After landing in San Antonio yesterday to kick off my summer vacation, the very first thing I did today was ask my friend to bring me back to this restaurant. The reason is simple: we ate here two years ago, and it left such a great impression on us that we had been looking forward to coming back ever since. Fortunately, not much has changed in terms of either the quality or the overall presentation of the food. Everything is still delicious, especially the Pho Combo. To be honest, it's far better than most of the pho we've had in Germany. That doesn't mean the pho in Germany is bad--it simply means this place matches my personal taste much better. As for the downsides, they're almost exactly the same as before. Parking is still a major challenge, and I understand that's probably not something the restaurant can easily fix. We also tried calling ahead to reserve a table, but they don't take reservations, whether you're coming with a group of 5-7 people or just 2-3 people. We arrived at 6:45 PM and still had to wait about 40 minutes before being seated, which was honestly quite inconvenient. Coincidentally, there was live music tonight, which was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, the sound system wasn't very good, so it was difficult to hear what the singers were performing. Then again, this isn't really the type of venue where people come specifically to enjoy live music, so most diners didn't seem to pay much attention to it. One thing I did notice was that either the kitchen has made a few changes over the past two years, or perhaps my own taste has changed a little. The food felt slightly saltier than I remembered, and the pho broth was richer and creamier. While that added some depth of flavor, it was a bit too rich for my liking, to the point where finishing the entire bowl of broth felt a little overwhelming. The braised short ribs were incredibly tender--so tender that a knife was almost unnecessary, and they could easily be pulled apart with just a fork. While many people would probably see that as a positive, I actually missed the slightly firmer, meatier texture I remembered from my last visit. That said, these are relatively minor issues. The quality may have dipped just a little compared to our previous visit, but this is still an excellent restaurant. If they can fine-tune those small details, it would easily return to being one of my favorite places. There's a good chance we'll stop by one more time before heading back to Germany. read more

Is it that time of year for another 1618 update? Absolutely. After my umpteenth visit, I think it's safe to say I've worked my way through almost the entire menu (minus a few noodle, chicken & vegetarian dishes). My 2025 review still stands, but after so many visits, I've noticed a few items haven't been good as they used to, particularly the chicken wings (and yes, all three of them). The Garlic Wings haven't been hitting quite the same. They've started to taste a little dry, and the saucier wings taste better the next day since they don't have time to steep through once served. The Filet Mignon Pepper Steak is still my favorite dish on the menu, but I still can't justify ordering it family-style anymore. It's delicious, but the portion just doesn't match the price. One of the newest additions--the Truffle Fried Rice is spectacular. It's light, not overpowering with truffle, and the fish eggs really adds the perfect little pop of texture/flavor. I don't think I breathed the entire time I scarfed it down!! 1618 is still one of my favorite restaurants in Austin of all time, but I think it's time for the menu to elevate a bit and dive deeper into less mainstream Asian cuisine. If you're looking for one of the best Asian dining experiences in Austin, put 1618 Asian Fusion at the top of your list. I came here on a word-of-mouth recommendation, and I was intrigued before I even sat down. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by a beautifully designed waiting area showcasing the restaurant's many awards and accolades. It immediately sets the tone that you're in for something special. We came with one goal: try as many things as possible. Saturdays are perfect for that because they offer dim sum. We started with the Pho Xiao Long Bao (Wagyu beef soup dumplings) and the Korean pancakes. The soup dumplings completely stole the show. Perfectly cooked, delicate wrappers, rich and flavorful broth, and with just a touch of chili oil...absolute perfection. I've had soup dumplings in many places, and these are hands down the best I've ever had. I say that with my whole chest. The Korean pancakes were also outstanding. Crispy on the