the Chicken Parm Sandwich. Everyone there was friendly and really hustling, so I left a nice tip -- which I don't usually do at self-serve places. Took the sandwich home, and it was awesome. Not your usual Chicken Parm -- it had sliced chicken, some extra toppings, and a little bit of spice. Really tasty. My wife tried a bite and thought it was great too. The chips weren't my favorite (odd flavor), but I still ate them all. The sandwich was about $14.99, which isn't cheap, but honestly with fast food meals hitting $10+, I don't mind paying a bit more for something that's actually worth it. Imagine you are home and have the nourishing fresh ingredients at their peak freshness and preparedness... and then with you make yourself a sandwich and fall salad with a well thought out recipe. I'm not gonna lie when I got the direct mail for Mendocino Farms I wasn't sure what they were claiming. Actually I was unclear what they were trying to say. Also, the cow is questionable, especially since I didn't eat any beef... should I have? Any way they do make some integrity claims on their ingredients and that you can go on a culinary adventure and that your food experience should be joyful. For me, I appreciated some small details that made eating in a good experience. I got half a sandwich (The Farm Club) and half salad (Kale and Apple Rainbow Salad) EVERYTHING was so good ESPECIALLY the salad and Guava Lemonade. I think they put cocaine in the Guava Lemonade. I'm not going to lie, it has a lot of sugar and I didn't put ice because it comes out of the machine cold but it's addictive in a way that I haven't experienced since chik fil a lemonade. I warned you and if you are watching your sugar, be careful. The sandwich, although pretty basic considering some of the options I could have chosen was so balanced and fresh. The bread was super seaded and soft, the turkey and bacon were not loaded with salt and the pickled onions added a nice touch of acidity with the tomatoes. It was just a really well made sandwich with thoughtful ingredients. The salad had to be the best thing I've tasted in a long time, especially for a salad. I thought it would be overly sweet with the cranberry and apple but it was not. It was tart and lemony and the basil and lemon were super bright. It had amazing texture and crunch and the kale looked massaged. When you order a side you can a small (which is what I got) or a medium and I immediately wished I got a medium lol. This would have been an awesome meal if you just add some chicken. The weather was great so a lot of folks were sitting outside. I saw they have a pickup wall for both customers and another for food delivery apps like DoorDash. If you are sitting on the bench along the wall inside they had nice back cushions. If you want to eat at a table you scan the QR code on the table and enter your receipt number so they can bring you your food. You can get strawless cup lids or straws if you want. The drinks are made there and looked like great flavor combos. They tell you the calories for the meal if that helps you make good decisions. I'll be back, it was already hard to order because I wanted to try more stuff. The manager came out and told me how they make the salad and I really appreciated him checking on me. Mendocino farms brings their fresh California flair to downtown Austin! We went during their soft opening, and things were very smooth. You order at the counter and associate your order number with your table using a QR code, so they know where to drop the food. My partner is vegan, and said the Tofu Banh Mi was fresh and the better of the vegetarian options (in his opinion). The Chicken Pesto Caprese sandwich was perfectly balanced, and the potato salad side was mustardy and delicious. This is my second time at Mendocino Farms and I can say I absolutely will become a regular! The food is top-notch, high-quality, healthy and elevated. The service is top-notch as well! The new Mendocino Farms in Austin has officially ruined all other lunches for me. I walked in thinking I was just grabbing a sandwich... I walked out spiritually transformed and possibly a better person. First off, the place is all the vibes. Bright, cheerful, and full of people who look like they just came from a yoga class but are about to destroy a "Not So Fried" Chicken Sandwich. The air smells like fresh bread, happiness, and a hint of balsamic? enlightenment. Alex was a delight. She came and introduced herself and made me and my wife feel very welcome. The food? Perfect. The vibes? Immaculate. Alex and the crew were heroes among mortals. First time here and I tried 2 different sandwiches. They were both delicious! Loved the not so fried chicken. The employees were really what made my experience! So kind and went above and beyond!
