The serving size was definitely worth it because I had leftovers, and it somehow tasted even better reheated the next day. Always a great sign when the quality holds up after taking it home. Solid spot for pho if you're looking for a satisfying meal with big portions. Note to self: make sure to ask for the chili crisp oil on the side next time. It didn't taste nearly as good without it, and they don't automatically include it. Definitely worth requesting because it adds so much more flavor. read more

Came here on a late night food eat after a drive from San Antonio. We ordered spring rolls with chicken, grilled Korean barbecue short rib, and general Tso chicken. overall the flavor profile of everything was really good. The spring roll was really refreshing, the grilled kbbq was very flavorful, although my only downside to it is that it's really chewy. It's a pretty big establishment with plenty of seating. There's parking out front since it's in a bit of a plaza area. Service is quick, and they bring you everything you need to the table, including the sauces. read more

This used to be my go-to place for many years. They used to have a pretty good lunch buffet. But my last lunch buffet visit there was around 2018ish. After covid came they shut that down and have not brought it back. But I have been back a few times since covid. The quality seems to be upholding, but the portions have been reduced. Most recently I got a Pad Thai to go, and the container was really small. It's deceiving - it's the same size length wise, but the depth of the container is about 50% less. Yeah, pretty significant. That was an eye opener when I saw that so I mentioned this to the guy. He agreed with my consensus. I told him it looks like I would get a better portion if I eat in-house, he said yes. So this is one of those places where I did frequent many years ago, and referred them. But now - meh. They don't do anything here that is spectacular or phenomenal, or any unique offerings that are better than others (for example Pad Thai - it's everywhere, and there is a variance in quality, but their Pad Thai doesn't separate themselves from the rest of the pack). Service here has always been nice, attentive, and courteous. I may go back but just not as frequently. This is great ATX staple. They have pretty good food all around with very large portions for almost everything. I have gotten takeout and have dinner in as well. I truly enjoy their Tom Kha soup even though they are some kinda chili oil that makes it orange instead of the traditional white. Still pretty tasty though. I usually order my food to-go and it is always prepared quickly and accurately. This visit, we decided to dine in and were seated at a booth. The service was friendly and efficient. They also have expansive operating hours and are open late. We started with the Vietnamese Egg roll appetizer that was served on a bed of veggies with a side salad garnish that had a great flavor. My only comment about this dish is it could have used a sweet chili or sweet and sour dipping sauce. I ordered my usual, the Grilled Pork and Egg roll vermicelli. Super underrated spot for a yummy, comforting asian meal! We walked in on Saturday night (2 people) and had about a 15 minute wait. I got their veggie rolls to start and they were really flavorful and had a great, crispy texture. My boyfriend got the crab rangoons and scrafed them all down! I had been about 2 years since we have had food from 888 and even longer since we had dined inside versus getting taken out. We enjoyed it so much on a Sunday that we went a few days later for lunch on a Wednesday. I believe our waiters name was Cesar both times. Super nice and attentive. I'm not sure when they refurbished and spruced up the dining area, but I love the new interior and the beautiful yellow seats. Both visit we started with the pork egg rolls. They are smaller than what you would be used to, but tasty. Grilled Squid as well. It was OK, but wouldn't order it again. For entrees we had the Combination Pad Thai, Tom Kha Gai, Chicken Pad Thai, Mongolian Beef, Combination Sizzling Lemongrass Platter, Combination Fried Rice and Vietnamese Iced Coffee. Everything was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. Also the portion sizes are enormous. We left with leftovers for 2 more meals for each plate. The coffee was a little stronger than usual, but not bad. My favorite entree though hands down was the Combination Sizzling Lemongrass Platter. The ginger chicken which was my favorite is no longer spicy ( I even requested extra ginger) and as you can see from the picture the difference... they gave me a dish full of onions and peppers and barely any chicken at all. I came here for panang curry and it was excellent, rich and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. I also tried a few bites of my companion's pho and it was equally delicious, fragrant broth and tender noodles that made it really comforting. The portions were generous, so it felt like a great value for how satisfying both dishes were. The dining room is bright and comfortable with plenty of seating, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Everything came out quickly and piping hot, which made the whole experience even better. The service was fast and very nice, and their chilli oil on the tables is really good- not the typical brand. But the Pho was lacking flavor and the papaya salad was under dressed. I also wasn't a fan of their fish sauce. If I could give this place 3.5 stars I would, but feel it doesn't hold up to the quality of asian food you can get elsewhere in Austin. Can't say we were impressed with this place as our pick for dinner one night. We took our food home to go, this place is bustling, and crowded, with people waiting outside the door. If you enjoy thick fair food style breading for your food, good on you, but something just didn't taste right to us. lol the breading for our calamari and chicken was thick and spongey and sweet, we compared it to fair grounds funnel cake batter (see photo to get better view) . Just Not our preference or taste profile... Our chicken pho was good Got papaya salad and it was wayyyy too sweet and almost bland to tick off boxes for other taste options.. although, I did appreciate the shrimp size I guess I'm so used to lao style papaya salad from back home in San Diego, that this just did not hit the spot for me. I had to add 2 types of fish sauces, fresh squeezed lime juice, and red Thai chilli peppers to adjust the flavors to my liking, at this point I should've just made it myself :/ Another down side, They forgot our Thai tea, had to call back and they offered a refund back to our card. I ordered take out for a quick lunch. The service was fast and straight forward from phone order to pick up. Loved the homey inside ambiance. The presentation for take out was impressive! I like the large take out tub the vermicelli was in. Unfortunately, the actual dish was not on par. The beef seemed plentiful but was huge cuts of fatty meat making it hard to eat without using extra utensils to cut it up. The sauce ramekin was small and did not cover all the items in the entree container, making the whole meal quite bland. I had quite a bit of left overs but vermicelli does not heat well due to fresh vegetables and cold (hard) noodle.. The salt and pepper squid was almost entirely deep fried batter. The seasoning wasn't the normal "Vietnamese salt and pepper". And the actual squid were just body pieces and not legs or rings. It was served over fresh vegetables and a container of jasmine rice, I was not a fan of this item either. For a $30+ meal... I wasn't satisfied and definitely regretted my choices. With other Vietnamese options close by, I don't think I'd order these items from 888 again. read more