outside, tender inside, with that perfect balance of savory and just a hint of sweetness. Every bite had great texture and flavor. For our entrées, my husband ordered the Banana Salmon. It was spectacular. It's one of those dishes that makes you question whether you've ever really had good curry before. The spice wasn't about heat, it was about depth, warmth, and layers of beautifully balanced flavor. I ordered the Crab&Shrimp Tom Yum Coconut Fried Rice, and this dish deserves its own paragraph. The presentation alone is stunning. The fried rice is served inside a fresh coconut, surrounded by banana leaves and topped with a beautiful orchid. But thankfully, it tastes every bit as incredible as it looks. The coconut adds a delicate sweetness without overpowering the dish. The crab was plentiful, sweet, and incredibly fresh, while the shrimp were perfectly cooked, not a second overdone. Dishes like this require impeccable timing because every ingredient cooks differently, and somehow every single component was flawless. It was one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever eaten. The service was equally impressive. Everyone was warm, attentive, and happy to offer recommendations based on their most popular dishes. They even told us about their live music nights, which immediately gave us another reason to come back. The table next to us was having Pho and needed with the mango sticky rice and I am coming back for that. Food: + Duck red curry: This was probably my favorite dish! The duck is super tender and curry has a nice rich flavor to it. + Pineapple fried rice: There were around 4 large shrimp, and they were very tender and flavorful. Amazing! Came here to celebrate an anniversary. After this being on my radar for quite a while, we decided to try it out and we were more than impressed. Here's my breakdown: Food: 10/10 Vegan curry had phenomenal flavors and a great veggie selection. Rich and creamy. Five sampler was a nice mix of everything and the meat was soft and tender. Seasoned very well. I wasn't a big fan of the tofu eggrolls though. Everything else was spot on. Veggie dumplings and shrimp dumplings were both awesome. I'm usually leery of anything Asian Fusion because typically it's just generic Asian cuisine with severely watered down flavor or just poorly prepared. 1618 is one of the few exceptions I make. The service has always been good with the staff and the food/drinks are even better. I was a huge fan of the pineapple fried rice. I had the Thai tum yum fried rice this time and it was equally great! The "Award-Winning Pho" was not good at all the very first time I dined here in 2021 but I'm glad I came back (and again!) to give it another shot. It's been months since I last visited and finally getting around to leaving a review. I believe the whole peking duck was good; can't recall anything necessarily bad about it but nothing was super impressionable either. The dining environment is comfortable, clean, and fun. Their menu has a great variety of food and drinks to choose from, which makes it a good spot for groups. I tried the dim sum and pho, and both were fresh and delicious. Overall: 4.3/5 We ordered for pickup again, and the food quality is pretty close to a dine in experience compared to other places. Tom Yum Soup with Shrimp ($10): Very sour so I had to dilute it. They did give a lot of veggies and a good amount of shrimp though. However, I still recommend the tom kha soup over this one. Crispy Pad Thai ($22) + Shrimp ($2): Consistently good with any protein, but I think beef pairs the best. The pad thai was crispier this time too. Hu Tieu SG ($21) + Duck ($10): We went with the shrimp and pork belly soup option with extra serrano pepper and hu tieu kho sauce. This version is better than the Hu Tieu Kho, and the duck was a total game changer so I highly recommend adding it. Just know it runs on the blander side without the sauce so make sure you get that extra on the side. Filet Mignon Onion ($25): We got it extra spicy and requested medium rare. I thought the price was a bit steep for a small portion but the meat was cooked well and tasted really good. As was the rest of the dim sum platter which, while only eight pieces and is technically two dim sum plates, had four soup dumplings. Four/eight are safe for pescatarians. There are a few happy hour dishes that are worth getting there before 6pm for such as the sesame chicken. Theirs is so good we ordered a second dish. The vegan pho is noteworthy for its existence and taste. The coconut fried rice with crab meat served in a scooped out coconut is my new favorite dish. Service was impeccable. If you're looking for a standout