This is pretty much my go-to spot when I want to be healthy. The restaurant is pretty tiny, but there's a lot of seating in the back. However when you walk in the counter is right in front of you so if there's a line, you'll have to stand outside. Mix bibimbap with ahi tuna: 4/5 - pretty good but I always crave more. Japchae with chicken: 4/5 - this is a much bigger serving and it's pretty tasty. The noodles are meant to be a healthier alternative. This place was great! My wife ans I wanted something light and quick, and we are usually never disappointed with Korean food. The cuisine has more of a Korean/american fusion twist, and we were definately not disappointed. I ordered the Shiitake Tofu, and my wife picked the Mahi Mahi. I love fresh, nutrient loaded vegetables so I embraced the addition of greens incorporated into the bowl, though my wife didn't Carr for it. She was also yearning for a little more rice (she is from China) although I found it just right and not overloaded. The tofu was light and loaded with flavor, and the mushroom were strong and aromatic. We accompanied our lunch with an iced green tea and a taro milk tea. Both were refreshing. My hubby and I have been here before and since we are in Austin now, we just had to come back! The place itself has a "hole in the wall" feel to it and you would never expect for this small spot to be so good! The people were so nice and made sure we always had everything we needed. They always gave us suggestions on what to try next. This time around I got the Curry bowl with a mix of rice and noodles. The flavors in the bowl were so good and fresh! There was potatoes, carrots, and mushrooms in the bowl as well. I was so pleased with my plate that I actually wanted another lol. I also ordered the bubble tea-black tea. We came here with two other friends and we had the Koriente Curry (A) + spicy chicken + fried egg, the Obake Bowl (B), and Obake Bowl (A) + beef, and the miso soup since it was complimentary with entrees. It was a nice environment with friendly staff and a cozy vibe but pretty much everyone agreed that all of the food was a bit bland. The bowls aren't too expensive, but all of the commonly recommended additions (like meat, fried egg, avocado, garlic, etc) add cost so you're looking at around $10 per entree for what's recommended, which honestly still isn't too bad in terms of price, given the volume of food you get and the free miso soup. None of us are gluten-free nor vegan, and we eat all healthy at home daily. That being said, we felt like the dishes were okay, but not really particularly great in terms of flavor or texture. Sure, the japanese curry and the rice medallions are a unique food item, but the former wasn't anywhere near as tasty as authentic japanese curry, and the latter had a distractingly chewy/thick texture which took away from the rest of the plate. Meanwhile, the Obake bowl with the normal rice, vegetables, and beef was a pretty simple meal that we've made at home before, without any real uniqueness in flavor. Every single entree and the miso soup was also lacking in salt, which I understand is due to the "healthy" vibe of this place, but that's no reason to completely avoid salt to this extent in everything. It's possible this place works for those who mainly or only eat out at organic/vegan/gluten-free/healthy restaurants, but even comparing to one in that category like True Food Kitchen I wasn't too impressed. read more

Koriente is a cozy fusion Asian restaurant whose menu seems to be primarily influenced by Japanese such as Ahi Tuna, miso soup, and shitake. There is also a strong influence from Thai with peanut sauce and papaya, and an unmistakable Korean influence with japche and the metal chopsticks. Koriente pickles are too hot to be Japanese, not garlic-y enough to be Korean, but it is nonetheless a tasty side dish. Wow, this place is super fresh and a great price. Not to mention, had a lot of vegan options which I always appreciate. The inside of the restaurant has a cool artisty feel to it and has a relaxing-looking patio in the back. I got two wraps under the appetizer section and soda, which they'll give you free refills of if you finish your can- I've never had that offer anywhere else, so schweet to that! The wraps and their dipping sauces were so good and fresh, mmm, I wish I could go here all the time. Smoked Salmon Roll - similar to a Vietnamese fresh spring roll, very fresh crispy vegetables inside with smoked salmon. Mixmix Bimbimbap - Steamed rice bowl with fresh vegetables and whatever protein you choose to add. I chose the spicy tuna sashimi. Loved the amount of fresh vegetables and avocado in this dish (you actually get 1/2 of an entire avocado, impressive considering restaurants are usually very stingy about this). The sashimi was very tasty. The only thing that would make this dish better is if it was served dolsot style (hot stone bowl). Japchei - Clear noodles with assorted sauteed vegetables. I added shitake mushrooms and avocado. Delicious! Especially good with the spicy sauce mixed in. The restaurant also offers free miso soup (has tofu in it)... it's pretty mediocre miso soup, but hey it's free and it gets the job done. First off, I do not know why I have never tried this place sooner. This restaurant is a hidden gem in downtown Austin located on E 7th street. It looks a little bit sketchy on the outside, but it is definitely eclectic yet cozy on the inside. I have read several reviews where Koriente is known for it's poor service. Maybe I was really lucky or everybody else was really unlucky because I felt that I was really well taken care of as a customer. Even though this restaurant has counter service, the staff asked if it was our first time at Korienete in which it was. Specifically, my boyfriend and I were lucky to have met Jay, the owner of Koriente, at the counter. He is one of the few people that I felt really cared about me as a customer. The menu and the type of food served were clearly explained to us - very fresh, healthy and msg free. There is a self-serve station of miso soup and salad that is complimentary which is always a plus. Both tasted great except I would have liked a bit less dressing in the salad. Here are the two entrees that I got to try: Koriente Curry - Very good! Definitely satisfied my hunger. The portion was extremely generous where I had a good amount leftover for me to save for later. Because it was our first time going to Koriente, the avocado and chicken were complimentary! Super generous. Japchei - This was also very good. The veggies were really fresh and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Color is everything in both dishes! Beautiful to look at, delicious to eat. Okay. YOU HAVE TO GET THE MILK TEA WITH TAPIOCA. You can tell real tea leaves are used to create such a wonderful and authentic tea flavor. We checked the menu online and everything looked healthy, amazing, and SUPER affordable! You have the option of adding items to your order, such as tofu, broccoli, or avocado. My curry bowl + broccoli was a great vegetarian choice, as it was filling and delicious.
