Went to Qi for dim sum brunch and overall had a really enjoyable experience. Qi is know for combining western and traditional Chinese cuisine by using local organic farming. Did not have a reservation on this occasion, but they always make me feel welcome and manage to fit us in. Sat on the outdoor covered patio that was cool and shaded. The atmosphere is modern and lively, making it a great spot for a weekend brunch. Started the meal with cocktails including Lycheetini with Deep Eddy Vodka, Giffard Lichi-li. lemon, cranberry, I cut the cranberry. Also had a Fresa Paloma with Socorro Reposado Tequila, Contratto, strawberry, lime, grapefruit, five-spice that was very sweet and garnished with a flower. You are given a card where you can mark your dim sum selections. I ordered the Shrimp Pancake, Snow Crab Ball and Chinese Sausage Sticky Rice. The standout was the shrimp pancake that had a really great texture and flavor. The snow crab ball had a strange texture with shrimp surrounding the snow crab claw. The Chinese Sticky Rice is always a favorite. Also ordered the Truffle Egg Fried rice and Birds Nest with Seasonal Vegetable. The Truffle rice is so flavorful like a flavor explosion in your mouth. The Birds Nest is made with fried potato shreds which contain the a variety of vegetables including cauliflower, peppers, mushrooms and asparagus. The nest is also edible and has a crunchy texture. The presentation of the food is amazing and everything came out hot and fresh. The flavors were on point, and you can tell there's attention to detail in the preparation. Service was attentive outdoors and the pacing of dishes felt just right for a relaxed brunch. This restaurant is truly a gem whether you come for brunch or dinner service. I wasn't as blown away by the service and menu as I hoped- but continue to hear great things so I'll be back. Can't recommend the truffle fried rice or soup dumplings enough. The chicken basil pot stickers and pork belly were good.. but a bit dry for my taste. However, the sauces they offer were all good. Martini was a jump scare in color but taste was on pointtt! Service was fine but we were out front on the patio and though our waiter was attentive while we ordered, we ended up finishing and waiting 40 minutes for someone to come by so we could grab the check. I ended up just heading inside and the maître d' was able to close us out. A large group of us came for dinner - the ambience is super fun, modern, and vibey! Service was prompt, friendly, and accurate. As for the food - everyone loved their dishes! The flavors were spot on and delicious. The only challenge we had was that they would not allow split checks or at least partially split checks - so we spend a huge amount of time figuring out what everyone owed. I hosted my 30th birthday party here and I don't think it could have gone any better! Seemless booking for 14 and we were stationed in a room above the restaurant which was gorgeous! While the food was delicious, be weary if you are truly gluten free. While their menu items are labeled GF and we were strictly compliant in ordering, I had a horrible reaction immediately upon returning home and through the next day. We love the salt and pepper shrimp but this week we splurged for the Honey Akaushi Beef at lunch. Oh my word. Fork-apart tender cubes of savory beef with grilled onions in a honey, black pepper sauce to die for. Came here with a group of coworkers and we sat in a private room upstairs. The ambiance of the whole place is very upscale, and late on a Monday night it was relatively busy. The food was good, could use a little more flavor. The presentation and service were outstanding, and the drinks and cocktail selection was fantastic. Overall, Id say, great place for a corporate function when you are not footing the bill and can try a lot of things on the menu, to find what you like most. My favorites were the duck and flat noodles. Delicious food Everytime. Service, however, is hit or miss apparently. Brought my Mom and daughter for their first time for lunar new year. We had mediocre service, less experience based than my first two visits, with little to no conversation or recommendations. We were the only table they dropped to-go boxes for, every other table they boxed their food for them, which was what happened my first two times. Makes it feel less of an experience than normal. They also gave us a desert menu that had 10 ish options and only 2 or 3 were available, which wasn't shared when we asked about desert but only when we were ready to order. Beautiful decorations, louder than normal based on the new year but nothing terrible. akaushi beef, moo shu pork, and salt and epper shrimp all phenomenal. The soup dumplings never disappoint so that's always our first bite. Cocktails took some time but we're always delicious. Qi Austin has serious style -- it's like dim sum went to finishing school and came back with impeccable manners and great taste. We started with the soup dim sum, which was soothing and refined, like a comforting whisper of flavor. Then came the Crispy Sea Cucumber Har Kaw, and wow. Easily the star of the show -- crispy on the outside, tender and shrimp-like on the inside, with a sauce so good I briefly considered licking the plate. (I didn't. But I thought about it.) The duck pancakes were also quite good -- rich, flavorful, and beautifully presented. But while everything tasted fresh and well executed, there was a certain "something" missing to push it into five-star, write-home-to-grandma territory. Maybe a touch more warmth, or just one more standout bite. Still, Qi has its act together -- refined atmosphere, attentive staff, and dishes that make you feel a little fancier than you really are. Food: We ordered the Zha Jiang Noodle, Truffle Egg Fried Rice, and Honey Akaushi Beef. + Truffle Egg Fried Rice: I would recommend trying this dish! The truffle smells really good, and the fried rice is quite good too. It doesn't feel oily, and it's just really well done fried rice. + Honey Akaushi Beef: I would recommend trying this dish! It is on the pricier end of $30 for not necessarily a ton of meat, but it is some of the best beef I have ever had. The dish comes