Asian fusion spot in Austin, 1618 Fusion absolutely delivers. We tried a wide range of items and there were some clear must-orders along with what I'd skip next time. First, the lychee martini is a must. It's delicious, well-balanced, and not overly sweet, plus it comes with a seedless lychee fruit which is a nice touch. For appetizers, the salt and pepper calamari is a must-get. It's perfectly crispy, super flavorful, and honestly so good I could've eaten multiple plates as my entire meal. It was crispy, but overall pretty average with not much flavor and no spice. The portion also felt smaller compared to our other dishes. I'd skip it next time. On the other hand, the crispy pad Thai with chicken is a must. Huge portion, packed with flavor, and I loved the addition of lots of veggies. The crispy noodles were done perfectly and gave a fun twist to a classic dish. For dessert, the flaming cheesecake is both an experience and delicious. It's lighter than a traditional cheesecake, and pairing it with the sauce and pineapple coconut ice cream makes it even better. The ambiance was also a highlight. We go seated next to a door that leads to the outside and my chair was like right there where the door was and I didn't think it would be an issue because it says "use other door" but it was the waitress and waiters that kept going in and out. I tried theirs here, and despite the teeeny, itty bitty size, they were light, crisp, and delicious, not rice paper, but a thin tempura like wrapper/batter that was light and crispy, not the standard cop out lumpia wrapper most places do - yes it matters, it's a textural experience. Anyway, hubby got their filet mignon pepper steak, which was tough and not at all spicy like we are used to pepper steak being. I can't imagine the filet was cooked on a wok due to how overdone it was, especially for filet. No pink, no tenderness at all. That was sad. On the other hand, I was looking at the pho so I got what my server recommended, the pork belly pho but dry noodle style with pad Thai noodles. It was absolutely outstanding. I really wasn't sure what I was feeling like and this absolutely was it without my even knowing. It had a lovely fried pork belly crackling' in it, tender pieces of pork belly, two large shrimp, and a lovely "brown gravy" on the bottom - though it wasn't like a gravy at all, but a lovely balanced, slightly sweet hoisin base (or so it tasted) sauce. I added several spoonfuls of the broth, some fried garlic chili oil, and all the fresh sprouts, cilantro, and Serrano peppers, mixed it all up and it was absolutely perfect! I would recreate this for those gloomy rainy days at home. If I were local, I'd order it in. If not for the disappointment of the over done and lackluster filet pepper steak, I would have given this a 5 rating. read more

I had a late lunch today at 1618 Asian Fusion with a coworker. We originally planned to meet somewhere else, but that location was closed for an event, so we pivoted. The restaurant can be a little hard to spot from the street, but the GPS takes you right there. Street parking is limited, however there's a free parking garage directly behind the restaurant, which made things easy since it's a densely populated area. We arrived before happy hour and had no trouble finding seating. The building itself is beautiful, especially with the holiday décor. There's a white Christmas tree with white ornaments hanging from the ceiling, plus a more traditional Christmas tree in the main dining area. It felt festive without being over the top, even in the New Year. They offer several menus, including their regular dinner menu, a lunch menu, a vegan menu, and a non-vegan dim sum menu, which gives plenty of options depending on what you're in the mood for. We ordered the egg rolls, coconut fried rice with shrimp and crab, which came served in a fresh coconut and was absolutely stunning, and the sesame chicken. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Our server was attentive and kind, checked in on us often, and still gave us the space we needed to conduct our meeting. My only critique is that the sesame chicken could've been cut into smaller, more bite-sized pieces. I was given a fork but no knife, which made it a little awkward to eat. We didn't order alcoholic drinks since we had to head back to work, but I've been here before during happy hour and really enjoyed their cocktails and appetizers. This is a new place in Austin I've been waiting to try and glad I got to with my family. We were all group of 5 and came on saturday around 2:30pm. It was fairly busy but the lunch rush was over and the servers seemed to be clearing tables of