The thing is, as a sushi place... I don't really care about what they have to offer. It's just American-style sushi with the amount of finesse you would think a random spot would have. I can't sit here and type up a review about the thing I didn't come to MUSE for. Long story short, do not bother trying the ramen here. I actually came to MUSE because they advertised their sandos online. It's the type of sando akin to the famed ones from Age.3 in Ginza and other Japanese spots. It's definitely more expensive than abroad, but it's genuinely the BEST thing here. It's actually so insanely good that I was afraid to eat too much of it. It's the definition of a guilty pleasure. The creme brulee one scares me just from what it makes me become... Word of advice, this place should rebrand to focus on sandos and drinks. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here to try the viral deep fried japanese cream sando. Walking in, it wasn't heavily marketed but I asked the cashier and they said that they had only two flavors left, which was the strawberry and mango. I opted for the strawberry. Waiting for the sando took a while (about 20 mins). The to-go packaging is pretty nice, however opening the box, there's only one half of a sando given. The cream was really really heavy and not light. The milk bread is nice and soft, but also extremely deepfried. All-in-all, the eating of this viral sando is a ok in my book. Even though this spot is a bit south for me, Muse is totally worth the drive and is my go-to sushi place when I'm in the area. I love the fast-casual vibe, and the rolls are consistently solid. They also have bento boxes, ramen, refreshers, and sandos, which is a nice bonus. Even though it's casual, the sushi quality really holds up; especially the specialty rolls. They're huge, and two rolls were more than enough to share between me and a friend. I also love the cucumber roll too which is so refreshing in the summer time. It's pretty much open seating, and you can either go up to the counter to order, or order on your phone using the QR code at your table. I've gone 3 times now and will definitely continue to come back. They are so quick with the food, and everything tastes phenomenal! The last time I went with some friends we got the shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna, crunchy crunch, and happy roll. More than enough to share, and extremely well priced for how filling it is. My favorite was the happy roll because the salmon tasted so fresh and blended well with everything. They also had the new sandos when I last went, and we had the crème brûlée one for dessert. 100% recommend getting dessert there! It's located in a strip mall off the side of the highway and has a big, open parking lot, making it both easy to get to and easy to park at. QR codes on the table made the ordering process streamlined and simple. Food came out quickly and service was attentive. Everything we ordered was delicious! Seaweed salad, OMG Roll, Sexy Tuna Roll, and one other one I can't remember the name of. It's a somewhat small place with seating options at half-booth tables, regular tables, and even at the bar. I've been making the rounds through Austin's grand selection of sushi joints and MUSE has been on my to-do list for a while now. I recently visited on a Saturday afternoon before the dinner rush began so that we could sample the menu when the chefs were working at a busy pace but not slammed. Located in a strip mall off of Lamar and Hwy 71 that doesn't call much attention to itself, it would be easy to think that this was just another typical Asian fusion restaurant. That was a huge mistake on my part. I was not expecting the creativity and quality that ran through every item we ordered. That quality begins with the house made beverages. We had the fresh limeade, one plain and one blended with strawberries. They were infused deeply with bright fruit flavors and enough sweetness to bring out the best of the ingredients without overwhelming them. Moving on to the appetizers, we had the squid salad and MUSE's Bird Nest. Many restaurants have a squid salad with a fairly standard flavor profile, a sort of rice vinegar with savory elements and this was similar to what I've had before. What was different was the assembly of just the right balance of vegetables, fish, tobiko (fish roe), greens and dressing that all worked harmoniously. I could have had an entire dinner of this appetizer. On the other end of the uniqueness spectrum, the Bird Nest is entirely a MUSE creation with a broiled avocado topped with a delicious crab salad with spicy mayo and sprinkled with sesame seeds. It is wonderfully creative and beautifully executed. Our other selections included maki rolls, nigiri and sashimi. Again, the care that the chefs put into each dish was evident. The sashimi pieces were formed into rosettes of tuna and salmon, not just laid out on the plate as you'd typically see elsewhere. I also loved the Buddha Roll with its combination of flavors and textures of tempura shrimp, avocado, spicy tuna, cream cheese and a kick of jalapeños. The deft hands of the chefs here really stood out for me. Flavors were appropriately subtle or strong in each dish, all playing nicely together in a way that was greater than the sum of the parts. You can feel the love given in crafting each item. A couple more notes: ordering is done through a QR code posted at each table so you'll need your smartphone for the best dining experience. Food flows smartly from the kitchen once you place your order, delivered by the friendly staff. Even more astonishing is the eminently reasonable price point here, offering a real bargain particularly for Austin and for the quality delivered. Visiting MUSE reminds me of the first time I saw the movie "Fargo." You go in not anticipating the amazing journey upon which you're about to embark, and when it's completed, you can't help but smile again and again thinking back on it. Looking at the thoughtful menu, I think that future visits will reveal new, unexpected delights. This place is a gem. Highly, highly recommended. read more

I NEED to come back here again. I'm shocked I haven't heard of MUSE before because their food is actually so good and extremely reasonably priced. I was having such a hard time deciding what to order because their menu is extensive but everything also sounds delicious. I ended up ordering a fried rice and a roll, and it was one of the best sushi rolls I've had in Austin. The fried rice was also very buttery, and the portion was HUGE. I believe I only paid around $30 for everything. I have a suspicion the owner of MUSE is related to the people who run Happyrito because their drinks are very similar, and I LOVE Happyrito's drinks.