out sizzling and smells absolutely incredible. The meat is not tough or chewy: it's super easy to cut into. It's got a nice sweetness to it and is honestly so so tasty! - Zha Jiang Noodle: While tasty, I might not order this dish next time just because I thought it was a little too sweet for me. Service: We went without a reservation but were luckily able to get seated quickly since we went before peak dinner time. The service was friendly and quick. Water was refilled without us having to ask. They were kind enough to pack our leftovers for us too in a container and nice bag. Ambiance: The dim, warm lighting sets the mood and is really easy on the eyes. I like that the ceiling is covered with umbrellas as lights, it's a cool aesthetic. Qi is nestled in a building at the corner of 6th Street and Bowie (across from the Whole Foods at 6th and Lamar). Parking in this area seems to be relatively straightforward. Reservations are made through Resy. Upon entering, we were asked if we had a reservation, to which the response was no. They sat us at the kitchen bar area, where you can get a view of the folks wrapping meat and preparing dishes. As we pursued the menu, we settled on an NA Coconut Margarita and an NA Tingling Electric Daisy. We decided on Chicken Taro Eggsrolls, Scallop Caviar Sui Mai, Pan Fried Akaushi Beef Baos, Shrimp Har Gow, and Szechuan Peppercorn Alligator. I've never had any issues with any of the dim-sum items at any of their other restaurants, and positively, this continues to be the case at Qi; you can't go wrong with any of the dim sum options. However, the alligator dish was a disgusting abomination. Soggy, greasy, and an absolute failure of the intended flavor, clearly due to extremely poor execution, as it shares none of the desired aspects of the corresponding laziji dish. You'll notice: way too few dried chili peppers. The edibles should be buried under mounds of chilies. Way too few Szechuan peppercorns. Add a lack of salt, and you have a very bland, uninteresting dish. Not spicy, not tingly, and they didn't even fry correctly since the meat wasn't even crispy. A very sad dish. Other than that, the restaurant is quite small. They have interesting decor, a small army in the kitchen, and a waiting area in the lobby of the main building. We ordered the chicken turnovers, truffle egg fried rice, and the szechuan peppercorn alligator. The chicken turnovers were adorable and had great flavor with a crispy exterior. Food was so tasty, both dumplings are a must and every table I saw had dumplings so pick one and it will be great. I prefered the pan seared chicken overall. Mains the chicken was so tasty and sweet more than spicy, pork belly melted in your mouth so tender. Salmon was good but best part was the sauce so I soaked that up to give it that flavor. I came here on a Tuesday night about 45 minutes before they closed and they were so accommodating! We made sure to order as soon as possible as they told us the kitchen would close in 30 minutes which was very generous of them on timing. The parking was very easy with a large parking garage. The inside of the restaurant was decorated beautifully, loved the ambiance! We tried the lychee cocktail, and a glass of cold sake both were great. For food we shared the pan seared basil chicken dumplings which were very good, the soup dumplings (my favorite thing on the menu and some of the best I've ever had), the beef chow fun which was excellent and a huge portion, and the scallion pancakes with duck which were also pretty good! A good option for Chinese food on West 6th. This restaurant is part of the local Ling restaurant chain. I sat at the bar Sunday evening and started with a Lychee-tini drink. For food I ordered the Soup Dumplings and Beef Chow Fun. I prefer these soup dumplings to the other ones in Austin. They are filled with lots of pork soup and the wrapper is thick enough to hold the soup. The soup is quite tasty and there is a vinegar dipping sauce to cut the richness. The meat filling is also tasty. For the main I got the beef chow fun which has the thicker rice noodles. It's a fairly tasty fried noodle dish and it's enough so you have plenty to take home for later or the next day. Service was quick and the bartender checked on everyone sitting at the bar just enough. My water was always replenished. read more

We had an amazing experience here at Qi. First off, I love Dim Sum. Without having to drive to Houston, we stopped in to celebrate a birthday. I am not going to lie I usually skip anything downtown due to the stress of having to find a parking spot however they have garage parking for their patrons. Score! We came in a Saturday for brunch. There was a 20-30minutes wait for table. It was pretty windy outside so we skipped the outdoor seating. We sat at the end of the table with another party who was already seated. We were given the menu and dim sum menu to fill out. We ordered the crispy pork belly, bowl of rice, soup dumplings, shu mai, salt and pepper shrimp, shrimp and cilantro dumplings. Everything was good. Nothing lacked of flavor. Service was attentive. This place is definitely a great spot to get dim sum, but just be prepared to pay downtown Austin prices. Qi Austin is actually really nicely presented and clean and fun, but it might be because I'm from the Bay Area, but I thought "so this is what gentrified Chinese food feels like." It's kind of interesting, almost like the final evolution of Din Tai Fung, but more bespoke. The presentation and service of Qi are almost too curated to a fault. Everything is chic - from the small cups they serve you to drink tea from, to the presentation of the xiao long bao. It was kind of interesting to see how they presented the other dishes. I remember really enjoying the beef. I think the dishes are really good. They're not anything out of this world but they are executed really well. Sometimes it actually feels a little healthier than real Chinese food since it seems less greasy, but I'm not an expert. The service is great! Definitely a welcome difference from just having to flag down the server every time you want water. 100% appreciated. I would come back again but it is definitely a little pricey!