large groups so there was a small wait of 15-20 minutes for us before we were seated. Inside its decorated very well and I guess they have live music with a stage. When we were seated we were given menus and our server came over asking what drinks we'd like. We got some coffees and I got myself a egg coffee to try it. Presentation wise its served table side by someone. It tastes very different, creamy but I though the egg cream was supposed to be on the top but the server put it at the bottom and then poured coffee on top. It came with a chocolate biscuit which was nice as a dessert. We ordered chicken wings, pho XLB and lemongrass skewer, chicken pan fried dumplings and shumai. This was a tasting menu for all 5 of us and it was enough to hold us over until we ordered more. I ordered the skewer feast and grilled octopus and a second order of Pho XLB. This was the best pho XLB that I've ever tasted. The soup inside was so flavorful and smelled so great. There was a sauce plate that was brought out to us for everything we had and I appreciated that being brought out up front before the food. We ordered the fried rice just because we wanted something to round out the meal but I saw so many people get the beef rib pho and that made me want to order it but it was so much food. I'll have to come back and try it next time! I had great service but our servers switched out and the 2nd server was just average. He was probably taking care of some side jobs cause we kept looking for him but couldn't find him to get the bill so I had to ask another server to grab him to let us cash out. Total bill was $268. There's just no way I can do this again. The food is decent, but when you factor in the wait time and the price, it really is no better than any other local or chain Asian restaurant. We waited 2 hours for a table (I am not exaggerating), and I understand that is par for the course. I DON'T GET IT! Spring roll app ($10) was ok, but nothing worth writing about. Green Curry with filet mignon ($20) - just meh. Crispy Pad Thai ($21) is one of their signature dishes - if you find yourself here, skip the Crispy Pad Thai and go with the standard Pad Thai. Upon arrival (6 of us) around 5 pm for dinner, the checkin counter hostess seems overwhelmed, but we waited and were seated in like 10 min. Our table hostess was nice and bubbly. She recommended a few things so we ordered apps and entrees. Food was prepared well but it didn't knock my socks off. Perhaps being from DC area, I was comparing, but the way the hostess hyped it, it was good but not amazing. Now why I gave 1 star? It's the service. If they become customer oriented, perhaps I'll go upto 4 next time. But here it goes - she recommended me red snapper, they had 3 sizes, I ordered large for two. Other people ordered Duck, salmon and a vegan option. They all liked it. Except The Penang salmon curry was a bit too fatty, it should feel light, so something is off. Now back to my fish, she comes back 5 min later, we are out. So she recommended the red fish instead, and that they can prepare the same way. Comes back again 5 mins later, says they can only do XL not the one for 2 people. I said well it's the 2nd time you have come back, so you can do the upgrade for me but I'm not paying more for it and I'm still waiting for my food. It seems you guys are already out of things at 5 pm and you should know what you have and don't have. Why the kitchen is sending her out back twice or hostess was not prepared? Then She said "no we can't give you bigger fish". This is where I lost it, how do you come back twice after taking order twice and now can't offer the customer as a courtesy? I have never had an experience like this. I ended up ordering duck four season or something, it was meh, as it was bit overcooked. Moreover, all dishes came so much longer after each other, some of our food was already cold because we waited for others. I highly recommend for this restaurant to fix their interaction and customer service while offering food esp providing courtesy offerings when you are out of 2 main fish dishes and everyone is eating while one person is not because you are unaware what you have. The flowers from the food can go actually, just focus on preparation and service. Oh and the mocktails were bland and overpriced. Overall the ambiance was ok, I would say it's casual dining. Not sure if I'll go back when I move, it seems they are stubborn. See pics! read more