This is a very popular place. The portions are large and rather unique. Service was very good.

Food is really good and the portions are really sizable. We stopped in and ordered royal sampler which had a lot so you can fill up. It came with pork egg rolls, seafood puffs, crispy shrimp, grilled squid, and sugar cane beef. The squid was done nicely and was not chewy. Then we also had the pho tai Bo vin and the yellow curry with chicken. Flavors are fantastic, broth was really good and we all left very happy. We got it to go to have at her place after doing an escape room. I like that they have a broad enough menu to accommodate everyone. My kiddo demolished his chicken fried rice. My husband and his sister enjoyed what they got as well. I really enjoyed the veggie spring/egg rolls that we got. I liked my green curry, but ended up only eating about 1/3 of it and leaving the rest for my sister in law as leftovers. I think I would have preferred other veggies, or more variety of veggies, over the ones that came with it, but I get that is personal preference. read more

Wow!!! I was in Austin to visit with my nieces and we went out for a late lunch Sunday afternoon. My UT niece suggested this as it is a favorite of theirs and the food was good and portions large. The inside is more along "Asian diner" but the menu has a nice variety and the food did not disappoint!! I ordered Pho Tai Chin - I thought they were bringing me the pot -the dish was huge!! I swear it's double the size of any Pho I've ordered! It was steaming hot and the smell was amazing! I've never had such fresh basil and sprouts before-so. Tips and flavorful. The broth was full bodied (bone broth for sure) and I loved it- I did manage to eat all my noodles and beef -which were plentiful-but I had half a bowl left. What a random find for us. We were in the area and looked up "best Asian near me" and found this gem. The service is very quick and friendly. A diner type of atmosphere but that still didn't take away from the charm of the place. The crispy noodle dishes was literally the homemade version of the canned fried chow mien noodles you get at the store. Very unique and very good! Also tried the General Tso with white meat and it was perfectly fried with good quality chicken. About the only minor disappointment was the pad thai. The beef clay pot is a beef & vegetable dish in a lot of cornstarch, thickened broth. This is not a beef clay pot.