Fusion asian restaurant off Riverside that captures a sprawling amount of different cuisines. Location is fairly large and has a generally attentive staff. We've gone here for various things and also ordered them off of DoorDash. This particular time we dined off the dim sum brunch menu as well as other stuff. * Soup Dumplings - solid but I wouldn't say amazing * Sugar Cane Shrimp - shrimp pasted wrapped around sugar cane * Shrimp Balls - lightly friend shrimp with potato - these were good * Veggies are good too * Pho with the beef rib - good but we felt that the rib is just too fatty for our liking * grilled octopus - * Fried prawns - liked these Overall - it's a good meal, but it can get a little pricey. read more

This place came highly recommended during our work trip, so we had to give it a try. We stopped by on a Thursday night a little early and we got seated right away. Our waiter was so helpful and walked us through the large menu! We got the beef bao, as recommended, and I got a Vietnamese bowl with chicken lemongrass. Everything was so good and uniquely put together. Looking around at the other food going out to tables you can't go wrong and there is a good variety. For dessert my coworker got the flaming cheesecake and I got a caramel cake. Would definitely recommend, perfect for all occasions. As we were finishing up, live music was starting which added a nice touch. Seems to get busy fast so I would recommend going early or getting a reservation. read more

I have been wanting to try 1618 forever. Today was the day! The service was good! We didn't dislike the food, it was all fine/good, but nothing was noteworthy or exceptional. We were excited about the lamb chops. They were tender and not gamey but they were described as a spicy and flavorful preparation and they just had salt on them. There was no sauce at all. They came with a salad. I think they forgot to include the sauce based on other people's photos. The general Tsos ' chicken was not good. It was overwhelmingly sauced but not in a tasty way. I did not enjoy this dish. The "lunch bento" boxes were ok. I really wanted to love the food but I didn't. I did like it. The calamari was my favorite bite of the night but I when it came out there was a hair in it. They did make us a new one. The soup dumplings were good as well. We also got the pad se ew filet mignon noodles. They were ok and had a wok hay flavor but not worth the price. Overall I guess I expected more. I'm glad we tried it. Food gets three stars, Service gets four so I'm rounding up to four. read more

Ambiance is wonderful! Beautiful interior design. We got in relatively quickly. They said it would be 45 min and we were seated in about 20. I wouldn't say the waiter was attentive but he was fine. My Trouble Maker whiskey drink was D-licious!!!! I had the crispy Pad Thai and it was drenched in sauce. The other person I was with had the same dish and it looked way better than mine. So they need to work on their consistency. When I brought it to the waiter's attention he said it sat too long before being brought out but I believe the kitchen needs to tighten up a touch. The live band was really good. Overall an enjoyable evening but I wanted the food to dazzle and it only had a slight shimmer. read more

I think this might be my favorite meal that I've had in a long time. Absolutely everything was a hit, zero misses. Everything is just really well done with a little bit of something unexpected. The betel leaf wagyu was very flavorful. Great bites with crispy textures from the accoutrements on the plate. The stuffed eggplant was very tasty and tender, comes with rice, and honestly shockingly a lot of food for $11. The duck curry was a very generous portion and loaded with different vegetables which I super appreciated. The filet mignon with onion stir fry was so flavorful and loaded with alliums and super tender beef. And then the crispy pad Thai chicken was a big surprise! Definitely not a traditional pad Thai and maybe even more like a halfway between pad Thai and pad see ew. The noodles are wide and thick and maybe about half of them were fried crispy. That made for a great contrast of textures and really satisfying chewiness. The desserts! The ube panna cotta was decent but the hazelnut mousse crunch was INCREDIBLE. Light cocoa meringue, smooth creamy yet light hazelnut mousse, and then the hazelnut crunchities! Absolutely wonderful wonderful wonderful! read more

Kim and I spontaneously walked into 1618 for a casual lunch. We ordered their chicken fried rice, pork shumai, fried eggrolls, wonton soup, and lava buns. Everything was delicious-- especially the crispy fried eggroll and fried rice! Love the diversity of the menu. The lava buns were to die for, I never knew I would love salty eggs buns but now I am a huge fan. It was the perfect dessert. Our server Anna was super friendly and quick.
